They have a pretty large menu to choose from, luckily their cashier is helpful and will orient you. Each tea is offered hot and iced. I choose the Mango Melage with boba which had a a very subtle taste of mango. It wasn't very sweet and did taste a little watered down, but it was not bad. The boba tasted fine, for this reason I would return and try some of their other drinks. There really is no other place like this in Bakersfield, I'd like to see this business strive. We are huge bubble tea addicts and have driven to Ontario and Lancaster in search of a fantastic cup of bubble tea and those two cities did not disappoint! Now this tea was definitely a low point on our tea-ventures. We got the almond milk tea with boba. It was milky white with way too much ice. Tasted nothing like milk tea or almond flavor. The cups kept leaking on us every time we took a sip and the whole experience was so lacking that we decided to throw our $6 of tea away in search of something better and more authentic in this city. Tea Bar isn't your typical milk tea spot. They definitely specialize in a variety of loose leaf teas that are probably meant to be ordered hot or iced, without any milk or toppings, so you can fully appreciate the organic flavors. But I was craving something creamy so the worker recommended a vanilla oolong since it blends well with milk. I ordered that with boba. It was pretty good but definitely on the lighter side and less sweet. The boba wasn't the best so I'd probably skip on that if I came back here. If you want a sweet drink, order the smoothies so you have a better selection of the sweeter flavors. They also have a long list of "specialty drinks" with unique names like Black Mamba or Nicki Minaj... but there's no description at all for these. So either you take a risk (like my boyfriend did) or be the annoying customer and ask what's in them (like me). You're better off just asking for a recommendation based off of what you're craving. My boyfriend blindly ordered a Bomb.com and it wasn't that great - tasted like a watery chai tea latte minus the milk. On the plus side, this is the only boba spot that I've ever seen with a drive thru, so that's pretty neat! read more

Am not a real connoisseur of tea, but was intrigued. First off the place is not easy to find off the street. Quite frankly, found this place by accident, so decided to try it. It is small but cozy and the employee was very helpful in helping us pick something. I had the Ginger Peach iced tea and my companion had the Pomegranate Green tea hot. We also considered ordering either one of their chocolate chip or Madeleine cookies. Our drinks came to a little over $6. We were both very pleasantly surprised with what we got. The teas they make are from loose leaf mixtures, so the fruitiness and lovely aroma really came through. If you are looking for an alternative to coffee this is a good place to go. read more

We even gave the smoothies a chance but they just tasted like freezer burned fruit... Been from one boba place to another and since I was in a hunt for one in town, I was happy to spot this place. I have tried other places and all I can say is, it's mediocre. But one this this place made me love it is their Taro smoothie. One of the very first boba place to open in Bakersfield. Props for this business for that! This town definitely needed to set the trend. However there are some things to work out. To begin, Tea bar had one location when I first got to Bakersfield, but there are now two. Both of them located further out from where I lived but no choice. Pretty easy to find either way... The place is essentially pretty chill compared to other boba place that I'm used to. Definitely got some space to eat or drink-in and chat with friends. Place doesn't seem to pack too often so you can probably go and study there too if you wanted. Vibe is pretty relax with some background music that's not too loud. Now when it comes to the drinks, unfortunately that's where things fall short. Most of the typical drinks that I get jasmine milk tea, taro slush, honey dew slush, boba milk tea all really don't taste anything like they should. For the most part, they're very bland, unflavorful, and lacking in either tea or are just straight from powder... I'm just not sure that this would be a place I'd go back to too often. Even their favorites like Nicki Minaj don't really appeal to my taste... Overall I'd give this place 2.25/5 for being a nice place to kick it with AC, good ambiance but when it comes to drinks, it's a little lacking in the taste department for me. Nice people working there but also, the drinks taste different every time I came back out of the 3-4 times I tried them. The drinks here are refreshing. It's nice to see that their menu changes often. I love the iced teas especially since there is a great variety of them. The place is nice, however it is a bit small in there. The only downside is that the drive thru takes a while to even take your order since they are busy with the customers inside. Damn... That's all I can say. This place is in my top tea places OF ALL TIME. Here they are in no particular order: a) Some random place in LA my wife took me to in her old stomping grounds of her Alma Mater, UCLA. b) A tea place in Dallas where my profile pic was taken (at least I'm pretty sure this is where the pic was taken) c) This place d) Pongsri in NYC. This place blows Boba Buck out of the water (as Oscar H. had suggested to me); I'm thoroughly impressed. Why? What does this place do that places not in my top list don't? 1) The boba was freaking perfectly cooked; not mushy like every other place not in my list makes it. It was so good, after first tasting the tapioca boba, i immediately requested more to be added. 2) It's not too sweet. That's my pet peeve... I want to taste the tea, not sugar. This isn't Texas Sweet tea which is 3/4 sugar with a side of diabeetus. 3) They allowed us to smell each tea and brewed it right in front of us. The tea-barista (?) timed the steep in order to extract the perfect amount of flavor from the dried leaf. Update: from 4 to 5 stars. Quality iced teas. Always made fresh which accounts for having to wait a bit for your drink, but it is worth it. Most drinks have a great balance of natural tea and some artificial flavors. The staff is well versed in the flavors and benefits of the different teas. Way back to my days at UC Irvine. Not to mention my (now) wife worked at a very popular boba place and always brought home my drinks of choice from work. Additionally, my room mate and I would always go for a boba run during late nights of studying (read: playing Halo 2) to get our fill of caffeine and sugar. Finally! Decent boba. Gone are the days I go to places where they make boba just on the side here in Bako. The other places have boba that are too mushy and you can tell its been sitting there all day. Once at one of the places, the boba tasted like it was rotten and the lady insisted that it wasn't - that it was just the way that flavor drink tasted. I'm still a little mad about that...haha! At Tea Bar, the boba is just the right texture and sweetness. Maybe a tad bit too sweet, but I can live with it being the selection is scarce in town. Really though, this place if very comparable to my favorite SoCal spots. Additionally, they have other jelly things to go with the tea if you feel like something different. This place is a high 4 stars. I reserve my 5 stars for my favorite place in SoCal. Hopefully they add some food variety for people to snack on. For newbies, I would recommend the iced green milk tea freshly brewed. There is a quick mix variety that my wife and I don't care for. Or maybe try just plain sweetened green tea with boba. I used to always go with that when I couldn't decide what I wanted. The guys there are really cool and seem really receptive to making your drink your way. If you're feeling adventurous, ask them what they like to drink and they may make you a custom drink that isn't on the menu. Hopefully they eventually serve fried foods there on the side -- fried spiced calamari or spiced chicken come to mind. read more

I LOVE THE TEA BAR. Seriously, I love it so much I will say it twice. I LOVE the Tea Bar. I'm a tea nut, and very few things beat a big cup of fresh-brewed loose leaf tea from this place. I seriously come here (or at least try to) like once a week and hang out with a friend, it's a great little place to chill, use the free wireless, read, and/or and play board games! The staff here are all super awesome and friendly and great. I've tried several different teas here, though not all by far...and I keep attempting to try new ones but I usually always cave in and get my favorite, which is the honeybush hazelnut rooibos. It's DELICIOUS, hot or cold, with or without milk. I usually get it with a little milk, though I tell them "half milk," aka half the amount they would normally put it, so it doesn't dilute the amazing nutty tea flavor but gives it just the perfect amount of sweet milkiness. Mmmm. Other flavors I like are the mango melage (though its best blended with the Oriental spice tea - it reminds me of the Mexican spicy mango candies), any of the Jasmine teas (rooibos, green, or oolong), and the "Nicki Minaj" and "Gin and Juice" specials. The coconut jello is also pretty good if you're in the mood for that. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of here is the smoothies - they aren't bad, necessarily, but they're pretty much the same as at any other Asian boba tea place...good variety of flavors but all from a powder. The only exception to that I've noticed is the avocado smoothie, I dunno if they're still doing it but for a while they were doing a special thing with real avocado, though when I tried it I think there definitely needed to be more avocado in it...it was mostly milk and ice and I didn't even taste the avocado. Which is a shame b/c avocado is like my favorite food in the world. Oh well, I stick to the awesome teas :) read more

I LOVE this place! And what is not to love? The signage gives you the impression that this is strictly a drive through place. And while it does have drive through service, you're missing A LOT if you don't come inside at least once! They also have some seating with tables and chairs outside, but in Bakersfield it is not yet sit outside weather, so I'll have to wait to try that out. The space is about the size of a Starbucks inside. There are floor to ceiling windows on both the long walls so it's very bright and cheery. The decor is Asian, with a predominance of green and red and images of birds and flowers. There are 4 tall round tables with stools to sit at, and a separate area with low tables and upholstered chairs. There is a shelving unit with magazines and games like checkers and Chinese checkers. This gives me the impression they actually want you to feel comfortable lingering instead of trying to get you in and out quickly. And with free wi-fi I'm tempted to bring my laptop next time and stay. They have many different types of loose tea on display, 16 different types of syrups (they call them flavor shots), and they advertise smoothies and Boba. I ordered a pomegranate green tea. It took a few minutes to prepare, but the process made it feel more like a hand crafted beverage. It wasn't cheap (in the $4 range) but it's comparable to the price of fancy coffees and the taste is FAR SUPERIOR to that of the tea usually available at the fancy coffee shops. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other options! Okay - some new favorites: ginger peach milk tea with Boba, and roobios jasmine with soy. My mom had an avocado smoothie and it was pretty good, too! Update I'm sitting in a comfortably upholstered chair in the Tea Bar as I type this, using their free wi-fi and sipping a ginger peach milk tea with Boba while writing new Yelp reviews. This is my favorite boba place in town! Their service is super friendly, and the drive-thru is reliably fast. The vibe inside is great too - I always see undergrads studying and others just hanging out. Caveat: their teas are strong. I usually order the Jasmine with lychee, and I sometimes have to dilute it - no biggie: that just means more tea for later. Otherwise, I get their taro smoothie with boba, and it's awesome. Passion fruit smoothie is great too. And I think they upgrade your order (large for the price of a regular) after 6PM on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Their drinks are an excellent value regardless, but it's very cool they have happy hour! read more

Love this spot.. The only downfalll is the fact that they open at 9am but the boba isn't ready til 10am. The drive through is a plus also if you wanna just stop by and go in and out of there, but the wait time is just about the same whether you order from the window or from inside. Yummy Taro tea & strawberry milkshake. It was our first time there. Very confusing for new customers. No arrows to figure out which way to go in the drive up. No sign telling you that it is ok to come in, just signs for curbside pick-up. If they want new customers, they need a little more signage that explains procedures & welcomes people inside. This is my first time back since they first opened oh...a couple years ago. It's not bad for a boba place in Bakersfield. Definitely can't compare with the boba places in LA though. What turned me off at first is probably the price. $3.85 for a regular Thai tea with boba that took me less than a minute to finish?!?!? I can get the same drink down in LA for half that price!!! The Thai tea isn't bad but they can probably lay off on the half and half since the tea flavor is a little on the weak side. The boba isn't that bad. It's not hard. A little chewy though not as sweet and chewy as the boba places in LA. There's a nice seating area with some magazines and board games for people to hang out. This place frustrates me. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee and a Jasmine Milk Tea. Both were horribly made. Coffee was immensely sweet. I tried waiting for the ice to melt so the sweetness could lessen a bit, but that didn't work. The girl who made our drinks forgot to put milk into my jasmine milk tea, so I politely asked if she could fix it for me. I get it, we all make mistakes. I wasn't upset, but she wasn't very apologetic about it, so it became irritable. She then took out a carton of milk and poured way too much milk into my milk tea. My jasmine milk tea tasted like MILK, plain white milk. Never coming back! ugh! read more

Oh Bakersfield. You and your low standards for boba and milk tea.... I came in looking for some true milk tea, but what I got was just regular milk with tea. Maybe that doesn't make sense to you, but it literally was just black tea + cold milk + sweetener. I could make that at home. I can't rate the tea itself, but I can rate my drink, and I did not like it. We also got the thai tea with boba. This drink tasted better than the milk tea, but it still wasn't as rich or creamy as it usually is. They also gave us like 20 tapioca balls. Come on, be a little less stingy with the boba! Two stars instead of one for this place because at least the boba itself didn't taste horrible. I probably won't return unless I get an unquenchable craving for boba... Not a good place if you want Milk Tea with Boba. Last time I was here, I was very disappointed with my black milk tea. Two years later, I decided to give this place another chance. Maybe they changed management or the recipe. Their black milk tea tasted the same as two years ago. It tasted like it was made from Lipton Iced Tea bags with Half&Half. Note these are things you can buy from Vons and make it at home. Additionally, my friend ordered Almond Black Milk Tea with boba. IT WAS COMPLETELY WATERED DOWN. The boba wasn't even soft or chewy. There are two things that Tea Bar gets right that puts them way ahead of other Bakersfield boba drink shops: 1) they actually steep tea 2) they boil their boba fresh. I can't believe how many times I've tasted frozen boba in Bakersfield but, I've never had it here. Their boba is always at the right consistency. Their menu is huge and can be overwhelming. I always stick to a green or black tea with a shot of Torani syrup. Sometimes I'll go for a lychee or passion fruit smoothie. What a cute place! As a fan of specialty teas, this spot is right up my alley and I was excited to see it in the parking lot on our way to the Asian Market. I couldn't believe how many different combinations of flavors that they have come up with here! The only bummer was how HOT the tea was served; it was an exercise is delayed gratification because it took so long before it was drinkable.
