If I could give it a 0 I would. I was told not to come here because it was filthy but I like to try things on my own. Upon sitting down the waitress brought us some waters that tasted like toilet water. I then looked at my glass and realized that there were particles floating in the water. My friends also had particles floating in their water and some of their glasses were dirty. We asked the waitress what it was thinking it may be lemon water and she looked confused and proceeded to apologize and bring us new waters. The new waters still had weird particles that resembled soggy tissue floating in it, but my friends just decided to stay and not drink the water. Everyone's food came except mine and one of my friends discovered a FLY IN HER FOOD!! At this point we asked for a manager but they were not available, so we gracefully told the waiter that we would be leaving and got up and left. They did not seem at all concerned or surprised from what we told them. I am filing a complaint with the health department because this place is obviously not following codes. The fried chicken here is the best! My favorite is the soy garlic. The flavor is everything!!! Perfectly crispy and juicy, yum! The fries are great too, a dollar extra for the seasoned fries, but the regular are just as good. Nice place to chill at the bar and watch the game. As far as drinks you can't go wrong with the margarita. They usually have pretty good drink specials posted on the door when you walk in. They lose one star because the bathroom isn't the cleanest. I really enjoy this place. It's one of the best chicken places around in my opinion. The chicken is crispy and very flavorful. It usually is offered in soy garlic or the spicy version. Personally I enjoy the spicy chicken more as the soy garlic is a bit too sweet for me. I do not recommend the spicy chicken to those who do not do well with hot foods however because it is pretty spicy in my opinion. Went here for lunch as a party of 2. We sat for over 15 minutes without even being served water, let alone having our orders taken. Meanwhile, the servers were busy serving a party of six at a nearby table, catering to their every need. I specifically remember that they took away the patrons' soy garlic wings and replaced them with calamari because they didn't like them. It made us pretty upset that the servers could cater to this party's every needs, but not even serve us water or take our orders. The potstickers were the best of the three, followed by the fries, and the chicken came in last. The wings were very crunchy, but lacking in flavor. I've been here for lunch several times with colleagues. The service is always pretty decent, and there's never a wait for seating during the lunch hour (at least not in my experience). As for the food, the soy garlic wings are the way to go. Can also vouch for the bulgogi sliders which were pretty good. The spicy wings are NO joke! Have them only if you prefer a level of spiciness that gives you the coughs, makes you sweat a bit, and leave you with the sniffles. You've been warned! read more

Let me start off by saying the food was great. However, ordering it was not. The lady behind the glass could not comprehend that i asked for 3-10 piece strips, 10 of each flavor. She told me i could not do that, only half/half. Obviously she couldnt understand what i was trying to say, so i said i would like 10 SG, 10 Hot, 10 red chili. Korean sides are also very expensive. $2.75 for a small cup of kimchi with no refills. No refills on the radishes either unless u want to buy more. I would not come back to this bonchon again. I was in the college park area and this location was the closest to me, however it is in an awful location. The parking garage is an open invitation to get your car broken into, awful lighting and some very suspicious corners with the smell of urine everywhere. The chicken here was not that great. They did not include enough sauce on the outside and the meat was too dry on the inside. I am normally a fan of bonchon, however the one in this location is below average in my opinion. In addition the radish which normally should be complimentary would be charged as an extra. The service wasn't too bad but I definitely did not feel comfortable with the location and the food wasn't spectacular. If your coming from UMD I would drive the extra 10-15 minutes and go to another place to eat. I tried this for the first time with two of my friends. We got the 30 piece wings half and half with the flavors. It was so good! The chicken was crispy and cooked to perfection!!! I have to update this after my last visit, once used to be a good establishment..trash now. I ordered the chicken katsu which took at least 30 plus mins and was delivered warm. When the waitress came to bring out more food, I asked if they could heat this back up. At that point the waitress says "the sauce makes it warm and it's fresh". So I let it go because I really wasn't about to argue. She comes back and says chicken katsu is not served hot, I really just wanted it popped back into the microwave for a few. There was buzz around my town about some asian fusion spot that just opened and had amazing fried chicken, while I don't eat it often as I did in college I do get a craving every now and then so I decided to try this spot. OH MY GOODNESS! The chicken was amazing. If your expecting fast food carryout crispy chicken or a fried/baked crispy - thing again. This is chicken that seems to be covered in a buttermilk batter then fried to crispy (yet juicy) perfection. Of course this place offer other asian delights, but they were of average taste. Nothing spectacular but nothing you'd have to avoid either. As for decor, it's in a huge restaurant space with a cool decked out glowing water bar, but I don't see the need for sit down dinner here, and from the looks of the carry-out desk vs. # of diners, I'd say I'm right on point. P.S. Request your wing flavor of choice on the side as well, b/c it isn't "coated" like normal wings are tossed in sauce. read more

Store staging, set up, appearance and noise level is comfortable warm and inviting. Tgete atlre tvs throughout the restaurant and while there is a large crowd ypu can still here the tv. The food is amazingly delicuous and satisfying f o r any fried anything craving you have. The portions van be shared by three persons in one sitting. Service is professional and drinks are good. Very happy to see this new addition to the food scene in the Hyattsville/College Park area! I went here for dinner last week and was very pleased. Obviously the best bet is to get their signature offering: fried chicken! There's a choice of flavors: hot/spicy and soy garlic. We tried the latter and got the mix of wings & drumsticks. Yummy! Crisp skin outside and a very moist, flavorful meat. They also have a selection of US & Asian beers. While we were told about possibly long waits, the food came quickly and the service was great. Hands down my go-to place for wings now. Dined in once and it was really disappointing. The food was amazing but the waiter I had was just terrible (didn't know the menu, sloooow, but I talked to management that day about it and I'm not going to drop a star for that). The worst part is driving home smelling that wonderful smell in your car and hoping you don't get stuck in traffic on East-West. I never liked Daikon radish before this place. Gotta get the wings every time. I liked the bulgogi fried rice (want to try kimchi and bacon next time yum) and the salmon ball was really good according to my husband. I think I squealed when I saw this was replacing Hanks. So much better. I hope they stay for years to come and eventually offer delivery. That would make me super happy. :D read more

I've been trying to think of how to describe my experience at Bon Chon last week and the only thing I can think of is "odd." A group of four of us got there around 6 on a Friday night. The place was empty, so we got a seat right away. The food is delicious. I had no idea what to expect with Korean fried chicken but it was so good. We got the edamame (nice and salty) and seasoned fries (highly recommend, delicious seasoning) to start. I got soy and garlic chicken strips and they were delcicous. The portions are strange though. For the chicken strips a small is 10 strips, medium 20 and large 30. I get that people probably order a bunch and share, but I was dining with a vegetarian and someone with a gluten allergy, so we all ordered our stuff solo. 10 was WAY too much food. It'd be great if there was a smaller 5 strip option. The service, on the other hand, isn't there. My friend joked that you need to wave them down to order/get something and that's definitely accurate. They seem to bring food out whenever it's ready, not in any particular order, so we got our first appetizer, 2 of the four entrees, the other 2 entrees, and then about 10 minutes later our other appetizer- kind of wonky. When we were ready to pay, we waved down the server to ask for our check and to go boxes. Before we could even express how many boxes we wanted (many of us didn't finish our plates) she had already left. When she came back she didn't have enough boxes, so we had to do the whole thing again. So I'm stuck, because the food is great but the service is mediocre, so it makes for a kind of mixed experience. They've got the hard part - the food- down, so if they could get some training done with the servers that they have and make it more consistent, I think they'd be much more successful. read more

Very happy to have found this Bon Chon. Soy sauce chicken is the better of the sauce options. The texture of the fried chicken is different than American style fried chicken. It's tender, juicy, and super crispy. Traditional Soju and Makkoli (fermented fresh, lightly carbonated rice wine takes the heat down) on the drink menu rounded out the meal nicely. Don't be scared to try the sweet and refreshing daikon radish, out turns down the heat from dishes like the super spicy "burn the tip of your tongue" ttoppoki which is a great noodle, rice cake dumpling, and fish cake dish. Don't worry it's not fishy at all. The French fries were very good too. Service was friendly, fast, and its a good place to watch sports believe it or not, but still a nice atmosphere. read more

Came here for my husband's birthday, as he is an avid lover of Korean fried chicken. I only had a bite of said kfc (a boneless, non-spicy one), and thought it was great. Not the best I've ever had, but easily the second best. I'd very happily try it again! My meal was bibimbop and I found it to be a mixed experience. This was by far the best hot potting I've ever seen, and my rice browned gorgeously giving some great texture as I ate. The actual flavors, though, didn't impress me. Even halfway through it all tasted pretty uniform. The result is that I would unfortunately not order bibimbop here again. Tried a gyoza. Very nice. Tried the kimchi. Very fishy, to the point that I couldn't finish it. So I'd return here for the actual chicken, but nothing else. read more

Wow. Where do I even begin? To the beginning I guess. I was introduced to bon chon in New York a few years ago, and it was one of the things that I would look forward to when I would go visit. I loved the ambiance, service and some of the most delicious chicken ever. So a word of caution to all of my Marylanders (is that a word?) This is FAR from a true representation of the other stores. It's like visiting your favorite aunt after she's been diagnosed with a debilitating disease. It's just a sad shell of its former self. I came twice in a week for different reasons. First visit right before a movie (Amazing location before/after a show if they were good). Second visit to "try" to watch football on a Sunday, and because I didn't want to believe Aunt Tillie was that sick. 1st visit Pros: I got good chicken for an inexpensive price. They seem to serve a lot faster than most of the other stores. 1st visit Cons: The bartender with the toothpick in his mouth and Bluetooth in his ear the whole time. Slow service. It took several minutes to get greeted. The manager who was too busy letting people know he was the manager rather than doing work. 2nd visit Pros: So apparently they're still serving chicken. Cons: Sat at a table by a guy in NO uniform whatsoever, a baseball cap and jacket. Table service made the slow service at the bar seem like we went through a drive thru. It was really that slow. It was empty during a redskins vs. cowboys game with 1/2 price beer. The place was empty, yet we still had to finally flag someone down to greet us. And to get drinks. And condiments. And. .....you get the picture. Food is good and cheap which is why I would recommend ordering to go if you want to come to this location. read more

I have never been so disappointed in Bon Chon until I visited this location. Let me say the service was efficient and courteous however the food was over cooked and cold! Normally we go to the Arlington location and have never had any issues however tonight we decided to try Hyattesville as it is much closer to home! No forks or napkins in the bag...not a big deal but should be included in a take out order. However the chicken was sub par at best... Over cooked and extremely tough. The fries were soggy and some weren't even fully cooked. Will definitely be contacting the manger tomorrow. read more

We're doing our part by patronizing our local businesses. I could've made crunchy chicken at home BUT we ventured out to Bon Chon Americas Blvd location. I called first to see what their process was. The young woman that answered the phone was barely audible. I had to keep saying I can't hear you. We get there and our order just came up. Perfect timing! We smiling and trying to engage the same woman that answered the phone. She had the worst demeanor EVER. She's speaking in low tones in her language and nearly loses it when I turn back and ask for soy sauce. The chicken and fried rice was good but we wont be going back. Lived in Seoul for three years, some time ago. Today is Lunar New Year. Wanted to celebrate with some Korean food, but authentic restaurants nearby do not deliver. So, took a look at Bonchon. On their DoorDash menu, they offer Korean beers and Korean soju. (With state-issued ID.) Thought I'd welcome the new year right with some soju ($11.95, BTW.) and bulgogi. Order arrived, no soju. DoorDash driver said that's all he received at the restaurant. I called the restaurant, they say they can't deliver alcohol. "Why is it offered? (And why did you allow my card to be charged?) Told I need to call DoorDash, it's not the restaurant's problem. Luckily, DD was understanding, and gave me no problem when I explained the situation. I will get a refund. But because the restaurant has not altered their menu, I spent 30 minutes fixing a problem that should not exist in the first place. At best, it is careless of the restaurant not to change the menu to reflect what will and will not be delivered. Or lazy. Or disingenuous. Or, worst case, dishonest, and they trust people are unwilling to spend 30 minutes trying to get back 12 bucks. So, here I am--with inauthentic, subpar bulgogi and no soju. Happy Lunar New Year. I took my mom out for dinner (which she recommended Bonchon) and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staffing were very pleasant and sincere. The menu choices was good especially for those who are novice to Korean cuisine. I haven't tried the tteokbokki yet but it would be next choice coming. I do enjoy drinking soju though. I ordered 4 to go but they can't sell it to you on the go. I was a little disappointed because I want to have soju at home so I can get turnt up on the weekdays after work lol. Sigh. This location was a bit of a downer. I ordered my usual soy garlic wings w/ a side of seasoned fries. At other locations, they serve the seasoned fries in a triangular tower instead of the basket and w/ shredded mozz cheese on top w/ a side of spicy mayo. That didn't happen here. The fry portion was smaller and I had to ask for the spicy mayo, they served it w/ ketchup. The way the wings were served made them seem average and it didn't do The great Bon Chon any justice. I was also confused by the menu. I ordered 10 wings, but was served a mixed batch which I was happy about, but once you see the menu maybe you'll spot why it's confusing...(hint: the combo option). I've never seen this at other locations. Food still tasted great, service was good: no wait, the waiter knew not to disturb us while we stuffed our faces, and he kept our waters filled to the tops. The food also didn't take as long as the other locations, maybe because it wasn't at all busy. The wings come w/ a choice of rice, radish, or coleslaw.
