I feel like Boiling Point is good...but its not great. There is always room for improvement and I hope it only gets better. the first time I've had Boiling Point was for lunch on a Wednesday and it was quite busy for the middle of the week. We didnt wait long, he were seated in less than 5 minutes and after putting in our oders, it came out fairly quick. Service was actually great the first time, they were quick to bring out our food and checked in on us mutiple times. We even did a quick survery at the end of our meal to rate the service and the food. Overall, I was a happy customer. The second time I went...Also a weekday but during dinner hours, we ended up waiting for about 20-25 minutes and it went by a lot faster than expected. Service but a bit slower and they forgot our drinks....we finally got our drinks halfway into our meal....luckily we were more hungry than thirsty. The third time I went (which was yesterday) the wait was very short...about 5 minutes, I guess we got there at the perfect time before the dinner traffic. It took awhile for anyone to acknowledge our table but when they finally did....the food came out pretty fast along with the drinks. I've had ordered Shaved Snow for the first time here and it was pretty good...we had the Taro one and I was glad it wasn't super sweet. The hot pots that I really like here: -Beef hot pot - really good....has everything I like in it. -Lamb hot pot - Really good...has everything I like in it and it was my first time having lamb and it wasnt as bad as I had imagined. Hot pot I didn't really like: -Kim Chi (Korean) Pot Hot.....OK, when they said Kim Chi hot pot...they were really dead serious about Kim Chi.....half of my pot was filled with Kim Chi! It was Kim-Chi overkill.... So far, so good. I do think this place can definately improve on their service and their price is decent....I don't think its overpriced compared to the places I've been in OC and the amount of food is actually perfect...not too much but not too little. I have to say that I LOVE LOVE their sauces....the red sauce they have is awesome...I cant figure out what's in it and the brown sauce is just as good. I love adding the spicy oil into the sauces and the hot pot itself. I do think they lack in service in some ways but its not as bad as some people may think. I've gone to the Boiling Point in Arcadia, and after numerous nightmarish experiences with the food and staff there, I have decided never to step foot into Boiling Point ever again. Until I met up with my friends for a little reunion in Irvine, and I found out too late of our chosen location. Yep, Boiling Point, the Irvine edition. My friend had made a reservation for six but only the two of us were present when our table was ready. Our server had mistakenly assumed that our entire party was here and she proceeded to seat us two first, only to realize her mistake. Fortunately she didn't ask us to relinquish our seats and we staked the booths for ourselves. FOURTY FIVE MINUTES LATER and the rest of our party still hasn't shown up. I was getting worried that my friend and I would be lynched for telling filthy lies to the staff, and I was running out of excuses to tell our server. Had this been the Arcadia location, the manager probably would have come out and rudely yell at us to leave. There were some new items on the menu and I tried their Japanese miso soup hotpot. To this day, I still regret that decision. The soup base was bland, flavorless, and boring as fuck. There was nothing about the pot that was remotely close to Japanese. There was so little flavor that I seriously wondered if there was even any miso at all. It's suppose to contain: taiwanese cabbage, udon, sliced pork, enoki mushroom, clams, foochow fishballs, fish fillet, king oyster mushroom, crab, fried tofu skin, and soft tofu. It certainly had a lot of cabbage and the other usual staples, but I got one piece each of the unique items. Hell, my clam wasn't even fresh: the damned shell was sealed tight shut despite being subject to all that...boiling. I come here often and the service has yet to disappoint me. The service is excellent during the times I was there. The waiter was busy with a full house but was checking in with us. I came during lunch hour so we had to wait about 10-15 minutes, which isn't too bad considering the time i was there. The food comes out cooked on a mini shabu like pot. It's kept on the jelly flaming stuff. The spicy one is delicious. It also comes with a tea drink in a togo cup. Overall experience: Good. Restaurant: Clean. I've been back a few times since but usually not at peak times because of the wait. Service has improved since my first review but it still takes effort to flag down the waiters. What really got me today was their policy on groups and waiting. I understand that with larger groups, they ask you to wait to be seated when the rest of the group arrives. Reasonable. But asking you to start back at the bottom of the list when you ask to add one more guest to your party? Not so cool when you've waited 25 minutes of the projected 30-40 minute wait and now you're told it's going to be another 25-40 minute wait. I remember the first time I came here, I got so excited because of all the pictures on Instagram!! I got the beef broth in spicy!! I'm Korean and I can handle spicy. However, I think they should lower the spicy chart. The broth was burning my throat which eventually left me with a runny nose! Still so yummy. Winter is here which means a lot of trips back to Boiling Point. Hot pot always hits the spot, especially on a cold day, and this is a great place to come and get my fix. There has been a line every time I've come. The restaurant is pretty small, so the line can get quite long sometimes....think over an hour at about 9pm on a Saturday night. But if you're willing to brave the wait (there are some other places you can check out in the plaza for a quick snack or something), I think that the food here is actually quite good. I used to stick to the #2 (seafood) option, but lately I've taken quite a liking to the curry fishball soup. Either way, they have a variety of different bowls that will most likely satisfy most people's preferences. I think the thing that makes Boiling Point special is their garlic soy sauce thing....it is pretty much one of the best sauces I've had at any Asian place. It goes well with everything that comes in your bowl, and it adds a very very nice element to your hot soup. Nothing else special....service is mediocre, and the drinks are decent. Verdict? I'm not the biggest fan of hot pot but I love the hot pot here! I always order the beef hot soup because it has all of my favorite stuff. It's definitely more worth it to come during lunch time though, because it's cheaper and you also get an iced tea. The soups come with either more noodles on the side or rice. Also, they sell ice cream macarons here which are delicious! The drinks here are super good, I highly recommend the Hokkaido iced tea. The sauces that are in the jars on the table? The first time was good, the second time around lost its appeal. I don't know what happened, but I did not enjoy my food on my 2nd visit. It just didn't hit the spot for me. I had the Beef Hot Pot, but something was lacking. I can't really pin point it. The waiting process is pretty cool though. Just step up to the iPad, type your name, and enter the number in your party- press enter and a receipt prints out with an "approximate" wait time. Just be close by because the host will call your number and if you aren't present, will skip to the next number fairly quickly. I'm not going to be suggesting Boiling Point as a must do when friends come into town to visit, but I also will not be opposed to going back if someone wants to try it. I've only had this place three or four times when I lived in Irvine, and I wasn't too impressed. I never found myself craving Boiling Point as much as other places. Also, I didn't find it great enough to make the drive all the way down Culver Drive. I would recommend the Thai soup and the beef soup. The Thai soup tastes like Tom Yum soup you can get at a Thai restaurant. I wish it had more shrimp and meat, though. I really like the beef soup--flavorful and filled with lots of beef! Try this one for your first time, I feel like this is appealing to everyone. The seafood and tofu soup was not my favorite, so my friends ate most of that one, when we bought several different soups to share. The soup just tasted a little off to me and had a weird aftertaste. Drinks: Hokkaido Milk Tea is probably the best drink there. Unique and can't find it anywhere. It kind of tastes like the white rabbit candies we all ate when we were younger, but sweeter. There's a stamp card for drinks. I actually bought boba here more than the food whenever I was in the area with my friends. Ice cream macaroon sandwiches are whatever. I like this place. The lunch special makes your meal totally worth it, but it is a tad sneaky. It's normally $11.99 plus you get a milk tea (green or black) of your choice, but there's three items that are $15.99 (#8,9,10). The $11.99 totally makes it worth it, the $15.99 is ok. But realistically, dinner prices are a dollar more without the free milk tea. I got the #8, with quail eggs added and it was delicious. There is a lot of food packed into the little hot pot. The only issue I have is that it keeps cooking and my meat is overcooked if I save it until the end. You can ask the servers to turn off the fire so you can eat without sweating with the constant boiling. The amount of food is massive though, I still had stuff in my pot that I couldn't finish because I was too full. The flaming spicy wasn't too spicy for me (I can handle pretty spicy), but there's additional hot sauce on the table that gives it an extra kick if you so choose. If you come close to the end of their lunch hours, make sure they know you get the lunch special. We got into a little argument about it because the hostess said we still made it for lunch hours, but we were charged dinner prices. Some other tables had the same experience. read more

I always go to this location or the one in Gardena, and I have to say I like it here better. I love the service here and every time I come the hot pots have been consistently yummy! If you come during lunch you get a free green or black tea. They refill your broth when you want, turn off the flame if it's too hot, and Togo your soup for you if you can't finish it all. Me and my buddies had to wait in line for 40 min, so that sucked... -.- when we finally got seated, we had a waitress named Donna help us out. My friends ordered the Taiwanese, seafood, curry, and kimchi hot pots and I ordered the beef (heard it was popular). I sampled all of their broths to see which ones were the best. Out of all of the soup broths, I would recommend: -beef: more flavorful than some of the others. Got this in medium spice -kimchi: -seafood Some of my other friends complained that their broth was bland. My soup was also not anything spectacular until I put in some spoonfuls of the black garlicky sauce. That pumped more flavor into the hot pot!! The black sauce is sooooo good. And the red sauce is also rich and tangy and extremely flavorful. Theres also chili oil you can add to your soup to add a subtle spicy kick. I honestly thought the hot pot was mediocre-good. It wasn't bad, but it didnt blow my tastebuds away. Was it worth the wait? Maybe not so much when im tired and cranky. Will I come back again? -why not? ;) Their fresh milk tea is one of the best I ever had. A little bit too sweet but it just tasted so...fresh. Fresh milk tea of Belair. Perfect combo of Taiwanese and Japanese hot pot. The only thing holding them back is the food to price ratio, it's expensive for the amount of food you are getting. We got the Taiwanese spicy hot pot, beef hot soup and Japanese miso. My favorite was the Taiwanese spicy but it is flaming and they mean flaming. So cautious. The stinky spicy tofu was amazing and not fried it's boiled(which I love) They also do my offer sauté sauce, how do you even have hot pot without the core of it? The sauce! Came to BP just to get some milk tea because I've often heard of people getting yummy drinks here... it was a busy time, I'll give them that, but I ordered drinks only from a very specific register and it was like, everything that could go slightly wrong did. Not friendly, ignored me initially, wouldn't answer my questions really, talked away from me while doing other things, then after taking my order, either totally forgot about me (while I was standing 3 feet away) or ignored our drinks so we ended up waiting like 15-20 minutes for no good reason. I actually ended up walking around to look for my drinks and found them sitting there and at least she kind of apologized at that point. Eh. The drinks themselves were just okay -- but I can see why the $10 meal PLUS drink is a much better deal... the drink by itself was closer to $4-5. I found out about Boiling Point in 2013...and I've been hooked ever since. Nothing beats an extremely filling and hot-as-all-hell brothy deliciousness when you aren't feeling well (especially after a night of drinking). Truth be told, I've only ordered one particular dish--the House Special. If you're a fan of stinky tofu, then definitely get this dish. It's got intestines, stinky tofu, meat slices, napa cabbage and two slices of blood cake. For the price, all of the personal hot point dishes offered at Boiling Point are good deals, and all have a good helping of vegetables and protein which varies depending on the item that you order (they pretty much pair the protein/veggie/tofu combo with whatever broth you decide to get). Combos range between $12-$15 dollars for lunch, depending on what you order--and it comes with a drink and rice or noodles. But note that dinner pricing is usually an extra dollar, but no drink. So why the 3 stars? The service is never consistent at Boiling Point. There are days when every single employee is on point with refilling your broth and your water, and there are days when all the employees are so busy they can't accommodate every customer. Additionally, the wait can be annoying when you're super hungry (although the new Garden Grove location has alleviated the not-up-to-code crowds usually hovering by the door). But I think my main gripe is the recent change in the broth flavor. I used to always leave this place satisfied with my meal. Lately, however, I've noticed that the broth has been a little on the bland side during my past three visits (please note I'm strictly speaking about the House Special). I believe they switched vendors...so maybe that's why the broth hasn't been the same? Also, they removed the curry broth hot pot off the menu--apparently due to the new vendor no longer making the curry powder that the restaurant used for their broth. Boiling Point is still a popular spot for the Irvine crowd so it's not going anywhere for a while. I will update this review in the hope that the recent regress in flavor will be fixed. read more

Came in 15minutes before 3PM and was sat down immediately and a waitress came over to take my order quickly as well. The food came out soon after, but my drink took a little longer for whatever reason (btw the drinks come in to-go containers, so you can take it to go if you don't finish it with your meal!). I ordered the lamb option, which I liked, but didn't have much of a lamb flavor. I actually forgot it was lamb until I started writing this review... But I liked it nonetheless. I think the food itself is just average - the meat is not anything special, and the rest is really just cheap vegetables (and an egg), but I do think that this is a quick, easy and affordable alternative to eating hotpot. I was really impressed with the service here - all the servers were attentive, respectful, and genuinely friendly. They checked up on me a couple of times and also asked if I wanted extra soup. This place had pretty bad service in my opinion (compared to other BP places). Though, it's forgivable since it was near closing time and my friends and I were super hangry and just wanted to eat haha. I must say that this location is HUGEEE!!! I've never seen a BP this large in size! Typically the ones I go to are a lot smaller but this was crazy big in a good way. The unique feature is the signing in portion where they give you a ticket with your number...I thought that was cool since other locations didn't have that at all. Also, there's two BP in the same plaza. That is like whoa! My usual go-to order is the beef hot pot, medium level of spiciness. They messed up my friends order because she ordered the same except with no cilantro whatsoever and when it came out, it seemed to us that they mistakenly took out all her vegetables instead and it was not spicy at all. We told them about it but we forgave them since it was close to 11pm and we pretty much wanted to eat our food LOL. They were sorry for their mistake. Love getting some delicious hot pot during rainy/cold weather! I love the lunch special for $11.99 hot pot + drink (black or green tea), get the black tea it's delicious and refreshing! I love the concept of the mini hot pots. It filling and it comes with either rice or vermicelli. My go-to is the beef hot pot and my bf likes the house special or the Taiwanese spicy which is SUPER SPICY but very flavorful, it's perfect for heat lovers. The hot pot is always consistent here. But at 10:25pm (when the business is open until 11:00) you are asked to get all the dipping sauce you need before they take it away so the staff can get their side work done is pretty f***ing ridiculous, especially when my pot hasn't even arrived. This is one of my favorites in Irvine. Have been there frequently for 6 years. Highly recommended the flaming spicy hotpot, brings me a taste of home. I like the Hokiyado milk tea, usually ask for half sugar or quarter sugar. It's a must-go-to place for asian food. read more
