We go bonkers for bonkeys. The portions are huge. Interesting flavors. Can never make a bad selection here!

My husband and I got snowballs from Bonkey's today and boy were they awful. This is the first time we've gotten anything from here and perhaps the ice cream is what we should have tried on our first visit. But having grown up in Maryland, I was craving a snowball. I got a wild cherry with marshmallow while my husband got pineapple and pina colada. I wouldn't call these snowballs, more like slushies or icees. They're mostly melted flavorless ice in a styrofoam cup, the snowball only takes up about 3/4 of the cup. The cup is definitely not full or piled high with "snow" -- again because it's melty slush. I'm guessing the flavoring is watered down to last longer, as mine had ZERO cherry flavor at all. It was tasteless red ice with the smallest glob of marshmallow smeared on the side. My husband's had the flavor of old ice. You know when ice needs to be dumped after sitting for a while and it has that distinct taste -- that's what his snowball tasted like. There's no where to sit and eat, minus an old table flung out in the parking lot with zero sun protection. It was a hot day so we weren't eating on that, so we took ours to go. We took a few bites and universally decided these were THE WORST snowballs in the history of frozen ice treats. I mean come on, it's shaved ice and syrup. So, if you're looking for a tasty snowball, go to the boardwalk. Don't go here. Maybe we'll try their ice cream, but I definitely won't be making a special stop for it after this experience. Make the drive up the Garfield parkway for this gem. The hand dipped ice cream is rich and creamy. The flavors are fun and varied. Banana pudding, joes garage, blueberry pancake, Cookie Monster, even lemongrass basil- each one truly delightful. No, the place isn't much for atmosphere, but an ice cream shop doesn't need to be. Such a cute little ice cream and snowball shop!! The parking is a little hectic and the line can be long but it's definitely worth it! They have such a large variety of random ice creams and I loved it! But they ran out of a lot of ice creams closer to the end of the night, so I'd definitely get there early. But compared to every other ice cream shop Bonkeys is a great price! I definitely don't want to spend $7 on a large at other shops when I can spend $4 here. But they only take cash which stinks. read more

Fantastic place! We went twice during our week vacation and each time tried their homemade ice cream. Excellent quality, flavor and price! We tried cotton candy, coffee, mint chip, Nutella, almond joy, vanilla and my personal favorite - Cookie Monster, all were excellent. Service was great too! Spent a week in Bethany and stopped at Bonkeys twice. The first night I had Burnt Sugar and Blueberry Pancake and though I didn't care for the texture of the pancake in the latter I did really like the Burnt Sugar. The second visit I came back for the Burnt Sugar and added Almond Joy this time. Bonkeys did not disappoint. The ice cream is firm with a nice texture and slightly less sweet (which I prefer) than others in the area. Yes it is located a short drive from the Boardwalk but well worth the trip for what I feel is the best ice cream in Bethany. read more

Really great ice cream. A nice little business that's gettting more popular. Lines tend to be long early evening during the season. Been here a few times as our go to spot for delicious ice cream! It's a great place to reward your kids when they are well behaved. There are so many flavors you can choose from too. The service is awesome as one of our kids dropped their cone and they jus have us a new one free of charge. It's the little things that a place can do that makes customers happy. The only good thing about this place was the ice cream. I understand that these servers have a line of people to get to but here it's very clear that efficiency comes before customer service. I barely got time to read their flavors before I was asked what I want 3 times. Then we were rung up before I even ordered so I didn't get the opportunity to ask for sprinkles on my ice cream. The ice cream that I wound up getting was tasty but I was disappointed that fast service came before good service. I won't be back to this place because there are other places around to get good ice cream where you don't have to feel uncomfortable when ordering. Best ice cream I've ever had! Get the Pralines and Cream, it's divine. They have tons of flavors to choose from and the place is always swamped with people. The line does move fast and it is worth waiting for. You can taste that the ice cream is homemade, there is a difference. I get a kids cup usually which is one small scoop but I find that is enough and is really satisfying. I wish we had a Bonkeys where I lived! read more

Have been disappointed the last two seasons at Bonkey's. The flavors seem to taste the same and the staff has given us the wrong ice cream, not what we asked for. The cleanliness and no napkins is also a pet peeve of ours. We won't be visiting anymore. read more

Best ice cream in Bethany. A wide variety of flavors and other desserts. Favorite flavors: Cookie Monster, bubblegum, caramel old bay, salted caramel. Some flavors change day to day. Get there early because the line gets super long and parking isn't the best. It's cash only and the bubblegum ice cream doesn't have actual chunks of gum in it like other beach places which is why I took off a star. read more

Im visiting from Texas and we have lots of snow cone stands there. After being tired and hungry from a Long Beach day, we decided to try bonkey's. I got the cake batter. It wasn't very flavorful. My mother and brother got the ice cream flavor. It wasn't very flavorful either. My grandma got the cheesecake on a stick and it was AMAZING!! Homemade ice cream in flavors that are creative without being too ridiculous. It was worth the trip in concept. Don't get me wrong, the product delivered as expected (something called grasshopper and Googly moogly were both top notch) but the location was a real let down. 5 stars for the product 2 stars for the location, rounding up cause I teach college kids who do poorly enough even when I do round up. read more
