Anyways Their food is delicious. The spices are well distributed in their dishes and they offer different levels of heat. This is me and my families go to Indian restaurant. We love the food. It is absolutely delicious. We always order the meat samosas as an appetizer and me, My wife and my two boys devour them. we also usually order chicken tikka and chicken tikka maccani. Garlic naan and rice. We love their hot sauce. Their service is always top-notch. They are very polite, courteous and attentive. The only negative is that they no longer sell alcohol. We used to enjoy our meal with a glass of wine. Not sure what happened. But it's a great place to eat and very affordable. read more

Oh Bollywood... I really struggle with this place, mainly because it's my coworker's favorite restaurant and so we always order here for lunch despite having terrible experiences almost every time! Don't get me wrong - the food is delicious. I've tried their garlic naan, rice, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and lamb curry. They're all yummy, though I don't think they're anything noteworthy in the grand scheme of the LA Indian food scene. Lal Mirch across the street is very comparable in taste and price, and has much better service and portion sizes. But the service...oh man. I have no problem with a gruff service worker - I get it, you're not being paid to smile at me - but I've never had a good experience here. For instance, I've ordered the lunch combo in the past and they've forgotten my rice (fine, honest mistake) - but then they gaslit me for it, saying it was my fault for ordering via phone. Two weeks ago, I saw another customer complain that her curry exploded as soon as she set the bag down, and the same guy (I think he's the owner) yell at her for "not carrying the bag properly" instead of offering any solutions. Then just last week, when I ordered pick-up directly through their site, he made me wait for 10 min while he shuffled through his paperwork to make sure I paid, making me feel like I was trying to steal from him (fyi I had the order confirmation pulled up on my phone, but that clearly wasn't proof enough...). Then he refused to give me the receipt that was in his hands, saying they couldn't provide receipts for online orders...uh, what? I think the restaurant has gotten too popular for them to provide any real customer service. In short, the food is fine and can definitely satisfy and Indian cravings you have, but is it worth the aggravating service...? I'd say to go to Lal Mirch next door. read more

One of the few spots open later on Independence Day. Great customer service and tasty food. We ordered the vegetarian special for two which comes with choice of an appetizer, 3 entrees with rice and choice of dessert. Nice little space that seats about 50-75 if I would guess. They seemed super accommodating even though we showed up close to closing time. They even took an advance dine-in order over the phone for a party that showed up 5 min before closing. A good paratha is the signal of a good Indian restaurant. Bollywood Cafe's paratha is tasteless, thin, and dry to the point of being crispy. I trusted the good reviews of this joint and ordered okra, paneer korma, chicken tikka, and samosas. The samosas were fine! The chicken tikka tasted fine - who is who is that baby boy four wee chunks for ten bucks. The paneer korma was flavorless. One of the pieces of rigid lifeless paratha even had one edge that looked an unnatural gray- hard to photograph but posting it anyway... One of my favorite places to eat in Los Angeles, and I eat a lot in Los Angeles. If you want to eat some of the best Indian food you've ever had, waste no more time. Order the lamb coconut curry (you have to), chicken tikka masala, aloo mattar, and samosas. The flavor is unreal, I can't express that enough. Service is fantastic, everyone is so friendly. I think this place is a solid 3 to 3.5 star place. We ordered several different dishes for take out and I was just surprised at the poor execution. For a little over $50 including tips and delivery charges (for lunch) I would say I was very disappointed. We ordered chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, garlic naan, pulau rice, and the mixed appetizer and nothing stood out as excellent or very well executed. I think if I was pushed I would say aloo gobi, the potato and cauliflower dish was well done. The chicken tikka masala was flavored well and at medium spicy did have considerable heat ( not appropriate for young kids). We added some whole cream and it tasted like butter chicken. The issue wasn't necessarily the spice level or flavor, but the white meat chicken that was included was so tough and dry it was hard to comprehend how meat that was cooked in a liquid, saucy curry could be so tough and dry. How do you remove all moisture from chicken cooking in liquid? My husband surmised that it might have been because it was old food since we ordered as soon as the store opened at 11 am but I don't think restaurants do that. Legally speaking. But it was not good and I would not recommend the dish. The garlic naan, while I was really excited for and literally spent hours thinking about was also shockingly dry and crisp to the point of flaking off into crumbs. Our expectation of naan was in line with naans we have had at other restaurants and even at random all you can eat Indian buffets where the naan is toasted to a crisp exterior and puffed up soft on the other side and chewy on the inside. This was not that experience. Though it was not burned, it was like eating a cracker or wafer and not the experience I was looking forward to. The mixed appetizer was also very subpar. I ordered it because it had small samples of the chicken, beef and lamb tikka along with a samosa and a onion pakora. I never tried a pakora and I love samosas and chicken tikka so I thought why not. Hey, so here's why not: because everything was not good. The pakora was a fried unidentifiable lump of batter and dry onion strings. I can imagine what a well executed version could aspire to and this was a very far cry from that. I did not finish more than two bites. The samosa is not worth writing about. The chicken tikka was the only non-dry item in the appetizer mix other than the garnish lemon and lettuce on the bottom of the box. While I did eat most of the food, I am still baffled by some of the Yelp reviews where people have driven distances to order here and praise this restaurant as the best Indian. Y'all need to get out more and I need to scrutinize Yelp reviews more, even as an elite. Smh. read more

This is one of the places which doesn't deserve the rating it currently has. I am not sure how it garnered such ratings given the sub par food we received. Nothing we ordered was even close to a 2 on a scale of 10. The place is dated and probably not a great ambience for dine in. We took out sheekh kebob, paneer tikka, butter masala, kofta curry, biryani, paratha and naans. The kebob was dry and the chutneys were ordinary. The paratha was drenched in butter and looked straight out of a frozen ready made pack. The naans were somewhat the saving grace as they were probably the only edible item on the order. The biryani was completely dry and had no flavors. It had peas and a ton of peas and no other vegetables ingredients. The currys were the standard run of the mill below average north Indian curry. The mango lassi was one of the worst. So, overall nothing notable to mention and pretty disappointing experience. Please avoid at all costs. read more

The restaurant is small and quaint so the inside definitely felt crowded, especially since we came in with a large party on a Saturday night. Putting the claustrophobic feeling aside, the food was pretty good. I ordered the paneer tikka masala and it was cooked well. My extended family come here alot so they ordered a bunch of dishes they said were food. I tried a bite of the Chicken tikka masala but I didn't much care for it because the Chicken was a little tough. My dad ate the Chicken tikka and he said it was a little dry. But everyone else loved all the dishes, so I guess it just depends on your tastes and how much experience you have with Indian food. Alot of people came in and out while we were eating to pick up takeout, so this place seems to be pretty popular. Parking was easy, as there's alot in the back. Service was friendly and good, although there were too many servers walking around in the small space, as some of us kept bumping into them every time we got up. All in all, not bad. read more

Yes, the food is good. BUT DON'T ORDER ONLINE FROM THIS RESTAURANT EVER. They have failed us TWICE, and the restaurant never bothered to tell us dinner would be very late (and I mean 30 minutes late!). I'm fed up with this restaurant. We had been regular customers. We are through with Bollywood after 10 years of very loyal patronage. As I write this, I am hungry and angry. They seem to have changed to Grubhub, which was news to us -- and not clear from the same online form we've always used (see screen shot below...there is no mention of Grubhub). Previously, one of the waiters delivered the food. It's the same online order form, but a new deal with Grubhub. That should be stated far more clearly on their web site! We are very very disappointed. And we won't be back. Order from Gangadin, Lal Mirch or Taste of India -- but not this place! The least they could have done was to offer us a free meal or a refund or credit. Or even apologize. But they did none of the above, and we are very disappointed. read more

2 words. Veggie Korma. The moment I place my order, anticipation grows inside of me. My nervous system is New York City in the 1800s. Just building and building and building. It's like reality as I know it falls by the wayside and the only thing I can do is float in a void of non-existence until... Ding dong... That's the door bell. Not a Hostess snack cake. The bag of life has arrived. The aroma of the Gods filters the air and permeates into every fiber of my being. I take the containers of rice and korma, inhale, and crack the lids. I'm not very methodical with it. I just tip everything into a bowl, watch the steam rise and pick up my fork. At this moment my eyes roll into the back of my head and for the next 20-30 minutes I enter a transcendental state of being as I consume this korma with no remorse. Bollywood Cafe serves an awesome Chicken Tikka Masala. I happen to like mine on the milder side and the dish still has a lot of flavor. Sometimes when you order it mild, it arrives tasteless at other restaurant. I've never had a bad dish at Bollywood Cafe though. This is definitely my favorite Indian lunch spot. They have plenty of street meter parking in front. I usually always find a spot. I ALWAYS get the chicken tikka masala lunch special for about $11. It comes with rice and naan. The proportions are just right. The naan is always soft and so so so good. I don't really like spicy, so I get mild in terms of spice. The waiters are always so gracious and attentive. My water is always refilled. I'll probably be back within the next few weeks. read more

Bollywood Cafe is a small place that's seemingly run by all dudes. They're friendly and fast, but it's a weird atmosphere, that's for sure. I got the veg samosa ($4) which tasted fine but isn't going to be something I remember tomorrow. The channa masala ($10) had a strangely creamy texture that isn't customary; I think they made the dish with coconut milk, which gave it the texture and also an unwanted sweetness. The bhendi ($10) didn't impress me but wasn't terrible. The dal tarka, made vegan by omitting butter ($10) was bland and under-seasoned. Lastly, between the parata ($3) and the roti ($3), I'd go with the roti. The parata had a hard texture. I hated that they put my to-go order in styrofoam, which seemed to warp. It's never good to put a boiling hot dish into styrofoam. I think Lal Mirch across the street is slightly better North Indian food, but if you want the best around, go to India's Restaurant in Silverlake. Assam Kitchen in North Hollywood is also pretty good, as is All India Cafe in Glendale. Swagatham, a South Indian spot in West Hills, is spectacular, but a long drive from Studio City. read more

Another very good Indian spot for covid takeout. Indian food has always been a type of comfort food for me and Bollywood did not disappoint. Going with my favorites, everything was delicious. Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, Saag Paneer, Dal, Papadums and Rice. We went with the medium spice level for everything and it was very consistent. Good flavors, good heat and the chicken was tender. I read that the Dal was thin and runny so I asked them to thicken it up for my order. It seems as if they did, as I had no complaints. The service was fine and there was no problem ordering over the phone. Everything was packed in Styrofoam containers and I didn't have to wait long to get my order. Bollywood has two different locations so be sure you call the right one when you go to pickup. While I was waiting, there were two separate customers who showed up to get their order, but they were at the wrong location. Fortunately I went to the right location and my food was delicious! read more
