There's a lot of banh mi calis but you can't judge all based on one location. This place was okay, if you're used to eating at fancier, expensive vietnamese restaurants you are probably not going to like this place. Other than that, this is probably a fine food to go spot you will definitely like. I'm not sure if they have some other specials (from the faded menu) but there was some specials I did ordered. From 3 pm to 6 pm, there are rice or vermicelli(bun) bowls for around 6 dollars. You won't be extremely full but you would definitely not be hungry after eating. Sorry, BMC is to Vietnamese restaurants in the area what Taco Bell is to Mexican. Which doesn't necessarily mean I'm being desparaging; on the contrary, there are plenty of times a 79 cent taco is a better option for a certain time, place, and mood, than a $12.99 sit-down taco plate with rice and beans. By the same token, BMC has pho and hot-pot and banh mi and all for cheap! cheap! cheap! prices. BOGO specials and Yelp check in specials for free this and free that. The A-OK rating is merited because this is essentially a chain/franchise style operation with a varied menu, and it's all just fine... but as a self-described broth snob, I've never been wowed by anything here. I usually like to order a Pho tai Nam Gan Sach or the Dac Biet special with all the trimmings. The closest thing here is ... fine... but not toe-curling wow. Like I said, sometimes a cruncherito or a bean n cheese burrito wrapped in paper gets the job done. Same thing here, in my experience. Parking is generally tough, with a small crowded lot, and the busy intersection of Lower Azusa and Santa Anita keeping things interesting. If you have never heard or been to a BMC, the way I describe it to people is the McDonald's of Vietnamese food. If you have never been to a BMC, I recommend going to one and trying it. This one is slightly different than other BMC since it has hot pot. I ate here for lunch at 12 PM and it was pretty empty. There were only 3 customers but the parking lot was pretty full. The food came out quick and it looked nicely prepared. I ordered the vermicelli since I have been craving that. First off, the shrimp was good, it wasn't soggy and it was pretty crisp. The noodles had a good ratio with the lettuce in the bottom however it was missing bean sprouts to give it the nice crunch. The meat was good and flavorful and it also came with an egg roll. The egg roll is their normal egg roll that you can buy by itself, and it's not the traditional egg roll that is deep fried. If you check in on yelp, you get one free tea. Love this place so much! My family drives an hour from Burbank to El Monte just for this place. I've been to many many many Banh Mi Che Calis and I can honestly say this is the best Banh Mi Che there is. It's owned by a different owner therefore it's called "BMC". The exterior had very minimal renovations, so it still looks like this restaurant used to be something else. Service is descent. Nothing more of just an exchange of ordering and grabbing your food. Sandwiches are buy 2 get 1 free on French bread. Over time these sandwiches have become smaller and smaller. I usually get #2 Meatloaf and headcheese. I gave the BBQ beef a try this time and it was basically a hamburger beef patty. Basic boba drinks are buy 1 get 1 free. These drinks too have gotten smaller and smaller over time. While the price just keeps climbing. With the BOGO deal drinks used to be about $1 each and now it's $2 each. If you want something more fancy than just a basic boba drink, there's Smoothies and other new interesting drinks to try from the menu. I was quite a thirsty camel when I was driving home and luckily I had my 1.5 L hydroflask in the car. The pho ga also comes with the usual garnishes (basil, bean sprouts, and sliced chili). BMC may be the McDonnel's of the Vietnamese. It's basically go up to the counter & order. They give you a number on a metal stand so they can find you if want want to sit at a table. Kai Vi: Melange of snacky appetizers Like fast food, some of the food like the fried Cha Gio/fried Vietnamese style egg rolls are pre-fried so that it is not as crisp as just out of the hot oil. However, the filling of ground pork, carrots, cabbage is meaty & tasty. The Nem Nuong Cuon-like fresh spring roll has a rice paper wrapping filled w/ lettuce, steamed pork pate, lightly pickled carrots, rice noodle, Vietnamese basil, a long stick of fried rice cruller for oily crunchiness. Since the Nem Nuong was pre-made, the rice wrapper dried out in places so it came out chewy & tough which is not the case at Brodard in Little Saigon where the orange tinted sauce was Tuon Cham. Here the sauce is Nuoc Cham which is a diluted, sweetened Nuoc Mam fish sauce. However, the basic flavour was within norm. Shrimp wrapped in rice paper & fried was a nice contrast of softer, sea meat Umami of the shrimp & the land based crispness of the rice paper. Simple yet satisfying. The Jasmine tea was pre-sweetened to the point it was too cloying. Also the jasmine flavour seemed almost like a toxic chemical afterthought. Very artificial tasting to the point I had to trash it which is unusual for me since I don;t like to waste anything. And wouldn't you know it, they had a 2 for 1 special for this noxious libation. I heard from Yelper Kim T. that the Pho Ga/chicken rice noodle soup is good there so until I sample that, my Yelp rating is closer to 2+ Yelp stars. read more

They have the typical B2GO free deal. Their sandwiches are the most expensive I have seen, usually $3.50 each, they charge $3.85. They are also the smallest in size, the bread was less then 8 inches, usually they are at least 10-12 inches. Egg Roll - 65 cents - Crispy and the meat was good. Super oily though. Coats your tongue with oil. #2 Gio Thu - $3.85 - The meats were fine but they were all cut in different thickness. The pickled veggies were all cut in random sizes and I had some carrot chunks. I am used to everything being uniform and cut evenly. The bread itself tasted like day olds, not fresh at all. Very disappointing. I will never come back to this location. read more
