I've been to Blue Water Grill about half a dozen times, and never had a bad meal. I had a fairly mediocre meal on my most recent visit there, but that was probably because I was looked for a vegan option, and there was nothing whatsoever on the menu. I ended up ordering flatbread pizza with no cheese and some vegetables. It was okay, but since it wasn't really meant to be vegan, it left something to be desired in the taste department. We went here on Saturday with a group of three. Was disappointed that the menu has changed from previous visits to be all fancy...Much like many restaurants around Grand Rapids. The delicious quesadilla was gone and a few other apps we enjoyed as well. Worst part of the visit was the totally unnecessary wait we endured and zero follow up from the hostesses until I called them out. I checked in on the No Wait app at home and had a 45 minute wait. After a 20 minute drive, we were told we still had a 45 minute wait. Why even be on the app if your wait times are not accurate? So, after waiting well over an hour, my fiancee went in to check on our wait time. While she was waiting to ask the hostess, a group of five walked in from outside and were immediately sat. WHAT?! Why were we kept waiting so long if there really wasn't a wait? There were even a few tables by us that were open as well. Probably won't return. Food is not that great for the price and many other restaurants we like understand the No Wait app and how to notify customers​ when their table is ready. We had lunch there today. The service was awful. We had a young guy that acted very disinterested and did not follow up with our table. Drinks were not refilled unless asked (that's if he stopped at the table at all) silverware was not given when our food was delivered (we had to flag another worker down for that) and he never checked to see if we enjoyed our food at all. It was an overall poor experience. We chose this restaurant over many other great options in the grand rapids area. If this is typical service, we will not be back. read more

We decided to try it out again recently after not returning for 7 months after we heard the management had changed. I'm so glad we did! Tried a few different menu items and everything has been great the few times we've returned to one of our favorite spots the past 2 weeks. Probably my favorite restaurant, Love it! The atmosphere alone is wonderful there isn't anything on the menu I haven't liked yet. They offer call ahead seating! I would highly recommend this! I called ahead was told at the door 30 minutes and 2 hours if you didn't call a head! I was seated in about 20. I have even left my Debit Card after dinner before and I was told they would keep it in the safe until I came to get it and if I could show them my ID only then would they give it back to me (very reassuring after the scare of losing it!) The Blue Water Grill never seems to change their menu. That is wearin thin. Of course, this is true for all the restaurants in this group ownership. That said, they do have great happy hour specials. It's worth a visit for those. I am always leaving (other than when at happy hour) feeling that although it was a good meal, it cost far too much and should have ranked at least into "great meal" status. As many have said, this is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Great views of the small Lake adjoining from either the patio or inside. The restaurant has a modern feel, with furniture with simple lines and lots of windows . The menu is varied with everything from appetizers to steaks and seafood. Everything I have had has been very good. The service is sometimes not the best and I don't see that there is a great correlation between service quality and how busy it is. This has to be my favorite place to go for food and drinks in Grand Rapids. Happy hour is awesome! Esp on Wednesday when all wine is half off and you can get a bottle TO GO! They have a house beer which is fantastic. You have to get the root chips, which are sliced and fried potatoes, carrots, and beets with both dipping sauces. Talk about a song in your mouth! The bacon and 4 cheese macaroni and cheese is wonderful. Deserts are nicly sized and always hit the spot. Parking is able, views are breathtaking, service is outstanding, outdoor seating has the same great service, and happy hour starts at 2 pm! Skip that last meeting and head on out! read more

We dined at Blue Water last night and we were so impressed by the service. As the sky grew dark, the manager assisted each table on moving from the outdoor patio to a inside table. We were outside. Our server was efficient; our meals were delicious. We even had an employee come to our table looking for the owner of a convertible in the parking lot with its top down. It was my husband's! Was not Impressed with this place at all. Came in and got seated outside where they definitely have a mosquito problem. I ordered the cauliflower and the crab rangoon dip. Both were good. I ordered the steak as an entree. $56 for a 12oz new York strip that I ordered medium came out med rare, red in the middle undercooked. Never had my server even come back to the table til almost an hour after being served. Very disappointed and will not be back. We literally had to ask for salt & pepper at our table. I understand this place has new cooks and it's difficult to get people to work at the business, but you shouldn't sit people if you know it's going take two hours to sit and drink with no food. I will never come back to this place again. We're traveling here and we travel to Michigan a lot. Hands down the worst service ever. All we needed was honesty telling us that it would be over an hour to get service during the wait and our food was also cold. We went here last night with another couple. We used the Waitlist function on Yelp and were seated within 5 minutes at a table with a view of the water. It went downhill after that. We waited over an hour for our food. I ordered a margherita pizza which was burned badly and I think they use cornmeal on the bottom when they cook the pizza, the cornmeal was burned so there was this sandy, burned stuff all over the bottom. My husband had fish and chips. The fish was oily and rubbery. One of our friends had a so-so rueben and his wife, a vegetarian, ordered a sandwich with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and thousand island dressing. It came without cheese and a pile of onions. I sent my pizza back, the others just suffered lol. The waitress brought me another pizza to go AND took the price off our bill, which was nice. However, the to go pizza was also burned. This is the second time we've been here this year and both times the food was pretty bad. I used to love this restaurant but would be very reluctant to go again. I certainly expect more from a Gilmore restaurant. read more

Very good food in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. My mahi mahi tacos were excellent but the bleu cheese sauce on my friends pasta wasn't very tasty. Dessert was good and prices were very reasonable. My wife ordered tofu risotto but was told after about twenty minutes that there wasn't any tofu so they subbed in shrimp for the same price which was nice, but the risotto came about two minutes later and the shrimp followed about ten minutes later. We appreciated the shrimp but no idea why it wasn't cooked together or why a fresh risotto wasn't made. read more
