Was in the mood for some Indian food and Bombay cafe came up on my search so I decided to give it a go. I ordered butter chicken, saag paneer and onion kulcha to go. I was super excited to eat it but was very disappointed with the poor quality. The onion kulcha was below average and had 0 flavor not to mention it was undercooked and dry as a bone. Caveat: I'm not an expert on Indian cuisine. In fact I always let my wife order for me. Nevertheless.... Things started out with great promise. All the appetizers, tomato soup, and breads were fine. We ordered four main courses and specified medium spicy. Everything came out bland and I mean bland. Only the chicken tikka masala had any real flavor. The drink and wine prices are very moderate. Should we return I suspect we will go heavy on the small dishes, breads and beer and stop right there. Our waitress was pleasant, but at the end of the meal after the plates were cleared we were left with a table strewn with rice. After 15 min I had to ask to have the table cleaned. Tonight (a Sunday evening) the restaurant did not live up to its 4 star reviews. We will give it one more try as it is only 10 min from our house. read more

I went here for lunch but guess what- no more lunch buffet. I don't know why they don't do what other buffets do and have gloves and plexiglass to protect everyone. Instead it is a sit down menu- same menu for lunch and dinner. And for lunch I think it is expensive. I would really just go for dinner these days. read more

Had a basic dish (chicken vindaloo) to try out this restaurant under new ownership. It was excellent. We were given papadum with chutney to start. The combination was spicy good. The vindaloo was served with warm garlic naan. We asked for it spicy and it was just right. We were given ample portions of tender chicken. We will return. Only complaint was that the menu presented was from the old ownership and the new owners offerings are limited (but good). This should ne made clear to the guests when they are seated to avoid confusion. read more

We went here after reading the glowing reviews, deciding to try their lunch buffet to try different dishes. I'm writing this to save others from expecting excellent Indian food at this restaurant. So, first of all, I know good Indian food. The tandoori chicken was so dry, I couldn't eat it (it was brought out fresh). The chicken curry was way below par. Other dishes were bland. We had to flag down a server to get water after being empty for some time. I have no idea why this Indian restaurant received 3-5 star reviews! A very tasty lunch today and very flavorful! One server and one person in the kitchen serving up dishes for a busy crowd. The server had a system that was working very well for the booths, tables and take outs that were going on during our visit. I ordered the Lamb Masala and my wife ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both dishes were tender, wonderful and just enough spice to perk up the taste buds. We were satisfied with our wait time and the quality of food we ordered and enjoyed. This is by far the best Indian cuisine in Boca Raton! Every item is freshly made with care and thought. I have tried many items on the menu and all are delicious from lamb to tradition chicken dishes. I have sent my friends here and they too agree that it doesn't get much better. Had a great dinner with friends tonight. Service and food was excellent. Shared samosas, papadums, naan, lamb Rogan Josh, goat curry and aloo gobi. Highlight: Speaking for their weekday buffet. So it's kind of my fault for going towards the end of their 12-3 shift, but it doesn't change my overall opinion that the food selection was all orange, pretty greasy, and could be better in their vegetarian selection and their heavy use of rubbery dark meat for their curries and dishes. I wished they did not use veggies that took up a lot of oil and offered some lighter and cleaner dishes to balance the palate out after heavy creamy and oily dishes. I've frequented Indian buffets up and down the East coast from Rochester to Miami and this place was a-ok. 12.95$ for lunch buffet is a little steep for what they do here. Vegetarian: They had mushroom and eggplant, which for those who are not familiar with Indian cuisine are heavy oily veggies. Eggplant can pack a lot of oil and is notorious sponge veggie that just reeks of oil with one bite. Good if you're hungry but makes you feel heavy and gross afterward when you're done. Mushroom was an interesting selection and would have been good if they had paired other options that I've seen done before with vegetable aloo (cauliflower, potatoes, carrots that I've seen before), saag paneer (spinach cottage cheese, or really, Saag anything would have contributed some color to this very orange spread of veggies). I recommend this establishment add more vegetarian options instead of just veggies that are oily. Paneer- In my honest opinion, b/c paneer is a cottage cheese dish, it is best with either a tomato base or spinach base sauce to complement its creaminess. This place chose to use an almond creamy sauce which may sound like heaven to some but is a huge heavy dish. It would be like dousing Alfredo sauce over a 5 cheese Tortellini already at your 50% fat intake of the day. Overkill already alongside with an oily spread. Be care of this dish for those who are sensitive to grease. Meats: This place tends to use kosher dark chicken meat which is great when the meats are hot and fresh, but I've come here for the dinner option and now lunch, and the problem about dark meat is that it has a tendency to taste a little rubbery after some time if the turnover rate is slow. I recommend they try breast meat b/c it is firmer but also more muscular and thus not as fatty. Fatty thigh meat is great but does not go well with even heavier and fatty curries and sauces. The meats tend to come out chewy at this restaurant compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. Frieds- I remember this place liking their deep frieds which is good if fresh but dangerous b/c if left sitting outside too long will get soggy and stale by 2:00 p.m. I recommend that since the frieds look like they are sitting that long, the establishment consider looking into investing into vegetarian options that can stay viable longer and add more color to their spread. read more

It took awhile to place our orders and our drink order took awhile to appear. My appetizer .. vegetable pakora was not very warm. The main entrees were all good. As someone who has traveled in India extensively and lived in London for many years, I do love my curry. My favorite Bombay Cafe dish is the vegetarian biriani, basically a vegetable and rice casserole. Although I am not a vegetarian, I find biriani and curry better without meat usually.
