We went back recently, and tried some more items on the menu. Again- great food and pleasant staff. The owners made sure we were happy with everything, and made different suggestions. We will definitely come back after this again and again. We ordered chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, and also tandoori chicken. The naan, as usual, was great. I was a loyal customer here but not anymore with my last visit. Today when I placed my pick up order I was surprise to find out they now charge for rice. $3 for a small side of rice is ridiculously expensive when rice does not cost that much. If I have known it was that price of rice prior to placing my order I would have made my own rice at home. Secondly, as I was ready to eat my dinner they gave me the wrong entree from what I ordered. I always order butter chicken and chicken korma but what they gave me was not butter chicken at all. They completely did not check when bagging my pick up order. Lastly from not wanting to make the 15 minute drive to have them fix my order, I went ahead and just ate the mystery entree. Both the mystery entree and chicken korma looked very WATERED DOWN. The flavors were SEVERELY LACKING. It was the most disappointing and overly expensive meal. I'm sad to say they have lost me as a customer. I don't understand why the owners have changed their business and cooking practices because it's not like the restaurant was hurting. Just because it's the only nearby Indian restaurant doesn't mean you run it the way it currently come. I will make the drive to Katy to get my Indian food cravings now. read more

Was really pleasantly surprised. We order the chicken tikka masala, the butter chicken, the lamb vindaloo, shrimp and of course the garlic naan. Was very tasty. If you get spicy be prepared for it to be hot, otherwise go medium. Oh we also ordered the samosas for an appetizer, and they were great. Unless you want to go up highway 6, there aren't too many good initial places that I am aware of around Richmond, but Bombay is great. read more

A friend of mine suggested that we meet for lunch at this restaurant. I saw some of the previous negative reviews, so I admit that I was a bit skeptical about the food and service at Bombay Grill. I will tell you that the previous negative reviewers are insane. The food was excellent! And no, I am hardly a "super white person living in Richmond", as one previous reviewer inelegantly stated. I mean, who says something like that anyway? Ignorance... Now, on to the food. We arrived there right around 3 PM for a late lunch. There were no other patrons, because of the hour and the pandemic. The service was quick and courteous, and in fact the staff there were very attentive, friendly and warm. I had the chicken tikka masala, rice and garlic naan. My companion had the chicken korma. We both found the food perfectly spiced to our taste buds - spicy but not too crazy about it. We enjoyed the calm of having the place to ourselves, and definitely will come back when we have a hankering for good Indian food. I'd like to attribute the negative reviews to the transition all restaurants went through because of covid-19. Its been a challenging time for everyone, and the restaurant industry has been profoundly affected. The restaurant is small with a casual atmosphere. The walls are painted yellow with Indian artwork on both sides of dining room walls. The restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere with folks leisurely discussing dinner and their day. Bombay Grill is a small restaurant with 3 2-top tables & 7 4-top tables. Appears to be many regulars here tonight and not overly crowded for a Friday evening. They also do a nice carryout business. Their Spiced Chai Tea ($2) was such a difference from the Spiced Chai from Starbucks or other Indian restaurants. The flavors were good, intense but one cup was enough. The Appetizers Chicken Pakora ($5) is long, chicken nuggets marinated in a blend of spices, dipped in light, tender batter and fried. Incredibly tender chicken and melts in your mouth. I could have an entire meal of Chicken Pakora and highly recommend. Garlic Naan ($3) is fine flour bread stuffed with garlic and cilantro. All breads are baked fresh to order with 10 different types of Naan. The bread was tender with crispy, charred areas on the bread. Honestly the best Naan I've ever had. Chicken Makhani ($11) is julienne tandoori chicken cooked in a creamy tomato sauce and served with a side of rice. Only two spice levels available of mild or spicy but spicy was truly on the very mild side. I need to ask them to kick up the spice level on my next trip. Walking in, you feel like it's a library with a hint of bleach smell.... the music was very faint, I could hear maybe Asian theme music... I'm slightly Colosterphobic, so it helps me to sit at somewhat bigger tables (2 of us like to sit at 4 seat table)... that wasnt gonna happen.... so we sat anyways, the owner wasnt too polite... demanded we gave him drink orders just barely sitting... The best Indian around! We love Jay! We bring our 10 month old daughter in and love the interaction she has with him! We used to order just generic things in the menu like chicken korma, goat Briyani, etc. We finally asked Jay to kind of surprise us and we have not been let down yet! Went there for dinner. First impression: Bare tables, no music. No atmosphere. We were waited on by the owner, Mr. Personality. Not a smile passed on this man's face. Ordered my entree and continued to add rice and bread. He said: Oh no! First he take orders from the whole table for entree then he would take my order for bread. I wanted rice. No, he said, wait and after I got my entree if I still wanted rice THEN I could tell him. WTH? Entrees were very good but had to flag Mr. Personality down and ask for the bread I ordered. Reading other reviews I can't understand why some folks laud the service...he kept ragging on my grandson to eat. (The kid's a slow eater). I ordered a Chicken Curry and when it came out and I took a bite, I was concerned that it may have had milk in it. In the past, I had ordered the same dish here and was assured that it did not (which rings true at every other Indian Restaurant I've dined in). This time, however, I was told it did. When I explained to the manager/proprietor/cook that I get sick when I eat dairy, she said she could make me another one, but I'd have to pay full price for it! She said it was my mistake because I did not tell the young man who took my order that I had such dietary restrictions. The young man who took our order was short with us and gave little opportunity for us to do much of anything besides order our food. He took our order by rudely asking us "Whatta you want?" and then promptly avoided eye contact. The proprietor told me that there was only a little bit of cream in the curry (less than a teaspoonful). I decided that I would risk it (and take medicine later if needed). But then asked me what happens when I eat dairy, and I told her I get sick when I eat it. She again suggested that I get the curry remade, and pay for both, so I would not suffer. Mind you, I had already made peace with my decision, but couldn't shake the notion that she was trying to goad me into another curry (again at full price!) When I said that at this point, I'd rather just eat somewhere else, she insisted that I pay for the food before I leave (the food I did not and would not eat). There was also talk of the police being called out if I did not pay. It was all very desperate, which is not surprising, considering it was dinnertime on Friday and we were one of only two tables in there. How a serious business owner can be ok with losing a customer for life over a $14 curry is beyond me, but quite frankly, I'm surprised anyone goes in there at all, considering the abysmal customer service. Serious question: How does someone get away with this practice? I mean, what if I had a food allergy (and not just lactose intolerance)? What if I had gone into anaphylactic shock? What if I had died? As long as she was able to charge me for 2 curries, I'm sure she'd sleep just fine at night! read more

It is not a fancy place but the folks here are very friendly. The food is 5++++ stars!! I had the Chicken Curry which was incredible. We also had the Chicken Tikka Marsala which was amazing.
