I've really wanted to get to Boludo for a while as I have been reading their positive reviews for a while. We were in a bit of a conundrum here. This was our 2nd stop on our progressive dinner as they are basically right across the street from Petite Leon. We knew we had to get some empanadas but the pizza looked so good too. Well, we're going to have leftovers. We're here, we have to sample the goods was my justification. We ordered one of each of their empanada's and the Fugazzetta pizza. The empanadas were good. The crust was not overdone yet held up well with the filling. Our favs were the Jamon and Humita. The Carne was also good. They were all tasty but the Jamon even with all the cheese and the Humita were our favs. Now the unexpected was the pizza. OMG the pizza! I have had a lot of pizza in my life and I have never tasted anything like the Fugazzetta. It's really the best cheese pizza you will ever eat in your life! It's a pan style pizza with so much flavor. The cheese is really good but it's the crust that takes this pizza to another level. I am already regretting that we didn't get two of these! There is some salt on their crust but the flavor is deeper than that. Somewhat similar to Pequods out of Chicago where they cook cheese into the crust. Whatever they do, that crust is amazing! The Fugazzetta is excellent but oh that crust. There are kalamata olives which provide a nice break to the richness of the cheese with that crust. Oh my gosh I wish I lived closer to this gem! I got an empanada de jamón y queso (ham and cheese) and was blown away by just how delicious it was. And the pizza was definitely superior than any other pizza place I've been to. I could not control my self when it came to the churro donuts. They went heavy on the cinnamon which I absolutely loved! Definitely will try to make my way over here again for the delicious food. Service was great and quick! The seating area isn't huge but it works if you're just stopping in with a friend or 2. Ive never met an empanada I didn't like, and Boludo is no exception. I've wanted to come for a long time, and finally had an opportunity before a concert at the Armory in October (sorry, I'm finally getting around to finishing this long overdue review). It was busy for a weekday, but I was able to snag the very last table while my husband stood in line to order. The line took about 20 minutes to get through, and the food another 20, but we sat and enjoyed our beers, and imagined what the closed off half of the restaurant would look like - probably pretty cool (and maybe it's reopened now!) My husband and I split four kids of empanadas, plus a pizza. It was one of the most savory meals I've ever had - I loved every bite. It was a lot of food, but there were no leftovers. My only qualm was that they seemed busier than they could handle - the line was long, the water station was perpetually empty, the self-bussing station was perpetually full, etc. I hope things have smoothed out since this visit. read more

I mustered my strength & went after the lunch rush ~2pm. Parking on the street was easier to find than anticipated, This is a Tiny place. Not for a large group. The empanadas are not what they used to be. The dough have changed so much, it used to be crisp, yet soft to bite with a hand made texture. The closing was hand made, essential to a hand made empanada, they have lost that for a machine closing ("repulgue"). Went to Boludo last night for the first time ever. Ordered some food to go, for as busy as it seemed the wait times weren't bad at all. Only took about 25 mins. Ordered the pepperoni pizza, a pollo empanada, & a humita empanada. The empanadas came with a delicious chimichurri sauce that I also use to dip the pizza in. The pizza was cooked the perfect and the pepperoni was nice and crispy. The pizza had a slight sweet flavor and it was really good. The empanadas were delicious & I ate them in like 2 seconds so I forgot to take a picture lol. The humita empanada was my favorite. Definitely recommend this spot!! 10/10 read more

My wife and I were out for our weekend lunch at a new restaurant in the thriving Twin Cities restaurant scene. My wife found this small Argentinian style place, basically empanadas and pizza. This place is SMALL! Maybe 20 people can eat here, and there is one large table in the middle and counters along the wall. We ordered a pizza with argentinian chorizo, mushroom, onion, mozzarella, san marzano and a pizza with just sauce and basil. We were both disappointed by the amount of toppings we got on our pizzas, especially for the prices they charge, but the crust was so amazing, it still qualifies for 4 stars. It is a sweet sauce, but they add a sea salt or something that really mixes well with the sweetness of the sauce. Also, it wasn't greasy, which is a big plus for me. Definitely worth a try, maybe a picnic down at Lake Harriet nearby. They also have some Latino beers, $7 a piece, but they were good. read more

Major regrets in life: (1) not learning how to code, (2) convincing myself that I was straight, (3) NOT COMING TO BOLUDO EARLIER IN MY LIFE! Came here on Saturday and didn't want to leave despite gorging on empanadas to a point of near explosion. My friends and I had already eaten a little before coming here, so we only ordered 4 empanadas to share: carne, puerro, jamon y queso, and espinaca. The empanadas all came out quickly and HOT (wish that were me), and we sat outside at one of the two little tables to eat. My personal favorite was the jamon y queso empanada, followed closely by the espinaca. The fillings were so savory and rich, and the outer crusts-- which are also made and fried differently depending on the flavor of your filling-- held up surprisingly well. The empanadas on their own were already very yummy, but the chimichurri-- which is actually made in heaven-- brought it to a whole new, divine level by cutting through all of the fat. The only empanada I had reservations about was the carne filling. It was a bit heavy handed in the salt department and made even brinier with the olives mixed in; however I think it was most likely an issue specific to that one batch. Overall, I would still recommend the cheese/cream based fillings over the carne. If you can, I would also recommend eating the empanadas immediately so they are still crispy on the outside and gooey in the middle. We additionally ordered the churro donuts, but at that point we couldn't stomach any more food without violently blowing up. They still made for a good snack to munch on later in the day, especially after heating up the dulce de leche! Happy I was finally able to come to this place, and will definitely be revisiting! This pizza is something special! I opted for a Friday night pizza session and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and a beef empanada (truly blame the empanadas on selling sunset). The pizza was just amazing! The crust was fluffy and airy but crisp like some sort of wizard created it. The sauce has a hint of sweetness that balances the saltyness of the toppings. It it perfect bite after perfect bite. The empanada was ok but tbh I am not a empanada expert and the pizza was the focus so the empanada had no shot (kinda like the middle sibling). I would recommend this pizza place to anyone. Boludo is quickly becoming one of my favorite pizza places in the Twin Cities. The crust on their pizza is fantastic - you wouldn't think a bit of oil and flaked salt on the crust would make that much of a difference, but it does. We've tried both the Sarandara (aka arugula mountain) and Peras pizzas thus far and they're both excellent. Same holds true for the empanadas we've tried as well (and the addictive dipping oil it comes with). Their aggressively garlicy and peppery Caesar salad is a good add on if you want to pretend to be healthy. The folks at Boludo clearly know their way around dough and cheese. This location is small and geared primarily for takeout, which can lead to some lengthy waits at times depending on how busy they are, but this is pizza worth waiting for. read more

A slice of Argentine heaven right in the Twin Cities. I gasped mid-bite when I launched into their pizza. In my opinion, the crust is a make-or-break for a place that serves pizza. Boludo nails the art of the crust on the head! A light, salted, airy crust topped with a delicately light tomato sauce, cheese, and whatever toppings your pizza comes with. Probably one of the best pizzas I've had in the Cities thus far. I raved about this place to my friends later that day! They serve their empanadas with a delectable garlic and chili oil with herbs. I got the humita empanada, so I am not sure how the others fair. Definitely come hungry (and with Lactaid haha). Their pizzas are big enough to serve 1-2. They range from $14-$18, and you can swap a GF crust for +$3. Empanadas are $3.95/ea and you can make it GF for $1. ABSOLUTELY worth the price. I got an empanada and a pizza. I can usually eat a lot, but I still had a couple slices leftover. It's order online, and pick-up in store. I would order around 20-30 minutes before you plan on eating. What a little gem! From the moment you walk in you're entranced by the gorgeous glass case of empanadas and homemade vibes. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was poppin but also went through a few waves. Expect to be cheek to cheek or order takeout. We ordered one of each empanada and the Sarandara pizza, all gluten free. I don't have a gluten free diet but I have had a fair share of gluten free pizzas and dough items, and the empanadas and pizza dough tasted soo good I would never have suspected it to be gluten free. All of the empanadas tasted so fresh, warm, and had plenty of flavor. Of the empanadas my favorite were Pollo (chicken, peppers, oregano) and Espinaca (spinach, fresno peppers, regginato cheese). Their pizza is amazing and the empanadas are like little crispy flaky bombs of delicious flavor. The ham and cheese is my fav. The pizza isn't anywhere close to any traditional pie you've had. It's an irregular shape which makes it kinda fun and the toppings are so well crafted and combined perfectly. Boludo has been so hyped up on the local MPLS foodie scene. It's posted several times a day by the biggest names in the food industry here. The pictures are always amazing with great things to say. Which, is rightfully so. As of lately this hype has sort of made this more more difficult. Boludo means "fool, dumb, or stupid" in English. I think that successfully describes the amount of work people go through just to get these pies. To preface, I've tried to get these pies many times before. I'll order, my order gets canceled and then I call. I'm told the order will be ready at said time. Usually 2-3hours later, then I can arrive for pick up. That isn't how it works. So twice I've gone, seen a tremendous line waiting for the same thing I was. A pending order, well it turns out you have to check in to even get your order started. The line being more than a block long makes that difficult. So if you plan on getting this pizza. Set aside 2-4 hours extra due to the current pandemic. That aside I made the decision it was finally time to sit and be patient. The night was warmer than usually and I had time to wait and wait I did. I ordered online at 4pm for ASAP pick up. My order got canceled. Called, was told it would be ready at 7:45pm. Thankfully, having experienced the line I went earlier to beat the rush. I arrive close to 7. Waited in line, got to the door. They asked for my name, and as I told them. They looked my canceled order up. Turns out that they don't actually have a time or a slot for you. It's just sorta a wing it type thing. Where if you happen to call in and actually show up and check in. Then they start the pie. I was told it would be ready at 7:50pm at this point it was 7:40pm. I once again waited outside until about 8:20pm. Where finally I was blessed with my order. This process was very frustrating for everyone in line. Upon receiving the order, I literally ran to the car and found a parking spot immediately. I started to inspect the goods. A pepperoni pizza, their anniversary pizza called Portèno and of course the highly reviewed churro donuts. All things considered to get my hands on these the looks were unique but not quite as pictured on their Instagram. They still looked wonderful. The aroma also immediately filled my car and it was super savory and made me crave these pies even more. I attempted to pick up my first slice. Then the disappointment set in. The first pie I had was the Portèno. (7/10) It was super, I mean. Super soggy. It was stuck to the actually cardboard. Immediately I knew my order was rushed. Or maybe this is how all their pies are? Anyways I let that slide. With a fist full of toppings and crush. (It all fell off) I shoved the ingredients into my mouth and WOW! The taste was outstanding, very alternative to a mainstream pizza. The sauce blends so well with all the spices. While the dough lacked structure it had such a wonderful ability to melt in the mouth. The only note I would make is the cheese was lacking. Especially compared to pictures via Instagram. Overall, it was a wonderful pie and respectable. The pepperoni (7/10) was very similar, soggy and dare I say overly greasy experience (BRING NAPKINS). The pepperoni seemed unique and I enjoyed that flavor alone. Again the crust stood out and was super flavorful. The cheese balance here was much better and super well balanced. As for its appearance it's quite obvious you aren't eating your average pie. I must recommend this as well. A very respectable pizza and one that shines in uniqueness. The churro donuts (9/10) I'm not quite sure what to say. The dough, outstanding. The sugar, unreal. The sauce, to die for. These were the highlight of my experience. If nothing else, please come and try these. They will put most donut shops to shame. The service in general here was very rough which should be detailed in my experience. In fairness, they are extremely overwhelmed with their restrictions and the volume of orders coming in on a nightly basis. The fact they are functioning at the level they are is quite impressive alone. All the employees are VERY passionate about what they are doing and it's quite obvious. Everyone was breaking a sweat to bust out multiple hundreds of orders. I just think that in itself may bring down the individuals experience and unfortunately people project that as the company mistreating them as a whole. Overall experience (6/10) It would be much higher if I hadn't had to wait outside, my order hadn't been lost, and the pizza was cooked a bit longer. I find this hard to give them such a rating because I can tell this is due to the circumstances at hand and don't blame them at all. The cheese spinach pie was actually better than the best ones. Very interesting that their meat wasn't extraordinary. It will take them very little to get there. The dough had too much lard. Pizza was good! Flan was not the jello like consistency of other flan I have have but more of a very heavy custard. The ratio of flan to the caramel topping was off, waaay too much caramel. My finance and I tried Boludo for the first time 2 weekends ago. We got a pepperoni pizza and 3 different empanadas (chicken, ham, and beef). I have nothing but good things to say about the food. The pepperoni pizza was full of flavor and spices and wonderful goodness. Not your average pepperoni pizza, that's for sure. The empanadas were all fantastic too. Again, I was shocked by the amount of flavor that each contained. I like the ham one the best because the cheese was perfectly melty and bubbly inside. The downside: we ordered online around 430 on a Saturday evening. It was an ASAP order, but it was 75 min projected wait time to go pick up. When we did go to pick it up, we waited an additional 20 minutes in line. The system wasn't great but these COVID restrictions have been tough on everyone. Wow! Just wow. Heard about this place eating sushi the night before. Had an excellent meal at Petite Leon and were asking for places they liked for pizza. Didn't mention Boludo so I asked and they said "I always forget about that place and it's right around the corner". My sis loves her pizza so we decided to have a slice for dessert and save the rest for lunch. This place is so amazing. The vibe was perfect. Little dark, just a few tables, playing bad bunny in the background and the Pizza was fire! Crust was just the right amount of crunch and chewy. We had the Peperoni and the onion/kalamata olive. Boludo seriously has the best takeout in Minnesota. Fresh empanadas, pizza and salads. I order from Boludo frequently and I will also crave the pear and blue cheese pizza. It is seriously the best pizza you'll find in Minnesota. There is just something perfect about the slightly sweet crust, fresh savory cheese, and salty toppings that makes for the ultimate flavor bomb. Nothing else like it in the twin cities (or at least that I've found!) My husband and I take a monthly date night. We always are finding a small business place to try out and we found this. We ordered our pizza and the Churro donuts (and of course picked up beer from our favorite brewery!!) and headed out to a picnic at Lake Harriet. The pizza was SO good. My husband said it's his new number one pizza. Next time we won't share as it was a little small for both of us but we didn't know. My only gripe is when we ordered there was still no indoor seating and we placed an order online. There was not anyway to set a time to pick up.
