We ordered the firecracker, Cuban, Texas, mango something, playboy, and something else but I can't remember... our favorite was the firecracker!! The flavors worked very well with another and I loved every second of it. The only downside is that the rolls were poorly rolled. It was not tight and would break apart when you barely touch it. I feel like they put more effort into presentation than the quality instead. Moreover, their soda are canned and there are no refills so keep that in mind if you drink a lot of soda with your meal! The service was prompt but the only thing was the seating arrangement. There is a bar type of area and then two tables in the very front. If you walk back, there are more tables but we didn't know that so we sat in the front. Sitting in the front was very awkward. The chefs at bonsai sushi advertise on the door "healthy/fresh alternative" in a kind bold times new Roman font printed on 8.5/11 paper. I agree with this printing - it as a healthy/fresh alternative. The bold times new Roman sign could not read more true. Faced with the alternative of 5 sushi bros (right up the street turning sushi into t-shirts), or sushi burrito (right up the street creating sushi abominations) or even Itto sushi (a bit further away but still just tempura bullshit), I feel gifted to have found bonsai. So often when we hear "healthy" or "fresh" we assume a trade off in flavor. But I assure you if you visit bonsai you will reach a level of flavor 5 sushi bros' strange fried shrimp mayo basket ball" will never bring you. And it's BECAUSE it's simple. Bonsai's menu has no potstickers, no gyoza, no "sesame sweet ball". There are two sections: Nigiri 2pc and Make rolls 8pc. I'm each of these you are offered a variety of chef's choice but only 4 kinds of fish and one eel. Between those two sections you can find SOME house rolls that MAY include from time to time some cream cheese. But this is not what they want you to order. They want you to keep away from the center of the menu you where the Provo pleasing Vegas rolls are. And you should trust their judgement. Because the nigiri here makes you forget you are nowhere near the ocean. It tastes fresh. The vinegar on the rice is balanced so perfectly you can't help but taste every ounce of flavor left in the fish after it's massive commute here. Honestly, I sometimes forget I'm thousands of miles from the place hamachi is. Their attention to non-gimmicky detail causes an appreciation for the fish such that the miles between the source disappear. The secret is their perfectly vineyard sticky rice. It's a delicious edible plate, not a distraction. I assume they source their fish as fresh as possible and attempt never to freeze it on the way here. But the fact that they've been able to maintain that taste/commitment to freshness in the midst of pandemic?! Unbelievable. I'm all for this place. Grub hub and postmates bury them. For a roll that comes out to be over a foot long (about 1/2), I can't complain. I ordered: - Bonsai - Delicious - Cuban - The Best! - California - really good - Alaska - really good - rock and roll roll- Delicious! - mango habanero (it's not spicy. It's just the taste.) DELICIOUS - Atlantic - Delicious (this one is a warm roll) The owners are Hispanic (who would have thought), but they must love the Japanese culture cuz they got it right. I had a really great experience here! The server was so sweet, the decor was cute, the music was so good, and the service was fast. The rolls are great prices for how much you get. My boyfriend and I usually go to Five Sushi Bros and their rolls are so small! At Bonsai Sushi they make big fat rolls which I love. Love this place. My family especially loves the firecracker and the Atlantic. The firecracker is deep fried and is described as spicy but it's not too spicy for my kids. Honestly my oldest child complains that they don't have a spicy roll. The Atlantic is baked and has really good flavor. Both are great if you have people in your party who don't love raw fish but you still want rolls that are sophisticated enough for sushi lovers rather than grocery store flavors. We get plenty of rolls with raw fish like the bonsai and the sashimi is always fresh. Wish they had vegetable tempura but that's my only complaint. We love the taro and melon boba too. read more

Best sushi in the valley. The nigiri is the best (by a very wide margin) and should be something you should at least try, even if nigiri isn't normally your thing. I recommend the yellowtail, seared with salt and pepper. It is out of this world for the price and the fact we are in UT. The only places that compare are much, much more expensive and I can only think of one in salt lake that can match the freshness of their fish and preparation. They have a secret off-menu selection that is really good. I don't want to spoil all the chef's secrets, but the mama roll is a very good place to start. The Omakase nigiri platter shouldn't be missed, but if you don't want to go big on nigir, do a single yellowtail or salmon, seared with salt and pepper, I promise it will be the best three bucks you can spend today. read more
