The location of Bluewater is an absolute gem, it has plenty of outside seating with a Lakeview. The menu is not overwhelming and very focused. Which leads to quality food. The service was, I would say a little off. We had to ask about the happy hour special. It was not suggested to us. We had to wait quite a while for someone to come to the table. The Steak Eggrolls were delicious, I got the goat cheese stuffed chicken for dinner and it was amazing just very small portions for the price and mashed potatoes that were lukewarm at best. This time our friends were in the mood for some seafood and we brought them here. We were a group of 6 with two kids and the color pencils kept the two happy (at least for sometime). The friends were all really impressed with both the location and the food. I had ordered the salmon risotto which was fresh and tasty, and my wife had taken the walleye which was perfectly cooked as well. The friends took the lobster tacos and some other shrimp and salmon dishes. Everyone was commenting on how fresh the fish were and how tasty all the items were. We had a nice time at the outside patio as the sky was turning red on a balmy day and finished it with some awesome desserts... ours being the toffee cheesecake which left a sweet aftertaste for the evening. read more

My bestie took me here for lunch on my birthday this last Saturday, and this place scored full points in every department! First off tons of easy parking. We were greeted immediately and very pleasantly. Seated in a booth with beautiful views of the lake. Our server arrived almost immediately, and the quality of service just kept on going, tea glasses, water glasses never empty, checked in with us just the right amount. We both ordered salads and both arrived without a long wait, and both presented beautifully. My friend very much enjoyed her Cobb, but I think I was the winner with the beet salad with apples and walnuts etc, so fresh! Perfect spring meal. Portions were large! Both my friend and I took half our salads home to become part of that night's dinner. If you are turning south on Beltline out of the parking lot and it's a busy traffic day, it's a good idea to drive through the parking lot south to a set of very nearby stoplights. 5 stars when you sit downstairs. Maybe 3.5 stars sitting upstairs in the main dining area. I've visited Blue Water many times. Sometimes for food, sometimes just for drinks. I've been with a group, and just with 2 people. I definitely prefer going for drinks and apps rather than a full dining experience. The bartenders are very attentive, and you can order food at the bars as well. They also have great happy hour specials (even on Saturdays!) which include a couple food options as well as drinks. I highly recommend the root chips! I believe they are beet, carrot, and potato. They are served with 2 dipping sauces, but I don't eat either of them. They are a little pricey for chips, but they're included in the happy hour menu, and it's a large portion easy enough to share between 3-4 people. The calamari is good, but pricey. The wood fired pizzas are good, and also included in the happy hour menu. The margherita pizza has a basil pesto sauce, which is a little on the oily side. The downstairs bar and patio is really nice, especially in the summer. They have it open to outside, so you can enjoy the nice summer weather, but still sit in the shade. There are tables out in the sun as well. One issue downstairs is for us draft beer drinkers. The beer lines run down from the upstairs, and are exposed to the outside heat, so on hot summer days the beer is NOT cold. Go for cans or bottles from the fridge if you sit downstairs. While the downstairs is casual and comfortable the upstairs feels more formal. It's nice for a date night, or celebration. The service we've had in the main dining area has been fine, but not exceptional. The food has been good, but not exceptional. It's a bit pricey for what it is. I've definitely had overcooked fish that was over $20. So I like it in terms of location and atmosphere, but there are other places I would rather go for a nice dinner. Eh, this place is okay. I like other Gilmore restaurants better. The menu feels limited. This $14 plus $5 for a salad with chicken added was ridiculously skimpy compared to the portions of other meals I saw. Spinach isn't that costly but literally there was only a handle (a single layer) of spinach. Disappointing. I wanted to like this place and the setting is beautiful once you're in the actual restaurant, but the food was subpar. The Western Bowl or whatever it was called on the brunch menu looked like a big pile of garbage when it arrived. It tasted fine but was not good. Everything was mixed in and had been cooked together. Most like scrambled eggs with stuff in it. Nothing about it seemed fresh. I had started eating it in the photo but it pretty much looked the same. The potatoes in the bowl were the highlight. The Bloody Mary bar was extensive but nothing was chilled or even served on ice - even the shrimp and the cheese cubes. Everything that was in jars looked like it had been sitting out for awhile. We went around 12:30. It could have been fixed with items sitting on bowls of ice. Warm pickles? No thanks. And maybe add a heat lamp to the bacon. The waffle we ordered for the table was good, but it didn't taste like something I couldn't make at home. My husband said his egg sandwich was good and the Parmesan truffle fries were the highlight of the meal. The kids enjoyed the Mac & Cheese and the chicken fingers. They had cups with tops for them, which is always appreciated. Service was a little slow but they had a sign saying they were short staffed and we were not in a rush. Overall, it was fine. Blue Water has always been a go to for us when the weather is nice and we want a patio, happy hour, and good food! While we do dine here all year, it's especially appealing during patio season. Not only do they have lots of seating outside, but they have an open air, covered patio downstairs, too. Lots of options! The have rebranded a little bit, and its a nice refresh. Because they are a Gilmore restaurant, they have a nice happy hour! Their menu changes, but not drastically. They always have lovely seafood options, lots of woodfire pizzas, and keep some of their foundation items. This time we got the Ahi Tuna app, which is always good. I got the Grilled Fresh Salmon and WOW. I know its going to be good when they ask how I liked my salmon cooked! Super impressed with the salmon itself, cooked to perfection and great taste. The sweet corn succotash was SO GOOD. I also appreciate when they ask how many ounces I want my wine pour, 6 or 9. I mean, lets be honest I always choose 9, but the option is nice! lol Service was good and everything came out in a timely manner. If you can't produce quality products for take out stop the service or limit the number of orders you take. What a great experience, we came from out of town, it was our anniversary, I loved the atmosphere, they had the fireplace going and it was so nice looking at the water. The food was great, amazing really, I had the steak and my husband had the chicken risotto which were delicious, I had the pomegranate mule and it was delicious, super gingery which I enjoyed. Rich, our server was great, they were busy with some prom, high school formal but every time he walked by at least gave us a good look over to see how we were doing. I got a free dessert for checking in, and I felt comfortable to ask for it to go, he was very gracious and got it for us. We will definitely be back even if we have to drive from out of town, it was a great experience. I have been here many times when I visit Grand Rapids and it never disappoints. As soon as you walk in there is a cozy fireplace that's says come in and stay awhile. We came on a Sunday for brunch and the Bloody Mary bar which has everything. Pickles bacon salami cheese and pepperoni. Also hot sauce dill sauce pickle juice. You name they have it. It's a meal in itself. The food also is amazing. I got chili rub burger with root chips. My companion got the beet salad. Yes, the view of the water is gorgeous, but that didn't make up for the fact that we waited an hour to receive our order of a pizza and sandwich. I understand being understaffed, but there were only 3 other tables at lunch at the same time. The manager came over to apologize which I appreciate, but the food wasn't worth the wait. The waitress brought out a glass of some dark, plum-colored thick juice. Our waitress wasn't great, so I stopped another waitress asking her ti send over a manager. I told him about the poor service when we arrived. He said nothing. Then I showed him the murky purple stuff posing as sangria. He said the bartender probably didn't stir it enough (?). He brought me another "sangria" that looked the same: cloudy. Plum colored, thick. It was absolutely awful and didn't resemble sangria at all. Then the waitress came to our table and set a pizza in frint of me. I didn't order pizza. It was another table's food. So- had to wait too long to get seated because hostess was chatting with bartender, drink I usually get there was absolutely awful, manager didn't seem to care when I told him about the wait ti be seated, replacement drink was equally awful, waitress brought wrong order... It was so nice Walking into Bluewater and seeing how lively and busy it was. The service was excellent, and the staff was so generous with their time and knowledge of the menu. The only reason review received four stars is the food was not seasoned that well but the food was still good. The lake front setting is beautiful! A great place to have a cocktail on a nice night. The service was very good. We didn't know but the bar on the lower level was much livelier than upper level. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. So why three stars? Well we shared an appetizer of chips and two dips. A huge amount of chips a very small amount of dips. Dips are in very small cups that I literally had to break chips to fit into them. We both got French dip sandwiches. Bread was excellent. I came here for the first time with my mom because she wanted a beautiful lake view and this one did not disappoint. We had excellent service from our waiter and all the food was phenomenal. Happy hour is from 2-6pm so we ended up getting a cheaper appetizer of bruschetta (delicious) and then ordered the chili crusted burger and tacos, again both fantastic. Okay, how did I not know about this place?! I loved sitting outside there by the water. Food and service were both great. We ordered a lot of cocktails but the best was the "Hot Guava" margarita with lemon and jalapeños! The boys loved the Blu Bar Eggrolls, their take on the new trend of cheeseburger egg rolls. The corn and banana peppers were a good touch and loved the caramelized onion! The tomato bruschetta was very good. Very acidic of course and I would've preferred the crostini to be a bit more toasted as that much marinated tomato it made it a tad soggy, however still a great, light choice! We also LOVED the Cubano pizza! There was a generous amount of pork and bacon. The sweetness from the swiss/mozz cheese blend worked well with the meat. The pickles were a good touch. BEAUTIFUL view of the water from both indoor and outdoor tables. Host and server were both great and everything came out promptly. We went around 2-3 pm in the afternoon. Putting it down for all things GR this week. Blue Water another Gilmore establishment has been around for the last few years and I finally went back and enjoyed a nice dinner there. This isn't the greatest restaurant in the Grand Rapids area but it certainly has a solid offering for food and this is what makes it just perfect. Between a killer happy hour and a spectacular view you can't go wrong dining here. Nestled on the far north end of East Beltline and Plainfield backed up to a stunning view of Versluis lake which I am old enough to know was a rock quarry. They have a wood-fired grill as the many Gilmore establishments seem to cherish. Architecture inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. The place is just pleasing to the eye and the senses especially over fall, spring and summer months. Blue's menu has some good appetizers and main courses featuring seafood, steaks and chicken. My favorite apps are the Mahi Mahi Tacos and Blu Bar Egg Rolls. read more

Disappointed. I love the outdoor dining with lake view, but I can't say that I am coming for the food anymore. Service was fine. One of my favorite things in all of GR was the root chip appetizer at Blue Water Grill. And the favorite part of that appetizer was the beet chips. Now they are gone and the appetizer is down to potato and sweet potato chips. SO SAD. That was the main reason that I loved coming to Blue Water Grill. My husband ordered bruschetta as part of his meal and that was a soggy mess because the kitchen staff skipped toasting the bread. The waitress helped to make that right. He asked for anchovies on his Caesar salad and it came plain. My French dip was super-bland. Everything on it tasted salt-free and the meat texture was odd--as if it was put through some sort of meat processor. We left and my husband said that he wouldn't care to return. I always loved going to BWG, so I am disappointed. Guests are paying a lot for meals now and we would like to see food quallity stay where it was or be even better...not worse. I haven't posted a review on Yelp in years but this Blue Water place has motivated my lazy butt to come here and sing its praises. I knew nothing about Blue Water when I first ordered doordash, but immediately became a big fan. The blackened fish tacos are *awesome*. The fish is delicious, but it's all the other parts of the dish that absolutely crush it. A cilantro aioli that's like crack, great roasted salsa, bright guacamole, these amazing marinated tomatoes (and I'm not even a tomato guy, but these are bright bursts of deliciousness). You can get other proteins with the tacos if fish isn't your jam. If fish IS your jam, I can highly recommend the walleye dish as well. Perfectly cooked fresh fish in a super tasty lemon butter sauce. Lastly, I have to call out the woodfired pizza that I just had tonight - another homerun! Delicious! You guys have a way with sauces, because that herbed pizza sauce is money in the bank. The grilled crust is fantastic too. Great, great job. I'm a big fan. Server was excellent in being patient, getting orders right and kept things moving. I really liked the environment in the restaurant and the setting on the lake is great.
