It's only $3 for most of the drinks so that's pretty cheap in comparison to many other boba joints I usually visit on Convoy and boba is included in your drink so you don't have to pay an additional 50 cents. Boba quality - 2 stars. It is super hard and it has a kind of funky taste to it. I often visit boba places and I know good boba vs. bad boba. The boba here doesn't quite hit the spot so I recommend either not getting the boba or substituting it for something else like jelly. read more

So many options on the menu but I went for the green tea boba. My husband got the taro with boba. I also got an order of the Curley fries because who doesn't love Curley fries? My tea was not good. I had high hopes for my tea and it was way too watery. It was not good. I threw it away after a few sips cause I was not about to wait in that line again to exchange it. I was really bummed. With that said, I always order the jasmine milk tea with no boba and popcorn chicken when it's available. You can ask for the level of spiciness of the chicken: mild, medium and spicy. Been a fan since day 1...literally (one of the owners is a relative). Their menu for food and drinks has since changed. Options for milk teas, slushes, smoothies, hot drinks, and even food menu items has increased. Priced on the low side compared to many other boba places in the county. Some drink items use fresh fruits and some items use powder. They used to have custard pudding that you could add to your drinks and it was perfect with Thai tea milk tea. Ohhh... but alas there wasn't too much profit because only family knew about that mix. My go-to's are almond milk tea, thai tea, avocado smoothie, cookies and cream smoothie, Vietnamese coffee milk tea, and a strawberry/peach slushie. Not sure if you can request less sweetness because I've never asked but some drinks are on the sweet side. Fiance always goes for the Thai tea slush with ice cream blended in. In the food realm, fiance and I usually order their popcorn chicken when in stock...mild for me; medium for adventurous. Popcorn chicken here is juicier with more meat than batter, and if you like it really heavy handed on the spice, just let them know. One of my friends requested it be so spicy it makes you sneeze. They have done away with the stamped cards system and now are using FiveStar program for points. The great thing about this is you can get free drinks, free upgrades, free menu items, or even a Bobalicious t-shirt. Pretty cool. Decor is always updated. It's a modern hip boba shop with comfy chairs and lots of seating. TVs all around to catch the latest sports updates or watch music videos. So happy my friend took me to this place, I am a die hard bubble tea fan and since I dont travel outside my bubble of North County as much, it was a great pleasure to step into this busy local spot. For less than $4, I got a large and sipped on it for about 24 hours, as I had to stop drinking it as the night wore on or I would have been bouncing off the walls all night instead of sleeping. Wrinkly balls make me sad. Having to pay $3 for wrinkly balls makes me sadder... DRINKAGE: In case you haven't figured it out, the wrinkly balls I refer to are the stale, dried up boba that I found in my Honeydew smoothie at Bobalicious. My pal Greg said his balls were wrinkly too (the balls in his cappuchino smoothie, not THOSE balls). I guess the boba place didn't get the memo - pasta, NOT boba tapioca pearls, should be al dente. While I usually spend most of my boba-drinking time trying to catch all the pearls at the bottom, both Greg and I spent most of our boba-drinking time avoiding the unfresh pearls. The only good thing about those boba balls is that we had fun shooting them at each other with our straws when we finished our beverages. The actual beverage itself was meh - not horrific, and satisfied our thirst from hiking in 80 degree weather, but was very syrupy and sweet. NOT "Bobalicious", like the name of this place proclaims. AMBIENCE: From the bright green colored tiled walls to the cheap bright Ikea couches this place screams, "High School Hangout". All them kiddies skateboarding on the sidewalk outside while drinking their boba (isn't that a choking hazard?) admittedly, made me feel old. I think this is where teeny-boppers frequent until they develop finer palates and realize how much artificial stuff was in their boba drinks. I will add an extra star because the servers were very nice and got our drinks to us quickly, but cute as that girl was behind the counter, I probably won't be buying drinks from her again. PRICES: $2.99 - $3.99 per drink, depending on whether you order the plain teas or the smoothies with real fruit. Somehow I naively thought that they would put actual honeydew in my honeydew smoothie, so if they did, the $2.99 I paid would have made the drink worth it. But, couple artificial honeydew aftertaste with wrinkly boba balls and...I dunno, maybe Bobalicious was having an off day? Even so, the biggest offense of any boba place, in my opinion, is not serving fresh boba. Seriously. The balls were more than likely at least a day old. AND, it's right next to the yet-to-be-opened "Yogurtlicious", which is probably owned by the same people who own Bobalicious. I'll admit that I'm a creature of habit when it comes to boba. I never get tapioca balls, and I usually stick to mango, cantaloupe or pineapple slushes. Mango is by far my favorite and Bobalicious makes a mean mango slush. It really doesn't matter who's making it so long as they use a measuring spoon. I've never been disappointed here. Every so often I'll even take part in a game of Crazy 8's or Connect Four. Not at the same time though! It's hard for me to give any boba place 4 stars, because that would mean that their food is equally as good as their drinks. After taking over from the spectacularly named "baguette up", a similarly named "bobalicious" popped up in my neighborhood. I came in on my lunch break got some chicken poppers, which were bomb, I have to say. Left a great impression and I decided I would go back again soon. After playing tennis a week later, I was famished. I went on yelp and saw that they closed at 10 or something. It was 9. I went for the chicken. They told me the kitchen was closed. Ok, a little early to be closing the kitchen but understandable. I worked in a similar place before and we closed our kitchen 30 minutes before closing but whatever. I wanted that damn chicken so I went two days later at 1pm on a Sunday. I order the chicken and they tell me they haven't defrosted it yet. Sorry. How long will it take? Another two hours. Get the hell out. What kind of restaurant doesn't defrost their chicken by lunch time? An older lady walks in with her kid and asks for the same thing...so I'm not the only one. I walk out with a drink that was eh and some crappy nachos. Finally, today I walk in at 2 looking for that chicken. It's a weekday. I think 2's plenty of time to defrost a chicken. If I started at 10am and blew hot breaths at a chicken, I'd probably have it defrosted by 2. I stroll right in, finally ready to have chicken. They ran out. Sorry. Strike 3. 1 star yelp review. I figure these guys don't know how to run a business, or are too lazy to shape up. Learn some supply and demand. Learn to stock your chicken so you don't run out at 2. This place is possibly one of the cheapest places to get boba in the Mira Mesa area. The drinks aren't bad at all. I must recommend the avocado shake. It was a taste reminiscent of my childhood when my dad made avocado shakes from the avocados in our backyard in Hawaii. Unfortunately, the demographics of customers tend to be in the middle- high school age range. So I feel old being there. I came here once one evening with my friend and the cashier seemed pretty rude. Under the "Milk Tea" section are listed "Green Tea" and "Green Milk Tea." Because both items were listed under the "Milk Tea" heading, we wondered if there was a difference between the two.( If in fact Green Tea is just green tea w/o milk but incorrectly categorized as a Milk Tea or if they just listed Green Tea twice on their menu.) So we asked the cashier if there is in fact a difference between the "Green Tea" & "Green Milk Tea" for clarification. He rudely tells us "Green Milk Tea has milk." And it was in a "What?-Can't-You-Read-Ya-Dumb@ss??" kinda way too. Thank you for making us feel stupid. It's not our fault your menu wasn't clear on its categorization. Geez. On my way over I tried calling to place my order, no answer but I just thought they were busy. Still kept driving that way (it's a ways away from my house) to make it before closing time. This place is like that girl you work with...you know that girl? She's a 5/10 in the outside world, but at work..she's a good strong 8/10. When there are no girls around, she bumps up to a 9. At a work meeting she does an impressive presentation...then bam...she's a 10/10. You get in the car and visit the local food plaza. At the food plaza you notice other women, probably those working in HR, finance, administrative jobs... and you say woah (in your head). I'd say this is a decent place for boba in the Mira Mesa area as far as price and taste. I believe everything is 2.99 for either slush, milk tea or smoothie and you can add 75 cents to make it a large. They also so have a rewards program so don't forget to sign up. If you forget your card you can just provide your phone number. You buy 10 drinks and get 1 free. They did some renovation and it looks way better than how it used to be. Alot more welcoming and more tables and chairs. The service is alright. A lot of young people working here so you won't get thee best service. It's more like you're just in and out. It does get packed in the afternoon once kids are out of school so I suggest going beforehand or later in the day. I like ordering the honeydew smoothie with extra boba. I also tried the crispy chicken a few times served with ranch. I think the chicken is pretty pricey for what they give. They also have other food items available. Pleasant employees-- they offer samples of most drinks including the toppings and emit friendly vibes, definitely friendlier than most of the boba places on Convoy. Their classic milk tea and tapioca are solid, yet some of their other items (flavored milk teas, taro) can be hit-or-miss, although nothing terrible. I'm very picky when it comes to the boba itself, and the consistency of their tapioca is definitely on point to my standards, and for those who enjoy them soft with a chewy interior.
