I am going to anoint myself the Boba Empress as I have been drinking boba probably since I was in my mom's womb back close to 50 years ago. I guess given my age, I might be the Boba Madam lol. Ive had boba long before it became trendy in the US and the only place you could get a boba milk tea was in Taiwan. How I remember those holiday trips and never wanted to come back. Fast forward twenty more years and boba really started taking off once I was a grown adult and seeing them all around NYC. Its of much pride and joy that my ancestry is the place of boba. Ive had DaYungs in Phoenix and do like that they have fresh taro puree there and today when I came in here agter hot yoga, I tried a milk tea with taro puree and added boba, less ice and 30% sugar. I ordered at a contactless machine and before I could even finish checking in on Yelp, my drink was ready. This place is clean and not too much traffic when I came in. Its in a convenient location with a lot of restaurant choices in the area and ample parking. Drink was good, but still too sweet for me. I wanted to try a new boba place and came across this one. There's a couple self-order kiosks at the front where you can place your orders. I ordered the Roasted Oolong Tea ($5.79) and Boba ($0.75), and I love that they have roasted oolong, which I don't come across often at other tea shops. They also have some seasonal and limited drinks on their menu. We were about the only ones there, so they made our drinks pretty quickly. Everything was pretty good, just that nothing was outstanding about it either. The boba was nice and chewy, and were pretty consistent. The tea itself was flavorful and not too sweet, although it's because I adjusted the sweetness to it. It's another nice boba shop to go to as an option, but I wouldn't say that I would go out of my way for it. I would say I would go here more for convenience if I'm already in the area. read more

Quick boba stop on my way home from errands. Location is close to the freeway with ample parking in a small shopping center overlooking the freeway. The shop is small, but quite cute with tables for relaxing and a photo machine for fun pictures, much like the purikura machines in Japan. All orders are placed through a kiosk which was fine, it did allow for orders to be placed quickly and let the employees focus on preparing any drinks. I was excited when I realized there was a SD location for DaYung's Tea, I had tried this place before in Arizona and loved it but unfortunately didn't really love this location. I got the strawberry fresh milk which ive had before in another DaYung's location but this one tasted watered down, not strong in flavor so I was disappointed. The boba was also on the smaller side, it was cooked well but I've had better boba quality elsewhere. The location is great, by a lot of different grocery stores and workout gyms, wasn't too hard to find parking. We ordered through doordash and our order wasn't ready at the scheduled time which is a little annoying but they were busy. We got our drinks 10 or so minutes after the scheduled time. The actual drink flavor was really good! The pink beauty is a grapefruit drink with aloe and aiyu jelly. If you want a lighter drink, this is it. I got it with less ice and 30% sugar which was perfect. Strong grapefruit flavor. I liked the additional chew of the jelly too. My partner really liked his drink as well. We came in around 450pm and as first timers, it took awhile to get our drink orders with 15% offered in the kiosk. When I tried to pay, it said "promotion invalid for 1 or more drinks" or something of that sort. We walk over to workers and one of the workers said sorry about that, it does that sometimes. Then the other worker says the promotion was good until 5. I look at the clock and It says 5:01. Then they did the I'm sorry dance and the "yeah, I think it's over at 5." I process that they are serious and not honoring what the kiosk allowed us to put in the cart. The clock still says 5:01 and in that instance asked if we can go back to the kiosk to place our order again... while she had a register in front of her she can punch our order into. And the kiosk, after 5:02, the promotion is still displaying as option in kiosk. No signs anywhere. If we didn't have our teens with us, we would have walked out. For my drinks.. way tooo sweet at 70% less ice. Can't drink. Will need 2 cups of ice at least to pour this into. This was Kumquat Beauty. My teens are happy with their drinks. The 70% sugar less ice was accurate on that one. Hubby's was ok. Will not be back. I ordered the kumquat green tea with lychee jelly and my husband ordered fresh watermelon juice with taro and boba (a little weird, but he loves it). I always saw this boba shop whenever I shopped at Trader Joe's, so I decided to check it out on a whim one day LOL. It's located next to See's Candy, Kappa Sushi, and Supercuts in the Scripps Ranch Shopping Center in Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch. There's a parking lot with ample stalls. The only downside about this shopping center is the entrance and exit out of it. There's only one "main" way to enter and exit to go to the freeway, and it's through Mira Mesa Blvd. The line of cars extends all the way to Trader Joe's sometimes. There are two other ways in and out, but they both head towards Lake Miramar, making a huge circle to get to Mira Mesa Blvd. I got their Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with my usual 50% sweetness. The drink was good, but it had more of creamy flavor than tea flavor that I preferred. There was still a subtle hint of oolong which I definitely appreciated. It was also still very sweet even at 50% sweetness and no toppings. Making a mental note to ask for my future drinks to be maybe 25% sweetness. Huge selection of drinks to choose from! I would like to try their other drinks such as their classic special collection, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless I'm already shopping at Trader Joe's. P.S. They do not take your order at the counter unless you have a gift card transaction or are redeeming points. There is a sign specifically for that along with other signs. I came in after a Trader Joe's trip and craved milk tea--as one usually does after grocery shopping. I've had DaYung's before but have not had it in awhile so I figured, "Why not?!" The boba shop was empty with a lone staff at the front who greeted me. It is small, but it has plenty of natural lighting and a few tables to get a small group by, or a solo boba fren to hangout in there. I already knew what I wanted: I almost always get non-dairy wintermelon since my discovery of the flavor. They have two side-by-side kiosks, which is what I used to order. After entering my order in their nifty kiosk, my milk tea was done in just a few minutes. I think I drank quite possibly the best wintermelon milk tea latte I've ever had. Literally. It was slightly sweeter than usual, which is how I prefer my iced drinks to combat the melted water from the ice. Like others mentioned, they use fresh fruit, which I think is what was floating around in my drink! My only gripe is the price. It was about $7 before tip, but a $7 well spent! As I drove away happily sipping this delicious milk tea, I couldn't help but wonder when I would get it again. Knowing me, it will probably be this weekend, or next week, lol. I love Oreo drinks at other boba shops, the ones that are thicker and sometimes with custard. As someone who enjoys a delightful boba tea, this store has let my expectations down. I go here often because I get off work and i need a sweet treat. Every time I order a drink here, it's either too sweet, too watery, or both. Once, I ordered the "Pink Beauty" and oh my days. The texture was extremely goopy, slimy, and oatmeaH-ike. The color of the drink looked like vomit, I was about to throw up. As a ex-food critic in my 20's, I am extremely disappointed. The names of the drink are embarassingly corny and the presentation of the drinks are not aesthetically pleasing to look at. I know you guys are a chinese-owned business, but you need to step up your game. In addition, what is your stores name? What is "DaYung's" even mean genuinely? There are thousands of competitors doing your type of business like HeyTea and DaBoba (the best). You are going to go out of business soon if you dont compete against them correctly. I recently translated your Chinese logo, and it writes out in pinyin "Da yuan zi", so why is it not "Dayuan's" and its called "Dayung's"? Is this racist? You are writing a language incorrectly. Futhermore, my wife is a proud interior designer, and your interior design is absolute failure. Monstrosity to my eyes, yikes. When I walk in, why is there slither of a hallway? I barely have room for me and my wife. The ginormous photo booth takes up around half the store. Are you a photo booth with boba on the side or a boba store? I dont understand? The few quarters you're making in the booth is not doing anything, maybe buy some tables for your customers? I got the green milk tea, which tasted like a normal milk tea, wasn't sure the difference but it wasn't bad. The tea was a little too sweet at first but mix it around and the sugar starts to move around and the ice starts to melt making it just right. If you're a fruit tea fan, you HAVE to try DaYung's!! DRINKS: I really love DaYung's fruit teas and how fresh and high-quality the fruits they use are. Yes, they use fresh fruits for every drink and it does make a difference! You actually get fresh fruit in every sip. I usually do 50% sweetness since fresh fruit can already be sweet and I don't like drinks that are overly sweet. I've found that 70% is the perfect sweetness for their fruit drinks. For their milk teas, 75% is usually good. Some of my fav drinks are: - Peach Green Tea (5/5!!): The peach green tea at DaYung's is AMAZINGGG. My all time fav drink at not only DaYung's but favorite fruit drink from any boba shop. The peach taste is delicious and fresh. It's blended with ice so it's half liquid and half slush texture. It's hard to describe but I love the consistency of this drink. The only sad thing is this drink is seasonal and is only available starting late spring and into late summer due to when peaches are in season. But once it's in season, it's the only thing I drink lol - Mango Green Tea (5/5): The mango green tea is my second fav and I love the taste of the real mango. It's sweet and just a little tart but the balance is perfect. It tastes different than mango green teas at other boba shops since they don't use syrup. If you're used to syrup, I promise this one is even better. It's super refreshing and satisfying. I love getting aiyu jelly with it too. - Strawberry Beauty (5/5): The strawberry beauty is strawberries blended with tea and with aiyu jelly added. If you like strawberry, you'll like this drink. The aiyu jelly is such a nice addition and it's really satisfying. DaYung's has the best aiyu jelly! I think this drink might also be seasonal lol but the other beauty drinks are also great (especially the Pink Beauty) - Lemon AiYu (5/5): My boyfriend likes the Lemon AiYu since he likes tart and sour drinks. It has a very strong lemon flavor and the aiyu jelly is a great addition for a slight sweetness. - Wintermelon Green Milk Tea w/Boba (4/5): I love wintermelon milk teas and DaYung's is also great. It's super creamy and has a great flavor. Boba is also great and very chewy. - Plum Green Tea (3/5): This is the only drink my boyfriend and I have not enjoyed too much. The plum tastes very artificial which seems off brand for them since they always use fresh fruits. It wasn't for us. Tip: They have weekly happy hour specials on drinks so check their Instagram for those deals! SERVICE: DaYung's has the best service. The employees are so nice and sweet. I like this location better than the Convoy one. They have a strong mango flavor that I could tell was made with real mango as opposed to entirely syrup. I got 50% sweet but it was definitely too sweet still. The boba topping was also not cooked well and had a tough chew to it. My friend got the pineapple green tea with lychee jelly. The pineapple flavor was ok but the lychee jelly added a lot of sweetness to the drink (also a 50%) and was overpowering the tea flavor. Overall, the drinks are pretty good but the boba was not my favorite. My biggest complaint would have to be the prices, around $7 for a tea with topping, probably one of highest in San Diego. Another great spot for boba in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch Area. Located in the same center as Trader Joe's. Their pricing is relatively higher than other boba establishments, but I guess it makes up for them using fresh ingredients. I love the fruit teas here, esp cos they don't use syrup and they also put fresh fruit inside your drink. My to go drinks here are the Pink Beauty (grapefruit based) and the Dayung's fresh fruit tea (a mix of different fruit, soooo good). I didn't really find anything special with their milk teas, so I've stuck with their fruit teas. The lemon Aiyu is also very good. This was amazing and felt pretty authentic!! There were self order kiosks. I got the tiger milk tea (70% sweetness, add boba, and I requested less ice in the comments which they did perfectly). My friend got the banana milk tea and the pineapple green tea which were all delicious as well. Great quick service and young adults were sitting and chatting at the tables.
