Fries were decent, coleslaw was great. Make sure you order the drinks (alcoholic) from the bar up front, then stand in line to order your food. I was a bit disappointed after trying this place. I dont know, maybe we did not order the right items? I got the fried grouper meal with rice and beans and my hubby got the fried grouper sandwich. I dont know about the sandwich but my meal was just meh... The fish was very small and just tasted ok... The beans were very bland also like they were from a can.. I was really stoked about coming here after reading such great things on yelp and other websites. I think maybe people or tourists get caught up in the atmosphere or hole in the wall look of the place, instead of food quality and taste. Someone recommended this place to us in a shop on Duval. He wasn't kidding around. It was right by our B&B and we ended up coming here twice (or maybe three times? Kitschy, dive shack in the heart of the tourist zone. I've traveled a bit and lived in some pretty dicey 3rd world countries - and this place would fit right in. We had to weave around some tables and walk through an area that felt like we were passing through an old kitchen junkyard to get to the ordering counter Nice, quick friendly service by the cashier. I knew on my first trip to Key West I had to try some Key Lime Pie and Conch Fritters. I had read from many sites that this was the place to have some of that fritter goodness. Let me tell you, if this restaurant were in any other place than Key West, I wouldn't set foot in there. From the outside it looks like a hangout where the homeless gather under a highway overpass. Wife and I ate here tonight. Had high hopes based on the reviews but we were sorely disappointed. This place is a super tourist trap. One sandwich, one limeade, 3 small conch fritters and a small salad for $40. They are cash only. The fried grouper itself is really good but the thin filet of fish is lost in a thick bland white bread smothered in 1980s cole slaw. The conch fritters were not fried correctly. They had no crunch to them. They tasted like something had been totally burned in the oil and they were very greasy. The $6 side salad was a small paper tray of romaine, cucumber and onion. This place is always a great stop while visiting Key West, like they say don't judge a book by it's cover! Some of the best restaurants around the country are some of the most "un flattering" to the eye. The staff here are extremely polite and friendly. Walk up and place your order and they will either bring you the food or they will call your name to pick it up. Be sure to keep an eye on the special board. We personally love their burger, order it with everything you will not be disappointed. It's large enough to share if your going to order some fries or their homemade rice and beans as a side. This review is going to touch on a few areas that get the five star approval from me and why this place is a must-stop whilst in Key West. First is the food, just the food. It is BOMB. My dad brought us here and I wished it had been on the first day of my trip so I Could've gone back again. Everyone was psyched about their food. Next I'll say the guys that worked there were hot. Nothing I'd complain about if they weren't but they all looked cute and charming and the food was so good. It wasn't too much for me tho, I tougher it out. Then there's the actual place. The roll was light and easy, the fish was flaky and fresh. I also had a bowl of the red conch chowder. There was plenty of conch in the chowder. My friend had some ahi tuna tacos with a side of black beans and rice. These were also tasty, and, a large serving size. I will say this was one of my favorite spots while in Key West! It was hot as hell out so we stopped in for a beer and something quick to eat and a break from the heat wave! I ordered the fish tacos because when your near the ocean why eat anything else besides seafood! My tacos were delicious! It is a very fun restaurant. I was immediately attracted by its decorations, then after I tried the food, emm...I need to share this with friends, it is great. I was passing the street, and noticed this restaurant. It has an old car as a decoration outside the restaurant. I immediately took my camera and caught the view. Then I wanted to see how's the inside look. The theme of the restaurant is "old", so you could see old ship stuff, like anchors, float balls. They have fresh fish every day, so you can ask what kind of fish they have on that day, choose the fish of the day. I ordered grilled shrimp and rice and bean as the side. This place was recommended to us by several locals. I wanted a not-so-touristy spot with delicious seafood and we most definitely found it here! We ordered the crispy shrimp tacos, a burger, the conch fritters, and an order of fries, and we shared their house limeade! EVERYTHING was AMAZING!!! The conch fritters with their house aioli was delicious and came out hot and fresh. Her burger was cooked perfectly, and my tacos were to die for. If we had a couple more days to spare, I would have gone back. Had I known how big the portions are, I would have left out the fries. They were good, but just WAY too much for two people. And can we talk about the adorable fearless baby chickens?!? They jumped on our table at the end of the meal when I was done and put my napkins on top of my plate and they started eating my leftover rice and beans! During the meal they walk all over the restaurant, under your feet, behind you, in front of you. I'm certain they are very well-fed by the guests who dine there and are just as enthusiastic about dining with cute baby animals, to the dismay of the employees, who grabbed squirt bottles and shooed them away with water (the quote was "I'm watering the chickens, they have to grow so we can feed them to you later"). Great dive spot for seafood! My wife and I stopped in because we were tired of the tourist traps for seafood. This place did not fail to deliver. The ambience is very eclectic, which we love. You order at the bar and it gets delivered to your table when ready. The beer is buy one get one free until 5pm! (A big plus when trying to not break the bank). Everything is fresh! Another plus! The conch (pronounced "Konk") is pretty good here. I had it as the "conch ceviche", which was pretty good. Also, I had the Swordfish tacos and my wife had the Shrimp sandwich. Both were amazing! The patio fans keep it cool and breezy. The food was delicious. Crab cake sandwich was juicy (I prefer mine a little drier), big, flavorful, and fried perfectly.
