My favorite part of this place was the ambiance. The floor to ceiling windows give this place a light and airy feeling, as well as providing sustainment without leaving the building for anyone patronizing the local West End library. When I went for brunch I was early, and really hungry. I bought a croissant to tie me over after looking at the various pastries in the case. The croissants tasted exactly like those from Costco, or any grocery store. More bread than croissant, and had a soft glossy exterior, rather than a traditional flaky and buttery exterior and soft interior. Obviously they were purchased from a vendor and not even naked at an offsite kitchen. Basically, don't waste your money on them! The food came and potions are fairly small. Everything was good, but nothing was great. I did appreciate that with a limited menu they were able to accommodate and provide several options for all sorts of food allergies. One item that was not on the current menu, and would highly recommend (although it sounds odd), is the apple cider oat drink. It's like a creamy hot apple cider, but with no dairy. The service was mediocre, at best. Several items were forgotten, and service scattered. I'm not sure if that is a result of a skeletal wait staff, but based on the limited menu, it should not have been such an issue. I'm sure this place makes for a great coffee shop, just come with tempered expectations. UPDATE: we all have those off days, and based on positive feedback went back to check it out again. This time everything from the service to the food was right on pointe! The food and drink came out quick, the staff checked on us regularly (without being obtrusive), and the food was incredibly fresh. Yesterday was a big moment for me. I popped the question to my girlfriend, now fiancé (aka #wife-elect) at the Lincoln Memorial. After, we celebrated with our friends that helped us with the surprise proposal for brunch here. Excellent service and we'll maintained social distancing with Covid precautions executed to the best of standards I've seen this entire lockdown. I loved how quick and efficient the QR code system worked to set up our drink and food orders! The staff were on point to provide having our drinks and food in a safe and effective manner. Food: I had the Soft Chili Scramble with Avocado and Potato Wedges on the side. Excellent flavor and pairing. My only negative was this felt like a tappas sized portioning and after proposing and walking around the reflection pool and up to here I was starving so I ended up finishing my now "wife-elect" meal since she couldn't finish all of hers. She had the brunch greens bowl with a side of potato wedges. Drinks: There were so many options to choose from that it took me a minute to pick. We each had a glass of champagne to cheers but then I decided to have hot chocolate since it was a bit chilly out and the rest of the party ordered their own special styled coffee. Plus, it was really delicious, included petals of an edible flower, nuts, blueberries strewn about on the plate, a nice dollop of whipped'ish cream, and all that jazz. Very yummy. Had the pleasure of dining here with a friend (who is actually from Australia!) who raved about this place's Aussie breakfast. I've never been to Australia, nor had I ever had an Australian breakfast, so I was very much looking forward to the experience! We had to wait for about 25 minutes to be seated which isn't at all terrible if you are with someone and the conversation is flowing but don't come here if you are in a rush! We snagged a table inside and I was immediately taken back by the sheer Instagram-worthy atmosphere of the restaurant. It's got a very cute, tropical theme going for it. So #putitonthegram. I started with the latte flight, which had a matcha latte, turmeric latte and a beet latte. Again, very photo-worthy. All three were actually pretty good but my favorite was surprisingly the beet latte. I ordered the green baked eggs, a dish I have never tried before. I really liked the subtle flavors of the feta cheese and the tomatoes and mushrooms with the spinach and chimichurri. I'd definitely order this again. My friend ordered the salmon brioche and had positive things to say about it! The only reason I am docking a star is for the service. We were seen by at least four different waitstaff and they were all pretty pushy and nobody ever came to check on us at any point during the meal which I thought was odd. The interior of this place was my favorite; natural light, teal accents, and an industrial feel made it very aesthetically pleasing (it's also directly connect to a DC library)... it makes for the perfect brunch spot. I was very excited to try this place especially with all the outstanding reviews and mouthwatering pictures... We arrived at Bluestone around 11:45am on a Saturday and was greeted by the hostess. She sat us down at a table immediately. The restaurant was very cute and chic. It definitely felt like we were sitting at a coffee shop in New York City. Unfortunately, our experience started to go downhill from the time we were seated. We noticed that every vacant table had cups & a bottle of water. However, we just had a bottle of water on our table with no cups. We patiently waited for our server to come and greet us. About 12-15 minutes goes by and there was still no sign of our waiter. That is when my boyfriend flagged one down. We figured it would also be smart to place our order since their service seemed to have been slow. We ordered a matcha latte, mocha, breakfast bowl, & green eggs. I asked our waiter if the matcha was sweet or bitter and he looked very puzzled and could not answer my question so I asked him to put some honey in my latte. It took another 12-15 minutes for our drinks to come out and of course there was no honey in my latte. I couldn't address this to anyone because we still did not have an assigned waiter. Eventually, I asked the busboy if he could bring out some honey and he did. Minutes go by and there was still no sign of our food. Our busboy (I guess also our waiter) asked us if we put in an order for food and we told him what we ordered. Finally, after 45+ minutes of waiting he brought out our food. Don't get me wrong, Bluestone does a great job of MAKING the food look presentable and "instagram worthy" but the food itself was just mehhh. I don't know why something that takes 10 minutes to make took so long to come out. My breakfast bowl was basically a bunch of spinach pilled on the bottom and the green egg was very watery from the tomatoes. I personally do not believe their prices match with the quality of the food. Their bathroom was also very dirty with toilet paper all over the ground and their trashcan was overflowing with paper towels. The napkin also had a big stain on it. Not to mention, their cups looked very old as their logo was faded. I don't know about you, but I am all about presentation. If I was the manager of the store I would have tossed away anything that was stained and/or worn out. Bluestone is a MILLENNIAL TRAP that drags you into the doors by serving their avocado toast and mediocre coffee. Let me set the scene for my experience here. I walk in on a Wednesday morning around 10. The place is almost full, and it's not really clear if it's self-seating or not. I walk up to the register area, and ask someone if I seat myself. He says yes, someone will be right with you to take your order. I get a table right by the windows, and sit down. As I'm sitting, there's a server with a blond ponytail busying herself at an empty table right next to mine. Note that the table is clean, she is just rearranging silverware and napkins. She walks away without acknowledging me. I continue to wait. I have no menu. No water. And honestly, I'm running out of patience. She returns to a guest at a table (again, right next to mine), and checks in with her about ordering anything else. They exchange words, she orders a juice, and the server still doesn't come to my table. At this point, almost 10 minutes have gone by. I'm borderline hangry and definitely thirsty, and can't even get a menu or free agua. I walk over to the counter/register and stand in front of someone. He's making a drink, and says he'll be right with me. Not too long after, he asks how he can help me. I make sustained and meaningful eye contact saying, I hope you can help me. I have a problem. I can't get service. A server has been by twice and failed to acknowledge my presence both times. How can I get service? Truthfully, I should have walked away before even going up to the counter. I'll take my hard owned coins elsewhere if I can't get the same service as everyone else. He looked surprised, and apologized.Thankfully, someone nearby heard my struggle and said, I'll take care of you. And that she did. She followed me to my table, brought a menu and water, and was kind. I really appreciated that. Positive that avocado toast or toast and spread wasn't going to cut it, I opted for a smoked salmon and beet sandwich. This item cost $15 and was served a la carte. While decent, it was super light and not satisfying enough for me. At that price point, I would not order it again. I needed an appropriate side, and there wasn't anything on the menu I could get. Lo and behold, after another server had already taken care of me, chick with the blonde ponytail came to ask me how I was doing. Now you can see me?!?! And a different server also checked on me. It became almost too much with multiple servers asking the same question, and too little too late. The saving grace? That one server who took care of me and comped my sandwich. I first tried this place when it had been open for a few months. I am always on the lookout for good coffee, especially pour over, or cold brew. This place is a bit of a walk from my work, but it is totally worth the time to get some good coffee :) The folks here are super friendly and service is quick and with a smile! They do have a good ranger of coffee drinks and food options to pick from. My regular here are the cold brew, or cappuccino along with one of their muffins. Overall the ambiance on the inside is lovely! There is a ton of natural light that comes through the completely windowed two sides of the restaurant. We walked in on a week day and immediately got a table and for a party of 5 that is pretty impressive. The service was also pretty good, though they were training new staff they managed to integrate them into service in a smart way so they were supervised (less prone to get orders wrong). The food was so healthy and fresh! I certainly got the Aussie vibes they were throwing out with their menu options. I got the collective granola and a chai, both which were extremely delicious. The granola was a little skimpy on the fruit so for other people looking to order this ask for extra fruit as well as lemon curd. But the drinks were all hot and creamy and the chai was pretty sweet but not Starbucks level sugary. This Bluestone Lane is a nice, bougie "brunch then study" spot if you're a college student with some time and money to burn. I wish they called phone numbers, but, alas, we needed to wait within earshot. I came here sometime last spring and had the Classic BL Baked Eggs, which I loved (picture from that meal uploaded!!). It was warm, filling, and very saucy. For some reason, it wasn't on the menu today, which was more disappointing to me than I would've thought. The warm tomato eggs would've perfectly complemented the unexpectedly cold weather today. I got the Baked Green Eggs instead, which was the closest substitute on the menu, but a far cry from the classic baked eggs. There was no leftover tomato sauce to dip the bread in, just a sad, thin layer of olive oil left on the skillet. Still tasty, but I left with a wistful yearning for the classic BL baked eggs. On a happier note, I highly, highly recommend the affogato--smooth espresso with deliciously creamy vanilla ice cream. Yum! I'll be back to eat when the Classic BL Baked Eggs are back on the menu. I came here for a light Saturday brunch with my friend, and we were both really impressed! For the two of us around 2:30 pm on Saturday there wasn't much of a wait. I arrived slightly before my friend and added us to the list, and they seated as soon as she arrived. We both thought that sounded fun, and ordered them. We both thought they were delicious, and I'm honestly not sure how I can go back to regular iced coffee now. I got my coffee with a Proscuitto and Egg hand roll. I expected the roll to be on the smaller side since it wasn't very pricey, but it was absolutely huge. It had plenty of prosciutto, a fried egg, spinach, and tomato, and was easier to eat with a fork and knife. I thought it was really fresh-tasting, but I would probably opt to add feta next time I got it to give it a little extra something. Service here was good. We had a couple different people come by our table to check on us at different points and they were all friendly and attentive. I also really appreciated our main server's Australian iced latte recommendation, which was really helpful for choosing a bomb option. The space itself was also really beautiful and fresh, and practically seemed made for Instagram. It probably wouldn't be my first cafe choice for a place to do work since it was pretty bustling and noisy, but it was a nice spot for coffee and a conversation. Cute little cafe we found on our last day. For one, it's attached to a public library so that is so cool. The architecture of the space is really neat. Everything down the plateware and glasses show that they paid attention to details. I had green eggs, which was served in an individual skillet, almost like a shakshouka. And my husband had the banana bread toast, which was two thick cut pieces of banana bread served with ricotta. Really good. Next time I'll try their avocado toast which is apparently legendary. Keep in mind this place is CASHLESS and PAPERLESS. You don't get a bill, they just swipe your card.
