Boca in Summerhill did not disappoint. I'd ordered from them before on DoorDash but finally decided to check it out in person--and I'm so glad I did. I had the Flantas, which comes as a single but packs so much flavor. Crispy on the outside with a creamy salsa and crema drizzle that I could've licked off the plate. I also got chips and salsa, which were fresh and crunchy, and a peach basket cocktail that was strong and super refreshing. The inside is very inviting and would be a great place to hang out with friends at the bar for some nice drinks. Boca is overpriced for extremely mid Mexican food. The chicken birria tacos were good but they were $6 a piece and did not come with the consomme. Consomme was an extra $3 for a very small portion. The chorizo taco was dry and did not have enough meat for a $4.5 taco. My friend got rice and beans with her tacos and was surprised that the rice was unseasoned plain white rice... for $5 a cup! I wasn't planning to leave a review--but if it helps someone else, especially young single women, it's worth it. I recently moved to Atlanta and thought this would become my go-to bar. Who doesn't love a good spicy marg and a place that reminds them of home? A couple of weeks ago, I went with a few close girlfriends--we're all industry women. We know our limits and always watch our drinks. The bartender's behavior struck me as strange from the start. He spent a lot of time bragging about being a DJ and kept circling behind us. My friends had spoken with him just the weekend prior--he wore shades and talked with them for a couple of hours off the clock. But on this night, he didn't recognize them at all. He didn't remember their faces or understand the inside jokes they made based on that prior interaction. It felt off. I had one spicy margarita and one shot. We always stick to tequila--two drinks and one shot, or two shots and one drink. In a Snapchat video, you can see that my second drink was barely touched. I wasn't even aware I had ordered it. Shortly after the shot, I couldn't process the time--"11:12 p.m."--even though I had to work early the next morning and had been very aware of the time earlier. My awareness began slipping fast. I remember noticing a large party behind us at some point, but everything felt warped and surreal. Sounds became muffled--like I was underwater. I couldn't make sense of conversations happening around or directed at me. Snapchat videos later filled in moments I didn't remember. My logic and reasoning weren't cooperating. I grew frustrated as nothing made sense. I called my father and brother, who live on opposite sides of the country. They told me to leave, but I couldn't clearly hear or understand them. Boca is under new management and has changed their game a little (or so I've been told by the sign out front and other restaurant go'ers). It is now more family friendly, less pricey, and the menu has changed. We were immediately given some complimentary chips and salsa, always helpful when you have kids in stow although the mostly mild salsa was too much for our little ones. We got some queso which was tasty but did hardened up after a bit (maybe that's all queso). The kids quesadillas came quickly and were very affordable and did the trick for them. The adults split the steak fajita dinner special (very juicy and tender meat but also the most expensive item on the menu at $28) and the decked out shrimp salad. Again, both were very tasty but we did find the shrimp a tad salty. We also shared the dragon fruit cocktail, which was good, but less so the more of it we had perhaps with it being a bit too sweet. Wait staff was very friendly and I did find them accommodating of the kids. They mixed up our tortilla's on the order and gave us corn when we ordered flour but not a huge deal. Everything came in nice portion sizes. Finally, we got some churros for desert (only other option is flan, hopefully they can expand in that department) and it took awhile for them to come out. They were very good and in the future, it would be nice if they make a sauce for them like some places do. I came here after a show with a group of friends and wow did we have a great experience here! The workers offered fantastic service and were helpful with any questions we had with the menu. The inside dining area was quite spacious and well decorated with a great view of the kitchen and the tortilla making area. They have a great menu with plenty of dishes to choose from and after some thinking, I went for their special which is birria tacos and I chose beef for my meat along with a Modelo to go with it. They gave us complimentary chips & salsa while we waited for our appetizers. We ordered the Herby Guacamole & the Crema De Frijol which were both delicious and were good portions for the price we paid($10-$13 each). Both dips were very fresh and had great flavor and I loved the homemade tortilla chips that paired well with them! When the birria tacos came out, they looked amazing. I quickly dug into them and I was impressed at how they were! The consome was a bit on the thicker side which was fantastic when dipped with the tacos. The consome had great flavor and was not bland at all and the tortillas were delicious. The beef was chewy and flavorful and not overcooked and well-seasoned. Towards the end of our meal, the owners enjoyed our company so much that they brought out free mezcal shots on the house which I thought was very kind and grateful! The service here was impeccable and I would for sure recommend coming here if you are in the downtown area and want some quality Mexican food! You won't be disappointed! Got to check out their "soft opening" of their permanent location in Summerhill this weekend. Honestly probably 3.5 stars, but giving some benefit of the doubt that this is what soft openings are for. The house made tortillas and chips are fantastic - 5 stars for those and the flautas with chicken. The queso was fairly generic. We also had a mulita and some tacos; all were just ok. The meats aren't ground but very minced and gave the food a more low quality feel. Everything did have good flavor. Service is where they lost us. It was Friday night and the patio was pretty full. Yet at least 2 employees were still kicking back at a table of 4 enjoying their own food and drinks, and occasionally getting up to take an order or bring out a check. This is not a soft opening issue imo... It took a really long time to get basics like water and napkins, which was frustrating given the above situation. I hope they work out their service issues, in which case their food holds up and they will be primed for success in this location! read more

We ordered the queso to start, along w a margarita each. The drinks arrived first - we ordered the same drink each, but each of ours tasted completely different. Not bad by any means, but not consistent. The queso was fine - the flavor was great, but a true pain to eat. Had the consistency of silly putty and extremely oily. The two of us ordered 2x tacos each and all of them were C+ at best. Again, only 4 of us in the whole place, and the tacos still came out 65% hot and didn't taste fresh. Also, $7 a taco?! And not even a good one?! We were going to pay by app, but that required an extra $3 fee, and also had the default "popular" tip option of 23% which included tipping on top of tax. Our service was decent, but not at the 23% level. Ask to get a regular check. Also - a regular tequila soda is $14, and a "boutique" margarita is a dollar more. Fool me once. read more

Walked on a random Saturday to have brunch. The building is small, quaint and modernized decor. The menu is relatively small but I opted to order cheese dip. The dip was nasty and cold (my opinion), and definitely didn't taste like traditional queso/cheese dip from a restaurant. My friend ordered tacos and she said she really enjoyed them. We went to D Boca N Boca as part of a large group. Service was good and our waiters were very friendly. The restaurant is small with nice modern decor. I ordered the Sangre as my drink and it was great. I had two tacos (Pastor and Ribeye) and my husband had three (Pollo Asado, Pastor, and Ribeye. We also shared the guacamole. The guacamole was quite good and their chips were thin and crispy. The tacos were okay, but pretty underwhelming considering the price is $7 per taco. The Pollo Asado was the best of the three. The Al Pastor was well seasoned but fatty and the Ribeye was a bit bland. The vibes were good so this might be a better place for a nice drink and an appetizer to go with. read more

Called multiple times Thursday night to make a reservation but nobody picked up. Made a reservation online Thursday evening for 9 people on Saturday at noon for brunch because we were planning to do bottomless mimosas and very much looking forward to it. We all showed up on Saturday at noon only to find a handwritten sign posted on the door that says they're now only open from Thursday-Tuesday from 3p to close. Would have been nice if someone called me or emailed me in advance to let me know this reservation wasn't possible, that's just poor service - we all wasted our time by driving here. Online still says they open at 11a so we had no reason to believe otherwise. Also, I assume there is no brunch or bottomless mimosa now since they only open at 3p. Shame. read more

The UGLY: From the moment I walked in and went to the rest room to wash my hands, I should've left. I washed my hands and there were no paper towels in the rest room. I go to the bar to ask for some and the bar didn't have any paper towels or little square drink napkins. She had to essentially give me a dinner napkin to dry my hands. I was seated at the bar and the bartender was more concerned with cutting oranges, lemons and cleaning than me. I had to essentially tell her that I was ready to order after giving her many opportunities in between task to ask me if I wanted anything. After I finally get her attention, she takes my order, but forgets to ring up a item I ordered. Therefore, my order didn't all come out at the same time. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Lastly, the few times I interrupted her from cutting and now squeezing lemons, she seemed irritated aeb of her shaking her head after I asked her for service. The GOOD: The chicken and steak tacos were good!!!!!!! The two stars are for the two tacos. I'm big on service and basic accommodations. The get 0 stars for that today. This new Mexican bodega spot opened in Summerhill and was excited to try. The hostess stand was outside the restaurant (probably because there was a DJ playing music). We were seated right away and opted for a table inside - they also have bar seating and outdoor seating. The server, Briana, was nice and told us to ask her if we have any questions. I wanted a skinny margarita but she wasn't sure if that's possible so she said she'd ask the bartender. I suppose they couldn't make that so I ended up getting a regular margarita but with mezcal instead of tequila. My husband got the Sandia a Day (mind you each drink was $15). Once we finished ordering, our server suggested we get the salsa board to accompany our tacos so we did. It came with 5 different salsas and chips. I wish the server described which is which, and we had to figure it out ourselves, but I enjoyed the pineapple salsa and pickled veggies the best. The chips were homemade and had a great crunch but was too greasy for my liking. We also ordered 3 tacos ($7 a piece) - mushroom barbacoa, camarones and Al pastor. All tacos were served in a homemade blue corn tortilla, which was delicious. The mushroom could have been cooked a bit more since it still had a chew, but did have a little kick. The shrimp was huge - came 3 or 4 pieces and was seasoned nicely. My favorite was Al pastor - you got some burnt pieces from the meat simmered in sauce. Another one of my favorites is the chicken mole. The sauce was so delicately rich and delicious. It did appear the chicken was roasted then topped with the sauce, but I wish they simmered the chicken with that delicious mole sauce. Even the rice it was served with was so good! The reason why this place gets 4 stars is because of their pricing. I thought it was way overpriced, but you gotta pay rent and your workers somehow plus cost of rising prices in general. Our total bill ended up being over $100 with taxes included. Service could be improved since we did wait for our drinks for a bit and was not served water right away. Our server did top our water glass once when she stopped by our table to check in on us after getting our food. It was very quiet at 3:30 pm, and we'd read an article about Boca which made everything sound enticing. I guess it was an OLD article, and Yelp reviewers now tell me the store is under new management. The menu offered few of the items featured in the tantalizing article, and virtually nothing vegetarian. The servers were lovely, and get the place 3 stars, because the food doesn't deserve more than one. We were served complimentary chips & salsa, which is a plus, but the chips were weirdly slightly sweet, and that was off-putting. The salsa was mild to the point of being tasteless. We ordered a tiny $10 cup of guacamole which was fresh but also flavor-free. I'm a vegetarian and hubby is not, so Mexican is usually great for us. But in this case I'm glad I'm on a diet, because I wasn't even tempted to finish my meal, nor take it home. My cheese enchiladas were cold, shredded cheese inside flour tortillas, with a mild, tepid (canned?) sauce ladled over it. They were served on a sizzling iron griddle, but that's the only part of the food that was warm. My husband's chicken enchiladas were the same, with cold, diced (canned?) chicken. A side of (canned) black beans and rice came with it. We only ordered a beer and a diet coke, both of which were served in cans(!) so I can't speak to the cocktails, which might be amazing.
