1 Star - Service, service, service I placed an order for pizza (specifically asking for no fresh basil) and decided to sit inside while I waited. The person who took my order made the pizza, placed it in the warmer, and put the salad in the refrigerator--while I was still sitting there waiting. No one bothered to call my name or let me know my order was ready. Only when it was close to closing time did the staff finally ask, "Hey, what are you waiting for?" I told them I was waiting for my order, and they casually handed it over pizza that had been sitting in the warmer for 15+ minutes and a salad pulled from the crisper. When I finally got back to my hotel, I opened the box to find basil all over the pizza, even though I had specifically requested none. Their only solution was to remake it and wait another half an hour for it. No, I'm good. Completely unacceptable. Poor communication, inattentive service, and careless disregard for my order. Happened upon this restaurant after several failed attempts to eat in the area. One restaurant was too hot. Another restaurant had a 45 minute to an hour wait, with no drinks. Therefore we left that establishment and ventured over to Harper Street. Easy seating at Bob's. Our drinks and water came to the table fast which was good because it was a very hot day. Every day they have slices from 11am to 4pm. This worked out great since our party could not decide on a pizza. I really wanted to try the Chicken Sausage pizza. For pizza I got the pepperoni slice and my friends got beer battered cheese curds and the fried pickles. Both appetizers were great. Really appreciated the thinly sliced pickles. The waitress was very nice and the Manger was too. Learned that the pizza dough is made with beer versus water. All in all a good experience. For several years, Bob's has been my son's favorite restaurant in the world, but there have been a couple of big changes to the menu and the setup here that warrant a re-review. One big change is that the deep fryer is gone. That means french fries and fried cheese curds are no longer on the menu. That's good news for me and my lack of willpower, but hurts Bob's otherwise celestial status among the children in my household, who were blown away by the idea of being able to get french fries and pizza at the same restaurant. On the other hand, a nicer Italian salad, and maybe even some soups, have joined the menu, giving the adults some slightly better non-pizza alternatives. You still can't get, say, a grilled chicken breast on top of that salad, but hope springs eternal. The other big change is that most of the table service is gone. Now you order at the counter, get your own water, silverware, and plates from a self-serve station, and wait for them to bring your food to the table. This is a HUGE improvement, because the speed and attention of the previous table service was pretty bad. I'm very excited to be able to get a glass of water and a table knife whenever I want. My son remains a big fan of the pizza (so long as it is ordered with no seasonings). read more

I've tried a ton of pizza places in Chicago and the suburbs and this place is the best. I don't know what they do to season their pizza, but their cheese has more flavor than any cheese I've ever had. There is a zing to it... a zesty-ness I can't get enough of. I am truly obsessed. I placed this order for the UChicago Fossil Lab today (usually we get Giordano's but it was closed for some reason, so someone in the group recommended Bob's), and we are planning to order from Bob's for now on! I ordered over the phone, and the guy who took my order (I think his name is Zach) was super sweet and gave great advice on the number of pizzas and how it's sliced etc. I picked the pizza up, and met the person who took my order, and he had excellent customer service. I don't know what your name is sir, but that you for being so kind. Inside there are tables and booths and a bar. Outside, the road to drive up to the restaurant was blocked, so I parked down the street. I'm not sure if there is dedicated parking, but I will find out next time. And, although my order wasn't at the right time for it, they have happy hour M-F from 16:00-17:00 where you order one pizza get the second free. You can't beat that! I tried to contact a corporate or main office for Bob's with no luck. There is no such thing on the website. So instead I share the following with possible customers of the Bob's in Hyde Park: Hello, I would like someone to contact me about my experience this afternoon in the Hyde Park store with the manager, Tyrisa T. Please see photo below of my lukewarm mushroom pizza, taken out, with few actual mushrooms. The service over the phone was questionable, as was the service in the store when I pointed out that if this were a pepperoni pizza that no one would actually take it (she offered not to make the pizza again but to refund my money because she stated that she'd had nothing but problems from me since taking my order???) Let me start by saying that the service there is cold probably because the server is cold because the restaurant is literally cold. There is no heat. The atmosphere looks good, but feels eerie. The staff has literally zero personality zero knowledge of what's going on and does zero work and they have the nerve to have the restaurant set up where you give a tip first then you realize that you have to get your own water your own silverware it's like you almost have to get up and serve yourself your own food. Then speaking of the food not very good to my liking pizza sauce is very watered down. They claimed to serve only one size pizza, but we dined in during the buy one get one free. I ordered one mushroom pizza and one pepperoni pizza, and my pepperoni pizza was so much larger than my mushroom pizza. I'm like if this is 16 inches then this has to be like 14 so why are you charging me the same price and when you say something to them about this it's like it's nothing oh well. So far, I've tried the pepperoni pizza and the mushroom pizza and both were delicious. I tried the lavender fizz since I enjoy vodka, it sounded like a great choice. It's made with lavender syrup,lemon juice, soda water and fresh basil. It's so pretty and refreshing! The restaurant is decorated so nicely and the staff ja very friendly. You can get a slice of pizza from 11am to 4 pm daily. They offer happy hour Monday through Thursday from 4-5 pm where if you buy one pizza you get one free. What an awesome deal!!! NO FUN!!!! Bob's is now self-serve, which means we had to place our order with the cashier who was rude and would not volunteer any of the details concerning the changes. The woman behind the bar (with no drinks) had to explain everything. We were all frustrate. The most memorable thing about it was the meal that accumulated in the box. Sausage: the worst part of the pizza was the processed chicken sausage that looked more like cut up hot dogs. YUK! 3/16/2023--Just ok is the only thing I can come up with. I tried the chicken sausage pizza. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the meat. The price point was questionable, given the aforementioned, and there's only one topping. Our server was really nice, which was honestly the best part. They appeared to be short staffed given the fact the tables weren't clean. The grace in me wants to say I'd try this place again, but given the plethora of dining options in this area, I can't say that I would. There's metered parking and a parking lot nearby. The pizza here is delicious- my personal favorite is the chicken sausage pizza, which comes with a drizzle of honey on it, a unique topping that hits the spot. I will say we went on a Thursday at about 1:30. No students around. The pizza was AMAZING. It was more like Neapolitan. The people were nice, the place was empty except for my friend and I who ate our slices in the restaurant. We paid, chose our seats and the slices were brought out to us. Here's my issue, the pizza slices were the greasy ones I think I've ever had. There was literally a layer of grease on top of the cheese pizza slices. I used so many of the paper towels to dab grease off. My friend initially picked up her slice and the grease poured down she had to sit it back down because it was dripping all over her hands and the table. After sopping up and pressing grease out it was a fairly ok taste, nothing special. The globs of grease was a turn off for me though. She also got a slice of pickle pizza which she didn't eat there but we looked at it, it was a bit greasy but not as much as the slices we ate in. I was visiting in Hyde Park and went to Bob's Pizza with a local who had never been there. We had the chicken sausage pizza. It came out fast, fresh and hot. It was delicious. The crust was perfect. The toppings were yummy. The chicken sausage really surprised me how tasty it was, the fire roasted tomatoes, two types of cheese, you couldn't go wrong with this one. Finally tried out Bob's Pizza and it was great! It reminded me of NY pizza but with a springer crust. We had the pepperoni pizza and pesto pizza. Both were great and we will have plenty of leftovers. We were glad we ate in - the service was excellent and the atmosphere was super fun for a Saturday night. While the pizza cooked we had fries - and played a quick game of cards at the table. This review is based on comparing the other local pizza joints in the area. Beggars pan is very unique. Jets is also unique because it's a different type of pan pizza (Detroit style). Italian Fiesta in my opinion is real Chicago pizza, very thin sliced. All 3 sell slices, all 3 will give you a better bang for your money.
