I used Chapman Auto for years because they were close to me, they were knowledgeable, and they were fair. It was sold recently, but I went there based on prior dealings. Recently they charged me $220 just to do an OBD II computer check on my Check Engine Light. As I was walking back to work, I stopped in at another Auto Repair Shop, and they only charge $75 for the Diagnostic. The change of ownership has apparently (significantly) increased prices to cover the purchase. read more

I drive a BMW SUV and my key fob has been signaling that I needed a new battery for quite some time, but I live quite a distance from my dealership. Today, while I was in Orange for an appointment, I asked Siri for a BMW spot nearby and she gave me Chapman Auto Repair. When I called they explained that they were not a dealership, but repair BMW's. I told them what I needed and they said they carried some batteries and so since they were only a mile or so away, I went to check them out. I found a nice little luxury car repair shop that I wish was closer to the high desert; I would definitely use them as they were professional, had 4+car bays and very nice technicians. They found a replacement for my battery and didn't even charge me. All the Senior Advisor asked is if I were a Yelper, would I leave a review. I told him I was and yes, I would. I came to this auto shop because it had really good rating. Even though they did a great job finding out what was wrong with my vehicle. They left a lot of part disassembled and didn't bother checking before returning the vehicle. Also the price for maintenance was a bit steep for them to leave my car disassembled. I was also not compensated nor given a discount for having to bring back my vehicle twice because someone of the missing parts they could not find and had to purchase from Honda. I don't know if I would return here knowing that they did half the job but asked for full price. read more

This place is a total rip off, I brought in y car for a brake inspection. They charge me $450 dollars for it they DID NOTHING! they argue that the total repair cost would be $4000, they said that the part alone cost $2000. I decided to get get my car inspected at the dealer they charge me $210 for the same exact check up. Total cost at the dealer was suppose to be around $3500, even cheaper by better warranty. BTW I ask how much is the part to be replace, it only cost $1000 not $2000 as quoted at this shop. Finally, I got the part from a repair shop that specializes on brakes and ABS modules for $160 paid a mechanic only $150 for labor plus $210 at the dealer to make sure everything was working property and it was done. I went to the auto shop on Saturday to have my TPMS warning checked and my signal light replaced. The staff quickly diagnosed the issues and provided me with a quote right away. I responded that I did, but never heard back (again). I also tried calling during posted business hours but couldn't get anyone on the phone. I received a quote with confirmed flat rate to perform lubrication on a 5th gen 4Runner propeller shaft. Awesome response from them through Yelp. Unfortunately, when I showed up, I was met with reluctance to carry out the service as they stated that there are no zerk fittings on my vehicle without looking at it nor providing any source information to support their statement. At the end of the day, I'm glad they did not touch my car. I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone with a lack of understanding and lack of effort to look up factual vehicle manuals to confirm that it is in fact a serviceable item. Update review do not go to Firestone. They're a rip off as well. Wouldn't trust neither one of them. They said everything was fine. The Freon was empty. They said they tested it for leaks and it was leaking all over. They didn't put any dye in the system to check for leaks Fixed it at Becker tire for 200 bucks been working great ever since it was empty no Freon. read more

Every time I went there, the cost escalated each time with some "issues" I did not comprehend. The service was rude and irrelevant by staff. I've been a loyal customer at this shop for over two years and have brought my car in for regular oil changes and two major repairs. Until recently, I felt confident in their work and service. However, during my most recent visit, I was extremely disappointed. I had my mother drop off my car for me, and Kennyard -- who has helped me in the past --insisted to her that the $120 diagnostic fee was a non-negotiable despite to hefty price-tag for the repair. Historically, that fee was either waived or applied toward the final bill when the work was done, which in this case it was not. The repair ended up costing over $1,300, and was completed in a timely manner which was very much appreciated. There's no doubt they do excellent work, but the principle of the matter is I have never had to pay a diagnostic fee when completing the service recommended at any auto shop. Because of this I no longer feel comfortable bringing my car here and won't be returning. I hope others take this into consideration when they are considering where to complete their auto repairs on their vehicle. read more

We were greeted by Alan, who immediately heard our concerns and called in one of their mechanics, Jesse. We explained our concerns with our vehicle, not knowing if it was something that we needed to worry about but Jesse was more than willing to take a look and quickly offered his service. While the car concern we had didn't affect the function of the car (yet), the team's attention to detail made us feel extremely taken care of. I came in trying to diagnose a whirling nose coming from the underside of my 2002 Montero. They told me the car has too many noises for them to find the one and I need to come in and do a ride along to point out the noise. I don't have time to do a ride along and I've never had a mechanic ask me to basically do their job because there are "too many noises". It's an old car... of course there's noises. I ended up just picking the car up because they refused to do anything or even diagnose all the noises. Absolutely would not recommend. read more

Chapman Auto repair in Orange handles all aspects of auto service from oil change and much much more! Having 2 cars that are over 100k, we've been using them for last few years. It's close to the house, they are quick, really responsive and the guys at the front are nice & know all about ins & outs of auto repair. Oh and their lobby popcorn is really good too! Their price is 10-15% higher than the other shops around but been going to them as they entice you with the coupons to come back. Well, I'm looking for a new shop as Chapman Auto repair charged me $120 for diagnostic even I did the repair there. Repair was over $1k mind you. After I mentioned I was being over charged by paying for the diagnostic, they gave me a coupon for $120 for next time. There won't be a next time so that was just waste of paper. They tried to give me referral coupons for my friends and family, I refused as I felt I got scammed. Unfortunately, Chapman Auto Repair lost a customer for their dishonest business practice. What repair shop charges the customer for diagnostic when I did the repair there? Them charging $120 just lost $1k+ of other repairs I was going to have it done at Chapman Auto Repair. I will miss the popcorn but looking forward finding a honest and fair auto repair shop in Orange....is it out there? I will let you know when I find it! read more
