We went today to buy a new car, We meet sales person BARKEV, he's unprofessional sales person I ever seen in my life, That's the first time someone quote for you the price of the car without take you to his office and calculate you down payment and check your credit score and ask you for how many months you want to finance, The price on the car showing $36K, he's telling me your price will be $46K because we have low inventory, we are in September 2020 and I'm looking the same year, some dealers has 2021 already in the stock and they are trying to clean 2020 and this guy want to increase the price $10K because of low inventory. The service department advisor I dealt with did some shady things to try his best to create maximum financial pain for my Son whose car stalled and was towed in after speaking with the advisor. This advisor wanted to charge $575 to diagnose an issue they already had the answer to and decided to withhold this info from me so they could keep their shady sham scam alive in the hopes of getting us to pay some astronomical amount of money . Horrible ! LETS RECAP what happened. TOYOTA PRIUS Stalls .. warning light says : Check Hybrid System. Talk to Service Advisor .. Explain situation .. He advises to tow car in since there is an open recall on this vehicle and a campaign to replace the inverter which has a known problem. Zero Charge for these items so I'm optimistic. Tow car to Bob Smith - Leave car thinking they will do the recall item for sure. Called a day later- advisor states he does not know what the problem is and says we need to pay $575 to continue the diagnosis. ( continue reading below - this is a total LIE) I say that's ridiculous and need to know a best and worse case scenario since this is my sons car, and he can't afford to put thousands of dollars into this vehicle. The service advisor floats 3 different options from about $1600 all the way up to over $7000 plus .... Honestly none of these are good options for a young kid trying to support himself. I tell the advisor I need to talk this over with my son and get back to him on the next business day . PLEASE pay attention to what I'm about to say here ... When I go to the dealer to discuss this with the service advisor I'm given the range of possible issues again .. most of these options are expensive and not acceptable. I tell the advisor I'm going to tow the car out of the dealer and he got a little weird. He acted as if he saw his golden goose flying away and immediately went into damage control mode which I thought was weird. Here is where it all starts to make sense. The advisor wanted us to keep the car there so they could string us along and continue to pay the high diagnosis fees and hopefully get some big price repair work done totaling thousands of dollars, even though he already knew the diagnosis.... Ready for the kicker? ... Wanna know why the car stalled ?????? BECAUSE IT RAN OUT OF GAS !!! THE CAR RAN OUT OF GAS ! Simple diagnosis.. No Gas Why did the service advisor keep this a secret and pretend he didn't know anything ?? The Advisor and Mechanic knew it had no gas in the car .. they put gas in the vehicle and the car turned on and ran .... the bad part, which is the shady part is THEY NEVR RELAYED THIS INFO TO ME . EVEN AFTER I ASKED THEM WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS WRONG THEY CONTINUED THE SHADY SHAM AND KEPT ASKING FOR MONEY TO CONTINUE DIAGNOSIS. REALLY ?? THIS DEALER AND ADVISOR HID THIS INFO IN THE HOPES OF RUNNING UP THE SERVICE BILL ON A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASILY FIXED. When I brought this to the attention of the SERVICE MGR ERIC he was no help at all. He actually made the situation worse which leads me to believe he's aware of these types of practices at Bob Smith Service. He was horrible to deal with and in my opinion didn't do his job. I would think he's there to help resolve issues when customers have complaints, but all he did was ignore what was being said. The shop foreman was a million times better in communicating and actually tried to help resolve or at least explain things. NOW BACK TO THE SHADY SERVICE ADVISOR ... Once the service advisor was caught he started to scramble trying to do damage control. He actually told the mechanic that " we need to make sure our paperwork matches" so everyone is on the same page. He covered his butt by altering and rewriting the diagnosis on the closing paperwork so it looked like he did his job. PSS.. HE DID SOME REALLY SHADY STUFF BY WITHHOLDING INFO TO TRY AND MAKE MORE MONEY. You would think this would happen at a small auto shop, not a big TOYOTA dealer. They had the nerve to charge me $175 for a diagnosis. REALLY $175 to LIE TO CUSTOMERS ABOUT WHAT IS WRONG. There are so many other things that were done but the moral of the story is BEWARE, cause if this happened to me the very first time I stepped foot in this dealership, I'm sure they are running up the service bills on thousands of other unsuspecting customers. I should have never been charged for this horrible experience. I explained this to ERIC SERVICE MGR and of course he did nothing but that figures since he's well aware of these deceptive underhanded business practices at BOB SMITH TOYOTA. Service department is a scam. My elderly father made an appointment for a recall on his battery and was helped by a man named Greg Bakalyan. Greg proceeded to try and sell him on $2K worth of repairs. Even though my father declined, they still were able to use their slimy sales tactics and take advantage of a senior citizen and charge him for a service he did not request. My recommendation? I have been taking my Prius here for years and the service was good up until this last time I took it to them for the 80k mile maintenance service. They did not check or top off any of the fluids even though their service report says everything was checked and good. A few days later i opened up the hood and saw that the brake fluid was less than half way btwn the "Max" and "Min", the hybrid coolant was at the "Low", the engine coolant was about an inch below the "Low" and there was no wiper fluid. When I brought it back, they told me that the brake fluid drops due to brake wear and should not be topped off which somewhat sounds reasonable. But after returning the car again, they ended up topping off the brake and hybrid coolant, and filling the wiper fluid; however the engine coolant level was still below the "Low" mark. When i pointed it out, they said that ok, it will expand and contract with the temperature. When I insisted that it was not ok, they went to the customer lounge, got a cup of water and filled it. This is not the type of service i would have expected from a dealer and will not be returning. read more

The day after Thanksgiving I purchased a 2024 Tundra SR5 from Bob Smith Toyota. This was the third vehicle I purchased from this dealership. My previous two Tundra's were brand new 2007 and 2014 models. I considered several other brands this time but arrived to the conclusion that buying another Toyota would be the best decision. I had 133,000 miles on my current 2014 Tundra. I rely on it to travel to multiple work locations daily. The one feature that stands out over the past 10 years is that it has NEVER failed to start excluding the one time when it needed a new battery. My 2007 Tundra was equally reliable. I have been very consistent with the maintenance of my vehicles, and that's all these trucks have required. This was the major factor in my decision to buy another one, the dependability of owning a quality vehicle. For me, this was unequivocal proof that Toyota products reflect their most discussed traits: RELIABILITY and LONGEVITY! Since 2007 Brett Nolan, the general sales manager has been there for every Tundra purchase I have made. He's considerate, helpful and I appreciate him for the support he and his staff have provided me. The staff are equally professional, Haik- sales manager, Todd- finance, Jaime and Erich in the service dept. They have advised and supported me all these years and have gone the extra mile to be helpful by being straightforward and honest with me. I would like to emphasize there has never been any element of pressure asserted by any of these gentlemen, they simply provided me with options and let me make my decision. TLDR: -Inconsistent pricing between website and in-person check-in -Stated services performed was falsified -I suspect noncompliance with California Air Resources Board Tire Pressure Regulation -Breakdown of customer trust Details: I have had my vehicle serviced at Bob Smith Toyota over the past 14 months, for 5 maintenance visits from 40k to 60k miles. I initially chose Bob Smith since they were among the *least-worst* rated Toyota service centers...let's face it, they're all poorly-rated but the consumer is the only one that loses. After my third maintenance visit, I started having doubts about them. The chronological history of my five rear brake lining readings in millimeters was: 4-6-3(so then I paid them to replace the brake lining)-7-6. It struck me us unusual that the first three readings were 4-6-3 mm...those are very large changes each visit, and the changes were not consistently toward thinner readings. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt. For my most recent visit today, I made an online reservation for 60k service, and the website price stated $144.80 for factory-required maintenance. One of the items that was part of this maintenance was "Replace cabin air filter (except solar power ventilation system)". I don't have solar power ventilation in my car, so they are stating they would replace my cabin air filter as part of the $144.80 package. I wanted an easy way to test them and see if they are really doing what they say they would, so I removed my cabin air filter before bringing my car in. When I checked-in, I was quoted a price of ~$550 for the factory-required 60k service. I made the consultant go through the website with me to show him that the website states this package is $144.80. He applied a "coupon" that brought the price down to $144.80, but I was actually charged $144.90 (no biggie, I'm not going to flip out over 10 cents from what was probably a typo). When I received my car back, the first thing I did was pop open the glove compartment and check to see if there was a cabin air filter. There was none. I pointed this out to the consultant, and he initially said that it would cost an extra ~$75 for a cabin air filter because I didn't choose the $550 package (what?). I said no, replacing that filter is part of the factory-required maintenance that was listed for $144.80. So he got a tech to put in the cabin air filter. At this point I also told him that I think his techs are not checking the tire pressures. During a previous visit (my 4th visit at 55k), my tire pressures were stated as 35 psi for fronts and 33 psi for rears. A week later my tire pressure warning light came on and my own pressure readings came in at 30-32 psi for the tires. It's no biggie for me since I check my pressures and inflate them when I see the tires bulge a bit. However, if my suspicion is correct that they are not checking and inflating tires, then they would be in noncompliance with the state's California Air Resources Board Tire Pressure Regulation (https://www.arb.ca.gov/regact/2009/tirepres09/tirefinalreg.pdf). Finally, I told them that I won't be returning to this service center again. My trust in them is gone. They did not demonstrate that they performed services that you pay for. If even the cabin air filter was not replaced, how do I know that the more important/costly/labor-intensive services were even performed? I have no idea if the oil was actually changed, if the engine air filter was actually changed, or if they actually inspected the transmission as part of this factory-required maintenance. I was not offered a refund either, so I can only hope that they performed the other services and my vehicle is safe to operate. I hope that this review helps others in their consideration of Bob Smith Toyota for servicing their cars. At best, you are being stolen from. At worst, your safety is at risk. Unfortunately the same will probably happen to me at the next service center I choose. read more

Came by to pick up my order. I stood in front of the parts dept. agent's desk for approximately 15 min. He didn't acknowledge my presence maybe because he was with a customer. The agent left the desk to pickup a part for the customer infront of me. He came back to the desk. Completed the transaction, the customer before me left. I went to the Parts Dept. to buy new wiper blades for my Prius. The man at the counter not only sold me blades, but put them on for free! Thanks so much! When negotiating for this car in 2012, I would have gladly purchased from Bob Smith since they are in my neighborhood. Unfortunately they were not flexible with the pricing - so went to Cabe Toyota instead. When my Prius was new and we were getting Toyota's free 2 yr. service, I asked to Bob Smith's to change my remote so all doors unlock with one push of the button. I was told it would cost $50 to reprogram so I passed. When I went to Glendale Toyota, they did the reprogramming for free. So yes, will come back for wiper blades, but not much else. read more

We just got a mailer to come in for a servicing of our Prius. NEVER AGAIN. Not on the basis of what happened last time. Almost $800 charge for who knows what, because we picked the car up with the same warning lights on as before - tires were not inflated, not rotated, and obviously not checked for tread wear (getting bald). The cap on an engine liquid had been left on the windshield! Hadn't noticed this until I'd directly driven from the "servicing" to a car wash 1/2 hour away near our home - they clearly hadn't finished the "servicing" but were sure to get our money. I immediately called in and they chirped "Oh, come in anytime AT YOUR CONVENIENCE and we'll take care of it". I immediately had to drive back on my deflated tires - amounting to hour round trip of TOTAL INCONVENIENCE. But even more important and dangerous was the INCOMPLETE SERVICING OF MY CAR, let alone the charging money for services they never provided. I will NEVER trust them again. When I got there (AGAIN) they seemed to be in confusion. Said they needed to take it and do something for awhile (no info). I'd already waited for hours. They decided to TURN THE WARNING LIGHTS OFF instead of servicing the cause of the lights being on that I had paid for. The warning lights resumed in a couple of days. I made an early morning appointment to take care of a recall item on my RAV4. The factory notice said to allow an hour. I know that the repair would actually take less than 15 minutes. I told the service advisor that I would like to wait for the car. He told me that it would take 2 to 3 hours and that I should get a Lyft and go home. I said no and left. Tom was our salesman and we were very happy with him. He gave us the car we wanted at a fair deal. No sleazy salesman stuff with him. He seemed like a real good guy. We had been looking for this certain model for over a month and because the car we bought is a rare anniversary edition, it was a little over MSRP, which I don't like, but it was much less over MSRP than any of the other dealerships in Southern or Northern California that we contacted. Some dealers were charging 10 grand over!! We paid a small fraction of that. When we are in the market for another Toyota, which we probably will be next year, I will definitely go back to Bob Smith and steer very clear of the other Toyota dealerships we dealt with. read more

This was the last straw. We made an appointment at 9:15 a.m. for a simple oil change nothing was communicated to us when making the appointment that the time didn't make a difference.. When we arrived we were told that they would not be able to see our car until 1:00 p.m. due to limited mechanics due to COVID guidelines! Then why have an appointment at 915 if you cannt take the car until 1? Their reservation system is pointless. That timing was way too late for us so we returned home. We wasted our gas in our time to drive out there from Simi Valley. This was the last straw. They used to be an honest reliable place to take your car but we have noticed a decline over the past couple of years (especially recommending services that were not needed). But when we got there, they wanted to charge $140 for detailing and refused to honor the online price even when they saw the screenshot showing the price list. See photo. Maybe a website issue, but one a reputable company would honor and then fix. I will be taking my car elsewhere. Edit: they said "We service 120 cars a day; do you think we can give everyone a free detailing?" Sounds to me like that means they make enough money to pay a web developer. read more

On 02/19/2022 I entered this dealership to buy a part, I approached Vincent Contreir of the parts department. He was extremely rude, harassed and discriminated me, then had the audacity to call the police on me when I was very calm and polite. Vincent used profanity and said he would not help me at all. When I told him I have a medical condition he said "i don't give a shit" I have this recorded on video. I informed the manager named Brett but he defended Vinces actions. The police arrived and I approached them, they agreed Vincent should not have called the police and or discriminated against me. I was free to leave but I will never return to this dealership I will take my business elsewhere. It is ILLEGAL to discriminate against people especially those with medical conditions. I am currently talking to Toyota's corporate headquarters and am considering taking legal action against this dealership for violating actual laws, ADA laws, civility rights act, to name a few. I would like for upper management to contact me in regards to this incident. This can't be allowed to happen again. I have the entire incident filmed on video. read more

So many bad reviews :( For the most part I've only had good experiences here. PROS + They mail you coupons which actually save a lot of money. For example, synthetic oil change normally costs $60, but with the coupon only comes ends up costing me $40. Steal! + They have a shuttle service for locals who live within 10 miles. 2-way shuttle that runs daily; starts at 7:20am and leaves every 20 min, last shuttle service departs at 5:20pm. + They offer to wash your car at the end if you get it serviced here for free! Although the most recent time I went they forgot :'( CONS - They might switch out your license plate outer with their "Bob Smith Toyota" one w/o asking. - Now that I've moved, it's slightly out of the way (all the way in La Crescenta) - Estimated times often incorrect; I was told an oil change would take 1.5 hours but ended up being 3 hours. Good thing I wasn't waiting around. Overall I'll be back b/c of their awesome coupons that help me save $$! And customer service has been friendly :) read more

i called earlier tonight and inquired about a Prius III with the solar sunroof and Jay helped me over the phone. he was very nice and pleasant to talk to even though he tried to tell me that the solar sunroof didn't come on the IIIs and was only on Prius IVs (that's a $5k up sale from the trim that I wanted and I had called enough Toyota dealerships today to know what I was talking about). anyways, he checked his inventory and saw that they had a couple of the one I wanted in stock. I was stoked and told him I would like to come in on the weekend. he told me that he doesn't work on the weekend but would come in for me. I thought that was nice so I told him that I could come once my husband got home around 7 and we agreed. while waiting for my husband to come home, I texted my friend who has a Prius to ask him how he likes his and he told me his sister in law could give me a really good deal. I had gotten a RAV4 from her but didn't want to bother her for another hook up but I ended up calling her and she quoted me $24.5k for the exact model and color that I wanted plus the 0% and 500$ rebate promotion so $24k! Jay told me $28-29k and that we could discuss something in person. I knew that this deal was going to be better so I made an appt with her and called Jay back to tell him I would not be coming tonight just out of courtesy. let's be completely real, I could have left him hanging but instead I thought I'd at least be cordial and let him know since he was nice to me. well, boooooooy did I regret it. once I told him I would not be able to come because I got a better quote, he tried to guilt trip me, say that I was lying about the quote I got because no dealership would want to lose that much money on a car and then proceeded to tell me to come in because he could work something out and "maybe" match it (people with small children do not have time to waste like that). and honestly after he changed his tune and was being condescending and trying to bully me to come in, I felt like a fool for even considering him in the first place. actually the way he said good-bye to me is what compelled me yelp my experience. he wished me luck with my family and my car purchase in the most sarcastic way and again reiterated the fact that I had wasted his time and that he doubts I will get the deal I was told even though I gave him full disclosure of how I got the deal. read more

Pretty cold heartless shady behavior here. I came here last year for service, this incident honestly still bugs me. They tried charging me 500$ to replace the front lights bulb on my car. Called me twice trying to rush a decision from me both times confirming their price after questioning it. Recently I found a pool of oily fluid under my 2007 Lexus RX350 with 100,000 miles. I brought it to service writer Z (short for Zareh) just before closing. Zareh and his staff put the car on a lift immediately. A first look indicated it might be a leaking timing chain cover, a very expensive job because it requires 35 hours labor and dropping the engine. I love this car, so I said, please call and confirm in the morning. We live nearby so my wife picked me up. When the phone rang the next morning I was delighted to learn their mechanic cleaned a great amount of oil around the engine compartment, used a dye to trace leaks, and reported that there was NO leak from the cover or anywhere else in the engine compartment after a 45 mile test drive. I was charged for the mechanic's time, and they did a good job cleaning up because there have been no leaks on the floor in the last month.
