Just a weird experience. Food was average, but my order was missing a main component. When I went in to ask about it, they said "sorry, we're out." They were dismissive and unapologetic. To me, it was as simple as informing at the time of order. The manager on duty seemed to share the mentality of the person who took the order. They didn't offer a refund or way to resolve the issue, so for me it's a hard pass on returning. There are so many other great places in the area. read more

OK so I'm updating my review based on my latest visit to Bomba. My first experience wasn't great. It wasn't awful either but there was certainly room for improvement. And improve they did. I am very happy to report that my second visit was delightful and that a lot of the suggestions I made in my first review were implemented. You can now order from the counter and refill your own water. I'd still like to see slightly larger water glasses but that isn't a huge deal. And the food was absolutely amazing. Great job Bomba! Pleasantly surprised to find this place, thanks to Yelp, of course!! Cute little deli on busy corner, in the heart of vibrant Asheville. We tried the the Hop On Hop Off tour thingy and decided to hop off cuz tummies were growling. Checked Yelp right away and WALAH, Bomba was right there, on the opposite corner! We will definitely come back when we're in town. Really good Cuban sandwich (maybe on grilled challah?) and Tuna Nicoise sandwich (yes, you read that right!). We enjoyed sitting outside watching the people, busy corner, interesting folk, construction across the street. Bomba even had beer, smoothies, wine. TOTAL TOURIST TRAP RIPOFF Food was poor quality ( except for the really good french fries ). Roast beef very tough. Only ate part. No one asked about me leaving over a bunch of the lunch. Did care to ask if everything was okay. They asked if we wanted anything to drink. We said no, just water. They gave us an open bottle of water & 2 glasses. That's normal in a lot of restaurants, except they didn't mention there was a $6 charge!! When paying, they just handed us a little machine to use our credit card with - no breakdown of charges, just a spot to add a tip ( right in front of them!! ) and that's just wrong. YUM!!! This Yelp find was perfect for a quick breakfast! It's tiny inside with seating outside as well. My husband and I both ordered coffee then a bomba roll with chicken and Americano respectively. He loved the hot sauce and said it just added to how good the bomba roll was! My eggs were so good, especially mixed with the potatoes and the bacon was cooked perfectly. This is a small space restaurant for sure, easy to miss right in the corner. Pay attention because it's a mistake to pass it by! Simple menu with a great selection of beer, wine and even some homemade soda/lemonade options. The Latin food here is authentic and comforting. Tourist trap! We thought because the reviews were high that the food would be great ... but it is not. It truly is a tourist trap restaurant. I ordered shrimp chiliquiles and got a plate of a watery sauce and shrimp. When I asked where the green chili sauce that goes with dish, he stated they they were out! Unbelievable!! How can you serve a $23 plate of chiliquiles if you don't have the green chili sauce??? - that is what makes it! So many great restaurants in Asheville - this is not one of them. Avoid!! read more

We passed Bomba on our self-led walking tour of downtown Asheville... and even though it was 10 in the morning, I was ready to eat everything on the menu. So by the time lunch rolled around, we made our way back! I ordered the roast pork with arepas, which came with roast veggies and a salad. I cleaned my plate, y'all. It was perfect! The hubs got roast chicken, pupusas, veggies and salad. His was awesome, too! The food was amazing, but my favorite part was ordering un café cubano. It was the best espresso drink I've ever had. It was strong, sweet, and the salt on top added just the right touch! Can't wait to go back! read more

Bomba was a reasonably good lunch stop. I was prepared to love it but a few kinks need to be worked out. I ordered the 1/4 dark charcoal chicken with two sides and one sauce, and my hubby had a Cubano with fries. My MIL also ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. Bomba is small and has a cafe feel with two working the line/food running and one cashier. In my opinion they could work out their ordering and table service system a bit better. You order at the counter - I think? - unless the person at the register has time and comes to your table. However you order, you wait for your check to be delivered to your table, not pay at the register. It can be quite a wait. The cashier is multitasking, delivering food and making coffee drinks in addition to taking orders and dropping checks. The woman helping us, who might be an owner, seemed flustered/annoyed, and I was turned off by her curt tone with us in several interactions. There are enough restaurants with full service and better food that I was not impressed with the attitude. On to the food: the fries and charcoal chicken both seem to be made ahead and held, so they lose the fresh crispiness you find in pollo a la brassa joints with high turnover elsewhere. The marinade on the chicken was deeply savory and delicious, but the skin was super soggy, and the leg meat was slightly dried out like it had been sitting. Because all the sides were piled on the entree plates, the chicken juices soaked the pupusa and tortillas, and the salad made the fries soggy. My pupusa was very cheesy and tasty, but slightly undercooked and the kimchi listed on the menu was missing. The chicken meatball soup was fine, but I didn't find the broth to be all it was talked up to be on the menu (tasted like chicken base). The toasted flour tortillas seemed homemade, or at least well made. Sandwiches were pretty good - legit Cuban bread according to my husband. It was a pretty good rendition if not his favorite ever. They got my MIL's order completely wrong and it was a bit of a wait for the correct menu item. Bummer. Would we return? Maybe if we were downtown and craving Salvadorian/Peruvian fare. The pastries and cookies look amazing and we're more likely to stop in for a to-go coffee and treat than another meal, given these hiccups. YMMV though. read more

Food was good. No complaints there except my wife ordered the arepas she asked for scrambled eggs done more than soft. It came with fried eggs runny at that. About 5 minutes into the meal my wife realized there was no sausage or smoked sweet potatoes. We asked the server why the eggs were not scrambled where was the sausage and sweet potatoes. Her response..... we're out of sausage and sweet potatoes and the chef has another restaurant to go to so there is no time to remake your meal. She says to us in amazement that's just the way it is. Never had a chef decide what you will get in spite of what you ordered. You all need to have a chat with your wait staff and your chef. No way you should treat a customer like that. read more

The story of our visit to Bomba actually begins the morning before. We ate at the restaurant next-door and were so envious of the delicious plates we could see being served at Bomba. So the next day it was our first stop. We had 6 guests and they set up a table for all of us in their small space. Our server, Sebastien, told us about the specials and was able to make recommendations and accommodations for food allergies. The food was as amazing as we expected and Bomba has been added to our list of restaurants we will return every time we are in Asheville. I had the Arepa Perico--overall excellent, scrambled eggs, sweet potato, large sausage patty on top of greens delicious, but the cheese stuffed arepa was tasteless. This is such a cute little spot in downtown Asheville! I've always loved this corner storefront location. It has been several things over the years but Bomba is the perfect fit! You are welcomed by friendly faces and a lovely chalkboard menu filled with savory delights. I had the breakfast tacos. WOW! Little masterpieces on a tortilla! Artful in presentation and absolutely perfect in layers of flavor. Nothing ordinary about these. Base of black beans with fresh live ingredients topped with a fried egg and a sauce that takes it to another level! Highly recommend this as a breakfast stop. They have a few outdoor tables to watch the peculiar, fascinating and entertaining passers by that make Asheville the special place that it is. This little restaurant is another one of local Chef Hector Diaz' amazing creations. The wife and I were in great need of caffeine on our first morning in Asheville. I hadn't scoped out any coffee places to visit but we sure lucked out with Bomba. The location is ideal at the start of Biltmore avenue and in the middle of the downtown area it's perfect to experience all that Asheville has to offer from hippies to hipsters and street musicians with and without shoes. I basically went with their espresso topped off with coffee on 2 occasions, while the wife tried their iced dirty chai and a latte on separate visits. The service or at least the time to get our coffee drinks was slow, but there was only one person serving on both occasions. They do take care in making their coffee drinks, so I will give a pass on that. I was also surprised to see that such a small space serves sandwiches as well as coffee. We did not partake in any sandwich options, but the menu had me salivating.
