Went for a late lunch after many recommendations. Sat outside, tablecloth was ripped down the middle, with other patrons smoking cigarettes and cigars. Gross. Ordered one of the specials at 1pm only to be good they ran out of it again. New England clam chowder was tasty although the Manhattan was obviously not homemade as the vegetables looked previously frozen. Ordered Salisbury steak, which was basically a smashed hamburger with a bit of gravy on it. Most places serve this dish with mashed potatoes and menu didn't specify only to be served rigged potato chips. Very dissapointed to say the lease. I may give it one last try for rib night but that is still undecided. read more

My wife and I decided to stop in at the Blue Rock Café today for a cheeseburger and fries. We walked in and sat down at a small table. We continued to sit for 8 to 10 minutes with no service. I finally went up to the bar and asked the female bartender if there was table service available. She said yes and said that she would get somebody. We then waited about another 5 or more minutes before a female came to our table, dropped off two menu's, asked what we wanted to drink and and walked away. She returned in a few minutes, dropped off our drinks and just walked away. It should be noted that we were ready to order at that time because we knew what we wanted, but she was gone in a second, and thinking that she would be right back to take our order. We then waited another 8 to 10 minutes, before spotting the female at the other end of the room, whereas she then walked past us and out the door with a male, and left the building. My wife and I then picked up our things and walked out as well, leaving our almost full drinks on the table. When we walked outside and went to our car and drove out of the lot, the female and male were standing next to a car in the parking lot talking. We will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

We saw all the great reviews and figured it would be just like that, we'll it wasn't even close. You walk up and they have a sign hanging up that you can't come in with certain clothing items on. Made it seem that this place gets some gang activity. We should of just left at that point. Once you walk in they have a huge bar and pool tables and what looks like banquet tables along the outside walls with dirty table clothes on them. No one acknowledged us so we walked through to the outside bar area. We just sat at a table and finally someone came and brought us menus. Well this table cloth was filthy. Full of cigarette ash and just pieces of food. We ordered 3 items off the menu and everything you want with it is extra. Seemed it was more a get a couple plates and everyone shares their food with each other. And then they brought our food out which you could tell it was all frozen food right from a bag and out of a can. Very disappointing! And our waitress looked like she just came out of drug rehab, while she has to go off to the side to smoke during her bringing her food out. I can say we will never go there again, ever. read more

The place has been completely redone after Sandy! The "Live" band was playing great music, lots of women dancing...hardly room to stand! It was a great night and I recommend it highly as the new best kept secret in the Jersey Shore! read more

This was one of my favorite places until I bought my daughter a gift certificate that she didn't use in time. It was dated for 6 months and after looking up the law asked them to honor it shortly after the expiration date. I was not only refused but ridiculed by the owner. Dept. of Consumer Affairs mailed me a refund from them shortly after I filed a complaint. Gift certificates are good for 2 years in NJ. read more

Perfect place for a drink and an appetizer. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail are MASSIVE and the crab legs are delicious too! We've had entrees here on their specials menu that were so good as well. I love going to Blue Rock for the laid back atmosphere. I had a bad experience last time I went with one of the bartenders. I hate it when a bartender looks so miserable and when you ask for something the looks kill, other thank that I've had really good experiences. read more

Great local, low-key place. The food is decent and it's a great place to hang outside in the summer or eat inside during a sporting game. The shrimp that they serve are gigantic - by far the largest shrimp that we have ever eaten and are delicious! A must-try. read more

Went tonight with a group of friends (8 total) and was the first time for all of us. We sat outside on a beautiful night. While service was somewhat slow, everyone enjoyed the food & drink. Steamers & colossal shrimp cocktail were both excellent. I really enjoyed my cheesesteak while others enjoyed shrimp scampi, crabcakes, clams with linguini, and king/snow crablegs combo. With drinks was a little more expensive than expected, but I would definitely return! After reading many of the reviews I was worried and considered not joining the rest of our friends, but was very happy we went and it turned out great. went there with family. was told it was a great seafood place. here is the run down. service; the main negative reviews i was reading from the internet were regarding poor service. this wasnt the case. the service wasnt the best on earth, but the place was packed and the servers did their best to accommodate everyone. would have liked to seen how it would have been had i not been there with my dad who is a regular though. venu; we sat outdoors and smoking was allowed. if youre a smoker, great. but for a non smoker this is awful. a real turn off considering one of the main draws of the place is being able to sit out side close to where boats come in and be able to get ocean breezes. food; having semi high expectation due to word of mouth from family and a decent review on yelp i expected much more. upon arriving there was already calamari on the table which had little to no flavor. the red sauce for dipping was very good though. there were also oysters on the table which looked good but i skipped them. i ordered the fried shrimp sandwich that came with potato chips (really?) and for an extra $1 you can get fries. well i would have rather given them a dollar than to eat those fries. cold, not seasoned, and similar to eating cardboard were the fries. the shrimp sandwich didnt fair much better. fried shrimp looked like chicken nuggets from the outside. they lacked a good seafood flavor and you were mostly eating fried batter on a roll with iceberg lettuce and a supermarket quality tomato(dont see how any restaurant in nj doesnt bring in farm fresh produce during summer months). but other people at the table had better results. my wife got the crab legs and she loved them. i took joy just watching how much she was enjoying her food. father had red clam sauce over linguini and wasnt overwhelmed by it but ate it anyway. aside from myself, everyone got either manhattan or new england clam chowder and were all happy with it. last thing was dessert. brother got cheesecake and wife got carrot cake. dont know how cheesecake was but he ate the whole piece. wife claimed the carrot cake wasnt good at all and only ate 1/4 of it. beverage; horrible selection if you dont want to drink corona, coors lite, bud lite, or yuenling. no craft beer at all, and no pints allowed outside (although smoking was). sure, they have leinunkugel but thats just budweiser in disguise. i am real snob when it comes to beers so this selection will be fine for most. but not for the person looking for better beer. its sad in the same way the supermarket tomato was. there is a brewery right in atlantic highlands and they dont have it on tap. overall; i would go back for another shot and order different food. would try the soup and a different appetizer. i would also make sure to sit inside and maybe sneak a bottle of beer in with me. read more

I really enjoyed the steamers, lobsters and king crab legs. Check out the daily specials.....the portions are large, prices are great and the server Colleen is very pleasant.....she is the best. I'm not a fan of potatoes....but the sweet potato fries are fantastic. Haven't tried anything else on the menu......only because I'm hooked on the seafood. Enjoy!!!! read more

I came here with my girlfriend and I'm a huge seafood buff and I heard bluerock had some great food. I ordered to a lobster and when they brought it out it was HUGE!!! my girl ordered shrimp and it came in a glass with ice and the shrimp were the size of my hand. this place is great!!!!!! read more

A big bar and restaurant, and I love it. Pool tables, 2 inside bars, one outside bar, live music sometimes, and great specials. I will never go in there AGAIN. Super Bowl Sunday, 2015, my girl and I went there for the buffet we had heard about, after we ate there the week before. We met the owner, and he seemed so nice, we decided to attend that next Sunday, and spend the entire evening. Well, we don't drink with our food, and when we asked for ice water at the bar, the owner's wife mouthed off about us to the rest of the bar how I was only ordering ice water. Then she proceeded to insult us out loud, as if we were freeloading their so-so buffet. After we ate, we both got our beers, and then the woman starts screaming at my girl, and we left in a huff. As I walked out the door, downing my beer, I told the l'il shrew that we don't consume alcohol with food, to point out how wrong it was to treat us like that.Then we went to Smitty's up the street, and had the best SBS we could have had. This place is horrible. I used to frequently visit here but after sandy this place took a turn for the worst. They used to have great food specials, now you order a $20 steak dinner and get potato chips with your steak and thats it. No other choices and you don't get a salad anymore. Seriously? There is no more "semi private" dining anymore either, everything is all open and if you just want to sit down and eat dinner peacefully without everybody looking at you than you should go elsewhere. My final straw for me was I go in there the other night to order some food and grab a beer, some half witt security comes outta no where and starts asking me for my ID? Mind you I'm already seated and ready to order my food, my license was in my car and i was not about to run all the way in my car just to please this moron. Im almost 40 years old, I'm half bald and grey, you seriously need to see my ID? I calmly got up and left and I will never come back here EVER!! This place lacks a lot to be desired.
