We ordered: 1) Iced Strawberry matcha with boba ($5.75 + $0.50) // -1 The strawberry tasted really artificial, and way too sweet. *the owner messaged me and said they use real strawberries...good to know, but it still tasted weird considering I eat boxes of strawberries at a time lol* -1 The creamer to tea (there is tea, right?) ratio was really off, and made the drink taste too creamy. No tea flavor at all. *apparently no tea, and only milk. Hmm....didn't like the "milk" that was being used.* +1 Boba was perfectly fine. +/-1 Matcha tasted fine, but isn't the best I've had. 2) Iced Peach matcha with boba ($5.75 + $0.50) // -1 Oh gosh...the peach part was really MEH. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but Boba Drive seems to be taking that a bit too far. Ever walked in a fake Apple store in China? I got a similar vibe here. Borrowing successful and proven ideas here and there is nothing new but there is a fine line. A lot of the menu options are the same, down to the signature Strawberry Matcha specialty drink. Here, interestingly, the Straus Organic Milk is an extra charge where it's standard in the original Boba establishment. Why is that interesting? Because the prices are almost identical which I didn't expect. Here the large size cup appears to be slightly bigger but if you add the extra charge for the milk, it's actually pricier. They even source their baked goods from the same locale - Third Culture Bakery from Berkeley (a place you should definitely check out!). The location itself is clean, the staff seems friendly and overall it seems like a good place to grab boba and hang out. The boba itself is a bit mushy. Their sugar levels are on the higher end of the spectrum so I'd recommend 50% or less. They even borrowed the idea of having Boba Drive swag, shirts and stickers but let's be honest here, If I'm dropping cash to be a free walking billboard for you, I'd rather be rocking a Boba Bae shirt. I'd rate this establishment much higher, as many have done, had it not been for the fact that most of the elements I enjoyed about it were taken from elsewhere rather than being original to the brand, something they actually came up with themselves. Boba Dr. is coming out with super unique and high quality creations in the Bay Area! I hope this place honestly becomes a chain one day so there's some all over California because I genuinely think it's that good! My only reason for not giving it a 5-star rating is that this place is pretty expensive, but for high quality boba with milk options and tasty mochi treats, I would pay. I ordered the mochi muffin (out of donuts) and the mango matcha with oat milk and almond pudding and it was delicious! The mochi muffin was super soft and spongey, and tasted gourmet. The mango matcha wasn't overly sweet (75%) and it was the perfect blend of matcha and mango. I highly recommend oat milk in general since you can't really taste the difference especially with all the sugar packed into these drinks. Visited Boba Drive during their Soft Opening, so I went in open-minded and curious. There aren't many boba shops in the area and thought this was conveniently placed. The shop itself was aesthetically minimal with clean lines, high ceilings, marble tables, and pots hung up in macrame. The menu was easy to read and I like that you can see a bit into their kitchen brewing up tea. They serve fruit teas, hot teas as well as mochi donuts and cakes from Third Culture. They seem to focus more on their teas so I opted for a Lychee Milk Tea with boba. I was told that their sweetness is on the sweet side, so I opted for their less sweet option. They offer a good amount of choices for milk or milk alternatives as well as toppings. My drink's sweetness level was to my liking. I did feel like the boba was a bit on the soft side, bordering mushy. Overall, I didn't feel like the drink was amazing or stood out in any way. Yes, the drink is good ... but nothing I would go out of the way for. Staff was friendly and kind. Nice environment and good amount of parking. I visited Boba Drive two weeks ago to do some work on the laptop and try the tea! I ordered a roasted oolong milk tea 25 percent sweet with almond pudding and a mochi custard cake from Third Culture. The milk tea wasn't great. I could pretty much only taste the milk. Perhaps, the tea wasn't brewed long enough. The almond pudding was good . The matcha custard cake was dense and had little flavor. Overall, not my cup of tea this time but I am willing to try it again. Update from 2 stars to 4 I went back on 3/29/19. I got an oolong milk tea again and it was much better. The tea was brewed well and the drink was nicely made. Additionally, I got a matcha mochi donut which was tasty and soft. read more

What a cute, super accommodating to dietary needs, boba shop in Sunnyvale! The place is located in a plaza with a pretty spacious parking lot. There are several tables inside which makes it a nice hangout spot or study spot (free WiFi here), although it seems to be a popular spot and pretty busy. The menu is written out in a step by step, build your own drink, kind of fashion. You start with your tea base, decide to add milk or not, adjust the ice level, adjust the sweetness, and then opt in or out for toppings. They have several tea choices and they even have a few decaf teas (which I think is amazing for people who are either sensitive to caffeine or want something to drink if it's late night but can't afford to be up all night). In regards to their milk choice, they have more than what I've seen at most boba shops. They have soy, almond, and oat milk, which I thought was pretty impressive and very accommodating. I tried their decaf mango black tea at 25% sweetness, whereas my friend tried the house milk tea with oat milk at 50% sweetness. My tea was very refreshing, and for 25% sweetness, I found it to be still pretty sweet. The house milk tea was also good. The oat milk doesn't add the same kind of creaminess that regular milk does, but I think it's a great alternative for people who can't have dairy. The tea flavor was good, although I'm not sure if it was 5 star worthy quite yet. The boba pearls are made fresh here, although personally for me, I think more on the over-done/sticky side. They serve Third Culture treats here, which is nice since you don't need to go all the way to Berkeley for it. The mochi donuts are really good, and I'd give them a try if you haven't already! They also have cuta boba inspired merchandise here; I'm definitely a fan of the "boba of the spirits" coasters. Very cute and clever. 3.5 STARS Sometimes I feel like I went to a completely different place than everyone else. It's possible since I have a terrible sense of direction and I was legit looking for an actual street called "Boba Drive". Just kidding, I'm not that ditzy. Ok, I am. When Boba Drive first popped up on Yelp earlier this month, I read all the raving reviews for Boba Drive. In less than 1 day, there were over 20 five-star reviews posted (!!!) so I had high hopes. After eating at Chicken Meets Rice down Tasman Drive, I decided to stop by Boba Drive to grab a drink to enjoy for the drive back home to SF. The menu has an array of Fruit Teas, Matcha Teas, and make your own Milk Tea (Hot - $3.75, Iced - $4.75). I like that they offer several black tea, green tea, and oolong tea options. Milk choices (+50 cents): Straus or Califia almond milk. Topping choices (+50 cents each): boba, crystal boba, aloe vera, almond pudding, lychee jelly, egg pudding, matcha pudding, and mango pudding. You can adjust the ice and sweetness levels (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%). If you need a snack, they have Mochi Donuts and Mochi Custard Cakes from Third Culture. I ordered the Grapefruit Green Tea ($4.75) and Hojicha Milk Tea ($4.75 + 50 cents Straus milk), both 50% sweetness and regular ice. Let's start with the good, the staff is really friendly and cheery. The café is spacious so it's great for laptop camping or meeting up with friends. Very easy parking in the strip plaza. The not so good? The teas. I don't mind paying $5 or even $6 for good tea. For the price, I found Boba Drive's teas to be below average for the Bay Area. Both cups were filled to the brim with ice and once the ice settled, you can see that it took up nearly 80% of the cup. I always order regular ice at other places and never received that much ice. The Hojicha Milk Tea was super watery and tasted like lightly sweetened iced milk. I was bummed because not many places serve hojicha tea, a roasted green tea where most of the caffeine has been rendered so you're left with a lighty caffeinated roasted, nutty tea. The Grapefruit Green Tea had more tea flavor but was cloyingly sweet. Boba Drive is still in the soft opening phase so I'm hopeful they'll perfect their recipes. Stronger tea flavor please! They had lots of different milk and non-dairy options and a decent selection of non-caffeinated drinks to enjoy. Downsides are they keep the AC blasting even in the winter time and so it's freezing cold in there. I got a wintermelon milk tea with boba. Boba was good; nice texture and chew to it, but the drink itself was extremely sweet. Learned my lesson to ask for reduced sweetness next time. Still it was so sweet it sort of drowned out the tea flavor (and I'm sure the milk contributed to that too). This wouldn't be a place I could go out of my way for, but still a good spot. This has been my new spot for boba near work! It's really clean and minimalist design in the store, so it's a very nice spot to chill and grab some drinks. Honestly, I feel like Boba Drive is better than Boba Guys, since they have pretty similar menus. They have your standard milk tea drinks like oolong, assam, earl grey, etc., but they also have matcha milk teas with fruits! There's so many different choices that I've been meaning to try, but the earl grey keeps winning my heart over and over. I'm so happy that they have lots of milk options for those of you who are lactose! Their regular milk is lactose free already, so you don't need to spend an extra $0.50 to substitute ;). For those who like almond milk or oat milk, you can also get that here too! Anyways, I definitely love the earl grey milk tea here - it's very light and floral with a hint of citrus. Top it off with crystal boba, you got yourself a bomb AF drink! They also have a decent selection for pastries from Third Culture Bakery, basically those mochi donuts and mochi custard cakes that you've most likely been seeing around. Overall, pretty well-rounded spot for boba. The price gets a little steep when you start adding toppings and other stuff, average drink is probably around $5.25. I enjoyed my time at Boba Drive. It has a cool, clean, modern look. The merchandise is super cute and the baked goods look really inviting/tempting. I ordered an iced jasmine tea with regular milk, regular ice, 75% sweetness, and boba. This came out to $5.25. After placing the order, the tea was ready almost immediately and brought to our table. The jasmine flavor was subtle yet didn't taste diluted. I would prefer a stronger flavor, but the tea was still good. I like that the amount of regular ice isn't over the top. Sometimes at certain shops, they give you "regular ice" but you're left with a mountain of ice/not much milk tea in the end. It's not like that here. The ice gradually melted and I wasn't left with ice when I was finished. Maybe that's also because I tried to savor it and drink it slowly. I tried a bite of my friend's mango passion fruit mochi donut. I liked it because the mochi in the donut made it chewy + the mango flavor was strong. They used switch and bait tactics and later apologized publicly to save face. The service was super warm and welcoming, and the tea is good, but there are several reasons for my less than positive review: - Facebook advertised for BOGO FREE, not BOGO half off. The cashier told us that if we wanted to redeem our BOGO, at least one of the drinks had to be either a black tea or fruit tea. The specification was a bit annoying because it meant they were limiting which drinks you can try to get the discount, but I brushed it off. We ordered the strawberry matcha with lychee and a peach green tea with boba, and our "BOGO" total came out to $8.88. How?? - My drink (peach green tea with boba) was good, not the best of the best but definitely not bad at all. I was surprised by the peach bits, but that was my mistake for not reading the menu and seeing that fruit drinks come with bits of the fruit. My husband's drink (matcha strawberry) tasted quite syrupy and artificial. The only their boba shop with Matcha Strawberry (that we know of) is Boba Guys, and this place lacks in comparison. Why I gave this boba shop 5 stars: 1) Boba Drive offers a variety of alternative milk options-oat milk, soy, almond. They also have the whole milk. Classic Taiwanese milk tea is with creamer. Not only do they offer a variety but they also let you know that if you don't typically drink these alternates, your drink may be different. 2) Diversity of tea options and drinks. They do their own matcha drinks among a lot of other things. This place is NOT Boba Guys. Boba Guys is overhyped in my opinion and way too exThis shop has thoughtful design with lots of seating for those who want to hang out, do work, or just be in a community space of nice humans. There's plenty of outlets and the chairs actually will hold your backpack without slipping off. +1 on that aspect. 3) The tea is high-quality and delicious IN MY OPINION. I'm Taiwanese and am picky about that weak ass tea I've had at other spots. You get what you pay for. If you don't like your drink, ask for an adjustment. Don't be salty and post a nasty review if you really could've just asked the staff to help you out right then and there (time-permitting for your schedule). I ended up selecting a Mango Green Tea with Aloe Vera and a Thai Tea Custard Cake (from Third Culture Bakery, I believe). There is plenty of seating as the cafe is spacious. Stopped by during their soft opening. They're serving a limited menu during their soft opening, but they still have a pretty wide range of options available. They're located in a plaza with plenty of parking and also a small parking garage if the main parking lot gets full. The interior is really spacious and has a lot of seating. If you come with a bigger group you can also pull some tables together. I love their mini plant wall too. I tried the wuyi oolong milk tea (50% sweet) and my friend tried the assam milk tea (50% sweet). I added honey boba to mine - they have a bunch of other toppings too, like crystal boba, aloe, grass jelly, etc. I noticed that they also have matcha pudding, which I haven't seen at other boba establishments. I'll have to try that one next time! I'm also really excited that they sell pastries from third culture bakery! If you haven't had these pastries before you're in for a treat. The mochi muffins, custard cakes, and mochi donuts are all delicious. It's pretty exciting that you don't have to go all the way to Berkeley to get some of their pastries now. I stopped here on my way out of the Bay to hike for the weekend. It was super easy to find and park at. They had a nice variety of bobas to choose from. I had the Black Sesame Hoji and it was GREAT! I liked that it had sesame powder kind of at the bottom. I also tried the Strawberry Green tea and Jasmin green tea. The black sesame was the favorite among the group I was with. I was glad it was mine. The strawberry Green tea I tried was light sweetness but the strawberry flavor added a nice sweetness to the drink. They let me do light ice and lower the sweetness level which was nice. This wasn't an option with all drinks so you have to ask which ones can be modified if you want that option. The bobas themselves were sweet in a good way, making the light ice super important. It's all about the ideal ratio so you can suck up all the boba before getting to the bottom of the drink! Great new boba shop! It's in a part of Sunnyvale that I don't come by often, but might be a good thing because it means less crowds and easier parking. When I came by they were still in soft opening, but I believe they're officially opening in the next week or two. I tried two drinks - the peach oolong and the strawberry matcha. Both were delicious! I like that you can customize the milk (whole milk vs almond). Also all the drinks are gigantic (I think it's probably 24 oz for their iced drinks). I definitely recommend coming by to try it out! They also sell Third Culture mochi donuts/cakes but probably run out around by the evening. read more

Boba Drive is a cute spot in Sunnyvale. My +1 and I stopped by near closing on a Monday night to satisfy our milk tea cravings. The space was surprisingly large. There were plenty of 2-4 person tables, and I could definitely see this being a go-to study/work cafe if I lived in the area. The menu has a Boba Guys vibe, meaning super customizable down to your choice of milk. I was happily surprised to see they even offer oat milk! I got the hojicha with oat milk (50% sweet) and my bf got the roasted oolong with soy milk (25% sweet). The drinks were good and not at all too sweet, but we felt they were a bit watered down and that the tea taste should have been stronger. Another plus is that they offer Third Culture Bakery mochi muffins & donuts. To be honest, I went in with pretty low expectations given that this was a boba shop in Sunnyvale. They day I went, I was a bit crunched for time, so I figured I'd call in to place the pickup order ahead of time. Over the phone, they told me that don't take orders over the phone, but they pointed me to place a pickup order through DoorDash. I couldn't find Boba Drive on on DoorDash for some reason, so I ended up just placing the order in person. Luckily, there was barely a line so my order of 2 drinks was completed in 5 minutes! I got the Bee-long Milk Tea with boba (1/2 sweet and less ice). I asked for no ice, but they told me that wasn't possible :( Despite that, I was pleasantly surprised! Who else wants to live on this street? (lol) This is one of our go-to stops for boba whenever we're in the area (especially because it's less than 2 miles from St. John's) and they've got a pretty good menu for drinks! Our group ended up getting the lychee yakult green tea and honey roasted oolong tea, but their black sesame hojicha drink (not pictured) is also pretty bomb! We've been going here for a few years now and it's been consistently good! Only thing is their drinks can be sweet, so if you usually go for 75% sweet, we recommend toning it down to 50%. This place is honestly just your typical boba store with a modern interior and plenty of tables, and there's free wifi which makes it a great spot to study or work at. This boba shop is in a modern looking plaza and the store itself is extremely clean. Everything about this store reminds me of boba guys: the menu, drinks, third culture bakery products, and even the system they use for check out. Unfortunately, I was hoping their strawberry matcha latte with oat milk would taste the same as Boba Guys, but it wasn't similar at all. It had a fishier matcha taste and the strawberry purée made the drink taste like Special K Crisps. It wasn't a bad drink, but it just wasn't what I wanted or hoped for. The lychee green tea tasted exactly how you'd expect it to and I would order it again. The drinks here aren't the best and they're on the pricier end, but they're not too bad either. Swung by this place after lunch to grab a sweet bite to eat cause why not? Through yelp reviews we got really excited by the mochi donuts. Once we got there we were quick to order the following: * ube coconut mochi donut - this was really yummy, definitely had a strong ube flavor which I loved *mango passion fruit mochi donut - this was my favorite it had a sweet and sour flavor and some pieces of chocolate on top which gave each bite a nice crunch * matcha custard cake - this was also good with a strong flavor of matcha. I liked this but was my least favorite from everything that I tried. *** my only complaint is that none of this was warm as that would've been perfect! Was pleasantly surprised by both me and my wife's drink (strawberry matcha latte, and bee long milk tea). When I saw the menu and aesthetic, I sort of thought this was going to be a Boba Guy's knock off. But after trying it, I'd say it's even better than Boba Guys! The boba was super chewy (on the stiffer side which is exactly how I like it) and coated with sweetness, making it the ideal boba in my book. The strawberry matcha flavor was perfect, the puree tasted fresh and authentic. The bee long milk tea's flavor also really took me by surprise! The honey flavor was really rich and tasted high quality. Overall, I'd say their drinks are pretty sweet (so lower the sweetness accordingly) but in a natural way. For example it felt like the sweetness came from the strawberry puree and the honey, rather than from just added sugar. The price was on the expensive side ($6-7 per drink), but given how satisfied I was with our drinks, I'd say it was worth it. I'll definitely be coming back to try more! I really appreciate the COVID precautions at this boba shop! The cashier is 6 feet away when you order, and it's a touch less transaction! I got a jasmine green tea with salted creams. Definitely in the top 10% salted cream drinks I've tried. I recommend getting 50% sweet as my drink was on the sweeter side. They will also give you the option to have it sealed or with a lid. My friend had recommended this place for their mochi donuts. So of course I had to go try it for myself. Cute spot next door to Specialty. They have a little of everything for everyone-caffeine free stuff, soy milk, etc. We ordered: Chocolate mochi donut: 4/5 good chewy texture Ube cake: 4/5 chewy as well, didn't taste much of the ube though Peach green tea with lychee jelly: 4/5 they make their teas with real fruit. I will stop by here every once in a while because it's right next to my workplace. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I came in on Tuesday afternoon and ordered a drink. When I came in I was actually a bit surprised to see a few groups of people inside. I waited around 15 minutes before my drink came out - I suppose they were understaffed. I don't blame the staff at all, but I was still feeling a bit frustrated about it. I got a Hojicha milk tea. It was fine. I came here mostly to try the baked goods from Third Culture Bakery, which were just ok. My friends and I tried ube and matcha mochi donuts, and ube, matcha, and Thai tea custard cakes. They definitely look better than they tasted. The custard cakes remind me of the Vietnamese honeycomb cakes and didn't have as much flavor as I hoped (although Thai tea was probably the best one of the 3 I tried). Came here when they first opened and enjoyed a boba and mochi donut while sitting inside to get some work done--this of course was in the Before Times. Happy to see they're still open during the SIP for in-person orders as well as online orders. Just remember to wear a mask! They're open daily and have released some really cool drinks since the early days plus they offer Oat Milk as a milk option. Yup! House Coffee and Bee-Long are both solid--I always do less sweet and more ice cuz I'm weird like that. But hey you do you and they'll make it extra delicious to your liking. I decided to try this cute Boba place because I was craving 'Third Culture' mochi muffins and the website said that they had them. Unfortunately, they did not have the muffins. But, I did order Assam tea based Boba and it was "oh so good"!! The Boba was soft and well flavored and the tea was definitely good quality Assam tea. Since, waiting in the shop was not an option, I decided to wait in the car. They brought the drink to me!! Extra points for that.
