Ordered and paid online- Easy, then waited 45 min to pick up the order after I got there-wasn't done yet, order was cold and the sauces for the popcorn chicken weren't in the order-no utensils either for the dinner we ordered. These are some of the best wings that I have ever eaten in my life and I consider myself both a chicken and a wing connoisseur. Both the soy garlic and spicy are so delicious. I stopped by Bonchon for takeout chicken when it first opened and liked the food a lot. The bartender was chatty while I had a drink and waited, so it seemed like a nice place to visit often. However, I returned last night for my birthday with some trepidation after reading many reviews knocking everything about it. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! Our server D came right over and seated us, then served us promptly and attentively and gave us good advice on how much to order. Granted, it was kind of a slow night, but she was great. We had Takoyaki (fried octopus dumplings with Japanese mayonnaise, katsu sauce, and bonito flakes), Shrimp Shumai (steamed dumplings with honey dijon), and a Salmon Avocado Ball. Every bite of every dish was absolutely delicious. We also got to try some chicken strips as a "Happy Birthday" gesture. They were light and perfect, with more a tempura batter than KFC's heavy coating. This is the go-to place when you're tired of eating the same old thing. I want to try many more menu items, like the chicken wings Bonchon is known for and a bowl of bibimbap Whatever issues this restaurant may have had getting started seem to be resolved. The chicken and food I heard is amazing. My first time when I tried the fried chicken The flavor profile melted and brought out life and passion in my mouth. The aroma and there was such a nice flavor profile of spiciness if you're into the spicy chicken which is mainly made of Korean hot pepper sauce and a nice drizzle of sesame oil with a nice batter fried almost like a Panko like texture. The other flavor of the sweet garlic is a nice comfort food for those who do not like spice in fire in your mouth. This is more of a comforting flavor profile of soy sauce and garlic. It was so comforting. I first tried Bon Chon chicken in the Mother land land of the morning calm South Korea when I was a kid. I was so excited to see that this franchise is doing so well. I enjoy the wings, I like to dip mine in the dijon mustard or the ginger sauce they have. The drinks are super good. Bimbimbap was good, shrimp appetizer and the seafood fried rice was good too. I'd give it a 5 but the last time I went the waiter wasn't very friendly or attentive and we were the only table there. There is a waitress there that's an older woman who is super friendly. Stopped by after a friend recommended eating here. I didn't realize it was a sit down restaurant. I sat at the bar because I had limited time on my lunch break. The entire place was packed for lunch so I was afraid I wasn't going to have enough time to eat so I got my order to go. I don't get a lot of the complaints I see on the reviews on here. The place was definitely clean and the service was friendly and quick. I can't speak about the staff's knowledge of the menu though since I didn't ask any questions. The food was excellent and I'll definitely be back. I just hope the bad reviews on this page are flukes because I enjoyed the first time. Only thing I'd like to see and it's not this locations fault consider it's a chain, is smaller portion options. We had a great experience at this Bonchon -- this was my 3rd Bonchon I've been to and it was as good or better than the previous two. You don't expect a new restaurant to have all the kinks worked out so quickly, so kudos to the management and staff. They were pleasant, attentive, and fun to chat with. I went in for a lunch meeting and we both had the lunch special. The portions were significant -- which you don't expect for a lunch deal -- and the wings were perfectly flavored and had a perfect crisp to each bite. I'll definitely be back. read more

Not going back. Got an early dinner to go at about 5pm. The place was empty. My order came out super quick, I was surprised. The potstickers seemed pretty dry. I feel like maybe they were left over from lunch and they reheated them. I've had potstickers all over but never any with that texture in the wrap. Can't see how those were fresh. There is no protection against Covid-19 here! I arrived 20 minutes before my food was supposed to be ready, so I sat in my car to wait. During that time I watched a customer sit at the bar drinking and playing on their phone without a face mask. On the other side of the bar were all the orders ready to go out to customers. None of the bags were closed. A second customer came in without a face mask and stood at the bar talking to the woman working there. He handed her cash and she did not wash her hands after touching the money before she touched her computer and 4 orders for different customers. She occasionally went into the kitchen to get orders, but was never in there long enough to wash her hands. Neither of the two employees in the front of the house wore masks and I watched the woman behind the bar look into bags of food (breathing into them) before handing them to customers. I sincerely hope no one dies due to their gross negligence. At least they were nice when I cancelled my order. read more

Went there for the first time today with my wife. Honestly, was a little taken aback by the lack of a host or hostess. Lots of staff talking, but no one came for a while to seat us. Finally we're seated by when the waiter took our order, he either forgot to put it in or just put it in wrong. We ordered the Pork Belly sliders and fried rice. Our water came back after about 10 minutes trying to verify what sauce we wanted for our WINGS. ???? Was disappointed because the waiter came back (after we told him that wasn't our order) and lied trying to blame it on a foul-up in the kitchen.... Told us it was going to be another 5-15 minutes until our order would be out (had already been 15 minutes) Talked to the owner and was VERY impressed! He made it right and apologized for the "communication error" (aka "the waiter screwed up"). Past this screw-up in service, the food was GREAT! The fried rice was slightly sweet, with just the right amount of the protein we ordered, in this case beef. My wife and I really enjoyed the Pork Belly sliders... But WOW did they have a kick to them.... But in a good way! Music was a little loud, making it hard to talk. Also very echoey..... Hopefully the service growing pains will be rectified soon.... We will definitely eat there again.... All because the owner was so nice and the food was so good! read more

The chicken strips were thin and overly crispy. The only redeeming factor here was our amazing waitress. Just went to bon chon restaurant and all i can say is its excellence on a plate. My fiancé and i started with their chicken wings which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I couldn' t tell you how excited I was that Bon Chon was finally opening a store closer to my home in Midlothian, unfortunately, what a COMPLETE let down. When I walked in to order, I was met by 6, yes 6 employees who told me they were unable to take my order and that I had to order from the bar. The place was empty and the 2 guys at the bar didn't seem to have time to take my order either. To make a long story short, this place can't hold a candle to the one on broad street where I will continue to get my chicken fix even though this store is only a mile from my house. The wings and strips are HALF the size of the ones on broad street. The food is great, but the attitude, customer service and portions are far greater a short drive to broad street. Overall a 3.5.....and I would go back. We had the potstickers, shrimp balls appetizers, house fried rice, and wings for dinner. Here's the breakdown.....potstickers were excellent. We got the half and half order ( hot, soy garlic) and both sauces were delicious. The shrimp balls have a "mayonnaise drizzle" but don't let the term mayonnaise fool you if you don't like mayo.....it's more of a seasoned dressing with light mayo base and was very good and does not taste like mayo. House fried rice was good, not great....good flavor, not very crispy if you know what I mean. Wings were super tasty and we got them with the hot sauce, which has a nice heat element without being over powering. Note: We like hot, perhaps more than the average palette so it was good for us.....it was too hot for our friends who ate with us. The wings are served with a little bowl of pickled radish cubes that were so tasty.....cool, sour/sweet, and different.....has same effect of cooling your mouth the way celery and ranch or blue cheese does. We prefer wings not breaded, and the Korean style is, well, breaded then fried. Again, taste is great, just we prefer un breaded texture on wings.....so my rating reflects that personal preference. I'd come back for the chicken strips ( which our waiter let us sample so we could taste the different sauces), and the potstickers! Service was good.....friendly, attentive, sincere. Terribly managed... server forgot multiple things at our table, including our orders at one point. (she asked what we ordered again about 20 minutes after ordering). Food came very slowly, confused as to who got what and was missing all side orders and one of my friends main entree. Bills split wrong, and one entree they "forgot" to make and ended up having to take it togo. And another friend never got his wings but luckily wasn't charged for it. Food was delicious, but terrible service and lots of confusion from the server and kitchen for an hour and half. The chicken is really good, although my husband said BWW was better. Pork buns were actual sandwiches, good flavor on the pork. Beef bulgogi rolls had the same buns as the pork ones. The buns were good, soft but could be softer, and a just a tad big for the quantity of filling, but I've seen worse. The hot chicken selection is super hot imo. I preferred the soy garlic. Completely overpriced. It cost 34$ for 3 rolls of each and a small chicken combo. If it were half the price I would rank it 4 stars maybe. I've eaten bonchon for the past 10 years and I am so sad to say this location does not do bon chon's justice. I first had bonchon up north in Annandale, absolutely DELICIOUS! Hooked ever since. Was super excited when broad street opened up and happily made the drive up there. Although I noticed a difference in size from broad street to Annandale, the flavor was all there! This Midlothian location is none of that. I've given this location many tries from when they first opened, to months later, two years later and I am still very disappointed. It's the same result. Dry, flavorless chicken. Also, their pickled radish was not "pickled" and coleslaw was literally just bagged cole slaw mix, no flavor, NADA! In addition to, if I thought the size at broad street was small, this is even SMALLER. So upset because this location is much closer but this will be my last try at this location. I live about 5 mins from here and never knew about it . My partner and I found it on yelp and went to check it out with high hopes of being the best in Richmond . Now don't get me wrong these wings are GOOD ! But the taste is get fairly bland quite fast and you get tired of the same flavor. When my daughter and I read the other reviews we thought maybe people were being a little bit nit picky but turns out they were right. This location is NOT as good as broad street.
