On Saturday, January 4th I ran into a major snafu for my husband's birthday party and needed to find a new venue within a couple hours for over 10 people. Considering football games, being a Saturday night and everything else I was in a panic. I called and spoke to Jade and told her my dilemma, she was so gracious and kind and she said that although they had a number of large parties that evening that would be able to squeeze us in. We had never been before so this was our first visit. When I walked in and introduced myself to Jade she was again so nice and such a wonderful help! I felt like I could sit back and enjoy the evening. As the evening went on more guests arrived and our party went to over 15 people (apparently my husband has a lot of fans ha). I ran over to who I believe was an owner, Clayton, I could tell because this guy was busting his you know what on the floor. Making sure guests were accommodated, tables were cleaned, etc. I told him we had additions to our group and he was able to add a table to the end of the one we were at and everyone was comfortable. The food was exceptional, with so many people there were many different items ordered and everyone praised on how good it was. The beer, wine and cocktail selections are amazing, exactly what we were looking for as there was something for everyone. The live band was an added bonus. Our waiter (which I forgot his name so I truly apologize) was awesome too. He was running around to so many tables and was working very hard to keep everyone happy. We had such an amazing time and I am so appreciative to Jade, Clayton and our waiter for their hospitality and amazing service. I can't want to go back! Came here for the HH pricing. The burger was surprisingly delicious. Very juicy and flavorful which I wasn't expecting given that the patty looked like the ones I get from Costco. The fries were pretty standard and the poke looked like poke. I think it's still a little pricey for HH compared to other HH locations and I don't think I'd come for normal pricing. The location is a bit random with mainly street parking. It is kind of a cool space with the rustic shack feeling with different styles of seating and they do have live music. Service was great and very attentive to water refills which was awesome since it was so hot last week haha which yeah I don't think they really have AC. I'll start by saying that I really wanted to love this place! I stopped by once previously for a drink and made it a point to come back for dinner. Things started out okay. We ordered the sashimi which was slightly disappointing. The fish was too 'fishy' ans chewy and did not taste like sushi grade sashimi should. We also ordered the chicken katsu which was by far the best thing that we ordered. Crispy crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Amazing. Things fell apart when we received our entree. We ordered the barramundi with crispy rice and coconut curry. The fish was cooked very nicely, however, the curry and rice surrounding it was ice cold. I just couldn't do it so we sent it back in hopes that everything would come back at an equal temperature. Someone on staff came by 10 minutes later asking if we wanted fries while we waited and apologized for the error. In my opinion, I felt as though they should have offered a complimentary drink instead of french fries? The dish came back with little to no change. Fish was cooked perfectly, that I will say. But this time, we received half as much curry as the first dish which left us with a ton of dry rice. The curry and the rice were barely hotter than the first dish. I think they perhaps thought that we had an issue with this fish, which we didn't. I simply wanted to curry and the fish to be of equal temp. In addition, the drinks are extremely pricey for what you actually get. Superrr light pours on the wine. My friend ordered a cocktail with basil and there was no basil in it :/ I have no issue paying 12-15$ for craft cocktails, but they have to at least be done well and must have a decent pour. Hm place is okay! Upside is that it's REALLY chill. Downside is that it's probably a little TOO chill. There is a valet up front, but it's kinda useless with all the available street parking. This place is located right next to some up and coming apartments that are currently under construction. This place kinda looks like an abandoned warehouse from the front. Walking in, it has a nice livelihood to it. There is a small patio area to the right after immediately entering, which is cozy and quaint. They have heat lamps! They also sometimes have live music inside! After 10pm, you go to the bar to order drinks. You could order food tableside, but it takes much longer to actually get someone to help you. Me and my friend go to the bar to get some drinks. Specoalty cocktails taste great! They also have cleverly punny names which we really enjoyed! He had the Aloe There - reaaally strong but subtle floral flavor with tang. I got a Watermelon beer they had on tap. Our bartender dropped an entire bottle of alcohol on the floor and he kept on trekking and just continued to make drinks. He was really chill about it. Nothing stands out but I hear the food is awesome. Specialty cocktail was bomb but kinda small for the price point. Chill staff! Kinda located in a secluded area. When I first pulled up, I thought my gps had led me to the wrong place! The area doesn't look like it holds a bar/restaurant/event space such as this. Once we turned around and found parking, we went inside and were digging the atmosphere. It was someone's birthday, so we hung around the bar awhile, chatting it up and relaxing. Soon enough, we were escorted to the patio where we had some tables. Our server (sadly enough, I forgot his name after leaving) was amazing, and he handled our large group with ease. Visited on a Thursday and did not expect to be impressed. Ended up giving 5 stars for overall experience. Parking was super easy on the street but if no parking is available in front I would recommend the valet option. The atmosphere is great with the boat house authentic boat house...stuff. A creative drink menu kept me trying drink after drink. But the biggest surprise was the educated bar staff who were offering bourbon suggestions with supporting information on what was great about each one of their many. The menu was more gourmet than I expected and I ended up splitting a plate. More than enough for a hungry man. Interior was relaxed with surfboard decor. They also have a stage for live performances. The buratta cheese with mushrooms and arugula was delicious. We then ordered salmon which was cooked moist and filet medallions. The filet medallions were good but the sause was still a little spicy for my taste, they do ask you your spice preference and.I asked for the lowest spice. But I found it a little spicy still. Came across this place on Yelp, and decided to come in for happy hour. The menu and pictures on Yelp are much different than the actual restaurant. Kinda hard to find, but such a cute place and awesome atmosphere. They have live music almost every night and the decor is awesome. I ordered the poke from the happy hour menu, and the basil greyhound. The poke was good but a pretty small serving. The basil greyhound was ok I think I would have preferred the Moscow mule. Also ordered the butterscotch Panna Cotta for dessert it was the best thing we ordered. I also really liked the white bean dip that they automatically bring out to the table The service was really good and they were all really kind and let us keep our dog at the front of the restaurant. Made reservations online for a Thursday night at 7:15pm. I really like places that take online reservations, it makes it really easy to make any edits to the reservation. They send you a confirmation text about an hour before the reservation just to make sure that you're still coming. I arrived a little early because I read some reviews that said parking can be a little hard to find, but I called the restaurant and they let me know that I can park at the adjacent lot (which is still part of their property). The seating at the restaurant is communal, so I was seated at this long table right next to another party. Received complimentary "chips" (which were just tostadas) and a bean dip. The food here is new american, but some of the items on the menu seem to have an asian influence on it since I saw miso butter as a reoccuring ingredient in a few items. My friend and I decided to share some appetizers/sides and have a drink. We ordered the steak tataki, ahi poke, and the grom bowl. The menu seems to be a little different than the pictures on yelp and what's on their website - but that might be because their items are seasonal and change upon availability. Everything we got was great. there was a nice sear to the steak tataki and the small salad it came with really complimented the seasonings in the steak. The ahi poke came out in a bowl with each ingredient separate from each other, so we just mixed everything up. It had ahi poke, lettuce, rice, guac, blueberries and this sauce which reminded me of spicy mayo. I was hesitant at first with trying a bite with the blueberries because it seemed strange to eat blueberries with fish but it added a nice sweetness to the dish. The grom bowl was a side portion of rice, miso butter, fried chicken, and some argula. We also ordered the greyhound and a mojito and everything here was really flavorful and delicious. I'd definitely come back to try their entrees because I was eyeing the porterhouse and sweet potato with miso butter. We got great service, our server came by multiple times to check up on us and make sure we had everything we needed. There was live music playing and part of the seating area was closed off for a private event but it was a very cool place to come have dinner or grab drinks. It's a little loud because everyone's there socializing, so I wouldn't recommend it as a place to have an intimate dinner because of their communal seating arrangement. read more

The ambiance is cute, hipster in a warehouse setting on a strange side street. It's very LA. And it kinda of reminds me of Bestia, but the comparison ends there. The drinks are not bad. The food, however, is very underwhelming and expensive. I went with a friend and these are the items we got: 1. kale salad- unoriginal light, citrus vinaigrette with little chunks of some fruit (peach?) and a side of sunny side egg. It wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable either. It tasted like a salad I would make at home for myself. 2. 16 oz rib-eye steak- we asked for medium but it came out medium rare. It was extremely chewy and stringy that I gave up eating it simply because I couldn't cut through it. Then my friend and I looked at each other and thought: why should we pay $40 for a piece of meat that we have to give up trying to eat it!! 3. risotto- my friend didn't like it. She said it tasted like the cast iron pan. We sent back both the risotto and the rib-eye. The manager was nice enough to come by to apologize and offered to remake it for us. We declined. He gave us a butterscotch panna cota to try on the house. I took a bite- panna cota tasted fine but didn't like the butterscotch on top. The service was great- attentive and nice. The minute we drove up to the restaurant, I was intrigued. Being a true old boat house, the character if the building is beautiful! Once in and seated, we started with 2 amazing cocktails. By the menu, you could see that they have created some cocktails in which they are proud, and they should be, as they were awesome!! As for food, started with burrata, then did the spinach salad, and finished with the burger and a bowl. Each and every dish was fantastically well done! We were so impressed! After reading many articles and advertisements about this place we decided to go check it out. When we first got there we thought we were in the wrong spot because this place is kinda hidden among the industrial area of Costa Mesa. But as we walked up, we were greeted by super friendly and welcoming staff. The ambiance and atmosphere is very artistic and rustic with a hipster vibe. There was a small stage in the back where they have live music playing every night starting around 730. That night it was a jazz band trio playing and they were awesome. The food menu is short but everything on it was really good. The drinks menu consisted of specialty signature cocktails which were all amazing. And also a great selection of craft beers and wines. Although I am bummed about the patio being closed, I heard from the owner that they have a pop-up patio over the weekend they do. With that said, I am keeping this review at 5 stars. Here's why! Firstly, many of you don't know, but I am in a wheelchair, and wheelchair access can be a problem at times, so allow me to work on this point first. This place is accessible, and easily so. Very friendly to my needs and spacious enough not to have to ask people to move so you can get by! Now the real reason we are here, food and drink. They have new things on the menu and are always adding new things to the menu. Needless to say, their drink are amazing. Sazerac is the drink I love here. They had a new poke on the menu that I just had to try. Let me just say, wow! It's a meal first of all with lettuce, rice and guacamole in a bowl, but it is delicious. If you like poke, give it a try, tell me what you think. Our friend got as an entrée the swordfish in curry. Let's be honest, not the most popular fish for a few reason, but for me, it's not the best textured fish. However, I don't know what they did here, but this dish was perfectly spiced and the texture was perfect. It was so simple too. Look at the pictures! My wife and I got the duck breast. Their most popular thing on the menu is a skirt steak, but duck breast is just not something you see everyday, and we love duck. So obviously, they did a great job. Because I wanted more! The breast was done medium rare, with spiced kale and also fried duck skins. The combo of this together was not something I had experienced before. Just cool. Very awesome flavored. Then of course we got dessert. The bread pudding. With a stump town cold brewed coffee. I love sweets and coffee. And that is the best way to end the night! I think the food is good but it's ridiculously over-priced w/ extremely small portions. Having said that, I can't see myself coming back here as I dropped about $80 w/ dinner for 2 and ended up getting a burger afterward. PROS: -Ambiance is nice -Full bar, drinks are solid. -Food is pretty good CONS: -Extremely expensive. Each entrée runs about $20-$25 a person. -Portions are ridiculously small. I left hungry and ended up getting a burger afterward. -Menu is not clear. No one in the party knew how the food is served. IE: served a la carte, on a sandwich bun, on salad, (?). We were surprised w/ every order that came out. Hangar Steak - $24 - 3.5/5 slightly above average -Served w/ chimichurri. The steak is enjoyable. Tiger Prawns - $20 - 3/5 average -I was a bit surprised the tiger prawns were served on a bed of salad. Having said that, the tiger prawns tasted okay. It wasn't anything memorable. 6 tiger prawns total. Ahi - $16 - 3/5 average -I was also surprised the ahi was served a la carte. I was expecting the ahi to be served on a sandwich bun or something (similar to the pictures I've seen on yelp). It tasted okay, but again, wasn't that memorable. Served w/ cole slaw on the side. Pork Shoulder - $19 - 4/5 above average -Pretty solid pork shoulder. Again, we weren't sure how this was going to come out but it's served a la carte. Enjoyable. Went here for a lunch meeting and this place was great. Parking is kind of hard to find at first but it has a great patio area. Some type of bean/hummus dip was served with 3 large crispy flauta chips as a complimentary appetizer. I got the gilled salmon kale salad per the server's recommendation -- amazing. They played this questionnaire game, which was out of the norm, but I appreciated it because It felt warm and cozy, as if this restaurant was run by a family. Cleanliness: I might have been too distracted by the uniqueness of this place that I didn't pay much attention to the cutlery or how clean the menu is. But the menu was one page and it was simple, which I love. Music: They had a live band. It wasn't too loud or too quiet. I remember them playing a variety of old and new music. Food: AMAZING. They had this appetizer, which was their own version of chips and salsa but the sauce was killer. Let me set the stage here... it's Valentines Day, which happens to be a Friday night, and since I am not an idiot, I make a reservation because it's the busiest dinner night of the year. Our reservation was for 6 people at 7:45 PM, and we show up at 7:40 PM to check in. They are obviously very, very busy but we check in with the hostess and hang out for a few minutes... which turns into 30 minutes, which turns into an HOUR, which is very confusing to wait an hour for a table you have a reservation for, right? Anyway, we finally get sat at 9:00 PM and are greeted 15 minutes later by someone who quickly tells us that she is not our server but she is going to help us out and bring us water. 15 minutes later we get water in plastic cups which really is not a huge deal but since we are all so thirsty and so sober, we take the opportunity to order our drinks when the water comes out. Begrudgingly, the person takes our order and 10 minutes later we have drinks. After that, we are visited by the manager or someone in charge who is SO SORRY we have been waiting and is going to send us some appetizers as a peace offering. 10 minutes later we have french fries. I love me some fries but really even I know that they aren't an appetizer, like, can I get some burrata or the chicken Katsu or anything else? While we're devouring our fries, someone else keeps dropping off drinks for the table which really seemed like another peace offering because A) they weren't the drinks we ordered and B) they just kept coming and no one even asked for them. Finally, we order our entrees that end up coming out 50 minutes later. At this point, we have been there for almost 3 hours and the worst part is that since it was Valentines Day, we knew we wouldn't be able to get into any other restaurants - it's as if we were hostages. When the bill finally comes out our jaws hit the floor. Not only were we only discounted 15% for our 'inconvenience' but we were charged for all the drinks we didn't order and the appetizers. I hate to be that person but all we wanted was to be fed and watered... Boathouse, you had ONE JOB!!! This place is tucked away where you would never know where it was unless you got invited there by friends. We had a group of 30+ and it was really fun! The atmosphere is great and super spacious. Pretty hipster and has a small bar area that accounts for how slow the service can be. Our server was also about 15 years old and didn't know what she was doing and kept getting our orders wrong or forgetting to put in the ticket. Let's see here, what is there not to like about this place? Pretty much nothing. The Boathouse Collective is a great place to get drinks and hang out, they have live music all the time and the cocktails are really really good. They also have a pretty good selection of beer. If you would like some food, this is the place for it. I have not tried the whole menu, but I am fairly confident in saying they have a great menu. I will give you some of my tops, but you don't have to take my suggestions, explore the menu. Let's start with appetizers, the Poke Bowl is great, but a little hard to share. The Chicken Katsu is dynamite for sure, and the Burrata is nice as well (easiest to share, and good portion). All the mains are good, my favorites is the Filet Medallons, but honestly, every time I eat here I end up ordering sides and appetizers. Their sides and appetizers are very healthy portions, if you aren't sharing be careful how much you order unless you want lots of leftovers. All the sides are fantastic, but do not leave the Boathouse without trying their Yakimo!! It is a sweet potato delight! My favorite item on the menu. My only complaint about this place is space. The food is absolutely wonderful and is upscale dinning worthy, but the atmosphere (which is great) is very relaxed and crowded. Planned an event here for a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend and everything turned out wonderfully. The staff (Allie, Clay, Jade in particular) were so accommodating and helpful! The service was spectacular. They made our lives and the entire planning process so much easier with their fast communication, positive attitude, and creativity. From assisting with 27 individual menu orders, to getting our drink orders for the night; I was floored by the level of detail and service we received. We reserved the patio for 27 people and the space was gorgeous! Tables were all set up and there enough heat lamps to keep everyone warm in about mid-50 degree weather. Came here for my birthday dinner. The decor is something like a refined surfer vibe and lots of shiplap. The host was less than attentive and ignored me even when I had a reservation. Got her attention after a few minutes of waiting with my party. I can understand that it was a Friday night and quite busy. We got seated by the stage, which ended up being pretty cool. The live band was pretty sweet with jazzy beats and some swaggy covers. I can dig dinner and a show! Drinks were good, but small. We got greyhounds and an old fashioned. The man who served them to us was super rude, but whatever. He may have been in a rush. Food was excellent. Jidori chicken is bombbb! The chicken was so moist and had an excellent side of veggies. My party ordered the Filet, Burger, and Curry. The steak was tender with a nice spicy side of pineapple habenero sauce. The burger was delicious and the side of fries was hefty and shareable. The curry was reportedly underwhelming. My friend had to ask for more curry, and the fish was just average. Overall food was 4/5. Desserts were wildly delicious. The Panna Cotta was light and tasty with caramel on top. Bread Pudding was also to dieeee for. Get both. They aren't too sweet, and are enough to share :) Would come again! Super cool place! Far from where I live but worth the drive. Really nice atmosphere. Went to see a friend's band play, and had dinner. Ordered the salmon which was delicious! Only complaint would be how hot it was in there, but the waitress was very diligent about getting us water and was super sweet. Will definitely be coming back when I have the chance! read more
