I had bought some items off of Alakazam's eBay store and had a great experience (I love that they…read moreoffer in store pickup to avoid shipping fees & that my wife could go pick up for me) so when it was Free Comic Book Day and I found myself in the area, I thought I would check them out. I'm so glad I did. This location is very unassuming. You might pass it without even realizing it as it's in a very nondescript office space area near the airport. But once you walk in, you can easily be overwhelmed with the sheet volume of inventory they have. It was great to see! I will say they tend to favor older issues and most of them are only semi organized in long boxes so you might have to do some flipping through to find things, but I guarantee you will be rewarded. I was able to come across several back issues that I had been looking for and some I didn't know I had been looking for. And when I asked them if they had any other variants from the series I had bought from them off eBay, they happily pulled out a long box from the back full of them that they flipped through and let me hand pick what I needed. That was some fantastic customer service. Even on a busy day like FCBD. Speaking of customer service, the two workers who were there were so incredibly friendly and helpful. From talking to my 3 young sons who were with me to chatting about what I was looking for and how I could find it. I was really impressed. I have a feeling that if it wasn't so busy, they would've walked over and searched with me just because they care that much. Honestly, if I didn't live in Los Angeles, this would become my local shop hands down. But, I can guarantee when I'm in Orange County and am looking for anything, I will absolutely be coming by to check out what they have. And, I will definitely be stopping at their eBay shop first if I'm looking for anything online. Do yourself a favor. Check out Alakazam. If you're a comic book fan, it will be worth your time. And if you're just thinking about getting in to comics, this would be a great place to start your journey.

Retro Games Plus is a hidden gem if you're into old-school gaming. The staff is chill and helpful without hovering, which makes it easy to just browse and take your time. Prices are fair, and the nostalgia factor alone makes it worth stopping by. Gotta call the next afternoon with a very low ball offer ...they claim to pay the most......I went to BookOff the week before and got quoted double the price??? Then I was told that two of the gaming systems didn't work . I had no issues with BookOff. BookOff tested them, they had no issues. When I went to pick up my stuff, I guess a third gaming system-had been added to the not working list it had a bight green posted attached. Thankfully... Just picked up my money from BookOff with no issues they took all the systems. ***Math isn't mathing.

Uhm, SOME records is a severe under-exaggeration of what's offered at 1 Look. When we walked in, Davey immediately greeted us and asked what we were looking for so we pulled up a list of some records on a "hit list," then browsed around while he checked to see if he had any of them. Meanwhile, I hunted around - everything is in total organized chaos, with records everywhere, but clearly labeled by genre. The first record I pulled was Biggie's Ready to Die, which was an obvious must buy. We chatted music while searching and when I mentioned I was a Wu Tang fan, he put on one of GZA's first tracks that really kicked things off, that was unknown to me. Davey is someone who knows music and seems to really love what he does. The shop also features a ton of awesome vintage clothes, comic books, and different nostalgic items (plus VHS and DVDs too, which definitely made me feel old). We left with 4 records at great prices and will continue to come back anytime we're in Huntington! Such a unique space that you could spend HOURS in and not uncover all the magic in that place.

I want to give a shout out to the 4 staff members I interacted with on 4/2. They were on staff an hour before closing. Everyone was so nice! I didn't have any questions but 1 staff member approached me letting me know the book I was holding is the $5 cafe book which worked out perfectly because I also wanted a snack from the cafe. Another staff member just offered a recommendation for me off a table of books I was admiring, which was very thoughtful. The staff members at the cafe were also very friendly and conversational. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't get anybody's names but I enjoyed my experience visiting that evening. I will most likely come back when I can make the drive down to Fashion Island.
