Even though the restaurant was extremely busy, the staff remained friendly, attentive, and welcoming. There was a bit of a wait for our food, but it was absolutely worth it. The barbecue was authentic, flavorful, and served with all the classic fixings. We ordered the Family Feast, which provided plenty of delicious food and was a great way to sample a variety of their offerings. I have been eating at the pig since I was a kid. They have pretty reasonable breakfast and lunch. They serve barbecue for the most part, but they also sell different items such as like fried shrimp and fish if you would like that. The service here is pretty fast. I would say I never really had to wait too long for my food. Parking is a little tight. But the food that I have had here is pretty tasty. I go to order if it's breakfast is pancakes with a side of toast and grits. If there's lunch, I'm probably gonna get fried shrimp and fries. But this establishment is pretty welcome as soon as you walk in the door people are there to greet you see if you wanna sit at a table or a booth or to go order. We eat here often. The food overall is really good. Love the corn nuggets. The BBQ is always excellent with a deep genuine smokey flavor. Good quality meats are used. Portion size is a little light and hit or miss on any given day. Service is pretty good. We've never had a bad experience. They have a good variety of side options as well as entrees. The service was excellent!! They easily accommodated our party of 9 without any issues. The waitress, Janicea (not sure of the spelling) was fantastic! She was friendly, knew the menu well, and had no issue turning the television down when asked. We ordered several starters - jalapeño poppers, corn nuggets, okra, and mushrooms. Everything was fried well and was hot... however, nothing was particularly awesome. I ordered a large pork sandwich with fries (cause I clearly hadn't had enough fried food already ‍). The sandwich was a good size - but the pork was dry and crumbly. It was like they had cooked a pork loin a little too long. While there was no smoke flavor - it wasn't bad. The Cole slaw was good and for the record, the fries are steak fries. My son ordered the two meat plate, ribs and chicken. I'll admit - I was a little envious. My daughter had the chicken tenders and my wife had fried shrimp. Prices were great considering the portions, and like I said - nothing was "bad" ... but I've definitely had better. I like to go to The Pug when I'm in town to get their fabulous barbecue sauce to go. This time I did order a rib sandwich as well. While the sauce lived up to expectations, I did notice that the ribs didn't have any flavor. So without the sauce, they would've been pretty inedible for me. We have not been to the pig barbecue in probably 25 years and we were in the area so we thought we would stop for breakfast. It was OK nothing spectacular. The omelette was on the smaller side but was stuffed very well. They are extremely limited on toast and the biscuits are not fresh and homemade. They do not offer butter, rather artificial margarine spread at the table. The restaurant was clean the ice tea was fresh and we did have a nice waitress. So this week's lunch adventure took me on a nostalgic path. Being a native of this wonderful city of Jacksonville I've eaten at many BBQ spots and The Pig is one of them. More than 3 decades they have been bringing Barbecue to the fine folks in multiple locations. Growing up in Springfield the Lem Turner location was our neighborhood spot to grab a family lunch or dinner when we could. So when I went on a blind mission for lunch, my brain unconsciously led me to The Pig on Lem Turner. They are open for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, yes a BBQ place that serves breakfast!! Really disappointing. I'm not sure the pork is even smoked. It was served in a bowl of water. Servings are very small. All of the vegetables are nothing more than out of a can. Even the special vegetables are canned. The potato salad was not even remotely edible. Publix far exceeds this potato salad. Far too many great bbq places to even consider this one. This is the Pig to go to! Love the ribs, chicken & most importantly the chopped pork sammich! The sides are delicious too! Best chopped pork sammich in town if you ask me. Don't get me wrong I love Bearded Pig and some of the others,, but The Pig has that delicious North FL BBQ style! (and the best spicy mustard BBQ sauce I've ever had.,) that spicy mustard!! Are usually have a great experience with the pig barbecue. It is usually my go to place for ribs and usually the ribs are fall off the bone and delicious. Today for some reason it was Sunday and it was busy in there and I got my go to ribs a large rib plate with fries and a side salad as usual. To start off with the fries were not done. It's like they forced them out of the fryer or the fries jumped out on the plate before they were ready. The ribs had the texture of that rubber thing you use to open jars up. Way to Chuey. I didn't even eat them all. They were too busy for me to ask for a manager so they must be doing something right. The waitress Advised me that my complaint wasn't the first one today about the ribs. We do not live in Jax, but are frequent visitors. We went to the shack by the tracks in Ga, but when they closed we were lucky to have tried this location on lem turner. Everything is down home- the food and the people. You will not find nicer servers than there. They become family. And we have had a lot of ribs, and we have not found any yet to hold up to the pigs. We get them dry, Center cut. It lets the smoke and the meat speak for themselves, just like it should. The sides are a bit disappointing to this Yank, as they are southern style, meaning too much salt and cooked too much. The sweet tea is I am sure traditional but too sweet for me, so I will usually get a half and half which is just fine. It is our tradition now to stop in any time we are in Jax!!!! read more

I eat here less than at the Normandy location, but the food quality is the same, and the service may be slightly better. Maybe that's due to my visits here being mostly at dinner, and not so much lunch. OK - so we have a family member drive a moving truck all the way to Jax from Baltimore, MD. He was dog tired so we wanted to give him a good meal. We took him to Joe's Crab Shack. It was absolutely the worst dining experience that I could even think of in years. The steak was dry and undercooked; the shrimp was dry and even the broccoli was dry. The Mashed potatoes were outstanding. The calamari was hard and hurt our teeth! We sent the meals back and feared that this horrible dining experience would come to represent his experience of being in Jacksonville. I will say this! The MANAGEMENT staff a Joe's were nice and accommodating, but our waiter did not pay attention to detail, and I witnessed him getting very cozy with the cute staff up front! Initially, we wanted to go to the pig, but it had closed. SO the next day we went to our stomping ground and when we walked in the front door they all shouted as they know us and when we saw that the house was full we just laughed. The food on every plate looked visually stunning. It was gloriously beautiful in color and smelled and looked like it was to die for. Every plate we saw was unbelievably stunning! When our food arrived, it was amazing and our guest stated before ordering, " I want everything". I can not even begin to thank the Pig for saving the day as we love Jax. Our guest was so happy and the Pig made us look SOOOOO GOOD! We spent way more than we ever had before and our families enjoyed every bite! When our guest thinks of Jax, he will be thinking of his amazing experience at "The Pig" and when he returns to Jax, he will be thinking of his immediate return to the PIG!
