Me and my daughters love this location, until we encounter a rude worker name Alexa. My order was first but wasn't true to my time. She place two costumers in-front of my Order and my order was delay. She then proceed to slam things around, especially when I requested easy ice in my drink. I did confronted her and told her if there was a problem? She said no but with an attitude. Never again am stepping foot inside that place and I will be complaining to the manager so it won't occur again to another consumer. read more

The cup was sealed so tight that when my friend grabbed it it busted. The side of the cup cracked. The drink started spilling everywhere. We asked the girl for an extra cup and she acted like she didnt hear and started cleaning the mess. I asked her if we could get another one and she said no. And I said that he hadn't even put his straw in, he literally just had the cup in his hand. And she said no. I bought my friend another drink and no discount either. Never again in this place. I came with friends and ordered a Jasmin tea with rainbow jelly. They made a Jasmin milk tea. When I told them I didn't order a milk tea but a Jasmin tea only they said it's always "assumed" all drinks are milk tea. I told them I cannot have milk and she said sorry we don't remake any drink. In front of all my friends! And they didn't accept they made a mistake!! I left te drink there since I cannot have any milk and they didn't care! I will never come back. This was one of the first boba places to open in Downey. I remember it was the early 2000s and most people didn't even know what boba was. You'd have to drive to a predominantly Asian community to get some boba like Cerritos or Monterey Park. This Boba Loca came to Downey sometime around 2005-2007. I'm obviously not sure because even when this Boba Loca did come to Downey, I already knew it would be on the lower end of boba because of being a franchise with a hispanic fusion name. Loca is crazy in Spanish in case you didn't know. So it was rare when I went to Boba Loca and it was only due to convenience of location that I ever went here. They have slush, milk teas, smoothies, milkshakes. They even have an oreo milkshake (Asian boba places don't usually have oreo milkshakes) and frappes. Not only do they have boba to put into drinks but also jellies. Nowadays they have shave ice and a freezer with ice cream macaron sandwiches that are tiny and not made in house. The drinks are okay and not worth the price that they sell them for. It's not great quality boba drinks yet they sell them for the same price that great quality boba drinks are sold at. The only reason they do this is probably because Boba Loca is a staple for boba in the area. People either don't know good boba or don't want to make the drive out just for good quality boba. When I say great quality boba drinks I mean drinks that are made with real fruit and brewed tea, not powder (I'm 99% most of Boba Loca drinks are powder based except maaaaybe the frappes and milkshakes). So save your money and find a better boba place with higher quality drinks. read more

WATRED DOWN DRINKS! I've been coming here for years but since they hired new staff the quality of the drinks have dropped. I've given them the benefit of the doubt but I've gone 2 times in the last two months and both times my drinks have been super watered down! The customer drive was fine for me. Sold bubble tea spot with a variety of other drinks/smoothies. Cute little clean place. They have popping boba (not all bubble tea places do) so that's why I came here, I don't like tapioca pearls. I got a green apple fusion tea with passion fruit popping boba. Just be careful when putting your straw in the cup because I totally destroyed my cup and it leaked all over. Great customer service and a clean shop. I loved the use of the colors of this place and that toppings can be added for free. We had the House Special shaved ice today (there are only two options-- House Special or Mango) which was generous in portion and made the best out of its frozen/canned fruit ingredients. $7 after tax, which is a decent bargain as well. Ice was slightly chunky but acceptable. For the given location in Downey, I think it's a local gem. Nothing to be thrilled about, but definitely an honest shop that serves with a smile! read more

I went as soon as they opened and got a lavender milk tea. I do not recommend coming here at all due to how upset I was with my drink. The boba itself wasn't my favorite and the tea itself did have any sweetness or flavor to it, it just didn't seem fresh. Always received excellent service at this location this is by far the best Boba you're going to find in the Downey and surrounding area. Alex is very friendly the head cashier there and the owner is very sweet I'm just really sad they're getting rid of the red been milk tea. I've loved their other teas like tapioca and Thai tea! Very fresh and good quality. I Do miss their stamp card that was always a nice treat, they don't implement one anymore. All good things for this location it's super cute inside as well! This bobaloca is small but it's cozy and cool. I had a fusion tea and it was pretty refreshing. The boba was cooked perfectly and the cashiers were friendly. They also sell small Japanese snacks and drinks like Ramune. Everything was clean, except the pillows that were in the back. Overall I was pleased. read more

I ALWAYS come to this place and my daily order is a mango milkshake. The new girl with the green pony tail and glasses told me they don't have it anymore and she'll charge me extra to make it. I told her if she was sure and she started laughing giving me smarts as answers trying to make me feel like an idiot. I felt so disrespected as a loyal customer. I then told her we'll give me a caramel frap and she said "that's not a milkshake that's a frap" I told her I knew that, that's why I asked for it and she was like oh because you were asking for the milkshakes. $3.95 for the regular Mango Smoothie with Boba PLUS $0.40 PROCESSING FEE if you use a card.... When you come to a place like this there isn't much to say really unless the product is bad. My Mango Smoothie was actually good! The mango does taste artificial but I really doubt that there is any Boba place out there that uses much fresh mango. Correct me if I am wrong. Sometimes, some places serve you the boba with too much of the syrup or water they keep it in - yuck! When that happens the drink gets diluted. Not here! The place looks nice inside and they have a big screen that shows pix of some of their customers which is cool. Great service sometimes, but you often get kids behind the counter that don't really know what good service is. Their PROCESSING FEE IS LAME THOUGH! Plus other places have cuter cups and the film they use to seal the drink also has cute designs - not here :( Their lot is pretty small but I have always found parking. Beware, this location is on a busy, busy, busy major corner and it is hard to get out of the lot depending on the time of day. Basically you can only make a right turn sometimes at the corner since you can only get the lane nearest the block. Otherwise, you have to go towards the CVS where there is still a lot of traffic and often the traffic forces you to turn right towards West Downey. Sometimes it is impossible to get to the far left lane to go to East Downey. TOTAL OF $4.35 THANKS TO PROCESSING FEE :( UGH!!!! read more

The Thai Tea was marginal and the service could have been better. I walked in on a conversation by whom I think was the owner and maybe a maintenance man? and I had to wait until there convo was done while they both stared at me before I could order my drink. My order is simple Large Thai Iced Tea with Boba. I shouldnt have to explain myself much after that but she kept saying Thai Milk Tea. Apparently in the City of Angeles the drinks are named differantly because everyone knows Thai Tea already has Condensed milk in it. I was annoyed I just told her yes and hoped for the best. The Boba wasnt fully cooked you could taste some of the grain but it was bad. Because its right by my inlaws house I will try it again! read more

I've been soooo spoiled by the boba places in NorCal. Fresh teas with such higher quality ingredients. Boba Loca is definitely not my first choice in SoCal. But it was convenient, so my friends and I decided to stop by. First, this location is small. Not great for big groups, but there is a decent amount of seating inside. Second, the AC was on full blast when we came on a Friday night. It was chilly, which made sitting inside a little uncomfortable. But maybe they don't put it on like that regularly? Boba Loca's selection isn't super huge, but they have milk teas, frappes, slushes, and hot teas to choose from. I decided on the chai tea frappe with a little whipped cream on top. When we got the drink, it had a lot of whipped cream. Definitely more then "a little" but oh well. I can take it off. Chai tea frappe was uber sweet. You can't customize the sugar level here. It only had a light chai taste, with the rest being sugar and cream. The consistency of the drink was blended perfectly though, not too watery. Boba Loca is a-ok, although I'd still prefer places with fresher ingredients. read more
