I learned about Bolay when a coworker suggested it for lunch, a while back. Went with them, not knowing what to expect. They just described it as a Chipotle style food bar and healthy. When I went, I heard them order and followed what they did. The sweet potato noodles were a first for me, but they highly recommended it. Now, I go back on my own. Their selections are, as they described, healthy but do not think you are sacrificing flavor for it. They make everything so tasty! They offer small size for kids, and when not too hungry. My go to is the regular size which includes 2 bases, a vegetable and a protein. For bases you have noodles, rice, saladas. For protein different flavored chicken, salmon, and more. Veggies you have broccoli, sweet potatoes, etc. Then there's the toppings - cheese, avocado, pickles onions, sauces... They have their own recipe bowls, but I like making my own. My go to, you ask, spinach salad with sweet potato noodles, broccoli, teriyaki chicken, and feta cheese. Delicious, filling, and reasonably priced. I haven't been to this location in a few years, I kind of got into a habit visiting the one out by 441 after work. That branch, on Glades, is really, really good. I usually get the salmon and it's outstanding. Everything in general is very fresh and the service is fantastic. This evening I decided to stop into the Polo Shoppes Bolay, as we really didn't have time to go out west. I got a large bowl with rice, kale salad, broccoli, mushrooms, and salmon. First and foremost they charged me extra for the salmon which is the norm, but the salmon quality was substandard. It was a little squishy and spongy, either like it wasn't cooked enough or maybe it was reheated or sitting for a while. I don't know, either way it wasn't very good. The vegetables were okay, the rice was obviously not fresh there are a lot of crunchy bits in there which I really didn't appreciate. Overall I didn't enjoy the meal, it was a bit of a struggle to get through and at $17 it seemed to be poor value for the money. Also wanted to mention how disappointing my interaction with the staff was. Didn't get a welcome or any greeting from the staff. After saying hello to the worker doing the scooping, I was surprised I didn't get a hello or any reaction back. Also when I said thank you upon paying, I didn't get a you're welcome or any comment back from the cashier. It's also not like they were stressing under a crazy line or anything there are only about two people in the place, so I'm leaving like, "what's up with the attitudes"? Really off putting. The portions are great for the price, a large bowl last two meals. Out of the 5 or so times I have ordered their has only been one time my order was not exactly what I ordered. Then a lemon chicken and steak. Added the red onions but no sauce as I wanted to taste the items. The people are always extremely nice and eager to please, their portions are generous, and they always have fresh back ups of everything ready to go. If you haven't been to Bolay, be sure to ask for samples of a few different things. While their flavors are unique and tasty, they definitely make you step outside of your comfort zone! Their cilantro noodles are an absolute must, paired with their tremendous smoked cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and their tender pork. You really can't go wrong! Their cilantro pesto is unlike any pesto I've ever tried, and believe me I've hunted the isles of many markets looking for a copy cat and can't seem to find any!!! This restaurant opened up in the Polo Shops Shopping Center and I'm certainly glad that it did! The food is healthy as well as tasty. You get lots of choices for your salad. The base , the veggies, the proteins, add-ons and toppings. There were four in our group and each of us had different and delicious choices! See my attached pictures. It is very casual...better than fast food because you eat with real plates as opposed to paper and silverware as opposed to plastic. Just the cups are not glass, but plastic. Straws are plastic as well for those of you who are eco-friendly. The eating area is nicely decorated. The music is contemporary and on the loud side, but at least you can hold a conversation.
