While the rest of Dillingham is shut down, crumbling or under construction thanks to the rail project, Bob's is still here, holding its ground and serving up pure deliciousness. Admittedly, my only experience with Hawaiian BBQ was from a couple of chain restaurants in California. This food is completely different. Anyways this place has always had a great selection of food ranging from burgers and fries to plate lunches and all tasty and at a decent price. My last visit was a bit lacking but no business is perfect and this visit was definetely more favorable. The staff is always cool but seems to be ever changing but its like that everywhere.... I'm sure you've noticed the strong teriyaki/bbq aroma as you driven past the intersection of Dillingham and Waiakamilo. And it's all coming from that little shack with those four bright, bold, yellow letters: BOB'S. This is another childhood memory of mine and my review might once again be fueled by nostalgia. But the food and experience is just as I remembered it, and this time, I was able to show my wife all about it! We stopped by Bob's after my wife finished work for dinner and when she asked what I get here, I told her I aways get their Hibachi Chicken Combo (with Scallops). As it was her first time, she decided to try their Hibachi Chicken since it's unique to Bob's. We also ordered a large chocolate malt. I took her to the nearby tables and used to tell her my dad used to take me and my brother every so often when we were kids. It didn't take long for our order to be called and we dug right in. One thing I noticed that was changed (for the better in my opinion) was that there were three larger sized scallops as opposed a few smaller sized pieces of scallops back then. The chicken was tender and the sauce is more on the sweet side and just as I remembered it. My wife seemed to happily enjoy her food as well. One thing to note is that they put their Mac salad in a separate small container which is nice small detail. Their malt was as thick as ever and waited a bit for it to melt so we could eat it with a spoon. It was a thick, chocolate rich, and refreshing. Nostalgia is a powerful thing; but it's a testament to how Bob's has upheld that consistency of flavors. Twelve years later and it seems Bob's is timeless--same building, same aromas, same flavors and same dining experience on those tables. Their portions are hearty and their food is delicious. Classic local BBQ drive in food. Can't go wrong if you need a fix for a local snack. Not super fancy just enough salts, fats, and carbs everyone's favorite. It's been around for a while and has been consistently the same which is a good thing. Their combos are good I'd recommend you just try anything you're in the mood for. I feel cheated. As a native Californian, any Hawaiian food I have tried here does not even compare to Bob's. My husband and I stumbled upon this place while driving around. We saw a long line and decided if there was a lot of people, there must be a reason why. Bob's has a building where the inside is the kitchen. There is a window where you order and a different window where they call your name to tell you your order is ready. There are a bunch of tables, picnic style and condiments that you can put in little condiment containers to use. We shared a kalbi short ribs and fried shrimp combo, the combo also came with macaroni and white rice. The short ribs had sooo much flavor, and were tender to the bite. The macaroni definitely tasted freshly made, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The shrimp was soo crispy and tasty, I wish we would have gotten more. I have been getting Bob's for about 15-20 years now. Not often, but as another description mentioned, "generous portions" I never really had a complaint. However, my last purchase of a mixed BBQ plate got me one piece each of kalbi, bbq beef and bbq chicken. They weren't small pieces but they were no where near generous. I have had more before. I was told smaller pieces would get extra but I would consider what I got today on the smallish side and in the past, got me one extra kalbi or bbq chicken. I know prices are high but for almost $20 for the plate, I might as well look for greener pastures. $20 plates get me a bit more substance at Panda's, Peppa's and other places. read more

Overall, a nice surprise for my first time ever after years of driving past this iconic Bbq lunch plate. Pork ribs plate (mini) was good and price wise, better than expected. Ribs were tender and fell off the bone. The bbq sauce (cool) was ok but it took some of the heat away from the actual ribs when slathered on, resulting in a room temp product. Not bad, but the ribs lacked natural juiciness. The standard 2 1/2 scoop rice was so so and tasted like meh. Mac salad was almost room temp with a heavy mayo presence and a lack of seasoning. Definitely more salt but maybe a little onion too. The star of the show on the plate was the fried scallops. I know they aren't real scallops but they are delicious nonetheless. My family and I stopped here for lunch on a recent visit to Honolulu. We had just landed after leaving Maui and were hungry for lunch. We wanted Hawaiian BBQ and found Bob's Bar-B-Que on Yelp. We were very happy we stopped. Getting there was a bit tricky with all the rail construction in the area. We ordered two Mixed BBQ plates and got a good amount of food. The Kalbi, Chicken and Beef were nice and tender and had really good flavor. As "The Colonel" says, it was finger licking good!! It was the right choice for lunch and we had no leftovers. Bob's looks like it's been around for some time, but it appears they have a solid following, based upon how busy it was. We grabbed a table and proceeded to enjoy our lunch.
