The bad news -why haven't I been coming here for the past 25 years? The good news - I came here yesterday :) I'm not sure why we have never eaten here but after visiting the museum yesterday afternoon we decided to check it out. We had called previously, enquiring about Easter and the gentleman on the phone was exceptionally friendly so it left a good impression. Upon calling on our way to the museum the same (I think) gentleman answered and could not have been nicer. He was very accommodating and friendly as was our server, Rachael. The young man who delivered our food as well as the young lady who pointed me in the direction of the bathroom were also very nice. For me, this is a huge part of the overall dining experience . The food was also outstanding. We shared a beautiful shrimp salad appetizer and both had the 8 oz filet (they were actually more like 10 or 12 ounces). I had a wonderful mixed green salad as my side while my husband opted for the fries (I didn't try them because I needed my valuable stomach room to devour the incredible steak I was served but my husband said they were as good as McDonalds.... Which all rational, honest, and unpretentious people know is the fry benchmark). We took an excellent cheesecake to go because I was insanely full. We enjoyed it later on. I would have attached pictures but I was too busy eating my perfectly cooked beautifully charred steak. Maybe next time :). read more

Visiting out east for the weekend. Disappointed is an understatement - service and restaurant were fine. The food was awful for a place with a reputation and these prices. My wife's filet was dry charred and just not good. Escarole was also not very good. Linguini shrimp scampi was just ok - But on a positive note the Caesar salad was good. read more

We've been fans of Bobby Vans for decades. Always loved the food, the drinks, & the vibe. Because of the pandemic we hadn't had the opportunity to patronize the resturant for quite a while. We returned in August & dined outdoors for lunch. I ordered a medium rare burger that came out well done. My wife & I were in a the midst of a wonderful day so rather then ruin the mood I ate it. Awful! Like eating charcoal. She enjoyed her salad though Our friends suggested we dine there Sat night. I had trepidations because of my last experience as well as other recent yelp reviews. The meal was EXCELLENT!!!! Oddly enough, no one had steak. My friend had chicken pot pie that had huge strips of chicken. Loved it. Both of our wives had the ribs which have always been a can't miss dish. I stepped out of my comfort zone. I had hash. Yes, hash. It had huge pieces of lobster & fillet mignon surrounded by potatoes & vegetables topped with fried eggs. It sound hideous but it was one of the most flavorful meals I've ever eaten..... there or anywhere. The service was spot on. Would have been better if the staff wore masks but why sour the review. (Waiter said he was triple vaxxed) If I was able I'd deduct a 1/2 star for mask ignorance but everyone has different comfort levels. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. it was inedible as the cut of chicken was not right for sandwiches and the breading was mush. the fries were over cooked to the point of no potato, just a fried shell. it made me sad. I would have ordered something else but our server never came over to ask how everything was. go somewhere else! read more

Went there on a Wednesday afternoon 3 of us about 2:30, it wasn't crowded or busy at all. We got seated and given menus. I asked if they had any lunch specials and he said to ask the waiter when he comes over. So the waiter comes over, offers us water, I decline, so did one other sister. He asked if we wanted a drink, I said not yet. He leaves. Never to return! we sat there for a while just waiting for the waiter to come back. The host knew as he was sitting at the bar on his phone, and did nothing. So after what seemed an eternity, we got up and left! I told the host that the waiter was rude for letting us sit there when he had nothing else going on. Not going back there again. read more

This was our first time here. They were super accommodating about our outdoor seating request. I highly recommend the French dip. The meat was cooked perfectly and the grilled onions the perfect topper. Salad dressing was amazing as well. Staff and server were gracious and polite. Overall will definitely be back. read more

I have driven by Bobby Van's multiple times but lacked any enthusiasm to return after the nasty lobster. Will give them another try to experience a real five star lobster roll à la Bobby Van., but only with a make up for my dismal experience with a comp or gift card, and would e happy update my review.. the memory of chomping down on a large piece of hard lobster cartilage in a puny uninteresting lobster roll was just that gross! As wonderful a waiter Carlos was, he really should have tried to make things right when we pointed out the very disappointing lobster roll to him. read more

Sadly, after 26 years we are leaving Bridgehampton. Confession, almost never ate here, wife with the JULIETS did every other week while I with the ROMEOs ate at the Corner Bar in Sag Harbor. Every Thursday for most of that time I ate at Candy Kitchen next door with the CAUCUS. Had maybe my last lunch with that group at Bobby Van. Had the best Reuben sandwich (equal to Tweeds in Riverhead) and the other two items ordered by friends were equally good. Prices were comparable to Candy Kitchen. read more

We have been going to Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton as well as Manhattan for years. We like both venues and love the food at both locations. Not the least expensive but usually well worth it. Since I tend bar at two Restuarant's we prefer to sit at the bar and chat up the bar tender as well as meet ok'd and new friends. Our favorite lunch item there is the French Dip which is made differently compared to many but super as well as their thin cut fries. We are hoping that the off season Happy Hour will come back but are fine paying full price to enjoy the place. So today we decided it was time for a lunch at the Bridgehampton location. Now for why I posted so much positive to now turn negative. We arrived and walked up to the bar where there were 6 opeb seats. 2 of which were being held by one person for two other people that had not yet arrived. I understand this but don't like it and that is why so many Restuarant's require that everyone in a party be there before being seated. But then there were 4 individual seats open that could have had one of only 4 patrons move one seat over to allow us to be accommodated. The bar tender on duty who appears to be new as I have never seen him before stood there with his hands on his hips and said nothing. One patron declined to love when asked nicely by me if he would and still the bar tender did not say anything to the other people that could have help us get two Sears together. I regularly do this where I bar tend and always buy a drink for who ever moves to help me. So we left. We drink when having lunch out and run up good size tabs. The Restuarant lost two paying lunches and the bar tender lost a significant tip because as a bartender and especially during COVID recovery we normally eat over tip. After a little Google searching and a 8 mile drive we had got our French Dip at another Restuarant, (though not as good) and our money. read more

I love Bobby Van's! The staff is always super friendly and attentive. The food is always fresh and yummy They offer inside and outside dining. They have heat lamps set up by each table and thick cozy blankets on each chair outside. The staff is really good with sanitizing the table after each party. This is my first review in a long time. I had to address this and save others from a big bill and subpar food. Been there quite a few times early in the season hoping that the food would get better and maybe It was a bad day in the kitchen. But, after too many tries, i've given up. This time around, the salmon was fishy and returned for the chicken paillard which is thick and greasy. The filet mignon was way under cooked and just didn't taste right. They flashed it and brought it back but the taste was wrong. The meat quality was horrible. I asked the busboy to take it away and he saw that I ate 3 bites. The waiter and the maitre were talking in the corner looking at me. They knew the steak was not up to snuff but choose not to address. I guess the price was worth losing a customer who spends a lot going out for dinner often. I decided that this was my last visit and did not bother to address. I have to say that this BV's is the most overrated restaurant in all of the Hamptons. The food is a 6-7 at best. Many many places in Bridge, East, Amagansett and Sag that are worth the time and money and care about the food, presentation and customer. Don't get caught up with the name. Had a delicious dinner here! I ordered the beet salad which was excellent! A great appetizer. The baby back ribs dish was great as well! The onion rings that came with the dish were literally to die for. The ribs had a great sauce and they give a large portion, except there were a lot of parts of it that were fatty. Service was great! I never ever review but I had to this time! We went out as a new family of 4. We put in an order of chicken fingers and fries for my son the second we sat down. When they came out several minutes late, they were RAW! My husband and I ordered a porterhouse for 2 and some sides. The cream spinach was cold- needed to be replaced. The broccoli was burnt (we ordered with garlic and oil- also needed to be replaced). My husband barely had any steak. The carrots were decent. All they took off of the bill was a creamed spinach. Most of the meal wasn't even touched and didn't even send over a manager to talk/make it right. My husband worst meal he has ever had!! read more

Inexplicable policy that the only item you can order from the bar menu when you're seated at a table is the burger. Our waiter actually apologized for this, stating he had actually just been yelled at for violating this policy. I mean really wtf?? Still here so we'll see how the rest of the meal goes, but seriously this chef should be fired. There's no reason for this attitude. Ok upgrading to 3 stars because the burgers, from the contentious bar menu, were actually excellent. Credit where credit is due. Now pls just make the rest of the bar menu available in the dining room. Happy to report now that meal is done that burgers were hearty and good. Clams casino were a meager portion, but had a good flavor. Still "bad taste in my mouth" about the ridiculous bar menu policy. Bobby Van's pre fixe and weekly specials draw me back all the time. Their crab / avocado salad is fantastic and large (I split it with my wife). The prime rib is second to none. Worst meal I've ever had. Not only did it take over 2 hours.. (which would be ok if it was good).. but the surf and turf was a disgrace. The lobster was rock hard and so over cooked and old. Very obvious it has been sitting under a heat lamp for 45-60 minutes. Then the steak was not only raw (I ordered it medium) but it had no juices coming out which was an obvious sign it was old meat. We had our hopes up because the menu looked great and it seemed packed with people. It was just for show. Only positive I can say is the waiter was nice but that doesn't go much further from that. I wish I could give BV's 5 star- but it wasn't warranted. It started with the hostess who let me stand awkwardly alone for about 10 seconds while she wrapped up her texting session. This wasn't a clueless teenaged hostess, this was a grown woman with her head buried in her phone. Your job us to greet people. Put the phone away. After a drink at the bar we sat, service was prompt. A slight attitude when requested cheese on side, but she recovered. So we went with a classic Caesar salad and the porterhouse for two. The crisp, whole leaves of romaine tossed in a tangy, salty dressing didn't appear. Instead it was over chopped, disproportionately dressed, and some edges were actually browning. The porterhouse for 2 was delicious. Beautiful char on the outside, medium rare on the inside. Plenty of jus to spoon over the meat. Mayyybe a pinch of salt. One of the worst lunches I've ever had (taste-wise). I ordered the 'special' for lunch ... which was a $16 Rueben Sandwich. Owch ... a bit pricey for a sandwich. Sure, even in the off season restaurants can justify $17 small cheese pizzas (World Pie) or $24 Shrimp Salads (Pierre's) by saying, 'what do you expect? It's the Hamptons?' But in the off-summer months paying the same price for a sandwich in an empty restaurant in Bridgehampton as the Carnegie Deli in the city is kind of lame. This Rueben may have been one of the worst things I ever ate. Normally a Rueben sandwich is my ultimate comfort food even Denny's would have to work hard to screw it up. At Bobby Van's, the bread was not toasted ... it was pretty much fresh out of the plastic supermaket bag rye bread Slapped onto the sandwich at the last minute. How lazy do you have to be in an empty restaurant to not make the sandwich in a pan. Clearly the sandwich ingredients were MICROWAVED and then placed into bagged bread. UNFORGIVABLE! The corned beef was about 3 or 4 slices of the thick sliced supermarket 'I'll take a half a pound of generic corned beef, please'. When I am ANYWHERE in New York and order a Rueben, I expect a GOOD rueben. I don't care if I am in White Plains or Lake Placid. If you are a New York restaurant, it should be against the law for you to serve a bad Rueben. Seriously. Not only was this terrible supermarket deli style corned beef so loaded with gristle and fat, I had to stop chewing and spit giant pieces of fat into the napkin 3 TIMES while eating the sandwich! (and this was not a big sandwich). The corned beef was so overcooked and dry in spots, I would consider it more of the bacon variety than a deli meat. It seriously crunched on the edges when I chewed it. This clearly points to the inner filling of the sandwich being microwaved or sloppily pan fried. The swiss was cheap ... bearly even tasted like cheese. It was also bearly melted.There was some obligatory lukewarm sour kraut falling out of the edges of the sandwich. And there was what I can only guess to be cheap bottled salad dressing slathered COLD on the top untoasted piece of bread. (the kind of tasteless salad dressing you squirt out of a plastic packet when you buy a salad at the grocery store). Even if I got a sandwich this bad at Denny's for $7, I would be pissed. But to charge $16 for this generic creation of blandness and fatty, poorly cooked cold cut is criminal. If an establishment that is supposedly noted as a steakhouse can't even take the time to make a proper toasted sandwich in an unbusy restaurant at less than 25% capacity ... I will never be back. I still can't believe how lazy the cook was that he couldn't make it the right way in a pan but rather slapped warm ingredients together with cold bread and dressing. AT $16!!!! One good thing was the waitstaff. My waitor was excellent ... it was as much of an insult to a professional such as him making him serve that crap as it was for me to have to eat it. You could make the arguement that at Bobby Van's I should have had steak ... but honestly, if you can't do a basic sandwich ... you think I'm going to trust you with a $40 cut of meat? Went to dinner here this evening. Our waiter was by far one of the worst waiters I've ever had. Not only was the service horrible from the start, the bartender started screaming at the wait staff. Literally screaming to the point everyone turned to see what the screaming was about. By far the worst dinner service I've ever had. To the business owner, I would inform your staff not to scream out like that when customers are eating dinner. I've never witnessed anything like that. It's not a good look. Amazing!!! I come here everytime I get the chance. Love love love the bartenders!! Food: We had the Pork Bun Sliders --Amazing balls!!! Steak special covered in some OMG good cheese --- Most delicious thing I've put in my mouth in a long time. Kale salad special --boooo, was tasteless, and after the steak it was hard to eat a salad. Let me start by saying that over many, many years this has been one of my go to restaurants. Very good and consistently dependable dishes are served in a buzzy room with a wonderful bar. Today unfortunately my opinion of this restaurant has changed. We went for a late brunch and I ordered my favorite eggs Benedict. Brunch arrived as did my hard boiled eggs benedict. Our waiter graciously (not) admitted that the eggs were a little over cooked ... Really ? ... and offered to bring me a new soft boiled egg. He did not offer to replace the dish. Ten minutes later, with everything on my plate now cold , the replacement arrived. A single egg in a tiny bowl. Perhaps I will go back. Tonight I'm leaning towards no. read more
