Good place to find rare or odd anime related items from japan. I've had very good experiences in with their back program they have in the past. But most recently tried selling some anime figures and was very disappointed in what they had to offer. Few things I was selling I know for a fact was worth a lot more than they offered. They cross reference online price market including Amazon, ebay, poshmark, including their own database. One item selling for $120 online they offered me $26 which is ridiculous! The item in question after their review was marked buy at $26 and sell for $120 wtf! This kinda scam is going to drive away ppl from going there! read more

I wish I could rate the level of service at more than five stars because the people that helped me out during my visit definitely deserve 10 stars at the very least. Zach, Hector, and Thalia are literally the nicest most helpful people I have come across in a very long time at a store. They are super knowledgeable about the products that they have, and even educated me on so much stuff that I didn't know about before that I was very interested in now. I also want to add that this store has an amazing collection of all sorts of books at a very reasonable price. Being an interior designer, I'm constantly looking for a coffee table books and specifically art ones. These books can go up to hundreds of dollars and at bookoff, I was able to find brand new ones that were still in the wrapping for about 10 to 20$. They also buy books that are in good condition as well as an assortment of action figures and comic books and all sorts of really awesome things. The pricing they will offer you for your items is very fair and ultimately I think that what this store is trying to do is make things that may not be affordable to most people affordable and they are doing an amazing job at it. Nothing in the store was lacking quality and most importantly looked pretty much new. I really love this Store and the people who Work here are so amazing I really recommendn this place to not only collectors, but also to designers, artists, or anybody creative. read more

Fun and full of stuff. Tons of used books, DVDs, Blu-rays, and lots of Funko Pops and other figurines. Also sells some gaming gear. The back aisles will make you feel like you're in Japan with shelf after shelf of manga etc. It's a bit small and dense with stuff (wouldn't be great for someone using a wheelchair) but the unexpected discoveries are part of the fun. We sold some used DVDs and Blu-rays and they don't pay a lot of money, to be honest, but their system is pretty user-friendly and their re-sale prices are pretty reasonable, so I don't think that's a ding against them. read more

Amazing used book store! It is incredibly organized and has great prices. They have a very large discounted book section as well for $1. They have a massive section of collectibles in near mint condition (imported figures, Star Wars toys, funko pops, records, comics). This place is great! You can find a lot of older and out of print manga in both Japanese and English. It is also has an array of Blu Rays, DVDs, toys, and older video games. I could spend hours there. I also made some decent money with their selling program. I made about $150 selling my DVD collection and about $50 for some books and comics. Their buy back rate for DVD's is decent as long as they are in good shape (usually $1.50 to $3.00). Though do expect not to get much for books or comics. I had sold a lot of single issue comics and about 20 or so manga that I didn't intend on keeping to get that $50. The staff is great and friendly. On my most recent trip the guy helping us was rather awesome. I don't remember his name, but he's tall with a black ponytail. Knows his stuff. I will come here again, because there is plenty of stuff I would buy. read more

What a cool little niche for anima/manga lovers!! It's a little crowded, but it just has so much stuff!! Everything is pretty organized, and there are clear sections for DVD, collectors items, anime, and manga. A lot of the manga is in Japanese, but there are English versions. I like how they have bundles of complete series if you want the whole thing. read more

Couple days ago I went to Bookoff for shopping. The manager, AJ, and Katherine told me that I can refund the items if I bring the receipt and I spent more than $100! I bought many different items And I'd like to exchange just couple of them. I went the shop today and They said first ok but let's check with manager and they said you have to wait 2 hours because manager is not here! I said I can't wait that long and 5 minutes later they said no we can't refund the money also you can't exchange either! .. later they said it was past time we don't care and then they said our employee didn't say this may be you are saying lie! What the!!! No need to describe or explain anything: what a amateur people, what a cheap management! Worst customer service I had ever ! Very rude and very unprofessional!!! read more

Went in a few weeks to sell some DVDs and Toys. With the DVDs, I was like "eh, whatever, they've just been taking up space and collecting dust" so I was good with whatever they offered. But the toys, they either thought I didn't know what I had or they didn't do their research. One item alone is worth over $100. They offered me $25...for all the toys. So I sold the DVDs and took my toys home with me. Disappointing experience as a seller...but the store itself is cool...so 2 stars. read more

Customer service is everything! It creates an experience that is sorely needed in a burgeoning contactless economy. For example, the cashier was not customer focused. He literally dropped a wadded up change onto the counter. There was a time when change was counted back to the customer. I frequent BO because of their business model and try to appreciate the disappearing art forms of disk media, music and games, and hard copy books. But, i brought in some books to sell and the cashier was mute to basic customer service. Notwithstanding, i bought some books from the Del Amo store on Saturday and they were very engaging. It gives people a reason to get out from their home and vehicle, and contribute to our economy in person. Thanks! read more

I like this place! I came looking for a baby book for a friend's baby shower. It's a bit hard to find titles but I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for, a Mr. Frog and Mr. Toad book from my childhood. It was in near perfect condition. The stocker was helpful and the cashier was polite and efficient. The price was exactly what I would expect to pay for a gently used but good condition hardcover children's book. If I had more time I would check out the rest of the store. read more

I had a hard time rating this place. On one hand, I love the niche stuff they have here that isn't really available in most other used bookstores. For a otaku/weaboo/nerd/geek etc this place is wonderful. A lot of things are cheaper, but not necessarily cheap. I'm sure those that are part of this culture already knows that. Overall this place is really cool for just browsing and picking a few things here and there. What irked me was the privileged people who frequents this place and demands exorbitant amount. Maybe it was my luck that within 2 hours of being in the store, I witnessed 2 adults throwing tantrums because they didn't get the price they expected from their kung fu dvds or textbooks from the 80s. In my years of visiting the San Diego location, I've never witnessed that. I'm uncertain if location of this one welcomes more privileged folks? So it's not Bookoff's fault, but it's still a WTF moment for me. In other news, Bookoff, if you read this can you PLEASE leave a message if you're calling us that our appraisal is ready? With the amount of spam we get nowadays, having you call twice without leaving a voice mail just doesn't hack it. I ended up waiting for 2 hours in the store when I got a missed call from you guys 30 minutes in. Pretty bummed about that. read more

My first impression going into this location is that they had a large selection of Funko pops. Found some rare ones as well. However, the prices was so over priced from 20% up to over 400%. Did not like how a lot of them had a price sticker on the Funko Pop boxes. They have questionable inventory since everything is almost at retail price or higher, even the secondhand bix damaged ones. What contributed to my poor experience here is that I am a ADA shopper and was repeatedly ignored at the front desk when I waited off ti the side for quite a while just to get someone's attention. One of the staff, I'm assuming is the manager/owner, was right in front of me, and Did not bother asking if I needed help neither nor paid attention. Had another employee ask outloud if anyone could help me since i had been waiting a while. I felt ignored, and the vibe they gave me was that they did not want someone like me, ADA, to shop in the stores. I am not happy at all and will not return to this location. They do not seem trust worthy neither do they seem to care much about the consumer. In my opinion, very arrogant, greedy, and not welcoming. I would have purchased over 20 Funko Pops easily and some other things. Now to go to Gamestop or other shops that sell secondhand funkos. Im not surprised they have a huge selection of funkos here but its likely because no one wants to buy overpriced 2nd hand/questionable merch. read more

Great used book store. Huge selection and the books are pretty much new and about 75% off retail. I found a bunch of nice children's books for just a few dollars each, they even have a large section with books for one dollar. Service is friendly and helpful, glad to see that places like this are still around. read more

This is a gem of a place. They have everything here. If you are old school and yes I still hang on to my cds, dvds, blu rays, older books. I love the $1 section, cds, dvds, and books. I found 9 films Fast furious here for $7 and a few rare cds, dvds and books. I only visited the place twice, haven't decide to sell yet but I will prob hang on to my items since I'm a collector. I just sell most on ebay.. The only drawback is the tight parking area plaza, most staff workers are nice and answer my questions promptly. 4 stars. read more

I've been to this location a couple of times in the last 2-3 years. It's located in a strip mall and there's not that much parking. The store itself is the most cramped of the 3 locations I've been to when there are just a couple of other people in the same aisle. (Lakewood and Torrance are the others.) I'm always game for a good treasure hunt, and Bookoff is the perfect place for one. You start off with a general layout of the store, and they guide you along by haphazardly alphabetizing things, but then it's all up to you, fellow treasure hunter. I didn't spend much time in the DVD section, since I'm strictly a Blu Ray gal these days and their Blu Ray section consisted of approximately 13 options. I didn't spend much time in the CD section either because...well, what is this? 1998? CD's? Next you're gonna be telling me how awesome Zima is, aren't you? I DID, however, spend quite a bit of time in the book section. And I plan to spend much more time. See, the reason that some folks hate Bookoff, is the very reason I looove it - the sort of haphazard organization and selection of books. I can treasure hunt here all afternoon. A couple of treasure hunting tips: -Be sure to survey the dollar section first, because I found a few repeats in the regular, half-off section. -Don't begin your hunt after downing a giant iced coffee, because an urgent pee-need really puts a damper on things. -Don't have a plan. Just dive on in and begin your hunting, and I'm sure a treasure or two will shine through. read more

Here's a place to look for used books, manga, games, DVD's, and CD's in very good condition. They have a large selection of Japanese language books; it's a small store, but they make good use of the space they have. Note to those looking for a bargain buy: they have many sale items. You could easily walk in and buy a book for $1 plus tax. They started buying and selling purses here. They don't buy high end bags. They used to give cash or credit for books, but now they only offer 10 cents for each book. They don't offer credit anymore. read more

DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS HERE. They average .20 cents per book.... I clearly did not know that when I brought in first edition books that were also signed by the author. Then their customer service was HORRIBLE. And they tried to tell me that I should be so happy that they were offering me a whopping .40 cents for some since they usually only offer .20 cents.....nope. I'm not impressed. I thought I had found a new place to buy and sell but I will not be doing neither here. read more
