Great. They paid for my Uber to get home. Very great etiquette on the phone. I called, they knew my name from caller ID and since I had been there before they had my vehicle info up and the info they needed right away. They made a mistake and put in an amber light bulb instead of clear one time and they were great with correcting the mistake. The only negative I have to report on them is the following. I've known I had some car problems such as oil leaks etc... its an old car. My car was in for a coolant leak and they apparently did a full inspection to find that the issue was the water pump and they didn't say anything of any other issues. My car died a 2-3 weeks later due to a bad alternator and the that time my car was in they tried to up-sell me on so many repairs that they did not catch the first visit and that I knew existed well before my first visit. This makes me wonder how trustworthy they actually are. I emailed back to one of the surveys asking why they didn't catch all the issues the first time but did on the second and I never got a response. read more

I knew when my registration was due but didn't look and see that I needed a smog check. I wanted to get it done and receive my tags on time which meant not going to my normal location. I yelped smog places and Chapman Auto Repair came up. I'm glad it did! I called and received a same day appointment. When I came in Alan greeted me. He got my paperwork started and they took my car to get smogged. I was lucky they had a deal for the smog check. There was popcorn, water and coffee available while I waited as well as a comfy couch. I didn't have much time to enjoy it because within 20 minutes everything was done. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. I'm a fan and am recommending this place to all my friends. Never wanted to leave a review for this place, but thinking about it now I shouldn't have waited so long to express my experience. This dates back a few years ago now. Originally I brought in my Infiniti QX4 and they did the job that I was expecting for the price. With that experience I considered bringing in my Nissan Sentra (I had previously had the Nissan dealership do an inspection of repairs needed). They found everything the Nissan dealership had found as well. Quoted me around 3k or so for the work which was decent. I agreed and they did the work (think tune up, strut replacements, breaks and rotors, etc.). One of the main issue was that the valve cover was leaking oil (that ultimately ruined the car). They replaced it and for about a week after having it everything was fine. Then the oil leak came back, and not only that I was losing power. RPMs would sit between 0-1 but closer to 0 while idle. This had never been a problem for the car ever. The car was still under 100K miles. Chapman Auto were the last to do any major work on my car at the time. Of course I reviewed everything that was done to the car. Looked at the valve cover and the leak it previously had was still present. As for the low RPMs I checked the air filter, and found an old towel at the bottom after removing and replacing the air filter. I'm assuming one of their technicians left it unknowingly. Honest mistake I guess, so I just removed the towel to see if that was the issue. I was still losing power and the car couldn't stay on because of how low the RPMs would hit. Called and they took it back in. Told them it was still leaking oil from the valve cover area (again), and that my RPMs were sitting low when idle that it would eventually just turn off. They returned the car back and said they had bought the wrong valve cover when they replaced it. Assuming they're returning it because they fixed the error they had made. Was able to drive it back, and upon review what was done I found some dishonest work. The valve cover was the same one they had put on (that was the wrong year for the car), and they had completely stripped the screws that hold it in place to what I'm guessing they thought would keep the leak from returning, and also put some kind of sealant to prevent it from leaking as well. I forget the owners name (John I believe). He would send out text message periodically with template style quick picks asking how everything was going or that it had been a while since I had been back. I decided to reply back to these generic messages, and told him about my experience along with a video of what his technicians had done to "fix" the leak. Of course I didn't receive a reply, because it was just generic marketing to portray a caring owner, at which point I decided that this family owned business had the corporate characteristics I so strongly dislike. Never returned, never bothered to get this fixed (by Chapman Auto), and ultimately the car was ruined due to a poorly executed job. I left 2 stars because I want to believe this owner had good intent, but the lack of response and dishonesty by his representatives turned me away. This is probably one of the best auto repair shops I have been too. They are very polite and hospitable. While I was getting work done to my car the gentlemen here and I talked for minutes at a time. I know even when you're like me and are new to the area and are looking for a legit auto repair shop THIS IS THE PLACE. Even if you don't want to wait here for your car because (you're time is precious) they have a shuttle service for you. The driver Wesley is quite the man. He taught me that Orange County used to be a huge Orange Grove as well as Fruit fruits and such.. he also knows short cuts if you didn't want to take the freeway.. before I go off topic I am just blown away by the service here, auto and customer service, they do such an excellent job. I wanted to like this place, but feel COMPLETELY scammed. I've gotten a few oil changes done here and it went pretty seamless. They give you a full report on your car each time and let you know the condition each part is in (spark plugs, air filters, battery, wipers, etc). During a previous oil change, they told me I needed a brake fluid flush & new battery and quoted me almost $700! I paid it and didn't call around for quotes thinking they weren't scamming me... Fast forward to a few days ago. I brought it in for an oil change and they wanted to charge me another $700 to change my spark plugs and alternator belt. It was crazy to me how much work had to be done each time and how expensive it was. I never had this happen even when I was taking my car to my dealership. I called around (3 places) and was quoted for $300-$350! Super upset they would do this, especially being a female college student. I wish I read some of the other reviews on here. I am making sure to tell everyone I know NOT to come here. read more

Get a second opinion. About a year ago I brought my car here because my car felt like it was slipping and losing power at lower speeds ... like it was a shiftstick with a busted clutch, even though it's an automatic. My OBD scanner indicated an error code related to a misfire on my 2nd cylinder/piston. After inspecting it, they diagnosed it as being a gunked up crank shaft and said it'd be about $2000 to disassemble my engine and clean it out. Not knowing what I didn't know, I said okay and got it back a few days later. I mentioned this story to a mechanic at Costco of all places when I was getting my tires replaced a few months ago. He laughed and said "No way. That's spark plugs or your coils." Yesterday the precise same thing happened to the car: the car lurched up to about 35mph and the scanner indicated a piston misfire. As I don't have $2000 free at the moment, I spent $40 on spark plugs and replaced them myself (which, though I've not done before, turned out to be about as easy as replacing a light bulb). That didn't fix it, so I bought a $30 ignition coil for cylinder 2 ... which also turned out to be super easy to replace myself. Voilà! The car was as good as new. I don't know what I don't know about what Chapman Auto Repair really did to my car a year ago, but I do know that I solved a problem for the exact same ODB error code for $80 which they charged me $2k to fix. Note to self: never spend big money on a problem without getting a second opinion first. read more

I've heard about the excellent service provided by Chapman Auto Repair for typical services (oil change, smog check, etc) and since the location was conveniently located, I thought I'd stop by.I was assisted right away and the whole process (from check in to labor of the job) look just under 20 minutes which really is unheard of anywhere. I've been to a few different places in Orange, but I always felt like I was getting burned. So when I had enough of the noise my car was making, I searched for the best place in Orange and the reviews led me to Chapman Auto Repair of Orange. I didn't know exactly was wrong, other than the fact that I definitely needed a smog check and oil change. Kennyard was the one helping me out all along the way and I don't think he could have been any better. He asked great questions to try to understand the issues I was describing. He price matched the oil change and I feel that for all the work that was done, I got a pretty good deal. This shop takes pictures of the areas they recommend for repair and they rank the issues by priority in a report that they share with you. I have yet to see this anywhere else I've been, so that really sold me on this place. They did accidentally order the wrong part which prolonged the repair time by one day, but to make up for it, Kennyard gave me a $50 gift certificate to go towards the remaining repair recommendations. Even without the gift certificate, I appreciate how honest he was. There were never any excuses or attempts to sell me anything that I didn't need. I would never write this if I wasn't actually ecstatic about how everything went. I'll definitely be back! read more

2 stars because they wrapped my steering wheel in plastic due to COVID. If not for that, would've been 1 star. I'm extremely disappointed in how this place does business. I brought my car in for a star certified smog check, since my normal repair place doesn't do them. I asked them to rotate my tires and change the oil as well. A couple hours after I dropped my car off, someone called me from Chapman Auto Repair of Orange and immediately asked me if I was the right one to be speaking to, or "if I should call your Dad." How unprofessional and cringe-worthy. I immediately felt as if I was being talked down to as a young woman, and it set off so many red flags that were confirmed based on my later interactions with this employee. He explained that I needed $2400 of repairs done to my car, including replacing my spark plugs, four wheel alignment, transmission fluid exchange, brake fluid flush, and full fuel induction service. I had ALL of these services done within the last year. I began to ask questions about everything, but was met with snippy responses, including, "You don't want to have to go through the trouble of buying a new car right now. This is easier." which furthers my point that this man looked down on me as a young woman who *apparently* knows nothing. He launched into a financing program for these repairs and would not let me get a word in that I was not interested. Overall an incredibly frustrating phone call. Unfortunately, they already had changed my oil and rotated my tires, or I wouldn't have given them a cent over the smog test. When I came back in to retrieve my car, the employee said how "nice it is to speak to a young woman who knows a little bit about cars." If my blood wasn't already boiling from interactions with this guy, it certainly was then. I'm positive I'm not the only woman who has almost been (or has been) scammed by this shady place -- and other reviews confirm this. If you have to point out a young woman who stands up for herself, however casually, how many other young women have not stood up for themselves, and were taken advantage of with your unnecessary services and questionable language? I brought my car to my usual mechanic, who charged me $900 for the necessary repairs to my car, and said that many of the suggested repairs by this place were completely unnecessary. In addition, for every single service that I ACTUALLY needed (a minority of the estimate), Chapman Auto charged significantly more for both parts AND labor. I will never be visiting Chapman Auto again and highly suggest you take your business elsewhere. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! I took my truck a week ago to Chapman Auto Repair of Orange for an oil change and to replace a serpentine belt. My truck was not leaking oil and the repair shop said my oil pan was leaking oil and they recommended I change the oil pan gasket. I declined this repair and a few days after coming home it began leaking oil in my driveway. I got underneath and noticed that the drain bolt to the oil pan was loose and was leaking oil from that spot. These guys are Crooks and I believe they purposely left the drain bolt loose so it could leak oil. read more

I took my Honda Element to Chapman Auto Repair because it was overheating. I opened a $1600 line of credit to repair what was on their diagnosis only to experience overheating in my car 1 week later. When I returned to their shop today Alex quickly diagnosed the problem due to my fans not spinning, and said the problem wasn't happening when the car came into the shop or when I left, because it's part of their test. I think this was a lie to save their reputation because I knew the fans were not spinning during idling while the AC was on when my car overheated the first time. I believe Chapman Auto Repair was negligent in their diagnosis, and cares more about saving face than their customer care. I won't return here and this issue should have been fixed as a priority/urgent diagnosis. I truly feel swindled into paying for repairs that had nothing to do with the real problem I came in for, which was preventing my car from overheating. read more
