    The new Mazda 3!
    Jacob S.

First of all, I really hate car shopping ... Like, really really hard car shopping. Used vs new, a dozen brands with a thousand marketing terms, etc. Most dealers are awful, but Bob Baker Mazda was great. Relatively low stress, and extremely efficient. Fred was polite and got me in and out about as fast as I could hope for. Bonus points for offering me a free mask during COVID - I had forgotten mine in my old car but they took care of me. Obviously, dealing with the finance department is never fun. Make up your mind before going in if you want/don't want extended warranties, etc. I was a little disappointed that the way they described some of their packages was a tad misleading once you actually read the fine print, but I suppose they have to make money somewhere. Additionally, the rear window wasn't super foggy on the inside when I received it. It didn't occur to me until I got home or I would have made them fix it. The window is so cramped it took a good 15 minutes to clean it myself. They missed a couple spots on the inside as well, but these were easy enough for me to handle. When I went back to later to actually pick the car up, Fred took a few minute to show me around the new features and answer my questions which was nice. All in all I'm going to only take one star off. Substantially better than my Honda and Toyota experience, slightly better than Hyundai and Kia, and about on par with the dedicated Mazda dealers in SoCal.

Purchased a new Carbon Edition cx-5 from Fred, and wow; what and exceptional experience. I will now buy all my cars here with him. Thank you again for your professionalism and expertise. Allison Rosander

Had an appointment for regular maintenance. Oil change, filters, etc. Customer service changed from a few months ago, lots of new people, new procedures. You used to drive in for service and someone would greet you and take information from your car. Now you drive in, walk to service desk and it's confusing where to go, all sorts of people behind monitors and on the phone. You wait for someone to see your standing in front of someone's desk then finally will tell you to go elsewhere. After they took my info I asked where I could wait, they said the trailer you drove by is where you can wait. They did have someone to tell me to find a chair and sit & they had coffee and water. I do love that they video their recommendations and provide a list with prices, but normally too high than I can get elsewhere. Among a few things they recommended, tires were the priciest but they seemed to have similar pricing to what I found so I was going to say yes, but after researching the tires, found they were poor quality and could get better quality for same price. I was texted to go to service desk in 15 minutes and again, confusing on where to go, until someone sees you just standing someone will ask to help when they are finished with work they are doing. They used to wash your car after a maintenance service but they don't do that anymore. I prepaid for maintenance and have to come here, I have 1 more than I'll go somewhere closer and hopefully it's a better experience like it used to be at #BobBakerMazda in Carlsbad. I rated it a 3 because no one was rude so an extra star for that, plus the sales guy in the trailer was nice enough to show me empty chairs of where I could sit, that was nice, worth an extra star.

We just purchased a used car from Bob Baker Mazda, and we couldn't be happier. From the first interaction with somebody over the phone, test driving the car, through purchasing, right the way through to the service department, we were met with nothing but absolute professionalism and courtesy. Max was a pleasure to work with - And he made the process of buying a car quite enjoyable.

Thanks Fred and Bob Baker Mazda!

What a wonderful car buying experience!! A special thank you to Fred! My boyfriend and I are young and this is my first time buying a car. That being said, I was pretty nervous. Didn't know what to expect, didn't want to get overcharged or scammed, etc. All those worries went away when we met Fred. He made the process so easy and was so kind! We had a lot of questions and he answered them all honestly and in-depth. When it was time to actually buy the car, once again I was so nervous but he walked us through it and was so very helpful. Thank you so so so much Fred, because of you we got our dream car :) So Fred was wonderful, but the Bob Baker dealership as a whole was also great. We got AMAZING deals and financing on our brand new car and no trickery was involved at all. I say that because when I was researching car buying, I came across lots of videos and articles on how to spot fake/unnecessary fees and charges that dealerships sometimes tack onto the car bill. I went in ready to spot those charges and negotiate them out of the contract but they were nowhere to be found! Overall I am so happy with my experience and LOVE LOVE LOVE my CX-30

Just bought my second Mazda from Bob Baker (first time-9 years ago:). Once again, I had a very pleasant car buying experience. Clisley was extremely helpful and I didn't feel any pressure to buy from him. The staff in finance department were equally helpful. Just an FYI: they only accept up to $5000 on credit card. Best of all, I got a new car that I LOVE. Watch out! I've got Turbo now;) Zoom Zoom!

I reached out to Toyota Carlsbad as their website showed they had a 2026 RAV4 FWD in stock. Hamid, the salesperson, reached back out to me to let me know that they did not have that specific configuration in stock, but had an open reservation that was in transit. He let me know I could put a refundable deposit to reserve it. I decided to proceed with that and it was very easy with their reservation system. Hamid kept me up to date on the status of the vehicle. When it arrived, my wife and I scheduled a time to do a test drive. When we got to the dealership, it was out and ready for us. Hamid showed the car and its features to us. My wife did the test drive as I needed to watch our baby. After the test drive, Hamid gave us a quote for the car and some options. The quote was very competitive and he did not try to pressure us into any add-ons. We wanted to think about it for a day as we were test driving other cars, which Hamid was amenable to. My wife and I talked it over and were having a hard time picking which car we liked. Since I did not get a chance to test drive the RAV4 myself, I reached back out to Hamid the next day and asked if he was okay letting me come back to test drive myself. He was fine with that and I came back up to test drive. Hamid let me take my time and really let me feel out the RAV4. After driving it, I decided that it wasn't a fit for us. I let Hamid know. He had no issues with that and was extremely professional. Overall was very happy with my experience. Hamid was straightforward, honest, communicative, and overall great to work with. If we want to look at a Toyota in the future, I will definitely reach out to Hamid and Toyota Carlsbad.

One word. Tanner…read more(service advisor). He legit has changed my mind about Lexus. I've had horrible service over the years from Escondido and San Diego. I was going to get rid of my (paid off) car and get into a non Lexus lease because I was getting frustrated and annoyed with service advisors. The Carlsbad location is a further drive and the center seems older. But I can tell you it was WORTH IT because of Tanner. He was upfront, honest, and knowledgeable when I first spoke to him. I needed brake pads and possible new rotors. I just trusted him when he said to first pay for the brake diagnostic (I think it was like $59.95?) and they'll know exactly the issue to see exactly what needs to be done. The fee will go directly towards any service and it wasn't a loss as I knew for sure my brake pads were worn badly. The loaner department was also quick and efficient (I think the guy's name was David?). He got me their newer 2025 RX to the loaner and I totally understand why they give Lexus loaners as I emailed tanner to say hey wait don't do the service as I may just trade in the car (kinda half joking here). But I know which car I'll be getting in the next two years now. The brake service was PERFECT. I didn't need new rotors (yes!!) but was super close to it (as i expected). I also decided to get a full interior/exterior detail for the car (haven't had it since owning it so it was much needed). I am back today for the alignment (got the wheels at Costco few min away as their 4 tire special beat Lexus). Hopefully alignment went well but I wouldn't expect anything less at this point with Tanner and his team here. Thank you Carlsbad Lex!

He worked hard to return my calls even after hours as we were working through the paperwork, he answered my all of questions even if it involved asking others to confirm, helped me understand the vehicle, the process, and where to go when I needed help (even after the car purchase), and made me feel supported without being pushy. He even answered my partner's call when my partner needed to handle things given the short timeline and I had a lot going on. So I'm not a huge reviewer online, but want to save anyone who I can from making the same mistake…read morethat I did of buying a used car from AutoNation. Their employees outright lied several times and have cost me more time and effort than I could have imagined. We were in the market for a used Jeep Grand Cherokee and headed over to AutoNation CDJR Carlsbad, who had a few used models on the lot. When we pulled up, we were greeted by a sales rep, who showed us a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. We test drove the car, and nothing major jumped out at us, except for a check engine light. When I asked the sales rep, he told me that the service department will toggle the check engine light on to indicate that the car still has maintenance or cleaning in progress. Didn't think much of it, other than that it seems like it made sense to a degree. We told the rep that we were going to look at a few other options but would reach out in the next week or so. Flash forward to our second visit to AutoNation... Now that we were considering buying the Jeep, I did a more thorough check thru the vehicle, and test drove it a second time. This time, there was a weird pressure releasing sound when the AC compressor clutch engaged. I brought the issue up to the sales rep, who lied thru his teeth and said "every Cherokee and Durango makes that sound, trust me I own this same car." Our response was... "great, show me one other vehicle that makes that sound on this lot, and I'll drop it." After giving up on that approach (listened to several vehicles and no sound), I asked if we can evacuate the AC system and recharge... assuming that the low level was causing the refrigerant to pass as a gas where it should be liquid. The rep called the manager and a mechanic up from the service department, who made it their mission to make me feel dumb and like I didn't know what I'm talking about. After they assured me that I didn't know what I was talking about for the last time, I told them that we were going to walk, so they evacuated and recharged and what do you know... the sound went away. We thought this was a win, and decided to pull the trigger on the car. At this point the car goes down for the "Final wash" and the check engine light goes off. We purchase the car with a financing option in place, giving us 5 days to drop a check off for payment in full, and financing would be cancelled. We drive the car home and before we even make it home from the dealership, we get a check engine light. When I plugged my first scanner in (on the next key on cycle), I got no stored and no active codes, second scanner found a previously deleted camshaft position sensor stored code. The next day, we headed back to AutoNation to hopefully work out the check engine issue and to drop the $20k check off. When we got there, we were told that we HAD to hand over the check before service could look at the car... (I win the dumba** of the year award for handing that check over). We pay for the car and head down to the service center, assuming that since it was sold the day before, we would at least get a "Sorry this is happening, we'll get it worked out ASAP." Nope... Turns out that they wanted us to drop the check off so that this work could all be billed to the 3rd party insurance, instead of coming out of AutoNation's pocket. I fully believe that AutoNation knew that this car had lifter problems and needed a camshaft (at least) and lied to make the most profitable sale that they could. When I asked for a rental car of equal size, they told me that they would pay for the cheapest option, anything above that is on me to pay for. It's been a month of us having to pay out of pocket for part of the rental AND the manager of this location has received 4-6 messages from me with zero response. It gets better... I reached out to the sales rep, (since the service center doesn't talk to customers I guess) and left a message with all of the issues that we've been dealing with. He calls me back a while later from his personal phone (so he says) because he is afraid that the manager at his location is recording his calls and if he admits that they weren't completely honest, that he'll be retaliated against. Anyone from AutoNation corporate or the insurance company that has the phone plan which includes outgoing calls... I've been asking for an explanation for a month and radio silence, please find my info from the purchase of the white 2017 Grand Cheorkee from AutoNation CDJR Carlsbad in May 16, 2026... Shouldn't be too hard to find since you still have the car I paid for a month ago... -Kevin

Due to weather and their own process of working on cars in a queue, they haven't started. I told them to send me a ride share. I'm coming in to pick up my car. I never received a text or call with any information that wasn't first initiated by me the entire 20 days my vehicle was in service. I even made three attempts to reach the service manager Summer. One voicemail, one note to be handed directly to her and another call. No follow up! I haven't yet mentioned that I opened a case with GM beforehand. I was told by GM EV concierge they were unable to receive any update over the 20 days my vehicle was at PCC. Let that sink in GM couldn't reach anyone at their own authorized service center for 20 days. What an absolute embarrassment. I suggest you look elsewhere when in need of service or repair. The incompetence at PCC is rampant throughout all levels of the Service Center.

A friend referred me to Carpair. I liked working with Britt…read more My car sold within one day. Britt told me the price and I asked for a little higher price. She successfully negotiated for the price I wanted since my car was in high demand due to its' great gas mileage. Carpair is the only place I will go to buy or sell a car. An employee came to my home and did a diagnostic test and took photos of my car. This was so much better than trying to sell my car myself. Carpair paid for the Uber home after I dropped off my car at the car dealer. Thank you Britt!

Headline: Disappointing experience: No transparency and hidden fees…read more I had mixed feelings about CarPair. The start was great--the app is smooth, and I received a call immediately after putting in my info. I was helping my office sell some cars and thought this would be a faster way to get it done. However, the process quickly turned frustrating. I told the rep, Britt, that we already had a Carmax offer for $12,500 and didn't want to waste anyone's time or money if they couldn't beat it. She "danced around" the question but eventually insisted her experience and systems showed we'd get more. Two days later, the offer was the exact same amount I already had. Instead of being upfront, she pressured me to take the "lowball" deal. To make matters worse, I ended up with a $98.00 bill for a service that provided zero added value. They acted like I was the one wasting their time, despite them failing to meet the price they promised. I wouldn't recommend this to friends or family--you'll get the same price at Carmax with much less work and no surprise fees.

Mike Shaffer at Mercedes-Benz absolutely knocked it out of the park…read more From the moment I walked in, Mike made the entire experience feel effortless and genuinely personal. You know how most car service visits can feel rushed or transactional? This was the complete opposite. Mike was welcoming, professional, and -- most importantly -- attentive. He took the time to actually listen to what I needed, asked the right questions, and made sure I felt comfortable and informed before anything happened with my car. What stood out most is the extra care he put into every step. He didn't treat my vehicle like "just another appointment." He treated it like it mattered -- and he treated me the same way. He explained things clearly, kept me updated, and made sure nothing slipped through the cracks. It's rare to find someone who combines knowledge, efficiency, and real customer service the way he does. On top of that, Mike has a calm, confident way of handling everything that instantly builds trust. I felt taken care of the entire time. No pressure, no confusion, no runaround -- just honest communication and top-tier service. It genuinely made my day to feel that level of respect and attention, and it's the kind of experience that makes you want to come back and also tell other people to ask for him specifically. If you're going to Mercedes-Benz and you want someone who will go above and beyond, make you feel special, and take excellent care of you and your car, ask for Mike Shaffer. He's awesome, and he's exactly the kind of person you hope you'll get when you walk into a dealership/service department. Highly recommended.
