What's not to love about Boons? I probably come here on average once a week. The food is great. My favorites are the John Dough pizza, bruschetta (seriously good), and the ceviche. Don't forget to ask for the free popcorn! And on Wednesdays it's 'big ass beer night' - so you can get a larger oz. beer for the price of a regular one. They have other specials throughout the week too: Mondays are steak night, Thursdays are crab legs, crawfish (when in season). The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick. The beer selection is great and they are always getting new seasonal brews in. The patio is first come, first serve and the indoor seating is nice too. They have dart boards that are open on nights when they aren't too busy. They also have a place to tie up if you want to come by boat! My only complaint is sometimes the service can just be okay - but for the most part they are on top of it! read more

I visited this place Saturday night for dinner with a friend, and it was so worth the trip :) We had the popcorn chicken as our appetizer -- it was seasoned really well...like when I hear popcorn chicken, I think fast food, but these were nothing like that. They were tender and the dipping sauces were wonderful. Main course was the Robosto Pizza -- very flavorful, nice crisp crust. I loved it. For drinks, I ordered 2 hurricanes. For some reason, the first one had more of an orange flavor, while the second had more of a cherry flavor, but they were both delicious, so it was actually a positive for me. Came here with a large group for appetizers and drinks after a tour at NASA. This is a less than 5 minute hop down the road and has indoor and outdoor seating. They had a good selection of beer: most notably the peanut butter cup tasting one and the hemp beer (yep-it smells and tastes like pot!). We were a loud crowd and our server handled us well. Nothing ever changes here. Which I love. The location is almost right on the water. There is a large brick patio with a small bar as you walk up. Inside is all wood with a fireplace. The dinning area has high ceilings with some tables scattered about. Some dart boards as well. The wood bar runs along the right. Just a handful of TV's and low music playing. A very chill place when I stopped in for an early lunch. Though I have been here at peak hours, and it still never gets to over crowded. Family friendly as well. Service is attentive and friendly. The bar is well maintained, and the kitchen is prompt. I wish the quality was a bit better (beer taps). Some old taps and soapy taps are not uncommon. The food is good. Pizzas are big here, but that is not the only thing on the menu. Some killer appetizers like bruschetta and ceviche along with the more typical pub grub. Lots of taps that caters to all tastes. One of the first places in the Houston area (along with Gingerman) to be a true beer bar. Though other places like Hay Merchant and Petrol Station have recently passed them up. Still plenty of good options. Saint Arnold, Real Ale, Deschutes, Stone, Anchor, Lagunitas etc. They will do a cask every once in a while. Usually something from Saint Arnold. I always enjoy Boondoggles. A great atmosphere, good beers and food. Very unpretentious. What a good pub should be, it is hard to ask much more out of a local pub. read more

Came here for dinner a couple nights ago and finally sat down to do a review. This place is awesome. Very comfortable atmosphere with a great bar. The food was amazing. I had the quatro formaggio pizza which comes with mushrooms and canadian bacon. It came out very fast owed, to the brick oven its cooked in. It was done perfectly and had a great flavor. YUM YUM!! the pizza is amazing!!! we've tried the pizza chips (which was basically a cheese pizza no sauce) very good, and the fried pickles are DELISH! when it comes to the pizzas we've had no complaints, we've tried the fajita pizza, the tejas pizza, the santa fe, the Hawaiian, and the jumbalaya. all have been good. the salads are also good, I've tried them all and have never been disappointed. the house vinaigrette is actually a creamy vinaigrette, which is great, and the balsamic is very tangy with the balsamic taste. I have had one thing that I was disappointed with and that was the Acapulco chicken. We stick to the pizza and salads here. Its a great place where the locals like to go. they also have a good selection of beers. read more

Took 10 min to take our order and since then We have been waiting for 45 min for food. We have had to ask repeatedly for tea When I got up to ask if we could please get our salad the first time she said the kitchen was backed up. After waiting 10 more minutes I got up and asked the hosted if someone could help her so we can enjoy our salad prior to the meal. She assured me that they were turned in separately and that would not be an issue. They said the kitchen is short a cook and 2 waiters short. While we understand circumstances there are appropriate ways to handle situations 1- let patrons know when you seat them or before taking the order the issues 2-don't seat people that you can not serve in a timely manner or that you do not have waitstaff to handle Shockingly we just got the salad at 50 minutes after ordering and the Cold steaks came 4 minutes later Needless to say We are not eating a cold steak so we sent it back. They also made a pizza instead of a calzone for my daughters meal so that went back as well. If the kitchen was so backed up and they are bringing food out asap then why we're both steaks cold?? Still waiting for round 2 of steak. And they keep seating more guests. Seriously do they not communicate with each other. On another note the visit to the hostess stand was to bring a manager to the table which we are still waiting for and that was 45 minutes ago. To make matters worse not one really seemed to care about the situation too much and almost acted like it was a normal situation. Very much worth dining here. Food is solid and I've had good luck with it generally being fresh/hot. Good beer selection and a very loyal customer base. What's not been consistent is good service. They typically have a large staff, so it's not necessarily from an overwhelming load on the wait staff. If you don't mind sitting with an empty drink for a while, it wouldn't be too bad. Or half the staff being a bit dry with personality and just going through the motions until they get cut from their shift. Worth visiting for the food quality and if you sit at the bar and are a social person, anyone and everyone will chat with you if you spark up a conversation (which I personally quite enjoy). read more

I've had several of their flatbread pizzas(all good) and I love the spinach salad. I have had some of their desserts like the Bourbon Pecan Pie and Cheesecake. Although they were good...they were a bit on the frozen side. As far as beer selections go, awesome selection and they even have ciders on tap for people like me who don't drink beer much. Worst service ever! My husband and I decided to give this place a try & by the looks of the parking lot we assumed it was going to be great. We walked in there were two young hostesses and an older blonde lady, the older lady tried to make us sit at a certain table right by the door although there were plenty of tables. We asked if we could sit at this high top table instead to which she rolled her eyes and said "sure".... we sat there for about 25-30 minutes with no service..... when another couple was seated at the opposite end of the same table, they had a server and menus within 2 minutes... we got up and left. I guess the moral or the story is don't question the old blonde chick or you're screwed. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with the decent pricing and good food. I have heard of this place but never been to it until recently. I'll agree with Farrah that they have quite a nice selection of beers, though I don't drink beer. What was much more important was the wide variety of unique pizzas! We had the jambalaya pizza and an order of fried pickles. I hadn't had fried pickles in quite a while, and was impressed with the flavor. The pizza was really tasty with crayfish and shrimp! Between the pizza and an appetizer it was plenty to share for dinner for two for about $20. I'm looking forward to giving this place another go when I'm on the SE side of town. read more

Nice pub near the water with pretty good bar food! I went on my lunch break, so obviously I couldn't bother being tempted by the beer menu, but everybody says they have a great selection. I ordered the mediterranean pizza and it was delicious- the goat cheese gave it fantastic flavor. My friend recommended next time ordering it extra crispy, which I'd never thought about doing before. Hooray Boondoggles! My husband and I just moved to this area and a coworker turned me on to this place after our bonding moment over a love of craft beer. We went on a Friday night and it was way crowded and the parking lot is a death trap. But finally we squeezed in to what we collectively decided was a parking spot (?) and headed in. They have a nice patio overlooking the little bay that comes in. Inside its a huge brick room with big wooden tables. There is a wood fire grill that creates delicious pizza. The bar is in one corner with a great selection of beers on tap and in the bottle. Lots of homage paid to St Arnolds, which I am totally okay with. Knowledgable bartenders who are friendly and like to offer up samples. Our server was a little off... she was new and when she forgot to bring our appetizer, she just said "oh I forgot"... no sorry, no can I bring to you now? or to go? or offer you a free dessert? Just "I forgot". Ok yeah we figured that one out ourselves. Therefore, I subtracted a star. The pizza was really good. I got the white pizza, a friend got one with canadian bacon and lots of stuff and they were both good. They had names but I cant remember. Did I mention there was a lot of beer going around? So I've been to this place several times. It's been on Monday evening's for their steak special. It's really good but I was severely disappointed the last time I was there. I was there at 3 pm, a couple hours before they serve the steak special. I understand specials are to be served at certain times of the day. What I had a problem with is being told I couldn't have a steak at all! I was willing to pay extra, I just wanted a steak! In my opinion that is just poor customer service! If you have the darn steak in stock there's no reason not to cook it and serve it! I considered just leaving but my daughter & I were both starving. So I ordered an appetizer just to curb my hunger.
