Other than the parking and accessibility, this is one of my favorite places to go for an inexpensive meal. Their green curry sandwich is my favorite -- the chicken is tender and the roll is fresh, and I love the combination of spicy with a touch of sweetness. About $8 for a terrific sandwich. Important to call ahead for your order. Very limited room to maneuver while waiting for orders. And with only one register handling all orders, it can be a true "packed like a can of sardines" experience. read more

I'm not saying its authentic, but it is darn good and healthy. I always get a soup and the spring rolls. Perfect post hike, bike or run meal. I love that it is super casual, they play great music & don't try to shoo you away to turn tables. I could go there at least twice a week if I lived in MV. I'm a Mill Valley local and I love Boo Koo, (formely Charlie HK's). The peanut noodles with green curry chicken on top are sooo good! As is the saute, and the salads... and the drinks!! The food is very FRESH, TASTY, and the portions are hefty! It's the best price for the food I know of any where in Mill Valley. Fun to sit inside at a table or outside on the stools or even take the food to the depot area and sit outside if the weather is good. Do yourself a favor and try this place! It will be one of your easy new Marin faves. read more

Absolutely fantastic healthy food. The menu has really come together over the past few months. Had insane salmon salad the other day. I would eat it everyday post workout if i could. The beef dishes have really great flavor. You can taste the quality of their ingredients. Always seem to be fresh from a farmers market. Restaurant was closed for a "staff meeting" supposedly, and was asked to come back in 10 minutes, waited for 30 minutes. Finally gave up and went go Veggie Grill not too far away. Never coming back to this for sure! read more

I heart this place, and have been coming here for my post-hike lunches for 3+ years now. The Brussels sprouts are amazeballs, and anything with the tofu or hoisin pork is spot-on. They also make some mean housemade sodas, and their Arney is top-notch. My kids especially love the red rooster bento box. read more

Small dining area aside, this place serves great healthy food, and refreshing drinks. I've been here multiple times, and cannot verify all the negative and low ratings other yelpers have given. This has become my go to spot in Mill Valley for inexpensive delicious food. I have had several items on the menu and enjoyed them all. I really want to like the food here. I've tried many items, but yesterday I was really disappointed. I ordered the Indo rice bowl with brown rice and green curry chicken to go. It was all crammed into a small container and really hard to eat from at my desk. The rice seemed really greasy and oily The chicken had very little curry flavor to it. I would not recommend the food and I have tried eating different items for lunch on 4-5 different occasions. read more

I think this place is going through growing pains. That would explain the widely varying reviews. The concept is strong and when it's at it's best- it's immensely satisfying. Really enjoy eating here or taking their food to go. Creative, unique menus using high quality ingredients. Last night we ordered Vietnamese chicken wings as a starter. They were just spicy enough and very tasty. Our rice bowls with curried chicken and salmon were full of fresh vegetables and perfectly seasoned. It's a small place, maybe 8 tables but comfortable with a good vibe. Because it's a great resource for take out if they're full you can grab some to go. I'm laughing at how bad my 1st & last Boo Koo experience was. I was concerned when it took 3 people to process and finalize my to-go order of two food items and one drink. I was confused when the sparkling lemonade wasn't ready even though I was 15 minutes late to pick up my order--which means it took Boo Koo over 45 minutes to get it together for a lemonade. I was pissed when I got home and even though I repeatedly confirmed online and in person "no cilantro" on either dish (allergic), I opened the box and there it was. To make it worse, the fish was dry and pad Thai greasy. But the topper has to be when the second staff member to process my order said verbatim, "our system doesn't work." Too true. The food wasn't bad, but I spent $17 dollars on the Pad Thai. Not only was it ridiculously priced it was a child sized portion. I went here a few times when they had first opened and was extremely impressed with the portion sizes. Now they are about a quarter of the size and the same crazy price. I had to go somewhere else to get more food because I was still famished. I also asked for water three times and did not get it until I was nearly finished with my meal. read more

We've been to this CA-Thai fusion eatery twice. It eeks its way up to a 3+ overall. The place isn't that comfortable with most of the seating on metal stools and in a noisy chaotic atmosphere--so it isn't the best unless you can snag a regular chair at a table. FOOD: Summer Rolls ($4) for only two small pieces...they didn't have enough filling and were overly gelatinous (2 stars). The Mighty Mint Salad was very refreshing and good ($8 - 4 stars). The Thai Beef Salad seemed a bit sparse in its ingredients (salad-wise)--the beef was ordered medium-rare and came out quite rare but the flank steak was tender and good ($11 - 3+ stars). The Banh Mi Sando w/ Hoisin Pork ($8 - 3+ stars) was filling but I felt it didn't have much nuance and the texture reminded me more of pulled pork. The other dish we've had was the Indo Rice Bowl ($7) with Green Curry Chicken (+$3.50)...it was a nice meal but bland and my partner had to keep adding sauce from the table (3+ stars). SERVICE: friendly, nice, a little rushed. PRICES: they seem low until you wish to add meat or tofu or something else to make a meal...then it begins to add up. Their spiffy seltzer waters will definitely increase your bill. ATMOSPHERE: as mentioned, it's noisy and uncomfortable (2+ stars) yet still a nice break from the more traditional restaurants. The menu is fun and interesting and I would try it again - can recommend it as a very casual eatery. read more

Noisy Noisy Noisy! The clanking of the dishes amplified in this tiny place. The service was awful. I asked for ice and I was told I couldn't have any so I went to the bar and got it myself. We had an appetizer and we couldn't get small plates so we could eat the food. I asked 3 different servers. Four of us were served at all different times and the food was tasteless. I had to keep a finger in one ear because the clanking of the pans NEVER stopped. What an awful experience! read more

New fast-food style Asian place where Ino sushi once was. Its location in downtown Mill Valley, coupled with the concept of decent fast food, makes it a likely success. We had Ban Minh sandwiches, as found in any Vietnamese restaurant. They were tasty, spicy, and on a true French baguette, which raised their price and harmed their authenticity. The Bahn Mi was good, if over-priced. My wife had the shaking beef salad and it really sucked. On top of that it was $14.00 and I could go get the real thing at Slanted Door for the same price. Worst Salad Roll ( Tiger Prawn Roll). Tasteless. Impossible to chew wrapper. No herbs, marinade, flavor what so ever. Peanut sauce was crap. Not too often that I spit stuff out. So disappointing. Not really sure where this Steve guy is coming from but Boo Koo has some good food if you're in the mood for some street food. The hoisin pork over rice is my favorite dish here, I've had this dish a couple times a week before. The wraps are a nice starter before you get going on your main dish. The service could be a little better " they didn't know who I was three minutes after I ordered...doesn't matter though it's a young staff in there, as long as they stay friendly and make good pork I'll be coming back. read more

I ordered Chicken Pho. I personally think it is 3.5-4 star. Nice interior, clean and has a fusion vibe to it. You could get pad Thai, sandwich, pho here. Service is nice except water arrived a bit slow. Didn't wait too long for the pho. Pho is special because it's chicken. The pho came full of broth, not much fragrance. No one from Boo Koo had let us know in the 40 minutes that had gone by, and there was no one on site to even give us a refund! Reena R. is right on! Our family loves this place for an easy weekend dinner option. It's also a lot roomier and less "smokey" inside since they expanded. There's a tiny outdoor area that you can sit at (bartop), and there is an indoor bar with tv screens if you'd like to stick around and watch the game. Their food is always flavorful, and there are so many options. You can go super healthy, gluten free, etc., or you can be a greasy glutton if that's your fancy too! I love their salmon salad, and the gcn (gcn is a little greasier in my opinion). This was my first time eating at this place. The food was really good but, what killed my experience at this place was the service. It was horrible! It took more then 15 minutes to get waited on, the food came out in an orderly fashion (that was a plus!!!). We didn't get any plates for our appetizer (we had to ask someone to get us some). When we got our entrees, server didn't bother to check to see if we had everything or how we were doing, didn't check to see if we needed refills or anything (I went to the bar to get another pitcher of beer myself :/). Took forever to get us the check (I asked for it myself). Didn't ask us if we wanted boxes (yet I saw a girl packing other people's food to-go). Once we were ready to pay, no one bother to pick up the money from the table (I went and gave it to the server myself). You can tell some customers were getting annoyed at the slow paced service. The people that work in front of the restaurant seem very young and inexperienced. Owners need to hire servers with experience if they want people to rate them 5 stars. I worked in the restaurant business for 10+ years and I know what to expect when I go and eat at a restaurant. It's very unprofessional to see the servers seating at the bar chit-chatting or talking at the hostess stand talking about their outside life. If that was the case, these people need to work at a fast food restaurant. I would probably comeback again, but hopefully they have a better wait staff. read more

Charlie Hong Kong is a welcome sight for sore eyes to the Mill Valley food scene. One more "California Cuisine" restaurant in town soeccializing in various dead animals, and I might gag. I love that CHK has many vegan offerings, and most of what I've tasted has been pretty darn good. Favorite is the Tofu Banh Mi sandwich, and the Thai Coconut-Mushroom soup. Yummy healthy goodness. Only thing I tried that I wasn't crazy about was the Pad Thai - a bit too much vinegar for my taste. And great iced tea served in a cool mason jar. Yep, will be back. Now bring on more ethnic, veg friendly restaurants to our S. Marin paradise! read more
