We met family and friends at Bono's for Lunch. It's been years since the last time we've been here. There were 5 of us at our table. The waitress did a great job taking care of us today! I ordered the lunch portion of the Beef Brisket and two sides (fries and coleslaw). I thought everything was really good and the brisket had good flavor and was cooked just right. The coleslaw was very good (coleslaw is always one of my favorites at places) and this coleslaw was very good! The fries were tasty and crunchy just the way I like it. I visited Jacksonville for the first time and I'm so glad that this was one of the stops on my trip. This was probably some of the best bbq I've ever had. The server we had was extremely nice (I forget her name but she was celebrating her 35th year there I believe) and made our experience better. Everything I ate there tasted good. I had brisket, pulled pork, sweet potatoes and baked beans and I was so mad I didnt go again a second time. It has an old western cabin feel but tons of customer photos on the walls. The sweet and tangy bbq sauce was so good that I had to buy a bottle and put inside tsa approved containers to bring back to NY. Highly recommend trying. read more

Now, this is some barbeque. We ordered the 3 meat meals, consisting of :beef brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken. We decided on potato salad and green beans as our side. I almost forgot to mention that we ordered corn nuggets as an appetizer, and boy, were they good fresh off the fryer. We started eating the brisket, omg moist tender meat, the chicken nice smokey flavor, and the ribs were just perfect. The sides were pretty good, and potato salad tasted homemade, and green beans just needed a little salt for my tasting. This restaurant is a Jacksonville staple, there are two other locations. This location in particular was less than ten minutes away from the hotel. I really enjoyed my meal and I highly recommend, if in the Jacksonville area. Nice atmosphere since the remodel. This is my husband's FAVORITE restaurant for BBQ. To me, it tastes like any other BBQ restaurant. The service was good - very nice waitresses. The Turkey was good and moist. Green Beans were tasty- some places give you broken up mush, but these were intact. My kids had the Macaroni and Cheese and said it was dry - again, just like other BBQ places. Nothing really stood out about this joint. At least the Turkey was better than Buc-ee's! read more

I've lived in Jax all my life and Bono's has always been one our family's favorite places to get BBQ. But over the years I've noticed that the Bono's near where I live (Southside Area) are just not the same as I remember, specifically with the food quality and taste. This one is Different! This one is LEGIT. Sweet Tea is perfectly sweet and crisp without any aftertaste from bad ice. 10/10 Chicken was amazingly juicy with just the right amount of smoky flavor. 10/10 Green Beans & Mac N Cheese are just like I remember from 20 years ago. Tastes like a family recipe and was hot and fresh. 10/10 The Food and Service here are leaps and bounds better then all the others! I hope the crew at this Bono's get some recognition because ya'll are the only ones left keeping this Jax BBQ staple alive! Ordered lunch for 8 from Bonos Catering just before Christmas. We ordered a few days ahead for pickup. On the day we picked up our order it was ready at the designated time. We were in & out. When we unpacked our order we were missing a key side item, Cole's slaw! I was annoyed. When we called they told us to come back to for it. Well we were too hungry to wait for it. So we all dug in. We ordered the ribs plus one meat with sides. Ribs & turkey with Texas toast, coleslaw (missing), baked beans & Mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. My favorite is the turkey. Tender & tasty. The mac & cheese was rich & oh so good. Baked beans is a must have. Texas toast was very good too, Bonos is always consistent. Had they not forgotten a key side, coleslaw it would have been a 5 star rating, I keep coming back because their Turkey is the best in town. read more

I ate here a few days ago and I will start with the atmosphere was kind of awkward. We were sat super close to other people which was kind of weird considering it didn't look very busy. I also thought the tables were gross. Everything was sticky and all of the bottles of different sauces looks disgusting. I was disappointed that it felt like I needed to wash my hands after simply sitting down... The food was pretty delicious though, the fries were SPOT ON. Exactly how I like them! However, because the tables and sauce bottles were dirty, I really don't think they have the best hygiene in the kitchen. Also the sauces are terrible. I don't recommend trying them. Almost all of them tasted like vinegar, and it was all extremely watery. One of the sauces straight up tasted and looked like extremely watery Dijon mustard. Three stars, food was pretty good, but I really did not enjoy that everything was super unclean and gross. They definitely need to go ahead and try to implement some sort of cleaning routine. If the tables are gross, I can't even imagine the state of the kitchen and refrigerators/freezers. read more

My wife and I have been visiting Bono's Lane Ave for years. Very rare when we have a substandard meal. Tonight's dinner was wonderful. We were immediately met by an employee who was at the front making utensils wrapped with a napkin and taken to our table. Though she was not our server, she got our drinks. The place was clean and the music background. The table was clean and well stocked. I had the large ribs, fries, and fried ear of corn. The wife had small chicken platter (dark meat), green beans, and fried ear of corn. My ribs were great, what a slab, took two ribs home for lunch along with corn. Wife's chicken was good, beans hot, and both our corns were smoken hot. Server kept us in drinks and checked on us. The only complaint was the place was a little smokey. The wife said her eyes were burning a little. You could see the haze in the place. Now it was windy and raining, don't know if that contributed. Can you expect anything more? Actually, yes! I've heard this Bono's could be spotty, but we must have come on a good night. The pork was perfectly smoked, tender and juicy. The sides of mac & cheese and squash casserole were both rich and delicious. My boy got the brisket & sausage which were both nicely done considering I prefer pork when it comes to BBQ. Not dry whatsoever and truly flavorful. He ordered the side salad with honey mustard & baked beans as his accompaniments and both were very good. The portions were perfect (I ordered the small pork platter)served with some fresh garlic toast to sop up all the sauces and flavors from my plate as licking my plate in public would probably not be socially acceptable. Overall, the service was outstanding. They get an extra star because Courtney & the entire Bono's staff here were friendly, efficient and totally accommodating. And our meals were flawless. We were the last to leave and definitely left stuffed without any room for dessert. Bono's is usually our family's favorite BBQ place. We ate in last Saturday and came away disappointed. The waitress was nice, a bit forgetful, but apologetic and seemed authentically embarrassed by her mistakes. The menu has changed and seemed to promote sandwiches more than actually BBQ dishes. Actual BBQ entrees (ribs, chicken, etc.) were relegated to the bottom corner of the menu, not in the center where you would normally look for it. We were puzzled by that - it gave us a feeling that they were moving away from traditional BBQ? The prices have shot up dramatically and were quite a shock. The food was good - hot and "fresh", but didn't WOW us like it usually does. One of us ordered a burger and it was literally charred around the edges - but the inside was cooked well. The ribs were good, tasty and smoky. I don't know how to describe the experience other than we felt let down. I ordered a large chicken plate w/ double fries. She says the fryer is down and I had to choose from the other sides. Of course they are ready to close and it's not really anything wrong with the fryer. I get home and the toast is burnt and the chicken does not look done. I try to call and of course the line is busy. This is terrible customer. If you close at 9p...close at 9p. Don't start closing before 8:30p. I felt the person at the window wanted me to rush and give her my order. I said, " I don't come that often. I'm trying to decide what I want." This is the second time we have been at this location. Food was good but it was so smoky in there it made my eyes water and the smell is in my hair and my clothes. Not what I want keep smelling all night Well my husband wanted bbq for dinner so we came back here ...again. Where to begin. I'll start with the ladies at the table next to us. She ordered her pork sandwich chopped. They brought it sliced ‍. So the waiter kind of got smarmy with her about specifying how chopped she wanted it. Well kid I got news for ya chopped is not sliced and I'll leave it at that. My hubs ordered the large order of ribs and I got the pork sandwich with slaw on it. Walk into this BBQ joint and you know you're in for a down home treat. Nothing fancy here but the BBQ speaks for itself. A small array of sauce selections on the table and friendly waitresses. Small domestic bottles available for those wishing to add some Budweiser to their meal. We went on a double take deal (which you should bring printed) because otherwise they can't accept it from the smartphone. That caused a little hiccup for us but management helped us get it figured out. One thing for sure is this restaurant has been around for decades. Full of regulars, the place stayed constantly busy the hour or so we were there. The ambiance is what I'd say old Florida. Family photos on the walls and random pieces of Americana. Also contributing to the experience is the immediate aroma of smoking meats. It kinda stays with you after you leave if you know what I'm talking about.
