Boardner's is a solid spot if you're looking for a club vibe in Hollywood. There's usually a $20 cover, but it's one of the few places that allows 18+, which is why I used to go more often. The drinks are reasonably priced at $11 before tip, and the music was actually pretty good. If you're into a livelier scene, it's a fun place to check out, but these days I prefer quieter bars. read more

Let me preface this with I love this place. I am a regular and come all the time. The food is great, the drink prices are reasonable, and all the bartenders and bar backs are great except for one... and she is a notable exception. The bartender I am talking about is named "Cat", and honestly I have no idea why anyone would keep her employed. She is routinely rude, underpiurs and overcharges, plays favorites, is often out smoking while the place is somewhat busy (which is rare on her shifts unless the club is open next door). Usually I have been somewhat tolerant of her antics. I have even tried being friendly. But this last experience was the last straw. I went to meet a group of 5 friends including my girlfriend. We sat at a back booth and were spending a lot of miney. Between us we spent over $300 on a night that wasn't very crowded. The bar was nearly empty and most people were sitting at tables. We were ordering food and drinks. We were polite and a group where three of us were in our 50s and two were about 30. We ordered our first drinks at the bar, and as we were in a horseshoe shaped table that was hard to get out of (I had two people on each side of me), when the bar back would deliver our food we would ask him to put in our drink orders. (This is usual practice with any other bartender working and has never been a problem). At one point she yelled across the bar calling my name specifically that "You know we don't have table service here. You're nit special... come get your drink" My friends were shocked. So fine... two of my friends got up to let me out and I went up to the counter to get my pathetically low poured drink, and while I was up there I made it a point to put in the orders for what my friends wanted to save them a trip. I then brought their drinks to them one by one even though I am in physical therapy for back issues that make it hard to be on my feet. As our food is brought out by the bar back who was a very polite and nice young man,, we simply asked while he was already there to put in our next round of drink orders. It wasn't even me doing it. He goes up and puts in the drink orders (which were very simple... everyone was having an old-fashioned, and I was drinking scotch on the rocks. We told him we would watch when they were ready and come puck them up from the counter. We are sitting enjoying our food and she storms over and again yells at me specifically saying "I told you we don't have f-ing table service. You have to come to the counter to order them and come to the counter to pick them up. You think you're special. You're not special. My one friend who is a woman of about 55 and a complete sweetheart who is very hard to anger said "that was uncalled for. You're being very rude. The guy was just here dropping our food and asked us if we wanted anything else. With your attitude we just won't come here again". Cat replied "fine, I don't care if you do." The other friends chimed in in kind to her also being polite but making the point. Now I managed 3 bars in Manhattan back in the 90s, and I will tell you that if I ever saw an employee of any kind being rude to a customer and dropping an f-bomb that would be the last day they were ever employed. I go into the bar at Boardners often and always tip well and am polite and dressed well. I have meetings there, I meet friends there, and some of us actually in the past have called ahead to make sure she isn't working and if she is we choose another place. In this customer's opinion she is a cancer. She seems to dislike heterosexual masculine men. She is routinely rude unless you are one of her favorites. (i have even tried being friendly with her to no avail). I think most of the other bartenders are aware of the problem with her but don't say anything to the owner because she is friends with the owner. Without her and on any other night this place would get 5 stars. It's cute, and the food and drinks are good and reasonable and the service is usually great. She could have said what she said nicely and politely, but that is not what she seems to want to choose to do. She is unprofessional and rude. Worst bartender I have ever encountered anywhere. The second worst is closer to the best than they are to Cat. This visit all of us wrote on the checks in the tip spit that "cat was rude" and left no tip. First time ever in my life I didn't leave a tip. The bar back was great and we told him we wanted to tip him in cash, but he said he wasn't allowed to do that. We would still like to do so, as we wouldn't want to stiff him because of her rude behavior. read more

DO NOT GOT HERE!! The bouncers were incredibly violent towards my friend and took away his ID. They put him in a chokehold and pinned him against a car. He didn't provoke them and they attacked him anyways. They also threatened to use pepper spray against him. read more

Such a fun experience with unique music and atmosphere that is totally ruined by the staff. Security is INCREDIBLY rude and aggressive, especially the older men. I have watched them yell at people and even insult them for very minor reasons. I also witnessed one of the older security guards flirt with two underage girls inside, and give them 21+ wristbands once they buttered him up. Very gross and off-putting. read more

My suggestion: Don't expect to be respected at this bar. Today, May 7, I went to this place to look for my credit card that I accidentally left there yesterday after stopping for a drink and snack with my wife. I'd asked to close out, but the bartender never brought the check and we left without realizing it. I called them as soon as I got home, and the person I talked to said I could pick it up the next day after 5pm. The bartender asked me to wait. I waited 10-15 minutes. She told me that she was busy and that I should wait at least 20 minutes more to receive my card. When I tried to (nicely) to convey I'd already been waiting a long time and had parked my car in a spot with a time limit, she told me, "you have to wait because it's your fault that you left the card." Zero manners, zero customer service. She even pointed me out to the barback and told him to ignore me! Of course I'm not going back to this place unless someone tells me that this bartender no longer works there. Btw, I want to stress to the manager/owner of this place that this was the worst customer experience I've ever received in my three years living in LA. read more

On October 27th, a group of friends and I attended a special event called "Club Decades" at this establishment for their Halloween event. My group experienced discrimination and was unjustly denied entry on the basis of unfounded allegations. They caimed our friend was drinking in line when she wasn't. We asked for proof and the bouncers just laughed. In contrast, we observed the venue's security staff permitting individuals with open alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia to enter the event. Furthermore, the entrance area was littered with empty alcohol containers. I personally overheard one of the bouncers, identified as "Zeke", who is African American, acknowledging an individual's possession of cocaine paraphernalia, yet they were still granted entry. Our group believes that we were singled out due to our gender and age, and the bouncers declined to disclose their identities. I hope the venue's management will investigate their adherence to their own policies and those of the state of California. The behavior of the bouncers at this establishment is both misogynistic and unprofessional. I would strongly advise anyone contemplating a visit to this venue to consider spending their money elsewhere. After reading these other reviews, these bouncers and security guards have a long history of discrimination, misogyny, aggressiveness, and a major power trip. With all of these other reviews similar to mind, I' 'm surprised they haven't been sued yet. read more

Writing this review late, but I did attend a Club Decades event on 1/6/23 and I haven't been back since. I'm glad that others have already talked about what I'm about to say too. The bouncers here are the worst type of people imaginable. They're rude, extremely unprofessional, and power trip. I can still remember coming here for the first and only time. They get passive-aggressive with you over asking about simple yes/no questions. Clearly they hate working there and hate people even more. I could also see that they were giving others a hard time in line too. This place probably hires them only because they're cheap or something because they definitely spoiled the image of the club before I even went in. One was kind enough to pass out fliers for his social media (mixtape) handles in line... I promise you no one cares. Sorry for the others that have dealt with these guys. I share your sentiment. Boardner's used to be our goto Hollywood joint. We always loved the vibe inside and outside on their amazing patio.. now with covid being a thing the patio is just perfect! They have cute little tables on the alley and a gorgeous patio space, some comfy couches with tables also! Their happy hour is AMAZINg, esp on Sundays when it's all day! Super affordable and always delicious food. Everything I've ever tried has been so so good. My usual gotta are the chicken tenders, chicken nachos, wontons, mac n cheese, fries (they are perfectly crispy) and tonight I tried the mozzarella sticks and Cobb salad with delicious blackened grilled chicken. 20$ for food and more than enough for my boyfriend and I to split. I was accused of stealing something from someone here and instead of being treated like I was innocent, BECAUSE I WAS, security was verbally aggressive and had no empathy for me being separated from my group. Tried to tell mgmt but they are proud of how their lame ass security handled things. Been coming regularly since before they made Bar Sinister 21+, it's been that long. For over a year now I've been coming on Friday's for Club Decades, there's a $15 cover charge, there's bands playing on the patio, and that's where the fun all ends. You get inside- half of the dj's are unbearable and the pathetic excuse for what they consider "dancers" are rude and barely move if/when they're just not straight up on their phones or crouched down talking to their friends. This past week 6/9/23 was particularly horrible. I took a video of the "dancers" clearly not doing their jobs and sent it directly to Club Decades official IG to make a complaint, because we're paying to get in and these people are ruining the vibe week after week. I was actually shocked by the unprofessionalism that proceeded- the official IG went on my story, saw the same video I had sent them but I posted it with an unsavory caption because....I had every right to, SHARED IT directly to those two people and then I got HARASSED by both of them with thee most childish and irrelevant messages ever, as if they had forgotten that I'm a paying club go-er and their employees that clearly can't do their jobs and apparently feel like they shouldn't be held to the same standards as any other rest of the staff and as if people aren't allowed to complain when they get mediocre service for something that's a part of what they paid for. Boardner's has been around for so long and I've watched this place nose dive just in the last 7 years. They clearly don't care, they clearly hire whoever they can find off the street, and they clearly run their business with the same professionalism than your average high school lunch room. read more

Extremely disappointed with my experience with security. My friend was refused entry because security said there's a dress code, "no gym attire". We looked up beforehand if there's a dress code. Nowhere does it say there is. They told us we could go around the block to buy jeans. We did walk around the block but there were no shops open. I was wearing a skirt and a cutout shirt, where I wear sometimes to go to the gym. I've been to this club before and have had a wonderful time. I went inside the business for 5 minutes to see a hardly packed room with the DJ not even wearing a shirt. There were also GoGo dancers that night that were wearing less than gym attire. My friend is in the LGBTQ community which I hate to contemplate the reason of refusal of entry. If it's not homophobic, their rules are misogynist and definitely made me feel uncomfortable walking in with a short skirt. Please update your rules so our time isn't wasted. read more

This bar was so cool. Apparently it was the last bar the black dahlia was seen alive in. You walk through a curtain (kinda scary) to get in. They have happy hour from 5-8 currently and beer was $5. They also had many apps during happy hour for $7. My friend and I split the nachos and they were better than some Mexican restaurants I've had. Keenan's customer service is optimal for a bar. He is gregarious and looking to make sure you party is not waiting for drinks or food. I am particular about my vodka sodas and Keenan takes care of me. I decided to order some food and went straight to Keenan for advise. He recommended the street tacos and said the fish was exceptional. My tacos were euphoria. They had a generous portion of avocado. All three of my tacos were made with love. Giving a shout out to chef Alejandro who is making sure you are well feed! Kenny who is roaming the area cleaning up and making sure you are doing good. I think Kenny is a good will ambassador. Last but not least is Eli. The king. He works the bar inside and he will blow you away with his customer service. Not only does he remember your drink, what you like, and how you like it; he treats you like you own the place! No matter how busy he is. Eli has bartending down to a science. Went here last night and got my phone stolen out of my zip-upped bag here. When we went up to one of the workers outside working the cover fee and asked if we could leave a phone number to look out for for when we called later, he said "Just look up the number online". Security was no help, said phones don't show up to them and they get stolen all the time. At least one of the bartenders "tried" looking for it (he just looked at the register). My girlfriend was drinking a pink lemonade from In N Out before coming in that she finished halfway through the line. Oh dear lord, can I write about a 25 year history about this venue. Some say it's hunted. Many moons ago, when I was young and fierce, I lived down the street. The terror we would cause! LOL! In those days it was all about Bar Sinister and sometimes Blue Mondays . The wine selection is impressive and in the passed I forgotten my ID or credit cards and they have always kindly saved them for me. Good Times! Now I only visit in the summers when I am off. It is really impressive what Bruce Perdew has managed to pull off for over 2 decades with the Evil Empire! Good job Mr. Bruce! Parking is a nightmare servers/bartenders are cool security is chill 21 over The Tent in the patio is a nice touch but it traps in all the cigarette smoke smell. I guess now that I stopped smoking it is something I have to deal with. Great music video/visuals screen. read more
