I finally got to Bonchon today. I could never get in when they first opened up a year ago, and when I did get in, the wait was long. I also thought the prices were a bit high for what you got, but I thought - until today - these were smaller drumsticks and wings. For the fried drum sticks, they're full size. That's why he's charging what he's charging. And it's all worth the money and the wait. Oh, my goodness! The mixture of salt and sweet on the soy flavor is nicely balanced for the fried drug sticks and the chicken strips that I ordered tonight. Yes, the wait is longer than fast food. But this isn't fast food. Ricky, the owner, came out to check on me. He explained to me that he and his team make each order fresh. He doesn't pre-cook his food, then sling it out for general consumption. He's a small business owner who's clearly working his tail off to take care of his customers and serve good food. But the costs of making the food and keeping the restaurant open during a pandemic are TOUGH. He admitted he wasn't sure how long he could keep going. He's hoping to just make his money back that he invested in the franchise. Growing up, my mom used to make Korean fried chicken for parties and special occasions. She died 16 years ago. The last meal she ever made for me before she went to the hospital was - Korean fried chicken. Since then, I've searched for Korean fried chicken like she used to make it. When I searched her recipe box, she just listed the ingredients. I tried making it once. It wasn't the same. Tasting Bonchon's chicken, smelling it - it was like being home again, around my mom. Ricky told me that Bonchon means "home" in Korean. I'll be back. Guarantee it. Not just because this is the best Korean fried chicken around here, but because Ricky cares and does it right. I had a wonderful experienced at Bonchon! The customer service is AMAZING! The food is SO GOOD!!! I order the medium combo (wings and drum sticks) with half and half on the sauce and I also order the pork belly sandwich. They finally opened a Bonchon in Portland, and I could not be more ecstatic! I tried this place the first week they opened, I ordered the Medium Combo: wings and drumstick, Spicy soy garlic, and soy garlic. The crispyness of the chicken and/or the sauce was lacking, and the wait was confusingly long. I will say their radish sides were abundant, and very refreshing. So I decided to not come back until 1 month later. Since they were new I wanted to allow them time to learn the recipe and make it the Bonchon way. And I'm so glad I waited. I Ordered the same as I initially did, and the wait time was much shorter, and the crispyness was perfect, and there was sauce all over the chicken. However after the expected time I went up to the counter to ask how much longer of a wait, and turns out my order was ready, but had just been sitting there getting cold. Bad customer service , my daughter loves the chicken there . Not, me I don't like it , I don't know what kind of spices or breading they use , I always get sick when I eat from this place . But last time on June 19 we when around 4:30 pm there was a girl taking the orders , we order the family deal they have for 40 dollars we always order the same we switch the regular fries for season fries , this time this girl didn't want to do it . She said is not posible , how come they always do it , anyways we order regular fries . she was on her phone really rude. Not paying attention at all . KFC! KFC! I finally got to try this place after hearing a lot of hype and it was so good! We got the family meal, with half spicy half garlic chicken, fried rice, fries and radish. Everything was delicious even after bringing it home to eat. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, fries was crispy and radish offered a nice cool option because the spicy chicken has heat. You have been warned. Never order when starving. The lead times are at least an hour so plan ahead. The food is DELICIOUS!!! Don't walk in expecting KFC/Popeye's prices, you are going to pay a premium but WOW it's worth it. It's delicious, crispy and flavorful. I'm going to tell you that I'm not a fan of wings, but I got convinced to get them. I ordered a small half spicy and half soy garlic. It was worth it. 10 pieces was way too much for me so better sharing it with someone and then getting the nice palette cleanser with the pickled radishes. The second time we got chicken breast and it wasn't the same. The coating on the outside isn't as crispy as the wings are. So the third time we went we got the wings and I'm never straying again. This last time we ordered the glass noodles and it was a bit greasy to my liking so I think I may stick to more basic sides since we're already getting fried chicken. I went to Bonchon to try their Korean style "Signature Fried Chicken". With fried chicken, I had the choice of drumsticks, wings, boneless wings, chicken strips, or a combination of drumsticks and wings. Then I choose if I wanted it prepared with soy garlic sauce or spicy sauce or half and half. I ordered the chicken strips prepared with half soy garlic and half spicy sauce. I usually like to try a variety of flavors if given the choice. The strips had a hard crunchy coating on them...actually a little too crunchy for me (but that's just my own preference). The sauces were coated onto each piece. The soy garlic tasted just as the name implied...slightly salty and garlicky. The spicy pieces were really very spicy (to me)...my mouth and lips felt 'burnt' after eating the first one...for people who like spiciness, THIS is the one to get. OK, the fried chicken wasn't especially appealing to me in any way. If I go back to Bonchon again, I'd order something else for sure. read more

Went here last Thursday with a friend and got the medium combo to-go, we only had to wait 15 minutes for our order and the workers were all really nice and helpful. I've been to Bonchon several times back home (Bay Area) and I can say that the quality is pretty consistent and everything tasted really good. Thanks Bonchon for trying your best during COVID times and with the large crowds that show up at all times. I ordered the medium combo for myself (mistake, because it was bigger than my appetite). The crispness on the chicken wings/drumstick was there. The drumstick was fried perfectly and the white meat looked very fresh inside. I chose the half and half flavor but... when I opened the box, it looked like all the wings were jumbled in there and I couldn't really taste the difference between either flavors at that point. Other than that, food was good. I would definitely come again for the food. The service was a little "off." A customer in front of me asked the cashier if he would receive a call when his order would be ready, the cashier replied "that's why i got your number." I felt that it was a bit rude to say. I even provided my number and he said he would call me, he didn't provide an ETA either. About 40 minutes of not getting a call and going in there and asking for my order, to find out it was just sitting on the shelf. I guess that's why the cashier got my number... Anyway, will try the food again once the crowd/hype dies down, maybe the food will be prepared quicker and the customer service isn't as rude. read more

We ordered at 1:09pm and the order was completed at 4:20pm. We ordered in person on 8/3/2020 (soft opening). The online ordering for this location was shut down. The double fried wings were delicious, crunchy and had the right amount of spiciness. No dipping sauces necessary. The Korean Tacos were very flavorful. The coleslaw was delicious. We weren't too pleased with the wait time, but given the overwhelming demand it was understandable. read more

We've had their wings in Seattle and NYC. By far, this one doesn't follow the same method of putting their things together. The wings are dry and overly battered. The sauce on the wings are inconsistent and it's just not the same as the other sister restaurants. Considering they are new but belong to the same franchise umbrella, one should expect consistency. It was their soft opening so hiccups were to be expected. From the time I put in my order to it being delivered was 2 hours, their online ordering system seemed to have been completely overwhelmed. The online ordering system was very easy to use and I had no problems with it. Staff though was very nice and apologetic for the long wait, bringing out water for people waiting in the sun. I ordered the soy garlic chicken strips and fries. The chicken was a little on the dry side but had a great crisp and the taste was delicious! Huge disclaimer** chicken is made to order and they take Atleast 30 minutes to make. Call in ahead of time or prepare to wait. They only state this in very small print on the back of their paper menus which are only accessible at the restaurant itself. Biggest surprise was why my chicken was cold if it was literally "cooked to order". If I can be totally honest, I've been to korean mom and pop corner stores that had a better establishment than this. I've had korean fried chicken from a mom and pop store that's been sitting all day under a heat lamp and is better than this. We also ordered a soy garlic chicken bibimbap and received a veggie bibimbap. When they gave us the second bibimbap it was spicy chicken, still not our correct order but we left with it cause we didn't want to wait any longer. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDERS!!!!!!! This is the flavor you crave after 10 beers or 4 shots in. I'd expect this type of service and quality from the crappy karaoke bar that stays open till 6am some how. I have to say these wings are hands down the best restaurant wings. The spicy wings are my favorite- the more you eat the hotter they get. The bulgogi is awesome. My sister told me this was the chicken heaven of fried chicken. Ordered the combo meal. 10 wings & 5 drumsticks. It's not 10 wings. It's 10 wing pieces. (Industry rip-off!!). I chose 1/2 soy garlic & 1/2 spicy. The store front is on the south side of The Clackamas Mall. There were numbered parking spots for pickup which made it easy & convenient. Called in gave them my spot number & about 15 minutes later she brot my bag of food out. Got home & prepped some side dishes. Asian pickled carrots & radish. Takuan Japanese yellow pickled radish. Shoyu. And waited for my sister. The chicken was OK. Different w the coating flavor. But to tell the truth. The quality wasn't any better than "spicy Popeyes"!!! They're pretty busy, even during COVID. But I couldn't be happier that they opened a location in Portland. The fried chicken is what they're known for! Can't go wrong with their wings. The chicken is amazing, and super crispy even hours later. The pork buns are great as well. For the sides, I would pick the coleslaw. The pickled radish (which is a staple side dish for Korean fried chicken) is very bland at Bonchon. (Normally it is tart and crunchy - I make it at home.) But that is my only complaint! I had a great experience! The workers were extremely fun and friendly. The food was so good. I came there really hungry so I ordered a lot of food with high expectations and they were met! We ordered the half spicy half soy garlic strips. The spicy was my favorite. It's not too spicy where you can't eat it but it has a kick. My personal opinion is that the soy garlic sauce was almost to salty for my taste but it was still good so I recommend you try it on your own. The pickled radish is super tasty. I also ordered kimchi bacon fried rice. That stuff was SO good; the bacon gave it a nice smoky flavor. And they have flavored soju!!!! I was so excited. The only thing I would not recommend would be the bibimbap. To me it seemed like a fast food version of it and I just didn't care for it but that doesn't matter; I'm going back again and again! read more

I've had Bon Chon on the east coast and this tastes very much like their other locations. Price is a bit spendy and expect the wait to be long. The chicken is indeed the best Korean Fried Chicken in town however there aren't many options in Portland. Wing size is a bit small but the drums are rather large.
