Whenever I'm in New Jersey, I always try and stop at a diner for breakfast, lunch or a late nite bite. Since the pandemic, many diners are no longer 24 hours. I of course used Yelp to find a good diner on my drive from New Brunswick to Atlantic City. I found Broad Street located in Keyport not far from the Garden State Parkway. It's your "classic" diner which has that 1950's vibe with the exterior and interior decor. Elvis paraphernalia is featured here. They had a busy lunch crowd. I sat at the counter and ordered a McCaffrey Wrap which comes with grilled chicken, bacon, cheddar jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard. It was really good. The side of sweet potato fries were crispy and seasoned just right. The staff were courteous and the service quick. There is a small parking lot that can accommodate about five cars. There was plenty of on street parking. The downtown area was nice and you can take a nice walk after dining here to the waterfront. read more

In my opinion, this is the best diner in New Jersey, hands-down. Everything I've ever had here has been delicious and satiating. I love the pancakes and eggs, especially love the biscuits and gravy. The cheesesteak is great so are the burgers... I can go on and on. And it's not only the food. My only slight downfall with them is how small the place is so it can be hard to get a table at peak hours but that's just how most old diners are. The staff was fantastic, it was beautifully decorated for the holidays and the food was great. Typical diner menu but with a few great standouts. The Greek chicken soup was creamy & tasty. The battered cod & fries were crispy on the outside & tender on the inside. The biscuit was heavenly, soft inside & well cooked on the outside. Not only is the service good but for a small diner, it was clean and the food tasted fantastic. The food came out super fast as you would expect for a diner, the meatloaf tasted really good and was cooked to perfection, the asparagus was delicious but the potato's were a tiny bit bland. A fun find -- We were coming from Sandy Hook when we wanted to stop for dinner. As this place had good reviews, we stopped in (public parking across the street) and were seated in a cute booth. The servers were jolly and our food came out quickly after hot teas that we ordered. The nachos grande was good, as was the Greek salad (I removed the bread), and my husband had the club sandwich. Is this the best diner in NJ? They certainly claim to be, and after my visit this past Wednesday at around 10 AM, I can see why they're in the running. Stepping into this 1952 Jerry O'Mahony railcar is like a total time warp. The decor is wonderfully retro, featuring photos of Keyport from the turn of the 20th century. It's comfortable inside--about 15 tables and 10 stools--and remarkably clean. The service was inviting and friendly; my food came out quickly and exactly as ordered. I went for the Broad Street Waffle Sandwich, and it was massive! Definitely a signature dish that hits that sweet and savory craving perfectly. For about $17, the portion was huge. I also had coffee, fresh OJ, and a side of bacon. In total it was about $30 before tax and tip. A few pro-tips for your visit: Parking: Don't stress the parallel parking; there's free parking in the lot across the street. Hours: Heads up, they have "diner-lite" hours. They're open Sun-Fri 8 AM-3 PM and Sat 8 AM-8 PM. If you're a city commuter, you probably won't make it for breakfast, which is a minor inconvenience. Dietary Needs: They offer gluten-free bread for sandwiches, which is a nice find for an old-school spot. Student Perks: If you're an Rutgers student on a budget, their mid-week lunch specials are a solid value. The decor is really retro, some with pictures of Keyport from the turn of the 20th century. There's about 15 tables and 10 stools. The food came out quickly exactly as ordered. Service is decent and friendly. You should note the hours they are open: Sunday thru Friday 8-3pm. Saturday 8-8pm. Hmm. If you commute to the city, you won't be having breakfast here. Ambience was great. Love the old school feel with lots of nostalgic pics. Menu was awesome with lots of options and even some funky choices. Service was great despite it being a packed Saturday late morning. My wife ordered a Texas toast grilled cheese with pork roll which was really good. I ordered the James dean wrap which was sausage, bacon, eggs, cheese and tomatoes. I'm unsure if it was my taste or something else but I tasted chemicals when I ate it. I am giving it a 4 because my friend loved his luncheon special (Guido Burger & fries, with a split pea soup for starters) but I was not particularly impressed with my Broad Street Omelet. His split pea soup was thick and tasty. The Guido Burger was a large piece of chopped meat smothered in Swiss cheese and pastrami. He loved his lunch. My omelet had potential as it was extremely large but it came out well done and I have no idea why unless that's how they do all the omelets. Our server was OK but not great--I had to hunt them down for a coffee refill. Also, the gyro meat was pretty bland. The veggies in the omelet were well-cooked and tasty. The place looks like a throwback to a 50s diner. Love the Elvis statue outside and the memorabilia inside. Very impressive and customer friendly young man (probably the manager) at the cash register. Who doesn't love a solid diner? Especially one that has the "old-school" vibes. Broad St is small and has the quintessential red seats and silver tables with fun pictures on the walls. Because it's small it gets busy fast, so we got there right when it opened at 8am which was smart. I love a diner that has a make-your-own omelet option so I went that route. My omelet was huge and very filling. My only criticism is I prefer my veggies/ingredients inside to be more chopped up - there were huge chunks of everything. I'm a huge fan of Diners in general, but add to that a classic style Diner with silver paneling, curved exteriors along with old fashioned counter and booth seating and you will get my business at least once to experience the setting. Broad Street Diner is a perfect example of this. As I write this review, I have actually visited this Diner twice, but I wanted to get two visits in before writing this review. Broad Street Diner is not just silver with a retro feel, they fully embrace it. The exterior has a statue of Elvis (no, really) while the interior has a ton of signs and posters hanging throughout (even in the bathrooms where John Wayne watches over you as you do your business in the men's room). Even smaller details like the condiment holders at the booths call back to another era with clips on top and Tabasco sauce branding. It's quite a trip just walking through the doors and soaking it all in. Service has always been friendly each time I've eaten here. It's also extremely fast. On my last visit, my girlfriend and I each ordered a platter and then an order of their AMAZING "Elvis" French Toast (with peanut butter and bananas) and I swear everything came out in under 15 minutes but nothing looked rushed on the plate. The two items I had recently that I declare "MUST TRY" are the Juicy Lucy burger and the aforementioned "Elvis" French Toast. The Juicy Lucy is just as described, a monster of a burger with cheese melted inside and on top of the patty. It was cooked perfectly and the onion rings I had with it were crisp, fresh and delicious. The French Toast is an insane dish with layers of French Toast, a peanut butter sauce and bananas in between each layer. I was only able to have two bites and had to take the rest to go because it is so rich and filling (the leftovers made for a great snack the next day). Broad Street Diner is a treasure and I am so glad a place like this still exists. It's a bit of a drive for me to get there, but the surrounding Keyport area is a wonderful way to spend a day so I'm happy to do it. read more

Yes the food overall here is very good. Been here over 10 times. Service is solid too. Ambience is cool - retro jersey diner. Don't order a burger. It is a previously frozen garbage patty that is barely 1/4 inch thick and has zero meat flavor. It says it's "their own blend" on the menu. Weird. Also got 6 pieces of shredded lettuce. That was comical. So I ate 2 bites of the burger. Also, the cornbread stuffing was raw in the middle and looked like it would be crispy on the outside. Nope, just microwaved to heat back up. Broad Street Diner is one of the best diners I've been to. For diner food it's really good. It's a very small and cozy old fashioned diner. They post their specials everyday on their Facebook page. I had the Texas BBQ chicken melt and the anrgry crab cake grilled cheese for dinner here. Both sandwiches were served on Texas Toast. They were both very good, but the angry crab cake grilled cheese stole the show! It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The Texas toast was buttery, and the chipotle mayo was amazing! It was nice and cheesy too. I had the matzoh ball and the lobster bisque soup both were fair. That's ok though because the dinners were huge, and I'd rather fill up on that. For dessert I had the Oreo and chocolate cheesecakes here for Both were good, but the cake part was dry. The Broad Street Diner is a GEM! My dad and I have been going pier finish since I was a little girl and when Broad Street Diner came on my radar I planned a morning trip with a goal to hit this spot on our way home. My mom heard that we were going to stop by a Diner instead of a bagel shop and decided to tag along as well. Even though we were there at the crack of dawn, this place was PACKED. To put things into perspective it was a Sunday and the establishment itself isn't large by any means; It's tiny with an old-timey aesthetic. We put our name down on a list and decided to walk around near by since we had some time to kill. When we were finally seated, we were in awe by the aesthetic, the service, and heck the menu. I ordered the Churro waffle which is deep fried waffle goodness topped with cinnamon sugar sandwiching some delicious vanilla ice cream. It was PURE PERFECTION. I was in heaven and I was not sharing one bite. My dad had the classic Benedict which looked and tasted spot on while my mom was hoping to get a fruit filled crepe, but was sadly disappointed by them not having that as an option. Instead she ordered a dutch apple pancake which she was pretty happy with. Is it the "#1 Diner in NJ"? I can't tell because there are a lot of great diners in The Garden State, but it certainly has an argument that it is. What is undeniable is that this tiny railroad car stainless steel kitchen and dining room is a stone cold classic of the genre. It is ably assisted by its ideal location on the main drag in Keyport, one of the almost forgotten Jersey towns along the Raritan Bay. It is historic and charming and well worth your time to visit, grab a bite and stroll the small downtown and waterfront promenade. The panoramic view across the bay and New York harbor to the skyline of Lower Manhattan is stupendous on a clear blue sky day. That was our plan when we arrived, but little did we know that the Broad Street Diner would be so much fun. Jammed on a Sunday, we lucked into two spinners at the counter, where we were able to watch the crazy floor show put on by the staff. They were zany, loaded with local color and game to engage with their customers. They were a hoot! I opted for breakfast (Broad Street Omelet) and my friend, lunch (Pulled Pork Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries). Both were delicious and more than either of us could consume. My home fries were more than half the large plate and had ample onion/pepper mixed in. The sweet taters were crisp and if possible, superior to the white spuds. Coffee was excellent, too. You owe it to yourself to visit Keyport for several hours or even a night, grab a meal at the BSD, and walk the promenade while gandering the Big Apple across the water. The Broad Street Diner is a diner's diner! Everything about it is what nostalgic diners look like and what modern diners try to mimic, but fail! The old diner car is real and there are lots of old-time memorabilia such as various Elvis ceramic figures inside such as a chunky Elvis on a shelf and outside with a life-size Elvis wearing blue suede shoes! Also nestled on the shelf a Betty Boop ceramic figure and Laurel and Hardy! Classic spin-top high stools are situated on the counter and some tables have booths and some in the middle without! There are a good amount of items on the menu. Items with a red star are favorites! It is no surprise that Elvis French Toast is one and then something I have not seen before the Chocolate Babka French Toast! I can get fat just by perusing the menu! The servings are huge with black and white checkered trim. The Canadian bacon was nice and thick and I got three pieces with the eggs. The Home Fried potatoes were nicely browned and seasoned with some bits of onion! Though I could only taste a few chunks of potatoes, it was enough to know they were really tasty! The omelettes are huge too and pancakes nice and fluffy! The diner has the biggest muffins I have ever seen and they also have their own bottled soda! Waiters are friendly and very capable! Bathroom is lined with old tiles yellow and trim black, no doubt from the old days! Frequent return customers eat here as the staff know them! With some really good food, I can see why! read more

first the diner is tiny and thought oh boy we were gonna have a long wait for a group of 5 but NOPE, they have the staff moving and grooving and having tables in and out BUT not in a way you feel rushed when eating. The service is generally just that good that you arent waiting forever for your food and comes out nice and hot. The staff is always very friendly and helpful with any menu questions. Best of all the prices are fair and meals are large! I had the two eggs any style and my eggs came out perfect over hard and the home fries had to be my favorite! the kids meals are such a great size my boys could have shared one meal if we wanted. The bowl my husband had was good! it had a lot of flavor to it and just what he likes. My mother had the French toast and said they were delicious. We were there maybe an hour and there was people in and out. It really was the cutest decor as well with the old school style. Diner is a thing in Jersey and we must go to one at least once when we visit. This time we went to Broad Street Diner in Keyport. The restaurant had cute decorations and cozy seatings. We were able to dine in at the time and staff wore their masks when they talked to us, but not when they talked to each other though. The menu was huge and very hard to pick something from because everything looked good. We decided to pick something from the All Day Special menu and even with that, we were still struggling. Our server was like a wonder woman and made the recommendations for our indecisive mind, thank you Nicole. We got balsamic pork chops, shrimp and broccoli alfredo, and mac n cheese wedges for starter. The meal also came with soup and puddings. We picked lobster bisque and split pea for our soup choice. We were most impressed with the pork chops. It was perfectly tender covered in mozzarella cheese. Each bite screamed heart attack but we didn't care, it was that good. Our least favorite was actually the lobster bisque, the split pea soup was waaaaay tasieter compared to it. Overall, we liked the food and the portion.
