Authentic pho on a gray November day is gonna be good. This is my least 'foodie' review, but this is a strip mall location. The host was really friendly, the bowl of beef pho was generous, and the sides were fresh and plentiful. I was also (and uncharacteristically) served 2 new sides- a sweet chili crisp-ish sauce, and a hot pickled pepper in chili sauce. Both were good. We had two different pho's and egg rolls. The pho was amazing, some off the best I have had and I usually do not like egg rolls, but I would order them again as they were amazing. The service was great. I wish there were more people in there. I would hope they stay in business. We will definitely go back and hope next time it's just as good. read more

Mai Asia is a real hidden gem. Tucked away in a strip mall just a minute from Fred Meyer in Tualatin, it is just waiting to be discovered. It's a family-run place, and the owner is extremely friendly. Everything is cooked fresh in the kitchen, which is right there in the open for you to see. The lemongrass beef (#15) is so outstanding that I can't bring myself to order any other entree! My friends and relatives have ordered other dishes, though, and they loved them. Very disappointed! We only ate here because of the reviews. Lesson learned. We had a variety of the dishes pork, chicken, pho, salad and egg rolls. The best tasting item were the egg rolls. The dishes were loaded with sugar and too sweet. This is not your usual Vietnamese cuisine of grilled pork or chicken over vermicelli. It's basically a stir fry with a lot of filler onions and sugary syrup thrown on noodles! The cook made no effort to make the dishes. The salad was loaded with sugar. The lemongrass dishes were too sweet and cannot taste the lemongrass flavor. Every dish was so sweet we threw it away and was a waste of money. I have never eaten such terrible Vietnamese cuisine! The sugar just disguises how terrible the food was. The only good thing was we supported a struggling business. I would NOT come back. People were too generous with their ratings! read more

Hmmmmm, where do I begin? We have been all over Asia and Vietnam, but this restaurant do not deserve the high ratings it has. Had to try this place because of the good reviews. We ordered the crab & shrimp soup(Bun Rieu) that had 3 tiny chicken slivers, tomatoes and a couple of thin sliced of meatloaf. Taste like coconut soup instead. We also ordered grilled lemongrass chicken over vermicelli noodles. It was served on a plate with the stir fried onions with tiny slivers of chicken, maybe about half of a thigh with cabbage. Mai Asia Restaurant is a small mom and pop place serving Vietnamese food. Yen commands the kitchen with over 18 years as a chef, while Trung handles the customers. You are warmly welcomed the moment you step inside. Trung is the most gracious and hospitable restaurant owner I've ever encountered. His customer service is worth five stars. My friend and I came by for lunch today. We ordered red curry with veggies, no meat and fried rice with veggies, no meat. The red curry had a nice flavor but tasted too mild for my palette. The fried rice was lacking flavor and contained mostly frozen bag veggies topped with fried onion pieces. I would not order it again. However, we watched several other dishes go by on their way to other tables that looked quite good. So this may be a case of our not ordering the chef's best dishes. The dining area is not large but there appears to be an adequate number of tables for the amount of customers dining in. It is nicely decorated. The entire place was very clean, including the rest rooms. Final analysis, food 3.5 stars, dining atmosphere 4 stars, customer service 5 stars. I plan to return and try other dishes. read more

We recently revisited Mai Asian and we're delighted to see the interior had gotten a face lift and the food had definitely improved. Enough so that we went back a second time not long after our initial revisit. The same gentle and cordial man took our order and served us as before -- he gives off the energy of a long-lost friend welcoming you into his warm kitchen. The pho was very tasty and the accompanying noodle dish great as well. The only drawback is that food is slow to come out (it's made fresh by one person), and as such, if you plan to get takeout, order by phone ahead of time. read more

The broth and meat were delicious however and overall the meal including the salad rolls were great. The noodles were crunchy and very different then I am used to. This was our first time here, my husband got their famous filet mignon Pho and I had a vegetable pho being a vegetarian. It's very hard for me to find a place that serves vegetarian broth. The broth tasted a bit sweet and kind of reminded me of a store bought pho broth I usually get. All in all, it was really good and full of different vegetables. The owner was very nice and friendly, his wife was the chef and she worked really hard and fast to serve the lunch rush hour. My husband LOVED his beef pho.
