We bought a home with a 5-year old Kinetico water softener. The water in the house would come out…read morefrothy and SUPER salty. We had Kinetico come and service it. They said that the issue was that we needed to replace the PRV out by the street, which would cost $1,000. We had a non-Kinetico plumber come out to change out the PRV and see if he could help solve the softener issue. The first thing he pointed out was that the Kinetico filter hadn't been changed in what looked like years - yet the Kinetico service peeps had been there "servicing" the system just a few days earlier! The non-Kinetico plumber noted that he wouldn't touch a Kinetico system, but he showed us how to change the filter and charged $200 to replace the PRV. (One fifth the price of the Kinetico quote.) The PRV and filter change made no difference in the salt water issue, so we had Kinetico come out again. (Another $250 even though it was under warranty.) They came out again and replaced some small components in the system head, BUT also said that they recommend that we replace the system with one of their newer models because our warranty was about to expire AND the salt would probably return. OR add a dechlorinator, but they couldn't say if that would actually solve the problem. The new system would be ~$7,500 if we bought it before our warranty expired. It would be more expensive if we waited a month (after the expiration date). (They try to upsell on the phone and when they come out. It is a constant thing with anyone we speak to.) Three weeks later the salty water returned - extreme frothy, salty water. When taking a shower, it is as if we are bathing with ocean water. I generally wash my face afterward with bottled water to get the salt off my lips. Obviously, we can't drink the water like that. So if you crave salt water and want a softener that will last less than 5 years and want to pay $250 per service call (when under warranty) Kinetico is the choice for you. It has been a very disappointing experience. We are replacing the system with a less expensive but hopefully more reliable system.

I have had several technicians inspect the unit, and three units have been replaced by "master techs" who have been unable to identify the cause of our excessive water usage, which exceeds 15,000 gallons during our absence for the majority of the day.Upon consulting my own plumber, I was informed that the water softener is the root cause of the leak. Following my plumber's confirmation of the issue, the unit was shut off, and my water bill returned to its normal state. However, this company has yet to refund me for the water bill or resolve the problem within months. Despite numerous continuous conversations, no solution has been found. When I have requested a refund and the removal of the faulty unit, my account remains unresolved, and I continue to face difficulties with Hope to just have them removed from my home and my credit

After getting g multiple quotes for system from the others ($7000 and up), My quote from Alamo Discount Water Systems was less than 1/3rd. Yea even added a reserve osmosis drinking system plus all the plumbing from the street for just over $2500. Very happy with this purchase and it's so nice to have a company that stands for dedication, integrity and excellent products/installation. Our well for our house was completed toward the very end of our build so that gave us little time to get schedule someone for a water system before actually moving in. We had planned for another company to install the water Softner and Filtration devices but it was hard to work around our builders schedule. My wife called around and got push back due to the short period to install, but our neighbor recommended Jay from Alamo Discount. Jay and his guy showed up on move-in day, installed the several devices very quickly and had us up and running within an about an hour. Jay was professional, knowledgeable, and the cost did not break the bank. AS of February 2019, we have had no issues and Jay will gladly accept phone calls after installation for guidance on the system.

The Water Man installed a water softener for me over two years ago. Due to my home's plumbing…read moresetup, their technicians decided to install the unit outside, fully exposed to the elements. They never warned me about the risks, recommended sheltering, or provided protective solutions. If you're reading this, take it as a huge red flag: No reputable water softener company should allow an outdoor installation in San Antonio, where extreme heat in the summer and hard freezes in the winter can destroy equipment. I didn't know better at the time, and now I'm out over $3,000. The softener has failed twice, my plumbing is completely blocked by sediment, and my foundation is shifting due to thousands of gallons of water leaking into the crawlspace on two separate occasions. The First Failure It was inevitable the system would malfunction due to weather exposure. When I reached out, The Water Man refused to take full responsibility, claiming weather damage wasn't covered under warranty. However, their technicians never told me that weather exposure would void the warranty. After some back-and-forth, they replaced the parts under warranty. They claimed the system was functioning properly, but over time, the water pressure dropped, leading to a second failure. The Second Failure Wanting to prevent further issues, I followed Ty's instructions to shelter the unit. However, Ty admitted The Water Man had no sheltering solutions. So, I hired a certified water softener company to build a proper shelter. Due to the shelter's size, the unit was moved a couple meters. After the move, the system failed again. This time, when I contacted The Water Man, Ty refused to investigate, claiming that since another company had made the "alterations" for the shelter, they were no longer responsible. Summary of Failures: 1 They installed the system outside without warning me of the risks. 2 When it failed due to weather, they blamed me for not sheltering it, even though they never told me it needed shelter. 3 When I followed Ty's instructions to shelter the system, he admitted The Water Man had no solutions to offer. 4 When I hired a third-party company to build a shelter and the system failed again, they claimed the warranty was voided due to third-party work. The Water Man's Own Warranty Proves My Point Their warranty clearly states: "Any equipment installed outdoors must be protected from extreme sun/heat, freezing temperatures, fire, lightning, flooding, or wind." But when their technicians installed my unit, they: Never required sheltering Never warned me that weather exposure would void the warranty Never provided any protection solutions When the system failed for a second time, they cited another clause: "Any work performed on Water Treatment Equipment not performed by The Water Man may void any warranties." But Ty instructed me to shelter the system and admitted they couldn't do it. The Result: My plumbing is now completely blocked by sediment, leaving me with no water access and facing thousands of dollars in plumbing repairs. The faulty system also leaked thousands of gallons of water into the crawlspace, causing my pier and beam foundation to settle. This company will likely respond by claiming I was "warned" about third-party work. The reality is: I had to coordinate repairs with sheltering installation, as the warranty required it to be sheltered immediately. They were aware I was using a third-party vendor and said nothing about the warranty being voided until the system failed again. Avoid at all costs.
