After sampling BonChon in D.C , I was so excited to discover one close by here in VA. I didn't realize it was a sit down place , but the host and our waitress were extremely nice and attentive . The restaurant was clean and we got our food within 15 minutes. However , you will leave the place smelling like fried food (maybe wear your least fav jacket if you care). We ordered 20 wings- half and half flavor with an order of the house fried rice and even though the fried rice was just ok , the chicken was E V E R Y T H I N G. Honestly , I almost teared up at the first crunch. My boyfriend loved how spicy his were , slightly sweating and enjoying every bite. The soy garlic is just perfect, I just wish they had BBQ. Anyways, great chicken. The size , meat, and portions were great . The prices are a little much but hey, at least the taste matched the worth. EDIT: Adding another star. I visited today and had the seasoned fries and sweet soy chicken wings, and they were quite good. First and foremost, let me point out that the waitress that waited on me was very nice, professional, and attentive. That being said, I did not have a good meal today. To start, I ordered the Tteokbokki starter. Okay, this thing was huge. It is obviously made for a group of people, but I apparently missed the memo. It sounded fantastic, Rice and Fish cakes in a sauce. The Rice and Fishcakes were half inch thick tubes, about 2 inches long, that did not taste like fish, but like a thick rice noodle. The sauce was not a sauce, it was soup. And it was spicy!! Between than and the mozzarella on top, it was odd as Hell and just did not suit my pallet. It tasted like a few completely different tasty dishes had an ugly baby and then tried to kill it with fire. (I hated it and did not come close to finishing it.) For my main dish I ordered the Pork Buns, which were pretty tasty. A rice bun sliced in half with cole slaw, a cucumber with katsu sauce, and a crispy piece of pork. This was good. But I could only eat one of the three because I was full from the multiple glasses of water i drank to cool down my mouth from the TTeokbokki starter. I also ordered a side of kimchi. First, let me say I am not a huge fan of kimchi. But I like trying different things. Here is the problem. At first taste, it was okay. Nothing to write home about, and not spicy, but interesting. And then this rancid fish taste hit me. It was disturbing. I asked the waitress and she said, "No there is no fish in it, maybe fish sauce." I told her, that it tasted strongly of fish. She checked with the chef and found out it was made with fish stock. 1/10 - would not try again. I did order an item to go for my wife. I ordered the Fried Shrimp Shumai. I did not get a chance to try them, but I was assured they were quite tasty. End of the day, I will not be going back. Not so hot ... When I usually get wings at Northern VA Bonchon locations, they come out piping hot off the fryers. Here, not so much. The shrimp fried rice tasted fishy and not fresh; the cucumbers surrounding the bowl was limp and dry. The popcorn chicken was chopped so finely that it was more like popcorn dust, more appropriate as a garnish on salad than as an appetizer. There was only one waitress during somewhat busy lunch hour and she was running ragged. Pretty sure it was honest mistake but she even charged us extra drink. Food was slow to come out. Bibimbop, I was hoping it would closely emulate the authentic stuff they serve in a Korean restaurant. Um, not so much. The rice they used was long grained rice that was either undercooked or precooked and dried out. You have to use sticky rice to get that nice crusty, crunch layer at the bottom. However, the biggest culinary faux pas was the use of raw onion chunks in the bibimbop. I can't believe this was in the instructions from Bonchon corporate. Nobody uses raw onions in bibimbop, ever. That's like using Italian pasta to make Pho or putting raw broccoli in marinara sauce. Also, there was hardly any meat in bibimbop. The place had what looks to be a full bar, so there is that, but when I go to Bonchon, it's usually for carryout wings. I'd skip this location, unless you are going there for the bar. read more

I was excited about eating here tonight as this was our first visit to this location. I'm very familiar with the West End Bon Chon. I recommend going there personally. The chicken wings at Midlothian are weak. Way bigger wings at W. Broad location. I ordered the Bibimbap (w/chicken) which is supposed to come with an egg yoke in the center. I asked where mine was and the manager told me that it melted into the center. I call BS because I didn't even get essence of yoke. Disappointing, but I made due. Service was good, but she got overwhelmed being the only server on duty. I'll get my fix from Richmond from here on out. read more

Because of the number of mishaps I'm about to discuss, I realize that this review isn't going to sound believable. It may just look like a rant from a typical, whiny, the-customer-is-always-right prick. That being said, I must stress that this was their first night open (6/11/2016). The staff was also extremely nice and polite. If you have been introduced to Bonchon in Nova or in Richmond, this is going to be significantly different in terms of style, portion size, and flavor. The takoyaki was rather cold. Not sure if this is a stylistic choice? I've always had these hot. It also doesn't have the characteristic bonito flakes (the crackling tuna shaving things) on top. Another choice by the owner, I guess. The seasoned fries are served in a cone-shaped thing. Not the large basket we've come to expect. The seasoning itself has good flavor. Fries could be crispier. Incorrect beers were delivered to the table more than once. My friend got tired of complaining and just drank what they brought. I reckon he didn't want to seem like a jerk. Good on him, since we could tell they were trying. And.. LoL. Speaking of the beer: We did a double take when the waiter told us that Kirin Ichiban is a Korean beer. I wanted to tell him, but didn't have the heart since he seemed like a nice person. Waiter guy, if you're reading this, it's Japanese. Be careful when specifying whether you want half & half or a full order of your chosen flavor. Just make sure they hear it and relay it back to you. You get the picture. Also be advised that their chicken will come out significantly oilier than Broad Street's. For some folks, I reckon this could be a plus? And yeah, it is supposed to be double-fried. But the amount of oil still on the chicken and on our faces was a BIT excessive in my opinion. This was made more evident when eating leftovers the next day. Normally, there's a bit of crispness still in the chicken 12-24 hours later. But this chicken had so much oil that the skin was completely soft and mushy. I still ate it though! Just squeezed it with paper towels first. The salmon avocado ball is probably the thing that is going to make me sound like a liar. There was a hair in it. Not much else to say there. The manager apologized, took it back, and gave me a new one. Please also note that these are one-third to one-half the size of those at the Broad Street location. So... Overall, it was not the best experience. Maybe they were actually trolling us?! Haha.. But like I said, this was opening night. So they can hopefully improve. My fiancé and I just so happened to stumble upon this place on it's opening day 6/11. I'd heard nothing but good reviews from some who frequent the West End location but this was our first time. It most certainly lived up to the hype! We ordered the Shrimp Shumai, a 10 piece wing (half & half) and potstickers (half & half).... EVERYTHING was amazing and we instantly designated this our new spot! The chicken and potsickers are so perfectly crunchy and the sauces are quite delicious (though I'm a little partial to the soy garlic). We have since gone back (6/20), again we had wings and potstickers (I'm pretty sure those two will be staple items each visit lol) and we also tried the house fried rice... easily some of the best fried rice either of us has had in the Richmond area. I visited this establishment for the first time on 3/28/17 with 3 friends for late dinner. The floors and tables all looked clean, building looked freshly updated, and the bar appeared to be well stocked. Our server was polite and friendly. She happily explained the speciality drinks and answered our questions about the menu. Food was fresh, tasty, and very hot. The kimchi was delicious and the bibimbap with bulgogi was great although it did need a little salt. We also tried a small platter of the famous chicken. It was well worth it. Our server even explained the cooking process to us. The mixed drinks were also well made. Just the right amount of alcohol. I did not get a chance to visit the bathroom, but everything else looked very clean. You can see into parts of the kitchen from where we sat and everything seemed to be neat, organized, and clear. You can choose to eat-in here, but Bon Chon is absolutely my favorite take-out indulgence. There are lots of good things to choose from, but the wings are the best. I prefer the soy garlic, but my husband loves the spicy - Warning: he likes his food Spi-Cee, so those wings probably have a nice kick. I also enjoy the garlic fries. There is a full bar and nice variety of beer and wine, with happy hour specials. The staff is warm, friendly, and always attentive. You will become addicted! read more

Oh my gosh. Get the chicken wings. They are delicious and perfect. When I first came here it seemed kinds weird, like, Garlic Soy Chicken wings? Ehh...I really love buffalo wings and my husband likes bbq wings, and the ones here seemed like weird flavors. But I am so glad I tried it! I got the half & half wings (5 Spicy and 5 Garlic Soy). My favorite chicken wings of any establishment ever. The sauces are just really awesome, not weird at all. My husband loved them as well, and he is so picky with food. I have been to a good amount of Bonchon franchises around the Richmond area, and this one is a real let down. I also find my recent experience strange because my last visit (months ago) was nothing but positive. The service here is exceptionally well. Our server was accommodating and the food didn't take too long to come out either. Unfortunately, the portions we were served were ridiculous. It's almost like this restaurant uses a salami slicer to prepare their chicken strips. I can't recommend this location when other Bonchon's are willing to serve actual entrees. read more

This place just opened and I have been to the other locations. But this was close by so I thought I would pay a visit. We called ahead and placed an order for their combo wings. When we arrived our chicken was ready and we wanted to order rice cake for to go. We asked how long it would take and the server/bartender was very confused. He did not know the menu, nor did he know what was available. He wasn't a bad person, he was sweet and kind but he had no training. Lack of knowledge of the menu. So we waited.. And waited. While sitting and waiting, I witnessed 3-4 employees just standing around and chatting with one another and laughing. There were customers around and no one cared. While waiting I opened our box of chicken and noticed that our complimentary pickled radish was missing. I asked the server what had happened, again he looked confused and said how they ran out of radish earlier and will check if there is more, and if there wasnt anymore he would give me rice. Not so surprised there wasnt anymore radish and he gave us rice instead. First, you should never give nothing to customers when something runs out. Instead you should take the initiative and put something else, like pickled kimchi. Second, the serving of the rice was a complete joke. You charge 1.75$ for that little thing? That is a huge markup. I would know... I am asian. Anyways, after 30 mins of waiting for rice cakes, it came and we left. Safe to say, i wont be paying another visit here. I will just drive further for my bonchon chicken. Decided to try this place on a whim and we were not disappointed. We shared 2 large appetizers: the combo wings and Salmon Avocado Ball. The combo wings were very crunchy with juicy chicken inside. The soy garlic sauce is amazing and we really enjoyed the sweet crunch sauce as well. But it could've used a little more sauce. It comes with coleslaw that pairs very nicely with the wings. The Salmon Avocado Ball was our favorite tho. Delicious blend of flavors that left us feeling full and satisfied. Won't be back to this location.... I recently moved to Midlo area & was SO hype when I found out a Bonchon was 7 mins. from my house. There was numerous issues I had with this location. When I ordered online it gave me the option of to go or Curbside pick up. FYI: There is no curbside pick up, After waiting outside like the website said I went inside to pick up my to go food, arrived inside the General Manager who I assume was the GM due him wearing a button down was working the behind bar wasn't wearing a mask, that creeped me out.. So I just wanted to get out of that restaurant. I arrived home & was really disappointed in the food. I got 12 soy garlic boneless wings side of coleslaw & potstickers with spicy dipping sauce. The boneless wings had a splash of sauce on it mostly dry, Definitely weren't double fried. The potstickers were the same with just a splash of sauce on them to top it off my coleslaw wasn't in the box. This was a huge disappointment. If u want GOOD Bonchon GO to the WEST BROAD location. Great Staff and very clean. However, Why are there Red Bell Peppers in Bibimbop? Makes a Korean dish taste like knock off Fajitas. Please stop. Yum!!! Found this gem while heading to t mobile and I'm so glad we did!! It was hard for us to find good spots to eat at since we moved here and this will be our go to destination! The food was Amazing! Great food and we spent less than we normally do at other places. We ordered Fries, Bolgogi Bibimbap, and 30 pc wings half spicy, half soy and garlic which came with a side of rice. Sooooo good! I normally like spicy, but I couldn't handle it. I've been to the west end location many times and always had a good experience. We were looking forward having a location on the southside. I went on my second visit here today for eat in lunch and to make a take out order for my wife. I ordered Pork Buns which were supposed to be pork belly. Buns arrived with pork loin. Spoke to the manager who was courteous and removed them from the bill. He seemed a bit clueless as to the menu. I'm not sure how that kind of substitution gets made in a chain restaurant like this. Ordered chicken for myself that never came, the bartender never entered it in the computer. They brought out my wife's take out order and at that point I had just had enough. I paid my bill and left. I understand having some growing pains in terms of service, but they have been open a month now, and at the time I was there, the employees outnumbered the customers 2 to 1. I ate some of my wife's chicken when I got home, because the chicken is pretty good. For now, I will just make the drive to the west end location. read more

Was hovering between a 2 and a 3. I actually do have a love/hate relationship with all Bonchons. One day they can be a 5, the very next they can be 1. The problem with this one is the fact that The chicken is always dried out, minus one visit. The flavoring can be amazing, but why should I need a gallon of water for just one meal. I recommend people try Bonchon and maybe you'll get lucky like my one visit at this specific location. If you do get lucky count your blessings and do not expect it to happen very often here. read more

I live off the Turnpike, and there's usually no shortage of Korean restaurants around, but this is the one closest to me and doesn't look like a sketchy hole in the wall. The kimchi pancake trio is not available at this location. The food definitely has a bit of a chain recipe feel to it and a lot of things are smothered in cheese, but it's really not bad, and the manager is actually quite nice. I've had the bibimbap and the (cheese) buldak. The latter wasn't anything to rave over, with the spice not hot enough for my tastes, and the rice a tad undercooked. The bibimbap came with a large portion, half of which I had for lunch and the rest I took home for dinner. Of the two things I tried, I thought this was spicier than the buldak after adding the sauce the manager gave me (even though the buldak is supposed to be one of the spiciest items on the menu). I have had the Bonchon soju lemonade and as someone who isn't big on the taste of alcohol, I appreciated how sweet it was, with enough kick to make me a tad tipsy (keep in mind I am a lightweight, however). I'd definitely go back again because the place is very clean and the manager makes me feel welcome, but I am sure there are better places to get homemade Korean food than a chain restaurant; so I can't give it a full five stars. read more

Buffalo guy here, so I know my wings. I have had wings in a lot of places, and I always say that the best wings I've had are in Buffalo. Then I tasted the wings at Bonchon...and I'm addicted. My wife and I come here all the time, but I never thought of ordering wings...that was a mistake...they are amazing, I start drooling as soon as we mention coming here...and the potstickers...oh my God! The soy garlic sauce is amazing, I would drink it out if cup...the service is really good, quick and very friendly. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. read more

How excited I was after moving from NYC that there was a BonChon here, what a disappointment. The wings had the perfect texture, but the sauce lacked flavor. The bibimbap was literally the most bland I've ever had in my entire life, no exaggeration. The pork buns were ok, and the pickled daikon was barely pickled. Korean food is my favorite, but this BonChon was the worst. For the price of what you pay, it should be way better...just sayin. read more
