I will tell you now the place is the size of a shoebox. Frank n Hanks is such a fun little hidden gem. It is a small tucked away bar with a cozy feel but still kept pretty clean inside, which I appreciated. The vibe is laid back and welcoming, and Spencer and Damon were incredible hosts who made the night even better with their friendliness. The bar has darts and a pool table which adds to the casual entertainment, and there are plenty of drink options with some really solid deals. Beers run about five to eight dollars and they even offer a five dollar mystery shot which makes things fun. One of my favorite dive bars in town. Inexpensive drinks ($11 for my Ford's Gin 'n tonic) and excellent service from the bartenders. On a slow night Justin can easily keep up with drink orders while beating you at darts. Dodgers and Lakers games usually on the TVs. Last call at 1:30 am most nights. There's one scruffy pool table in the bar, one dart board, and the men's room has more graffiti than most men's rooms. It gets packed Thursdays through Saturdays. Plenty of friendly people in the bar. Very diverse crowd. One night as I was walking up, a woman stumbled out and threw up right at the entrance. Everyone just stepped over it to get in. The only thing this place is missing is good bar food, but you're welcome to bring your own. Monty's is next door where you can get a good plant-based burger, or you can go across the street to Carl's Jr and get a Star Burger for half the price. Loads of excellent Korean food nearby. It would be nice if someone opened a taco stand in the parking lot at the corner. No parking, of course, and this part of K-Town can be tough to find a spot. Best to Uber/Lyft anyway. Frank & Hank is a venerable dive bar next to Monty's Good Burger near the Wilshire district. The friendly bar-t told me that F&H may date back to the 1930's so Frank and Hank are long gone. Also mentioned their children are now getting on in years. F&H has gone through a series of owners including an F&H waitress.    I was parked in front on the way back from Kinn, a great Modern Korean Cuisine restaurant about a block away. So I wanted a creamy dessert drink like Bailey's Irish Cream.  Like a true dive bar, they only had this lousy "creamy" coffee liqueur that must have been sitting around since the bar opened 90 years ago. I guess sticking with hard liquors and beers is the way to go.  By 9pm the music starts cranking up to create a "party hearty" mood so high tailed it out of there. Not too many classic dive bars that still look like the original left in L.A.  Hollywood Frolic Room, which is much classier, comes to mind.   3+ stars. read more

As far as dive bar vibes... Frank N Hanks comes alive! This tiny tavern of music, mayhem and more offers everything you'd expect at a whole in the wall joint in the middle of Koreatown including amazing prices on brews, booze and cocktails. Have passed by a few times on my way to Monty's Good Burger just next door but have popped in for a pint or two and chill vibes including that of the bartenders, Frank N Hanks patrons and even securityas well, they obviously card. Parking in the area is find it and grab it with some lots here and there. I usually take the LA Metro Purple Line from Wilshire/Western over and just stroll down Western (about a quick five minute). It's a hole in the wall, but it's been in business since 1933 for a reason. The "screamo bartender" that dude in a review called annoying is honestly my favorite one. Go for the dive vibes, stay for the cheap beer and the heavy pours. It doesn't feel awkward to go there alone, and the staff keeps an eye out for female customers. There's a pool table in the back, a set of dice behind the bar, and a well-stocked Jukebox. They put on the Dodgers games every time they play, but the main draw is probably the music-- if the jukebox isn't working one of the bartenders will DJ. The crowd is hit or miss, but it's honestly the bartenders that make it fun anyway. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are chill, Thursdays and Sundays are fun, and Friday and Saturday are usually busy if you like that sort of thing. I go there a lot. The bathrooms are as disgusting and full of graffiti as any respectable dive bar. read more

Given it took me 20 hours recover from time spent here last night, I'd say fun times are definitely had at this bar. Popped over here randomly with some friends after dinner and dug the cozy dive bar vibe and mellow bartenders. Attentive, no attitude. We really liked Justin who tended to us most of the night, keeping the drinks flowing. Drinks are decently-priced, based on my receipt that fell out of my purse this morning: $5 Bud Light, $6 Guinness, $8 Jameson, $5 Whiteclaw...were what got us all significantly lit. There's a jukebox, pool table, and some room to move, as well as a fairly clean bathroom, so it's dive bar without being gross dive bar. We noticed a younger crowd, but still had a great time. Sorry in advance if I don't like your checkins, pics, and if I don't read your reviews until the 27th or so. My buddy who lives in KTown has been telling me about this dive bar, Frank N Hank's for some time now. To give you a mental perspective of what it is like, think of the Monte Carlo Bar (featured on Tony Bourdain when he is hanging out w/ Roy Choi). FNH is just a little cleaner, and its located on Western & 5th in KTown. We ordered top shelf liquor for $6/drink (yes, you heard me correctly). The cost was half of what you would normally pay in LA. The bartender was super cool, and he poured some stiff drinks. He is a tequila drinker like me, so he bought my first drink. Likewise, the ambiance is old skool. There is a long bar, a jukebox, and a pool table in the back. Peeps are chill. KTown obviously has Korean restaurants, sooljips (drinking establishments), and karaoke places. However, there are a lot of non-Korean type places like FNH also. If you are in the area looking for inexpensive & stiff drinks, FNH is your place. read more

They might as well rename Frank 'n' Hank to "The Old Gray Mare" 'cause she ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be... Not having been to Frank 'n' Hank in donkey's years, I stopped in while in the neighborhood for a beer, and the place seemed completely different. The Frank 'n' Hank of a decade ago was brighter, cheerier, cleaner, and just a more upbeat, cool place to hang out. This place... it was as if half the lights just didn't work. The place looked totally worn-out and sad. The clientele were all guys in their twenties or thirties drinking PBR, and while it thankfully wasn't a hipster crowd, these guys... well, the late Tom Petty sang that even guys like them get lucky sometimes. It was all I could do not to chug down my five-dollar Miller High Life and bolt because I couldn't take another nanosecond of the excruciatingly lame conversation about television shows between a Jay and Silent Bob-lookalike pair two stools down. I read after-the-fact that the firecracker of a bartender who used to run the place has left; that sadly makes a lot of sense - the place feels soulless compared to the past. Frank 'n' Hank isn't a dive - it's a dump. I won't be back. read more

I live within walking distance of Frank N Hanks, and while it's never the place I expressly leave my house to visit, I pass by it often enough that it figures into my drinking life, usually as a last stop on my way home. It's an inviting little bar, and sometimes it speaks to me and I feel compelled to go inside, particularly after beers-only drinking at Beer Belly down the block. There's not a lot to the place. It's small and narrow, the bar taking up half of the space, with some seating against the wall opposite. Somehow there's room for some of the classic dive bar features--TV, jukebox, pool table, darts. Seating is plentiful, which is nice, even on weekend nights. The vibe is casual and fun. The drinks are fine, standard dive bar material. No beers on draft, but plenty of options for liquor. No craft cocktails, but reasonable well drinks and boilermaker specials. I've had some easy drinking whiskey here--W. L. Weller Bourbon, High West Double Rye. Definitely nothing that isn't much cheaper at home, but sometimes you want to sit and relax in a low key bar. I doubt I'd seek this place out if I didn't live nearby, but I'm glad to have it in the neighborhood and will continue to drop in once in a while. If you're looking for a good casual bar in Koreatown, Frank N Hanks is a safe bet. read more

Great Dive As dive bars go--nothing to brag about but as I am a dive bar connoisseur-- this one pretty much rocks. I cruised there last Saturday night after a show at the Wiltern and it was a perfect way to keep it going. Eclectic crowd playing pool and darts. The owner was chillin with us. It's been there since the early 70's, I believe someone said. My first visit was last Weds., the day of the pouring rainstorm. F & H is a treasure, a little jewel of a friendly dive bar. I can't believe it took me so long to get there! There is a dart board and one pool table (be forewarned: hustlers). There's a good juke box. The bathroom was clean. The service was efficient. I saved the best for last: beer is $3, mixed drinks are $3.50. Parking was extremely difficult in the area near 6th & Western, but worth the hassle. I'll be back, and soon. (I intended to go back last night for a second visit but could find no place to park on a Friday at 9pm. I finally gave up and continued on to BGL a bit ahead of schedule.) read more

Find it right past the Wiltern between 5th and 6th on Western across the street from Carl's Jr. in K-town. If you blink, you will pass it! Here you will find a really large, fully stocked bar that takes up most of the space in this quint watering hole. There's one pool table in the back and like maybe one little table with additional stools... This is essentially it. Bar with chipped varnish and stains from its years of solid faithful serving- Check! Happily worn out bar stools with upholstery that have seen better days but will never fail to offer respite- Check! Big ass oil painting of a naked chick laying on her belly hanging high above the barroom- Check! Essential tacky bar décor such as Budweiser mirror with Budweiser girls in bathing suits super imposed over the mirror- Check! Jukebox that will play 18 songs for $5- Check! (my picks: Bob Marley, The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Robin Thicke, Ben Harper, The Cars, Audioslave, Tom Petty, & U2) Dark homie little bar no one is ever gonna find you at- Check! Sweet mother-like Korean bartender who will serve you two stiff Jack and cokes (mine was a diet coke) for $9- Check! Seriously. I heart this spot. The bathrooms are clean. Drinks are good and cheap.
