A coworker mentioned this location and another coworker said the hand-cut fried squash was a must! It would be rude not to, so I ordered when we went for lunch. She didn't warn me that it was like molten lava biting into one, and I completely burnt the roof of my mouth that hindered the flavor of other items here as well as for a few days. Ultimately on me for not thinking better, but wish we got the courtesy be careful when biting in as they are HOT HOT. My grandfather visit Bono's everytime we are in Jacksonville. This was our first visit to this location. Very nice and inviting as you walk in. Our server was Kat, very pleasant and prompt on her service. She offered me a refill of my soda to go. The food came out so fast and was fresh and hot. Their sweet and tangy BBQ sauce was to die for. I have been taking both clients and guests to lunch here since this franchise opened. Today however will be my last time going to this location. I met a colleague for lunch and to talk about an upcoming project. Immediately after eating $60 worth of food and drink we began talking when the server came up and told us that if we were finished that we needed to either leave or pay her an additional $15 because that's how much she would lose in tips if we stayed any longer because she needed to make rent. My guest and I took her as joking. But a few minutes later she came back and told us again that we needed to vacate the table. Now mind you that I could see if we had camped out for an extended period of time but less than 5 minutes had passed. Nevertheless, we got up and took our conversation to the parking lot, which only lasted another 5 minutes to complete, but this entire episode has left such a sour taste that neither myself or my guest will ever return to this branch and from here on out we will go to either Beach or San Pablo. read more

We enjoy Bono's smoked turkey. It's always moist and tender. Often times we purchase a couple of pounds and use it for salads in this summer heat, chopped up in a taco or just for sandwiches. Simply good bbq! I like to keep it simple when I got to Bono's- with a pulled pork sandwich. This visit I mixed it up a bit and got the messy pig which is a pulled pork sandwich (no sauce) plus Cole slaw. It comes on a big bun instead of the sliced white bread that the sandwich normally comes on. The 1949 sauce is my favorite. It's not spicy at all and has a nice mustard note. I enjoyed the addition of the cole slaw on the sandwich. My mom and I were able to get a 2 for 25 deal which included two entrees (each had to be under about 12 dollars) and two banana puddings. The entrees that we got came with 1 side each so she had the baked beans and I enjoyed the hot & crispy fried okra with a little ranch dressing. read more

Had dinner a few nights ago at this location and ordered the 3 meat combo (2 Brisket 1 Pork) for $18.99 which was quite tasty but one of the briskets was a bit dry on the end. Came with baked beans and macaroni for the sides and they were alright, just a bit mushy on the Mac. Ordered crunchy, friend Okra too. Yummy! Service was terrible, my waitress was talking poorly about other guests and was busy talking to her other coworkers. Staying at a nearby hotel we walked up for a late supper. Sat at the bar. Greeted immediately and served our drinks quickly. As we sipped we noticed the decor was nice and very bbq-e. They have a drive thro which is pretty cool. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered our food and waited for maybe ten minutes.... Not very long. I had the pork platter with Mac and Brunswick stew. He had the 3 meat platter of pork, brisket and sausage plus a corn on the cob and beans. Both came with a slice of buttered bread. The food was wonderful. The only minor thing was the sides were in the cool side as far as temperature. But that could have been because it was 8:30 and they close at 9. We didn't even mention it because everything was still great. The staff were super friendly. The place was clean including the bathrooms. The patrons seemed pleased with their food and service. First trip to the renovated Bono's and I sat outside on the patio. Food was as good as ever. The fried okra was fresh and hot. The pulled pork and brisket were both fresh as were the beans and collards. The half and half tea was just right without being too sugary. I have to admit that I found it unbelievable that once the pit boss put food on your plate and then decides to take some back as completely unacceptable. Today was the second time they did this. That is beyond cheap. I understand portion control, but once it's on your plate you should be served. So now they have my attention and I start to notice more instances that were not sanitary. For example, meat was falling off into a dirty area and they were picking it up and placing back the in warming drawers where all the food comes from. The lady handling the bread seemed to have itchy scalp. Thankfully I didn't eat the bread, but a lot of others did. Done! Never going back! read more

It was an enjoyable lunch nonetheless but Bonos only provided a decent place to sit with friendly service. Other Bono's around town do a way better job than this one (based on this visit). I may give this location one more try but if the brisket is the same as it was today, it's going back to the kitchen. Coleslaw was dry, no dressing of any kinds. Not even a drop of liquid on the bottom of the container. Hot foods were hot, cold foods were cold, garlic bread was good. (Don't trust their ETA's we ended up waiting an extra 20 minutes and had we not checked out bags in the car we would have driven off missing an entire entree and set of sides) The burger with pulled pork was tough. The rib meat was chewy. And the sauces given were not only pre-packaged but they were wrong. We were shorted on the number of little tubs of sauce and none of us got the types we ordered. It wasn't worth the money, given the quality of the food and the subpar service (missing entree + wrong sauces).
