I've always driven by this place and never stopped. I never even knew they had such a great menu inside. I had the corned beef hash with eggs and it was the best breakfast I've ever had for dinner. Seriously, I am going back just to have that again. The food was incredible. My wife had a corned beef sandwich and fries. She said it was one of the best tasting corned beef she has ever had. Haven't been coming here long but food has always been great. First time I've had a club sandwich with real turkey, and I mean real like thanksgiving. Corned beef was great too only reason for 4 stars is it was too fatty for me. I'm picky though so definitely try this place it's delicious. We stopped in on a busy Friday night. The restaurant was packed and the staff seemed unable to handle the rush. As other reviewers mentioned, the restaurant is dated and needs a good cleaning. Another concern was the smoke from the open kitchen that filled the interior of the restaurant. The front door was propped open with a chair I assume to let the smoke out. It didn't work the smoke really took your breath away. Eventually, the waitress brought 2 menus and said another may be available soon. The three of us made due with the two. One guest ordered the Friday, Fried Fish dinner. It arrived with a dark brown crust on the outside and nearly raw fish on the inside. We were able to call over the waitress who took 3 pieces back to be re-cooked. Two pieces were returned--still undercooked and tastless. Someone arrived to inquire, perhaps and owner or manager she did not identify herself. She declared the batter needed to be thinned and left without any concern for the customers opinion. The French fries were cold and tasteless. There was no coleslaw or salad. Another guest had the dill pickle soup. This should have been named potato soup. Mediocre at best. Luke warm, tasteless, no seasoning. The third guest had a traditional Reuben Sandwich. It was outstanding. The bill was delived and intended to be split in 2. The waitress took payment for the 2 guest and recharged the whole order to the 1 guest. When we explained she seemed confused and unable to correct it. Eventually the money was refunded. If you do have an opportunity to visit this restaurant, my words of wisdom would be to order a Reuben and make it to go. read more

Stopped at Bode's for lunch today. We drove past it, and had to turn around and go back. Glad we did. Ordered the Tuesday special, corned beef and cabbage. This was our first time at this restaurant. It was a pleasant experience. The waitress was very friendly, and helpful. All of the food was great, and large portions. Took half to go, to eat tonight. So disappointed in the service ended up walking out! I am writing in the spirit of helping a local eatery that is an institution in Plymouth. Waitress walked by my friend and I twice without acknowledging us. Took an order from a couple who came in after us and walked right by again. Another couple told us service was slow and tried to help us get someone's attention. Restaurant was busy and other servers were around but no one stopped to say anything. Ok, back for a second time with family from out of town. Six of us, on a Saturday morning. OK, not the greatest of times to go to a restaurant in Plymouth, but we needed breakfast, and my brother-in-law was desperate for C/B hash. After my last experience, I thought I would go to McDonalds for a McMuffin, but held my tongue. Crap. Shoulda Yelp'ed loud and long. It started with the waitress seating our large party at two tables that needed to be bussed. They wiped the table with a towel looked to of wiped down a Quick Oil-N-Lube. And left the table wet. I had only coffee. Good call. The rest of my family groused of the.... * S..l..o..w service * Chilly eggs * ...but the C/B hash was Ok. Next time, I'll get my bro-in-law a can of Hormel & an opener. They had me at homemade corned beef hash and eggs. I might be in love. This is a little joint near the rail road tracks, it's been here a long time. I won't say that it's dirty, but it's a little rough around the edges. It's a comfy place where everyone knows everyone who comes in (now they know me). Went inside for lunch with a coworker ordered the food to go. I got the out the box rueben sandwich which was very good. I also got the glazed salmon salad. Although it looked very good but the salmon was very dry with no flavor. Overall I would suggest it but won't be getting the salad again. Also the chips that comes with the sandwich should come already in a bag or boxed up separately. Chips got soggy. read more

This place has been around a while, and after seeing the largely positive reviews, my husband and I stopped by for lunch. The waitress was very nice and we didn't have to wait long for our food. That being said, we were both a bit disappointed. Their fried pickles were good - not too heavy on the breading, and homemade buttermilk dressing was pretty good too. I'm a Reuben fan, and while the corned beef was tasty and a good sized portion, the sandwich was a bit dry and missing sauerkraut and dressing. There was a side of slaw that I used, but still, it was a Reuben I was craving. My husband got a club sandwich, which seemed a bit light on the meat and was also on the dry side as mine was. You just have to eat here. Where ever you are in Plymouth make this a go to place. There is none other in this area can top their corn beef sandwiches and Reubens!!! Their fish is quite tasty as well. Whenever I get a taste for corn beef Bode's is the place I go. Once. Stopped. Sigh. My daughter introduced me to it this past November, and all I can ask myself is: why? Why did I never stop in? Why did I never dive into the awesome Reuben sandwich they served me before this day? WHY OH WHY had I not sampled their AWESOME fried pickles, and wonderful, fresh and crispy french fries? WHY, DEAR GOD, WHY?! Well now it's been done. Bode's is on my radar, and I can die happy. Thanks, Bode's! And thanks, Jessica! Don't let this be your sad story, too. Stop. Park. Try the door. Thought I'd give this place a try since it's been around since 1959 and I'd driven by numerous times. Well, that was a mistake. It appears the interior hasn't been updated or cleaned since then. My dining partner had the Belgian waffle topped with strawberries. The bottom of the waffle had burned remnants of food from a previous meal on it. The strawberries were gross and inedible. No complaints about my reuben sandwich, though. It was very good. The service was awful. An older woman was our waitress and she appeared to not want to be there. No greeting, small talk and unfriendly. She seemed to be mumbling to herself alot. She didn't offer refills on coffee until we were ready to leave. No syrup was offered for the waffle or condiments for the sandwich. I actually witnessed her wipe her nose and NOT wash her hands afterward. She mumbled something about her allergies being bad. I was hoping to find a gem but did not. Will not return to Bode's. Many better options in Plymouth. read more

This place has been here since the founding of Plymouth. We came here a few times when we first moved to Plymouth; mediocre food and service and a restaurant that looked like it needed to be closed for a month and deep cleaned. My Bode's Review. I will throw out the disclaimer that I've been a fan of Bode's for decades. My family has been patrons of this dining establishment since I was a little kid. Ownership was passed from Richard to the current owners a few years ago and from some of the Yelp reviews, it wasn't a great transition. I feared the worst for my beloved 'go to" meal at Bode's. I got the AUCE (All You Can Eat) entree and it was just as I remember. The first allotment of chips I got were a "old" but the others were fresh out out of the fryer. The fish was good. 4 smaller pieces was a good start. Batter wasn't excessive. It could have used a bit of salt or pepper in the batter but overall good. That's what salt/pepper/malt vinegar is for. Getting the AUCE option is risky if you fill up too quickly on your first round of protein and starch. The waitress brought over the second wave of fish. One medium-large piece and two smaller ones. I can say that the quality of the fish and chips is the same as I remember even if the lighting of the place is a bit bright. read more

Was here this past week as my mom is a huge fan of pastrami sandwiches and was in town for the art fair. There were only two tables with folks there so the service was speedy but the sandwich was not great this time. I had a hamburger and it was good. My daughter had the grilled cheese and was only (OK) she reported. Dad ordered breakfast and we had to wait for the toast for his order which doesn't make a lot of sense. I would have thought it would have been packed but very few people there for 10am. Looks like the tables have finally been replaced and the place cleaned up a bit. It is a solid 4 stars I have been told there are new owners but do not notice a difference in quality of food and definitely nothing inside has changed lol but that's not a negative it reminds me of a nice neighborhood dive feel the exterior is old school and the chow inside is a step above your typical Coney Island fare with good hash and extremely reasonable prices considering you're walking distance from downtown Plymouth only thing I would say if there's a line or wait just come back on an off day there are very few places that you should wait more than 5 minutes to sit down and eat when there are new experiences waiting out there. read more

Well I finally made it to Bodes (pronounced Bowd-ees)! I had the corned beef hash. I have to give it 3.5 stars because while the corned beef was yummy, it was overpowered by a boatload of diced potatoes. With less potato, this hash would've rocked. The Hubby had a traditional Reuben. It was delish! I, of course, had to taste it. Stacked high with corned beef, it was a sandwich that would make an authentic New York deli proud. Not overdone on the kraut, light thousand island, slice of swiss, the beef shined through like the star it is meant to be. The kiddos shared the 3pc fish dinner. The fish was super skinny, so they threw 4 on the plate for them. Nice amount of crunch, not at all greasy, no overly "fishy" taste. All in all, standard fish and chips. Next time though, I'll ask them to lightly salt the fries as soon as they come out of the fryer. Came to the table dry and the salt just pooled underneath them. They were good and crispy though! Our waitress was awesome, didn't catch her name but she's a redhead. Don't wait for a server to seat you, just go in and find yourself a table. First come, first served. I went there for the first time on a friends' recommendation. The corn beef was excellent, I had no problem with that itself but, it was pricey for the size sandwich that they served. I paid $9+ for a corn beef with coleslaw on it but the sandwich wasn't very big, in fact, I could've eaten two of them. I don't think they should charge more than maybe seven dollars for that sandwich. But overall, I was delicious. read more

Actually been a long time customer of Bode's, with a trip about once a year. Last time I was there they just recently changed ownership and were working through the kinks of that. But its been a year or 2 or 3 with my visit today and I think I'm done. I really don't like coming home smelling like the place. You can get an incredible $11 corned beef sandwich at several places within the same driving distance now. Bode's looks dirty, but its always been that way. Its not trying to be a fine dining restaurant and it won't be. If you want a diner that's been around forever, prepare to walk into a time capsule. read more

My husband and I used to be frequent visitors of Bodes. Nothing changed, other than both our schedules- we simply do not spend much time around Plymouth anymore. This restaurant used to be a tad bit dive-like but the owner has recently spent time and money redoing several areas in the restaurant which shows. We like to get the box car sandwich (grilled bread, corned beef,1000 island, cheese and coleslaw) with fries. Very yummy and big enough to fill you up! Their fresh corned beef hash (breakfast special before 11 for a little under $5) is also very good. Fish and chips are very yummy- especially their tartar sauce... It is sweet and reminds me of the sauce that comes on McDonalds filet o fish sandwiches. Cute place with mostly friendly wait staff. read more
