    spicy popcorn chicken
    Elle T.

we got a popcorn chicken which came w ranch. the flavor was good, you could rly taste the five spice. even tho we got a spicy level (which was surprisingly hot - in a good way, but we'll prob get a medium next time), the flavor still came thru. the basil was at the bottom - it wasn't whole leaves but it had a taste we liked, almost like tea. i will say some of the chicken pieces were a bit chewy, shaped long instead of bite-sized. but overall they hit the spot & we'd def come back :)

The best place for avocado shakes. They share the lot of hobby lobby so there are plenty of parking spaces available. The store is always clean and the staff are friendly. The only thing I have gotten here has been their avocado shake though. But I t is just perfect: super smooth, sweet, and freshly avocado-y! Never have any large chunks of ice in their shake, I specifically travel here just to get their avocado shake.

Has this bubble tea shop really been open under the same name and ownership for nearly 20 years? Bobalicious is tucked away in a narrow suite in the Village at Mira Mesa. I remember visiting this spot years ago, and I don't recall sugar cane drinks being part of the menu. Fresh cane stalks were on display at the service counter. Three menu screens listed the offerings... milk teas, slushies/smoothies, coffee, fruit teas, and two categories of special drinks. Oh, fries and popcorn chicken were available as token savory snacks. Between a banner posted next to the entrance and the presence of the sugar cane at the counter, I ordered a regular size CocoCane Juice which was coconut flavored sugar cane juice. The cost was $6.50, however if you wanted less ice, there was a $0.50 surcharge because more stalks would need to be extracted for additional liquid to compensate for the reduced ice level. The coconut taste wasn't as strong as I had expected, but the natural sweetness of the sugar cane was prominent. Several small tables were available for inside seating along with a couple out front on the sidewalk. I found the ambiance to be sterile, almost industrial, compared to the newer shops which proliferate every month in the SD area. Overall, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my drink and visit to Bobalicious.

    Taro cookies ($7.50): too sweet
    Grace L.

I got the taro cookies ($7.50) because it was one of the Bobalicious specials. I usually love taro, but this drink ended up being way too sweet for me. My friend got the avocado smoothie, and said that the texture was not what she had wanted. Also, the table was very sticky so it didn't make for a pleasant experience. My friend and I ended up taking our drinks to go because we didn't want to stay there.

    Sugarcane Juice, no ice.

Not a complaint, but just so everyone can take a note if they don't want the same thing that happened to me happens to them. I ordered a regular size sugarcane juice with no ice because they charge an additional $0.50 if I wanted half ice instead of full ice. And what I received was basically half a cup, not even 70%, which I've encountered before at different restaurants/shops. To me this was ridiculous. I'm sure they have their reasons; but I won't ever come back here again and nor will I wish this upon the rest of y'all either.

I have such high hopes every time I go to Bobalicious, but I'm always left disappointed. The lychee smoothie was a major letdown -- it tasted overly artificial, with barely any lychee flavor. It was mostly ice and sugary sweetness, more like a sugar bomb than the refreshing fruit drink I was craving. The honeydew smoothie wasn't any better. It lacked the creaminess and freshness I expected and instead tasted bland and watered down. Both smoothies felt like I was drinking flavored ice, rather than an actual smoothie. The service is always friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately, the quality of the drinks has really gone downhill over the past few years. I really want to love this place, but the smoothies don't cut it.

Good boba. Comfortable seating inside. Got 50% sugar. Large is quite large compared to other boba venues. Milk teas wasn't bad. Tasted a bit like it came from powder but good 4/5.

Stopped in for some dessert after dinner nearby and this place had raw sugar cane drinks, a classic Vietnamese drink. Service was quick and friendly. We took a seat inside to enjoy our drinks, atmosphere was nice and clean. Drinks were also reasonably priced as well!

Nice little neighborhood boba shop. It's open late at night and has a friendly staff. I haven't tried their food yet but their bobas are good.

Fair price and Supa tasty both drinks. Got sugarcane and matcha oreo smoothie. Recommend

    Good prices!

First time here! The sugar cane juice sign outside caught my eye, and the worker inside offered me a sample--it was delicious! Then I noticed the well-organized fruit rack inside and found out it's all used for their drinks. I ended up getting a sugar cane juice and mango smoothie, and Nathan upgraded both for free since it was my first visit. Great service and super fresh drinks. I'll definitely be back!

This place was a real disappointment. I was craving milk tea and this place was close by my home. I was surprised to see a promo for Milk Tea Mondays (free upgrade on milk tea drinks) and ordered the Oolong milk tea at 50% sweet w/ boba. Drink cost around $6.25. When the drink was given to me, it looked extremely diluted. It was pale, which you can pretty much assume there is more milk than tea in the drink. The boba was ok, it wasn't hard, but wasn't extremely soft and chewy either, and seemed like it was soaked in brown sugar so it had some flavor to it. But the drink was not bobalicious at all. When I got home, it felt like I was drinking water, with milk, and pumps of sugar. Zero tea flavor. And lots of ice in the cup to further dilute the already tasteless drink. I won't be back and don't recommend this place. Got the same drink without boba for my sis, and she agrees it just tastes like sugar. How sad.

We chose to sit down since we also wanted to try their food along with the drinks. For drinks, my husband ordered the matcha boba and I got the taro with boba. Both were really good--the flavors actually come through, not watered down or too sweet. I also really liked the texture of the ice; it was finely crushed, which made the drinks extra enjoyable. The cups themselves were also really cute and well-designed. For food, I ordered the breaded pork in teriyaki sauce with rice, which also came with three side dishes. It included pickled cucumber (which was really good), a stir-fried cabbage and carrot mix, and another stir-fried vegetable I wasn't familiar with but still enjoyed. My kids especially liked the teriyaki sauce. We also tried the chicken popcorn and my husband ordered the pork chop, which had that authentic Taiwanese bento-style taste we were hoping for. One thing I really appreciated is that they included small bowls for the kids and extra utensils without us even asking--that was a thoughtful touch and definitely a plus for me. Overall, we really enjoyed everything we ordered. The food felt authentic, the drinks were solid, and service was fast. We're definitely planning to come back again with the whole family.

Perfectly less-sugary for those with a light palate. The tea is tasty as well - peach oolong milk tea with peach jelly and winter melon jelly had that smooth, fragrant and well-balanced blend of creamy and light. Very satisfied with the flavor and consistency. This minimal and approachable cafe does have wifi and there is one slimmer table that offers an outlet. Between my own drinks and drinks for family members, I would typically spend anywhere from $10 to $25 per day here. Unfortunately, the quality has become very inconsistent. Sometimes the drinks are great, but recently the boba has been terrible. For the last three days, the boba has been burnt, hard, and crispy. It feels like the same batch is being left out all day and served long after it should have been replaced. Yesterday, I ordered three drinks through DoorDash. I understand that ordering through a delivery service costs more, but I pay the extra charge because it saves time. One of the teas was ordered without ice because I have a one-hour commute home and didn't want watered-down tea. When I got home, I found that the cup was barely over half full. I know DoorDash includes a disclaimer that drinks without ice may not be filled to the top, but we're talking about tea here. Filling the cup properly would have cost very little, and receiving a drink that was less than three-quarters full felt like a slap in the face. Today, I decided to give them one last chance and ordered another drink online during my lunch break. Again, I paid extra for the convenience of ordering ahead because I don't have time to stand in line and wait. When I arrived at 11:30, I was told the boba wasn't ready yet. Not only did I not get what I ordered and paid for, but I ended up waiting while other customers were served. I had to return to work late, frustrated, and stuck with a tea without boba that I had overpaid for. After spending a significant amount of money here over time, I'm disappointed to say they've lost a loyal customer. Consistent quality and better customer service would go a long way.

I…read moreremember it being a Rita's Italian Ice at one point, then a bubble waffle shop, and now it's BoBaPoP Tea Bar. Honestly, boba fits the area way better now, especially since more tea spots have been popping up around here. I stopped in for a quick drink and there was a steady flow of people coming in and out, which is always a good sign. Inside is clean and modern, very simple but put together. You can order at a kiosk or go up to the cashier, which makes it easy depending on what you prefer. The menu has a solid variety. All your usual milk teas, fruit teas, slushies, and blended drinks, plus a good amount of toppings. They were also advertising a matcha ice spinner which caught my attention, so I'll probably come back to try that and see how their matcha quality is. I went with a mango fruit tea at 75% sweetness and added boba. I sat outside while waiting, they have limited indoor seating but a couple tables outside which is nice. The drink came out in about five minutes, so pretty quick. First thing I noticed was there were actual mango pieces in the drink, not just syrup. That was a nice surprise and added a good texture. They were soft enough to go through the straw too, so it didn't feel annoying to drink. Flavor wise, I do wish I went lower on the sweetness. Even at 75% it was still a bit too sweet for me, but that's more personal preference. The part that didn't really hit was the boba. It was a little mushy and didn't have that chewy texture I usually look for. It also had this slightly artificial honey taste that kind of overpowered the drink a bit. Not terrible, just not my favorite. It's a solid and convenient spot for the area. Good variety, quick service, and a nice setup. I'd come back, but probably switch up the toppings next time.
