In general my favorite ice cream is Rocky Road and Cookies n Cream...however, after Rocky Road always being sold out every time I wanted to order it, I was disappointed when I ordered it. It was missing the Rocky part lol -- nuts/almonds and needed the whole marshmallows. Their Cookie Monster tho is delish! The egg custard snowball parfait with marshmallow (you add ice cream -- any, not just soft serve and also toppings) is my go-to if I just want something simple and cold. Does that tell you anything about the varieties that they offer? You can get anything from plain chocolate to burnt butter ice cream. We've been in the area 6+ years and finally tried Bonkey's. Cute little building set back from the road, with plenty of chairs on the lawn for patrons. They specialize in snowballs - I've never heard of them before, maybe they're the same as shave ice or Italian ice? We were in the mood for traditional ice cream, so I ordered a small cup of pumpkin with chocolate. Sorry, the girl said - only one flavor per small cup. So I stuck with pumpkin. It was very good and it was at least two scoops so really there's no reason they couldn't make one of the scoops another flavor. Others in my party had vanilla with hot fudge and a concoction called pretzel salad. It was different & good! Pretzels were soggy though, too bad they didn't sprinkle them on top or add them with each order so they stayed crunchy. Anyway, we liked the interesting flavors. read more

This was my first and second visits here with my family of five including two elementary school children. My family has been here before without me. They enjoyed Bonkey's in the past. As you can see from my menu pic they offer the widest selection of ice cream flavors, including some rare and unusual flavors. On my first visit I enjoyed salted caramel in a waffle cone. On my second visit I enjoyed pralines and cream in a waffle cone. There are lots of staff working at Bonkey's, therefore the wait line moves very effectively. Both flavors were acceptable, but I subsequently found two other farm fresh ice creams in Ocean View and Bethany Beach. The advantage of Bonkey's is the widest variety of ice cream flavors. The waffle cones here are also very fresh. I hate stale or soggy cones. My total bill was $41 on my most recent visit excluding cash gratuity. Cute outdoor space to enjoy ice cream on a nice day. This was a pretty busy ice cream place for both locals and tourists. The milkshakes were not great (in my opinion) since they were made with soft ice cream. The chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream had lots of chips! The mint chocolate chip ice cream was refreshing and surprisingly white (which I prefer). They sell soft ice cream as well as hard. They even had a vegan flavor. Something for everyone. read more

Overall very disappointing. Great flavor choices and solid, but not great ice cream. The sundaes are good. Staff was friendly enough. The issue was mainly related to the milkshake. The milkshake was barely mixed so after taking a small sip of pure milk and then immediately getting clogged with ice cream, I open up my lid to see that the cup was only ~70% full. Due to it not properly mixed and not special tasting, and then being under filled for $10 (including tip).... The experience was disappointing. read more

I don't have snocones so much because the syrups can be sweet but not here. I had the Reggae sunsplash topped with Lavender lemon ice cream. Very good together and so refreshing on a hot day. Wow I am a huge fan of the double dark chocolate ice creams. Bonkeys has all the flavors as I've said many times. They switch based on availability from night to night. This night I tried double dark chocolate and it might be my new favorite. It was smooth and creamy but got that rich dark chocolate flavor in every bite. I always get the baby sizes - I think it's the perfect portion for a nice ice cream dessert. We also went a bit earlier (7:50pm) and beat the line tonight which was nice. We go out of our way to go to Bonkeys--nothing beats their vast selection of sweet treats and unique flavors. As an added bonus they have a huge parking lot with ample parking and grass for kids to run off some of the sugar high. Two of us stopped and order double dips in a waffle cone. One was fine, the other not so much. I asked about the difference in size and the young girl shrugged her shoulders. Based on YELP and lines, I thought I was in for a great treat! Asked if they had soft ice cream and they said they did! When it was handed to me I initially got excited... by the time I got to the car I was disappointed. The Waffle Cone was leaking at the bottom and I had to wrap it with a few napkins. Well, that is not all. I felt like I was having a Dairy Queen ice cream! UGH UGH UGH! It tasted awful and I was so turned off. I hit my wife a scoop of key lime pie ice cream and hope she enjoys it. I had the Zombie ice cream. It was good.. and a safe bet. They said "no samples due to covid". I don't understand how a place that serves unique flavors will not offer samples. Covid?? None of the workers were wearing masks and they served our ice cream just like any normal day. Seems like an excuse to not offer samples. My wife was a little more daring than I. Since I couldn't sample, I chose something that seemed safe. My wife had the OldBay salted Carmel. It was awful. She couldn't even eat more than three bites. I tried it and agreed. She tossed it and when she went back to the window to order a Zombie and told them how bad it was, they just said "oh, sorry". No big deal.. just pay full price for another one. We have been to a lot of ice cream places over the last year during covid and not one has denied "sample" to taste their unique flavors.
