Compared to other beach restaurants, their prices are within the norm. The accoustics are wonderful, no matter how busy, there is never a need to shout to be heard. My and my boyfriend was walking around and decided to try the food in this restaurant. We were seated right away and the atmosphere in the restaurant is amazing. The piano music is so relaxing. We have ordered mussels and escargot for an appetizer. Both portions were delicious and huge. We were so full and maybe not so hungry so we didn't have place for a main course but we ordered desert chocolate brownies with hot fudge and ice cream- definitely best dessert you can ever get. Our server Jose was so pleasant, attentive and friendly. He made our dinner even better and probably we haven't received such a good service in a long time. Our Florida friends took us to the Beachcomber. Their families have come here to celebrate special occasions over the years. It is fine dining. We were seated promptly by our waiter Timothy. We ordered drinks and waters. When our drinks came, he also brought a relish tray and warm assorted breads in a basket. Such a nice touch! We all ordered side salads and different seafood entrees of grouper and shrimp with baked potatoes. The seafood can be prepared various ways. I was concerned the bronzed style might be too spicy for me. He explained that they lightly season, and it is not spicy. We also ordered key lime pies with blueberry sauce and coffee. It's been many years since I've dined at Bob Heilman's Beachcomer restaurant yet the same high quality and consistency in food preparation continues. I applaud them. My guest chose their signature fried chicken entree with mashed potatoes and gravy and was not disappointed! It takes a little longer to prepare this dish. I also greatly enjoyed my choice of sauteed soft shell crabs over toast with fresh green beans.Perfect. The mixed salad with homemade blue cheese dressing is delicious accompanied with Heilman's mainstay relish tray which is a longtime tradition and a very pleasant treat. We arrived before six o'clock on a Sunday night and as we were finishing our meal an excellent pianist began to play standards which is quite enjoyable and capped the night. This is one of the best fine dining restaurants not only on Clearwater Beach but throughout Tampa Bay. Service was first class, prompt when needed. Valet parking in the rear of building is available. Also noteworthy is a smaller version of Heilman's adjacent to the parking lot which provides very intimate atmosphere or more secluded dining or dining for a smaller setting. The second time I've had dinner here. Higher end, white table cloth dining in a beach area. Attire was a mix of Beach casual ... NOT swim suit attire. Service was excellent. Waiter was right there for our drink order. Bread basket was great with four options of toppings. Partner wanted to go light and chose to have a full bowl of the chowder. Was very happy with her choice. I selected the Maryland Crab Cakes. The salad wedge could have been a whole meal. The cakes were very good ... could have been a little more crab in the cake. We've been here once before. It was New Years Eve several years ago. We had reservations and had to wait well over an hour past our reservation time. I know all bets are off when it comes to New Years, but it left a bad impression on us so it took us some time to revisit the Beachcomber. On this visit we were seated right away, although we waited about 15 minutes before we finally met our waiter. By the time he arrived we had already decided what we wanted, so we not only gave him our drink order, but also our complete dinner order. Our waiter dropped off their signature relish tray consisting of apple butter, cottage cheese with a few chives sprinkled on top, beets with horseradish ( surprisingly good) , and a corn relish. All in all, not bad. Next came a bread basket with flour rolls, banana date bread and some little chocolate muffins, again not bad. For our appetizer we ordered clams casino. Big disappointment, although flavorful the clams were over cooked and rubbery. My Bride ordered Cape Cod Scallops lightly dusted with home made Tatar sauce on the side, baked potato, and a small Caesar salad which she enjoyed. My order was Black Grouper, backed potato, and a lettuce wedge with blue cheese. All were fine. The grouper was blackened. The portion size for the grouper was... well, small. For $30.00 I expected a larger piece. For desert we shared a Creme Brûlée, which was very good. The overall ambiance of The Beachcomber was very 50's, there was a nice piano player. The couch that we sat on was old and very uncomfortable. The value of this restaurant is sub par in my mind. Total bill $86.00 w/o tip or alcohol. Keeping in mind that I had to flag down our waiter three separate times for drink refills. He probably would have been more attentive if we were drinking alcohol, I'm sure. read more

We had reservations for Thanksgiving. It was extremely crowded. We had to wait more than an hour later to be seated. My friend got a martini from the bar and it wasn't a full pour. The food was ok. Made Thanksgiving reservations and ended up having to leave after waiting an hour and being told it would be another thirty minutes. They were unapologetic and really seemed to care less. It's understandable to be under stress and we appreciate anyone who works in the service industry on a holiday but there was just a complete lack of customer service. Service, cuisine and atmosphere from the last century. Each course of the meal took close to 30 minutes. Total time before our dinner arrived was two hours. Baffling since the place was half empty. Very little flexibility on the menu, which seemed to date to the late 50's. No steak on the kids menu for a place that takes pride in their steaks. A waiter bumped my wife's chair so often I started to wonder if it was deliberate. Waiter was generally nice but I think we all figured out early on that this wasn't gonna work out great, so he made himself pretty scarce. I have been a loyal customer for more than 30 years and loved the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately it's no longer that place. I ordered the veal chop ($42) and received a chop that had maybe 9 bites as it was all fat and bone. The green beans were so undercooked, they were difficult to cut. I asked to speak to the manager and a person who identified himself as Bobby Heilman came over. I indicated that he should be embarrassed to have served my dinner. He was arrogant and wanted to argue with me about my opinion of his veal chop. He obviously doesn't believe that the customer is always right. We came here after a wedding party of 16 we reserved the whole room by the bar we had 2 waitresses who was on point the whole time the corn n beet n apple butter was ok not really my kind of thing I ordered the prime rib medium rare it came out well done also ordered the shrimp cocktail now we're talking some of the biggest shrimp I've ever seen let alone eat also had the Alaskan king crab legs with drawn butter which is hot under a lil candle amazing the dinner salad was very good needless to say sounds like a lot of food witch it was overall good times in here kinda pricey read more

As a family tradition we always met at Beachcomber for dinner whenever we visit the Clearwater area We made reservations for 16 on April 5 for dinner on April 27. We had to wait 40 mins for a table, we were split up into 3 tables, service was awful, one of our family members did not get his meal, we waited 2 hours for dinner. All of our meal orders were wrong. Tried this place for Mother's Day and although the menu was quite scaled back , it did not disappoint! EVERYTHING i tried was well seasoned and on point. I tried the clam casino ( delicious!) escargot en casserole ( de best I've ever had ) & bronzed seafood platter ( highly recommend) . The service , the ambience and the live piano makes for a nice romantic evening. Great classic seafood and steak restaurant. I ate at the bar and the service and food were great. I had a shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad and a filet with a bearnaise sauce on the side) with asparagus and hollandaise sauce. All were delicious. One of my new favorite restaurants! We had such a wonderful experience. As we walked around the strip we stumbled upon this gem, we were dressed very causal and decided to go to the bar and check things out. We ordered the clams casino and some martinis. The clam were spectacular... sizzling perfection!! The martinis were delicious and frosty. Then we order clam chowder, it was velvety smooth with big pieces of tender clams. For our entrees we ordered the grouper and filet. The salads were interesting but refreshing. The grouper was perfectly bronzed and came dripping with herbed butter and a quinelle of perfect mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the filet which was perfectly cooked. When we heard the dessert options we splurged for the baked Alaska... simply because you never find that on any menu like ever! It was ridiculously scrumptious and delectable. It was a wonderful experience, the service was absolutely perfect and the ambiance -between the soft lighting, clam style banquets and live piano player - was dream like and I can't wait to come back!!!! read more

For this place there should be an option to leave negative stars. I'm as laid back a person as you will ever meet. On a short vacation for a few days in sun we made a reservation at this restaurant. We get there and are seated. The right off the bat the waiter is listing off everything they are out of which is fine. We order a bottle of wine and one of the appetizers they have in stock. Then we place our entree orders. About 40 minutes later the waiter returns to tell us they are out of three of the four entrees we ordered. Someone asked to speak to the manager who comes out and the first words out of his mouth are 'I was told I have to come on here to tell you we are out of your entrees'. No, I'm sorry, we messed up or I'm embarrassed this happen. I asked, how this could happen and was told they don't know they are out of something until it is ordered. I state we ordered it 40 minutes ago and he repeats they don't know until it is ordered. Manager is incompetent, the owner is obviously an absentee owner since you would never leave someone like that in charge of your business. If this manager worked for me he would be looking for new employment. If you want to see how not to manage a restaurant please go here, this is just one review so please read others and play close attention to all the elite member review which I'm not one and if you are in the area do yourself a favor and go to Clear Sky across the street, You will spend about 1/3 the money, the food is awesome and the staff is competent. We have been coming to this establishment for years. Tonight's experience was so disappointing. It started from the minute we walked in the door. The hostess who I later found out is the owner. Could not have been anymore rude. Likely due to us having a baby with us. No changing table in bathroom. So definitely not kid friendly. I also called weeks prior to ask a question about our reservation and the owner/host was rude then as well. I almost cancelled reservation then. We were there to celebrate my Fathers 80th Birthday with 10 people in our party. The waiter was good, however the food quality has gone down leaves a lot to be desired. To be honest the rude welcome set the stage for rest of the night. hate that we dropped the amount of money that we did with the experience that we had. I will not be going to back to this restaurant. I wish I would have gone with my gut and cancelled the reservation. read more
