After passing by many times, we tried Bordentown Square. Nice looking place inside. Good selection of menu items. Food tasted good but not great overall. Son had the Argentinian sandwich, which for $22 could have had more steak than was was given. Seemed skimpy. I had the Jalapeno Fried Chicken Bomb sandwich. Aside from the chef forgetting to put the jalapeños on, it turned out to be a generic chicken sandwich. Good taste but nothing special for $19. Probably the most disappointing thing was the beer tap wall. Got the card. I tried four different taps and they were all kicked with a fifth running dry halfway through my pour. I handed the card back to the waiter telling him but he didn't seem concerned or surprised. I just ordered a beer from the bar. I'd seen a review where someone complained about kicked taps. If they're going to have it, they need to do a better job with upkeep, especially during prime dinner hours. Not sure if I'd visit again, considering Old Town Pub is up the street. I've been giving this fledgling business a chance to get up to speed with other Btown offerings, I'd say it still needs a bit of time. My good friend lives nearby and has visited a few times, so I finally joined her for a recent lunch. The place was fairly empty with the exception of a group of 7-8, maybe 15 patrons in total counting us. We wanted to share the cheesesteak nachos as an app, I ordered fish n chips and she ordered chicken and waffles. It seemed like we waited about 30 minutes or more, and finally all of our food came at once. This was unacceptable, we sent the already cold nachos back. I liked my piping hot and crispy cod, but the fries were lackluster. My friend thought her chicken pieces were good, but waffles seemed reheated. We finished with beignets which were pretty good. Management was kind in taking off the nachos, but it didn't make up for the fact that we were waiting so long for food while also seeing all the other orders coming out. It's a nice open space with a bar and black accents for decor. They boast a do it yourself tap wall with 20ish offerings. On this visit I couldn't find any beers I wanted try, my friend had a few cocktails which she enjoyed. I might return if I see something on the tap list that appeals to me. For now though I'll stick with other more consistent options in town. read more

We had come a prior time for drinks and an appetizer and it was fun and tasty with a cute vibe, so I decided to make a reservation for Mother's Day dinner. While the staff was genuinely warm and our waitress did an excellent job, the overall experience fell short of expectations. The restaurant had replaced its regular menu entirely with a limited Mother's Day prix fixe offering -- just four entrée options, no appetizers, and no bread service. For a special occasion, the lack of variety was disappointing, and the pricing was difficult to justify. A salad priced at $30 is hard to overlook when the food itself was, at best, average. The kids mac and cheese was super spicy, which was problematic for a children's dish. The dining room was nearly empty during our visit, and we watched two separate parties leave without ordering -- which seemed to reflect the same concerns we had about the menu's limitations and price points. The self-pour drink wall is a fun concept but it had repeated technical issues that required staff to re-authorize our card multiple times. Overall super disappointing. read more

Ah, Bordentown. A name that conjures... well, not much, if I'm honest. I arrived here by accident a curious side effect of trusting Google Maps and my own optimism in equal measure. Having recently absconded from England (and my family's endless committee meetings on how best to preserve the Wellington legacy of "taste and breeding"), I had hoped to begin my American culinary education in a place of quiet charm and honest fare. Instead, I found myself at the Bordentown Square Tap and Grille, lured in by a cheerful sign promising Taco Tuesday. What better way, I thought, to immerse myself in the culture of the common man simple food, shared joy, perhaps even a moment of transcendence. What I received, however, was neither simple nor transcendent. It was, to be frank, a crime against both Mexico and the sea. The so-called Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos were remarkable only in their absence of shrimp. I am not exaggerating when I say that I found more evidence of crustacean life in my hotel's decorative wallpaper. What remained was a tortilla drowning, no, basking smugly in a violent orange slurry of "spicy mayo," and the very same glaze one might find on a suburban Chinese spare rib at 1 a.m. I took one bite and felt something in me die, not physically, mind you, but spiritually. Somewhere in Somerset, I imagine my father looked up from his pheasant terrine and muttered, "He brought this upon himself." And perhaps he's right. Perhaps exile has its costs, and this taco is one of them. The service was polite, though I suspect the waiter could sense my despair. He asked if everything was "alright." A realatively new place in Bordentown, has nice curb appeal, interesting menu and drink serving (will come back to this) scenario that is unique to the NJ region. Server, Monica was prompt to greet us and get us started but we needed time to acclimate and undersand how the menu worked, and think through our meal as we like to share courses as opposed to a singluar entree and we don't eat large portions. More about quality of food and memoral flavors. So, once we got that understanding we started with an appetizer of PEI Mussels in conconut curry, a very nice size for sharing and nice flavor profile as our go to is fra diavlo sauce with a kick. Love thai so this was a nice diversion that we enjoyed. Next my wife wanted to try a burger dish (I do not eat burgers), she got the french dip burger, NO bun and substituated for sweet potato fries. Sounds good right, salivating maybe... had a nice plate presentation but didn't deliver. The burger was just a step larger then a traditional fast food restauarnt and have not flavor (I did taste a bite). The waffle sweet potato fries while again looked awesome on the plate, overcooked, dry, no real taste of sweet potato in the fry. Have had much much better elsewhere. I saw a servier giving another table a melted marshmellow side to dip their sweet potato fries into.... odd but I guess maybe a Jersey thing? My wife inquired and was told not offered with sides but only with the larger portion. Saved us the extra calories. I ordered the strawberry & spinach salad with ahi tuna. A lovely plating presentation, certainly a large protion. My only criticism was the ahi tuna was over seared, hence overcooked, should have been more pink. About the beverage scenario, kudos to a place that is making wine and beer drinking fun by having a wall of taps. You give your credit card/debit card and get a card that you tap the tap wall with to make your selection and pour your self. Its a big money maker for them. I've spent a lot of time in NYC at a Belgium beer cafe bar by my office, where I learned about the proper vessels and pours for different beers. It does make a difference. Here, 1 type of glass, tilt and pour. No sampling, you pay for your sample. Basically pay by the pour now matter how little (a taste) verse full glass. My bill was $100 for a meal that maybe should hav been $70 or so? 1 app, 1 burger dish, my salad with tuni, 1 glass win and 2 beers with 2 quick pour tastes. I'm not cheap, we eat at nice places, we want a nice meal after cooking 5 nights a week. But there is also a value for what you get. Hence why I feel a 3 star is a fair review. You'll see over my 8 year history on Yelp that I lean more to 4s and hover at 5s often. But that's because I follow other Yelpers who I respect and share common food interests with. We went down to try this place as it had recently opened. We were promptly greeted and decided to eat inside (they do have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice) the atmosphere in the place was enjoyable and not too loud for 4 in the afternoon. The place did start to fill up as we were leaving but while we were there it wasn't loud at all. It looks very nice on the inside as well. I ordered some of their New England Clam Chowder, the Fish & Chips, and then the Blueberry Cobbler for dessert. The clam chowder was delicious, even though it was a bit more on the runnier side than I've enjoyed for a clam chowder. The fish & chips were some of the best I've ever had; full of flavor, with choice of cocktail or tartar sauce. Now the Blueberry cobbler.....100 stars out of 10! It came out nice and warm with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It was very fresh and the perfect cap on a pleasurable meal. read more

Came here tonight. We used to frequent this space when it was Jesters. It's now called Bordentown Square. They have beer and wine on tap at a computerized bank self dispensary spigots. I saw they had a Dad's Hat Rye Old Fashion and since I just had my first Old Fashion at Dad's Hat PA and it was delicious, decided to try The Farnsworth ($14). Served in a martini glass, rather than in an old fashion cocktail glass. It was good. We had the Truffle Mushroom Glatbread and the Truffle Parmesan Balsamic wings. The wings were served on fresh bed arugula. Both dishes were delicious, fresh, and well-seasoned. Would have them again. The restaurant gives the impression of an upscale eatery with an affordable menu. I made a reservation at BTG because I wanted to change from other restaurants. I frequently visit on Farnsworth. I walked in and stood for about a minute and wasn't acknowledged by the bartender or the waitress. There was no hostess on staff that I could see the bartender, however, looked at me right in the face and never acknowledged me. My wife and I came in for dinner with another couple and were excited to try this place. We frequented often when it was Jesters and it's clear the owners did a lot to makeover and update the space. Outdoor seating looks like a fun option in warmer weather. Inside is fresh and bright but also a little more cozy in the back dining room. Our server was attentive and gave us plenty of time to acclimate and peruse the menu. Our friends tried out the self serve beer/wine taps and they enjoyed it. You give your credit card and they provide a card from the restaurant that is then used to track your purchases. Neat concept. I started out with spicy Thai peanut wings. Large wings and the spice level was appropriate. The peanut sauce was also good. My main course was spectacular. I ordered the "bone in" pork chop and I was blown away. The description on the menu did not adequately describe the masterpiece that was delivered to the table. I would go back again just for this dish. Served on a bed of delicious Mac and cheese. The glaze on the pork chop was amazing and the meat was juicy and cooked to perfection. Really happy to see this spot back open and thriving! Hats off to the chef, we'll be back! read more

I sat at the bar with a friend for a couple of beers and apps. Good vibe, very friendly staff, all professional. We both went for the tap wall. They give you a credit card to use to unlock the beer tap you want. I got kind of tangled up with that, one beer was mostly foam and I did not get much for each short pull. It adds a couple $ to the tab, even for a squirt of foam, because once you close the tap, you have to start over again with the card, so be careful. We'll be back. A fun place. read more

Very nice inside clean. Place was empty and yes it's Serve your self beer and wine but the bartender should not be hanging out with her friend and manager at the end of the bar and on her phone. For my meal I had the crab and corn chowder which was room temperature and the shrimp and grits was ok not much flavor and the risotto was clumpy not smooth at all over all the food was ok but so many other places that are way better in town. Bordentown has many great restaurants to me this place dose not make the cut read more

Excellent food! Poutine appetizer had great flavor although the fries would be better well done to hold some crispness in the gravy. Shrimp and grits excellent if you like Tobasco flavor.
